Question about returns - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a question about returns. Do you need to send back your current n10 and then they ship a replacement, or is it the other way around??
Just asking cause I'm experiencing some issues and wasn't sure if I'd be without a tablet for a period of time.
sent from my blue police box flying through time!!!

They ship you an advance replacement and will charge your credit card if the bad unit isn't returned.

Thanks. Good to know i wont be without my tablet for an extended period of time.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app

I just did this last week cause my 1st 1 had very bad light bleed, even at the lowest setting.
When you call Google to set up the exchange, they will send you 2 emails. 1 is for a prepaid return label via UPS. The 2nd email is for a link to initiate the return. You have to use the same email address that you purchased your N10 with. They will place a hold on your credit card for the amount and you have 21 days to return the old product. If you don't send back the defective unit within 21 days they charge your credit card.
My replacement came today, and luckily its perfect with just a small amount of noticeable light bleed in the bottom right corner and max brightness. Whites are white!

Thanks for the info!!

What's your S/N range for the good replacement? My 1st 16GB unit RC32CA051xxx had white whites while the 2nd 32GB unit RC32CB01Lxxx had dirty/slightly piss yellow whites.

Try it, worst that can happen is they say no. Best case you have a shiny new (blemish free) screen.
Just check it's not dirt/crud on the screen surface before you take it back
looks like oil under the screen - or like when you press hard on a tft screen and you see the ripple effect sort of thing.. it's fairly obvious when you look at it from an angle.
I called and they said i should be able to take it back to a store - the hardest part will be convincing a pcw bod to actually see it too...
i stuck angry birds rio shortcut on top of it so i can find it easily though
Seems impossible to find a number to an actual store that someone will answer... there's a pcw up the road but I only have the tablet. Not the box it came in... just wanted to know if they would swap it out or I would need to take the box et all back... sigh

Happily changed it at Derby but they tried to say it was out of warranty because it was ordered over 21 days ago... even though delivery was 2 days ago. Jerks

Don't take it back until the 4G version are out, that's what I am doing with my screen blemish. Even spoke with my VZW rep and he said hell yea, wait for the 4g versions.
Ha! Warranty is a year not 21 days. Screw those guys.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I wonder if manufacturers warranty is 1yr but you have 21 days to return the product to the store, i.e. PCW? I don't know but its crazy anyway.
Now my new xoom doesn't have that problem and just starting to set it up again but I have two Xoom's according to Android Market..
Code:
NICKNAME VISIBILITY MAKER MODEL
Xoom M Shown in menus Motorola MZ604
Desire M Shown in menus HTC HTC Desire
Xoom-old Hidden in menus Motorola MZ604
Apart from 'hidden in menus' there's no way to remove the device at the moment?
I don't think so, I was looking for a way to remove my old Desire the other day and couldn't find one.

Standard reply probably but at least I vented my frustration at being told it was out of warranty before it was even delivered...

I have a tiny little black ( to be fair slight gray )dot on my screen in the middle. it looks as if the blemish is beneath the lcd panel. I am debating getting an exchange. I am in Canada and bought it through bhvideo. it is barely noticable and maybe a millimetre by two millimetre. I have just read with people with dead pixels etc... and would hate to exchange one small problem for another probkem. hmmmmm

N7 backlight bleed, worth a replacement?

I'm on my second N7 32gb as the first suffered from some screen lift
Anyways the nexus I have currently has very very little screen lift however I'm fine with that. My main issue however is that the screen suffers from a small amount of light bleed on the bottom left corner. On full brightness you can easily spot it however on auto brightness and on the lowest setting it's pretty hard to spot but when your looking for it you can see it.
Bought from PC world on nov 1st in the UK and the 21st nov is the last day for replacement assuming the 21 days starts on the day of the purchase of the first tablet. I got a replacement around 5 days after I purchased the first one, would that mean I have an extra 5 days then to return?
I honestly don't know what to do as I would like to return it however I'm worried I will get a even worse N7 than I currently have
In the pics I have posted, its the bottom left thats causing the most problems,
Cheers!

mate, are you nutz? take it back,......all respect meant
but yeah geez take it back and try a new one. i changed my 16gb for the 32gb a week later in carphone warehouse and seriously the difference was noticeable in build quality immediately even when i gave the new tab to a friend without telling him, he said the back cover felt better like i had a cover on it.
just take it back and try again what can u lose? :good:

Nexus 10 defects

Hello guys ! I'm trying to compile a list with all issues found so far in this tablet. My aim is to make a quick-check guide for people, like me, who will buy it from a local retail store and need to know what to look when checking the device in the store in order to avoid returning it later and for all other future buyers. I'm also curious if, statistically, defects are more or less rare than Nexus 7's (I exchanged two before finally giving up and waiting for this tablet).
So, vote in the poll and, if you please, describe the issues you encountered or just add a quick comment.
Thank you
[EDIT]
List of things to check when buying your brand new Nexus 10 :
Backlight bleeding - check it on 100% and 50% brightness on a black screen and see if it's acceptable to you
Dead/stuck pixels - check it in a dark environment, using 100% brightness and solid color backgrounds (use specialized apps like Dead Pixel Check, a ~100kb download)
Well, I I received my Nexus 10 on Friday and rooted it on Saturday morning, bueno now I have to send it back! Nfc does not work and the light sensor works when it wants to

My charger died. I need to get a replacemant
Have you tried something like AndroSensor for the light sensor ? It reads all the sensors from your device and outputs their values. You can check for erratic behaviour with it. How does this defect manifest itself anyway ? Unwarranted changes in backlight intensity ?

After a quick scan of this forum it seems that backlight bleeding is a common problem. So I'll add it to the first post on the quick-check-before-buying-list. Dead pixels could be an issue but the chances of noticing 1 dead pixel on a 300 ppi display are really slim, unless viewing the screen in a dark room with a specialised app ... and having Superman vision.
On my first Google nexus, Google gave to me... 1 dead pixel and some light bleed.
On my second Google nexus, Google gave to me... dust under the screen and worse light bleed.
On my thirds Google nexus, Google gave to me... nasty yellow light bleed and a stuck grey pixel. Oh and the seals were broken on the box, nice..
I've still not had a single return postage label yet either! Right now I have 3 defective Nexus 10's in my living room, wtf!!!!
That's it, nuff's enought, I've asked for a refund this time.
I'll see how they are in a few months when the stores start selling them.
Nice device but im not paying £400 for a defective unit. I really hope they iron out the defects as nothing else tablet wise appeals to me now.

Funny!
So right now you have 1200 British pounds invested in Nexus and a healthy stock of 3 (not-so-healthy units). Not bad. Anyway, updated info in first post with dead pixels.

Received my nexus 10 two days ago and i think i might be on the same roll as you! I videotaped the unpacking and posted on my blog. Can't post link but you'll find it on the first page if you google search 'seanxz nexus 10'.
I wouldn't be surprised of a massive recall by google in the next few months or so. This is garbage QA!

So you suspect that your Nexus has been refurbished or something like that ? It is possible for particles to be trapped when factory applying the protective film. I see that all the time on cheaper chinese LCD products.
The back cover is now creeking, seems like there is a gap of a fraction if a mm. ARGHHHH!!

Nexus 10 - Replacement/RMA Serial #'s

Hi Folks,
Apologies if this thread started somewhere else (I obviously can't find it if so). The purpose of this thread is so we can track returned Nexus 10's as well as their replacement's being sent to you.
I'm wanting to make sure they're not just grabbing returned units and sending them right back out with a quick cleaning and re-furbish of the plastic lamenant. The reason I have my doubt's is I've just received my 3rd Nexus 10 and it's the worst yet in regards to light bleed..... either extremely bad luck or they're sending out RMA's are replacements.
Kindly list them as such with the serial # of the unit.
For units RMA'd back (including replacements sent back): RMA-R32CB04F81K
For units you decided to keep (Replacement only - Not your original): REC-R32CB04F81K
I would appreciate everyone's cooperation! Listing mine below right now!!
Cheers,
Soloistdk1
RMA-R32CB04F81K - Buzzing from speaker + light bleed
RMA-R32CA089KYJ - Broken Seal + Light Bleed
RMA-R32CB04F6ZR - Broken Seal + Light Bleed (Worst yet)
All returns I have sent back to date. Waiting for a 4th one now. Whoever said 3rd times a charm

Hey
Do you have any pictures of how bad the lightbleed was. I have line 2 small ones ans a bit larger one at bottom left. Not a big deal but is intrusive . Should I RMA it. or is mine one of the better ones.
RMA-R32CB039ZJT - bricked (possibly corrupt flash storage)
RMA R 3 2 C B 0 1 A F 8 W Dead Pixel + Small amount of light bleed
RMA R 3 2 C B 0 0 T C 0 F Dust under glass + small amount of light bleed
RMA R 3 2 C B 0 4 V C 4 D Major Yellow light bleed + seals broken on packaging
Please PM me if you recieve any of these as 'new'
I will escalate to Trading standards if we can prove this.
Thanks
RMA - R32CB00TBPV - No hardware issues - experienced 5GHz WiFi problems so was RMA'd, but since determined to be an issue with stock Android not a hardware issue.
RMA - R32CB04DQSB - [Broken Seals] - DOA - Would not power on
RMA - R32CB03A7SV - [Broken Seals] - Bad yellow screen bleed from the bottom right corner
Received a nexus 10 with seals broken and 60% battery. No issues so far apart from a couple of freezes.
Serial R32CB04MH7R
Update: Just noticed a slight shade down the left hand side of the screen. Not sure what it is but because I know its there, its starting to annoy me now. The nexus has also reset a few times randomly which is annoying. Are you guys receiving the replacement after sending it away or is it being swapped over when the replacement arrives?
Returned unit - R32CB - battery meter stopped reading randomly multiple times a day, frequent soft resets, NO light bleed (call made Dec 21)
Received my replacement today - RC32CC - been working flawlessly and no light bleed.
RMA S/N
RMA - R32CB0368BB - Broken seal and light bleed in all four corners and bottom when in landscape. Especially bad in bottom right corner in landscape.
RMA - R32CB05RT3X annoyingly loud hardware noise in headphones when fully charged & plugged in & brightness turned down, replacement has same issue. I guess that's how they all are. Awaiting final word from Google Play's inspection of device, they've had it 4 days (since Friday) but I'm guessing they will declare it working.

Replacement was another R32CB, however the seals were intact and light bleed was less. Enough so that I'm keeping the replacement.
SN: R32CC00HNQM
I bought this from Staples and the seals were broken and the screen fingerprints and a bunch of dirt on it. It also had lightbleed and the charge was at 80+%.
I called them up and had them swap it out for a new one. I'm sure Staples will mail it right back out to someone.

RMA
RMA - R32CA04LCDV - Line of dead pixels randomly appeared
Just got my replacement today. S/N: R32CC01TWLT
Seals were broken and there was a lot of dust and debris on the plastic cover of the screen. Powered it on and immediately noticed light bleed and yellowing on the edges of the screen. Never knew how much of an issue light bleed is as my original was near perfect. Called Google support and the rep put me on hold a few times to talk to the RMA team. After a couple holds, he tells me that the replacement device is brand new, that the glue below the screen takes 3-5 days to set, and that it should go away... Not sure what to believe, but I told him I'll call back if the issue doesn't resolve.
RMA- R32CB03TNRL
It had the glitching charging issue (false reporting 0% randomly on plugging in or unplugging), and once the screen randomly started flickering and the tablet just died. It turned back on after being on the charger for a few hours, but those issues were enough for me to want a replacement.
Replacement - R32CB05R5MY
My replacement has some serious light bleed.. Enough for me to put it right back in its box and think about calling them in a few days after my RMA gets returned to them. I attached a picture of the light bleed.
Just got a replacement with broken seals joy. Called google and they said do not accept it and are setting up another rma/replacement for me. Ups also had fun with this tablet as it came all the way here from CA then apparently ended up on a plane back to CA instead of on a delivery truck. Had to be shipped back here once again and arrived two days late.

Mine came in on Monday with the same sticker, but in a vertical orientation. The sticker makes me think it's new but when I opened it I found a few random strands of 2in long hair and the case close to the charge port seems slightly bent. Other than that mine seems new though with the random hair and slightly bent plastic case I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm if the tablet is supposed to be in a protective bag or not? Mine wasn't it was just sitting on the top tray of the box with the protective screen.
I attached a pic of the bent case.

My S/N starts with 310, so I'm assuming that is one of the newer runs? Other than the fishiness of it I haven't seen anything about the tablet other then that deformed part that has bothered me about it. I ran a dead pixel app to see if there was anything and no dead pix and no backlight bleed to really notice. I get about 4-5 hrs of screen on time from social media browsing and chromecasting with BT and GPS turned off, wifi on, auto dim on. I don't know if it's an issue but the knock on is sometimes non-responsive requiring 2-3 tries before it wakes up.

my understanding is that 310 is the early run, followed by 311 and the slightly less troublesome 312 line
there's a backlight bleed app i've seen mentioned around the forums, try that

Oh it is? Yah I guess I didn't do my research well enough. There is a slight bit of bleed/halo, but it's just on the bottom edge of the screen and only really noticeable if I have like max brightness on using a backlight bleed app I found. Wondering if it is worth it to see if Newegg will exchange it and if I'll end up getting charged for a return/shipping. Wished the sale had been for the black version though.

yeah you'll have to pay for retuurn shipping i'm sure, try the bleed app with brightness down like below 40% thats where the spotting usually shows up
Got mine last night from slow UPS. Came in box that looked untouched. No seal sticker but not a finger print in sight. 311 serial number with no light bleed. One thing I did notice tho is that one side has a sharp edge compared to the other. Not a big deal cause my Amzer case comes today. I love this thing so far!

Mine starts with 309 lol. no issues though (knocks on wood)
Hello all...first post on these boards. I'm glad to find these forums.
I got the white version when Newegg had them on sale recently. Mine came pristine and appears 100% new. I see no issues with dead pixels, backlight bleed or streaking. It is from the S/N 310 run so I guess I am fortunate. I'm very pleased with the tablet.
BTW- Newegg now has both the black and white models on sale for $249-no coupon code needed. When I purchased, only the white one was discounted but honestly the color did not matter much to me. I will say I think the white one looks great and maybe a little more distinctive.
My local best buy price matched the $249.99 price found on newegg, so if you can't wait like me and don't mind paying sales tax there's another option.
BTW I got a 209 series from best buy. Waiting for my titanium backup to finish syncing to test screen for issues.
Update... Doesn't appear to be any bleed through on the screen, but the gamma is off a little bit. Despite that the screen looks excellent!
The black one is on sale for $250, too. I just ordered one to replace my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. Should be a substantial upgrade.
It has been awhile since my last order with Newegg. They called me to verify my info and to ask why I'm shipping to a different address. Um, I MOVED. I appreciate the caution, though.
