Your G S III Wifi Speeds - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

So I woke up this morning and been playing around on my lovely beauty and decided to actually use my 5Ghz band. This is the speed I pulled on my wifi using the 5Ghz band on my G S III. Anyone want to start a comparison? Great speeds. Generally, my optimum speeds should be ~30Mb, so not too shabby.
5Ghz Band:

Now to make this fair, below is my SAME network, on the 2.4Ghz band:
2.4Ghz
Again, this is my my exact same home network, taken from the exact same spot, just changing for 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands, respectively.

Whoa....
Nice!

You should include how much your speeds are supposed to be like say you buy optimum boost your dl speed should be around 50 mbs but if you have dial up its 0.0000001 mbps

Your router would have to be able to produce a 5Ghz band. You can't just 'create' it, it has to be given off by your system.

No, you see, what you do is: Build a machine with a motor in it that oscillates at 2.4 Ghz, strap your router into it, and set it to vibrate asynchronously with the 2.4 Ghz band that your router is putting out.
Voila! Instant hertz double-age.

Do you know of a way to have the Galaxy S III automatically prefer 2.4Ghz over 5Ghz? My router actually puts out both simultaneously.

Mine does too, though I'ma use both, but to set it:
Settings > wifi > advanced button > wifi frequency band > select 2.4GHz only.

So question, this is WiFi, what the hell could you guys ever need 20-50mbs of internet speed for? XD I'm on 3mbs and im perfectly fine

I think I'm going to return my phone. I strongly believe that my radios are off. I still have my GS2 from Sprint and my wifi speeds are twice as fast than on my GS3. That coupled with almost no bars from voice and fluctuating data. I live in an apartment in Brooklyn, but it's a studio with 3 big windows. My Sprint gets full bars. What do you think? Just got my phone yesterday. My GS3 is on Tmo.

What ISP? Those graphs look like some kind of 'speed boost' style manipulation. What's the advertised speed? I used to get insane results when I was with Comcast elsewhere on speedtest/other things, but reality never worked out quite so well.

I have Comcast as my ISP, and I'm subscribed to the extreme 105 plan.

Dear T-Mobile Customer
We have reviewed your recent coverage concern, and you may qualify to be part of a free in-home device trial! The device is designed to boost 3G signal inside your home. We look forward to speaking with you regarding your eligibility...
..contact info, etc..etc...
So I qualified.. The requirements included one bar 3g signal. 3g device, data plan blah... Moderate service, a land line for 911 calls, and single family home.. No apts or highrises I guess..
So I'm in this test group of 1000 lucky tmo customers that get one of these little in home 3g boosters,
Awesome
I'll keep yous guys informed..

Does that means they want to turn your home into a mini cell tower?
I assume other people around you can also receive signal from the device.
You are lucky... make sure you let us know how it goes!

So yes my house would be a small cell tower... It is a 2 piece design... One half goes where you get the best signal..the other your worst..
I filed a service request with a person on the team from New Mexico that is piloting this "new device"... They enrolled me about 2 weeks ago..
When my package arrives I'm going to post a video and a review.. I'm so stoked, I'm hoping this thing works like she said it would...

Got one in our store a few days ago. It sucks in the store because it can only handle 4 devices at a time... And we have 10+ demo phones... So the slots are always taken. The hand off from booster to network is pretty awful also

It would be compared to a femtocell... I'm not sure how well they work or the signal strength.. This cel-fi receiver works really well.. The signal drops when I go outside.. So it doesn't put out a whole lot of extra signal.. But it is very reliable/consistent..
This uses an existing 3g signal.. It keeps a very constant connection too.. The base fluctuates between 1 and 2 bars and the output box has a 9 for signal output. It dropped down to 4 and 5 last night but I was still getting full service 3g..
I've been able to upload and download files like never before.. This has seriously changed my perspective of tmo... I'm not even in a "true" 3g area.. I get flow over from 2 bigger cities 45 mins north and south of me..

although I think you said that this simply repeats an existing 3g signal, can you confirm that this does NOT use your home broadband connection?
Is the repeater in any way connected to your home network?
The repeater is not connected to anything, or plug into anything beside a power cord.. Just uses the existing 3g network

What carrier are you on?
There are definitely issues with Nexus S 3G.
Not that serious, but they are present.
For example, I have visual contact with a 3G tower when I'm at home. I get signal readings into the high 50s, low 60s dBm while in the house. Even then, there are times when the phone switches to 2G.
Why on earth a baseband processor would decide that is beyond my understanding.
All other phones in the house never leave 3G...

This is what I get using my Nexus S on the Rogers network. If you want faster uncapped speeds on the fido/rogers network just flash KB3 radio.

Sounds like you have the wrong nexus s for your carrier to me. You sound like you got a model that only works on the 2g bands.
I only get a little under 3mbit down and just over 2mbit up. I don't really consider it slow though. I never have problems with mine switching to 2g or anything like that either. Again, just because you are standing right next to a tower, doesn't mean it's the phone. There are many more factors to consider than distance/sight of a signal tower.
Changed my kernel to Matrix and now my speeds are even quicker using KB3 radio on the Rogers network

SGSIII vs SGS4G
Well, my old phone is actually a Vibrant but I decided to test it against my girlfriends vibrant+ to see the difference in 4g speeds. My phone gets terrible ping for some reason, but the speed is much better than her phone(using the latest kj6 modem). This is north of San Antonio using a San Marcos server. The first speed test is from Wichita, KS
I don't know but I think I hit a freak spot because this area is always crazy fast
this was with the old SII

What is up with this wifi performance?

I ran Speedtest on my Nexus 4 over my local wifi network and saw something surprising. I am getting only about 6Mbps download speeds. I'm on a 40Mbps Internet connection. My Galaxy Nexus gets 30Mbps on the same wifi network using the same Speedtest server.
Maybe not coincidentally my T-Mobile HSPA+ speeds also seem to cap around 6Mbps usually.
I'm scratching my head, this can't be normal, right?

I was skeptical about the issue being my router, it's a nice ASUS RT-N66U router. And I have an iPad 3, Kindle Fire HD, and Galaxy Nexus all getting 30 to 35Mbps results from speedtest tonight, while only the Nexus 4 seems to be struggling around 6Mbps.
But I logged into the router and looked around at wifi settings that might be affecting this.
The router is set to "N only" mode, because I have no 802.11g or lesser devices. I'm using both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and have issues with both. 2.4GHz is on channel 1, which is the least crowded in my neighborhood.
I looked at this setting called "Channel bandwidth". I have mine set to 40MHz for optimal performance. But it has a note that I should set this to 20Mhz if there are stability issues. I set the channel bandwidth down to 20Mhz and now I'm getting almost 35Mbps on my Nexus 4. I set it back to 40Mhz and now my Nexus 4 is back to 6Mbps. Back again to 20MHz, and back to 35Mbps. It's definitely the channel bandwidth.
Not sure why the Nexus 4 has such a problem with 40Mhz channel bandwidth when nothing else has an issue with it. However 20Mhz doesn't seem to be hurting my other devices performance. So issue solved.
Good call.
reboot the phone and try again.

Sometimes problems with channel width is caused by wmp or.similar setting try disabling that (the whatever power/resource/priority setting newer routers seem to have)

LoL. I was really surprised by the mobile speed on this phone. Now I can burn them 26GBs in minutes

Nice, I wonder what the phone is capable of, I've got 1Gb of speed at my place.
I already get 235Mb/s+ with my S7 Edge so I think the limit is your ISP and WiFi, not the phone.

Yes, didn't notice the provider id of 'T-Mobile'. If that's the case this is definitely fast. I just checked my S7 and I got 98/17 with a ping of 31ms.

I am actually anxious to see how this thing does in a couple of months. Im on AT&T and i live just outside of Indianapolis which, from what i understand, is the first market AT&T is launching 5g in this summer.
Wait for 5G to kick in, then we'll see what this beast can do

Anyone with FAST wifi do speed tests?
One of my issues with the S7E is its wifi was much slower than my Note 5.
My iPhone 7+ hits 600+ up and down on our wave2 AC wifi network here.
The S7E had fast LTE though. Fastest speedtest (Verizon) I recall was around 130 down and 50 up. That's smoking for LTE but bad if you don't have unlimited. LOL

Indy might be high on the list but Dallas is first. They are already testing in Dallas

The link speed is all over the place. The wifi app only goes to 866 but it sometimes pegs the meter and goes over 999. LOL
Getting great speeds on wifi. Similar speeds to my 2016 macbook pro! The wifi radio on this is excellent. Haven't tried lower signals to see how it fares yet.
Ok TMOBLE this is B.S.! I'm in Las Vegas and getting speed at as low as 20 , 30 k down.. that k ..NOT meg
And TMOBLE is telling me there no problem
Best I've seen in burst of 7 meg
The has been going on since I got the phone
I'm pulling over 630mbps at my house. That's Wi-Fi though ?
