Camera disabled by email app, cannot be re-enabled - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I connected to my work Exchange email, I had to accept certain security conditions including not being able to use a pattern or face unlock, and having the device disable my cameras.
My camera still doesn't work even after I unconfigured my exchange email... Does anyone have an idea why that might be the case and do you know how to fix it? I've tried wiping and restoring to factory, but to no avail.

Try Settings > Security > Device Administrators and disable Email.
Not sure if this works on the N10. I can see it on my Sensation though.

Nope, I don't see Email as a device administrator, at least not anymore after I unconfigured my email account.
3rd party camera apps don't work as well, and just display a blank screen. Sometimes (for eg when I try to set up face unlock, the camera app then displays something like 'Can't connect to camera'.

Try a full wipe/factory reset from the recovery. This should reset everything. If it still doesn't work after that, I think you have to send it back.

I already tried doing that, but to no avail. I figured some of the devs here might have some insight before I have to resort to sending it back.

A factory reset should resolve all software issues. You can try flashing the Google factory images, even though I can't really see how that could help. Maybe you just had bad luck and the camera module failed coincidentally after you disabled it.

I thought so as well, but wanted to verify with you guys. Actually I don't think I tested the camera before I set up my email. Perhaps the camera was always broken.

My email account has disappeared, please help

For some reason my googlemail account has disappeared from my phone. I have a notification I have mail, and when I go into mail from the home screen tab the new mail is displayed, but when I press it nothing happens, it won't go to inbox.
If I go into mail via the start up menu my googlemail account isn't there. All I have listed is hotmail, and add new account. If I try to add my googlemail it won't allow me saying I have already set up an account with that name. Where's it gone and how do I get it back?
Ok, I've fixed it by restoring my phone. It would be nice to know what happened though???
Yes, this happens on occasions.
I think the way I fixed it last time was to go >menu>account settings> where you should see the "lost" gmail account. If you then select it and walk through the setup again for that account it sorts itself out.
I'm 90% confident this is how I fixed mine but it was a while back so memory is a bit dim.

Thanks. I went through the setup and that's when it told me I already had an account with that name and couldn't go any further.
I had a new problem this morning. I had all my email accounts there, but when I clicked on them nothing happened, ie I couldn't go to the inbox. A soft reset fixed it, but why am I getting so many glitches?

I am having the same sort of problem. My e-mail accounts have disappeared after a soft reset. This is the second time it has happened. Out of interest, what are you running on your device? I would like to see if there is a common theme beyond it being a problem with HTC's software.

Not a lot, a few registry tweaks, SPB BAckup, memmaid, resco registry editor, phm regedit.
I got my email settings borked a couple of times now, and I run a standard ROM with very little third party software, and certainly nothing tweaky or email related.
Not sure what triggers it, TBH.

It has happened to me a few times. I think it only happens after a soft reset. I tend to lose my network settings too.

These are precisely the same symptoms as my device is suffering. Hell, I could buy a Caithness paper weight for less money and it would do roughly the same job (possibly better).
My phone is also having the same symptoms - loosing email and network settings randomly. Any cause or solution as yet?
My phone loses it's email settings when I pull the battery. They are still there but the pop and smtp settings disappear so they won't work anymore. Also my router security code is gone too. If I reset with the red button there there is no problem.
I was having this problem maybe one a week but since i upgraded to one of the latest custom Roms it hasn't happened since... Must be because of the very latest version of Windows they are using, M$ must of sorted a bug or two..

Not Opening email or txt from TF3D

Hey Guys,
Having an odd problem, if i get an email I can get to the email tab, but then when i got to open the email by tapping the summary nothing, it just bumps, and thats it. So the only way is to go into the inbox and then open it from there. I have tried a few things, several factory resets but still nadda.... Any Ideas guys???
Thanks in advance
Had a similar issue which occurred after I installed ietoggle (I was trying to get logmein working).
Uninstalled ietoggle and it fixed itself. May not be the same issue, but hope this helps.
nope, not got ie toggle installed, didnt even work after a factory reset, augh its so infuriating!

[Q] Market not working

My uncle also bought himself a Wildfire, set it up and everything went fine.
So we went ahead, made a WiFi connection, and tried to download something from the market, this is where things went bad.
I know you need to log in with your gmail account, as I own a wildfire myself and everything went flawlessly there.
Somehow neither his gmail account, nor mine, works as a login and it just returns a 'Service unavailable'. So we thought it might be the wifi connection and tried at my place.
There it didnt work either.. Im stunned, mine just worked out of the box, nothing to set up only login etc. and I just dont know what to do anymore.
I hope anyone can help!

Try a reset to factory defaults by using the clear storage option in settings and see how that goes.

Will try that as soon as I see him.
In the meantime, if anyone has any alternatives, please post!
You can try Apktor.
If the Wildfire is in a non-english language, try changing it to english (in settings), go into market just for one time to accept the market terms of use. And if that works, you can switch back to the lang you used before.
Thanks for all the advices! Ill keep them in mind when facing a similar problem!
However, doing a factory reset sorted out everything just fine.

I stopped receiving email notifications!

Sometime within the last week, I noticed that I stopped receiving email notifications on my phone. I can still retrieve email manually (both through Inbox and the Gmail app), but unless I open the app it won't refresh. I've tried messing with the notification settings - none of which were turned off or disabled - and I've even removed and re-added my Google accounts. No effect!
I'm not sure what else I should be trying, or why this would even be occurring. I haven't noticed any other apps giving me the same issues; for instance, Facebook and my Twitter client (Fenix) both continue to push notifications just fine. Any advice on what I could try next? Thanks in advance!
Have you wiped data of Google play services by any chance? That will cause this every time without fail.
It should sort itself out eventually, I found a good article describing what happens when Google play services data is wiped and it causes mayhem with syncing your Google account.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I know I have before, but I don't think it was recently. That's really good to know now! I'm contemplating just doing a full wipe because all these tiny problems are starting to get at me. Removing your Google account plays havoc with apps now.
I used to have this same issue when I used Inbox on my last device and never really came across any fix while searching for answers. Never had it happen with Gmail, so that's odd you're having that same issue. Only thing I can recommend is trying another email app. I use BlueMail now and have no issues with not getting notifications.
With app issues, specially with Google Apps, I recommend rebooting to Safe Mode and testing the app.
1. Hold Power Button until Power Off shows.
2. Hold Power Off until "Reboot to Safe Mode" appears.
3. Click "Reboot to Safe Mode".
4. See if the issue persists.
Check the sync
Also, check if you jave restricted the background data at the data usage
I checked everything you guys recommended, nothing seemed to help. In a rage I factory reset the phone, and everything is peachy now. Instant emails galore. No idea what that implicates as the cause.

I think that the April factory image definitely has issues. Mine was battery problems, but all is fine after flashing Mays image. There was a sync issue with all Gmail users for a while but that seems to be fixed now as well.

Problems with Oneplus 6T and Outlook for Android

I have Outlook for Android on my Oneplus 6T running stock OS rooted. For some reason I am unable to set gmail as my default mail app. I can disable Outlook and than I can change it. How do I stop Outlook from forcing me to use it as default? No, I cannot remove Outlook. I need it for work. I want to know how to prevent the app from taking over without my permission.

Sounds to me like you said yes somewhere to a post installation prompt to set as default app. You can either go into settings>apps & notifications> default apps and clear it... Or you could go to outlook's app settings specifically and clear it or just clear the apps storage data/cache and start over.

At no point did I allow it and at no point did it ask. I even uninstalled it, clearing out all data, and reinstalled it. Before even opening it the first time it has already taken over the setting and won't allow me to change it. You cannot clear it's defaults in settings because it is greyed out.

Did you add Google account to Outlook app instead of just signing in with Outlook email?... That's only thing I can think of. Why not just use 3rd party email handler? I always use this one in the screenshot.

I am using a work Office 365 email account. That is the only account I use with it. It even takes over the setting without anything set up in the app, so it wouldn't be that.
I have removed all Microsoft apps from my device because of this.

3rd party app dude, that's all I can say... There's like a hundred of them.
Did your work 360 account have special security measurements in place? Mine does!
so, as a example, I have to set outlook as device admin if i want to use it on my device, maybe it's something like that. Delete the work account and just set up your Google and a test account from another mail provider, just to check if you can set ur Google account as ur default

No, I never had to set it as device admin. I want my gmail app as default, but M$ thinks they know best and want their app to be default. Google should put something in that refuses to allow this, if the user doesn't want it. I have just removed it completely. I will not have an app that takes control like that.

I understand your concern but there isn't really an issue with it being your default. Any account ot email you like can be added to either app and you can also launch either to set defaults. I have a 5T myself with outlook as I use it for college and it doesn't take over. This would likely mean that it was something you had done in the past without meaning to. Things that could fix this considering you already tried uninstalling an app is reflashing your software assuming you're on OOS or just factory resetting your device. I don't believe Outlook is the issue here as I have 2 of the exact same email apps on my device and I don't have this problem

It is a concern and an issue when an app takes over settings like this. This is the only app I have seen that does it. Doesn't matter if I can just use it as is without issue. It should not force me to use their app as default, or even just force it to be set as default. That is what malware does. Forcing changes that the user didn't approve is wrong. I have notice this even after flashing back to complete stock, no root, and wiping data. I bet if you look in the settings you will find it default, regardless of it actually acting as default.

Google isn't offering up a virus to your phone. However, there are no defaults set in my settings for it. Stock fw does set unnecessary defaults I've noticed this on any stock software. You may want to consider choosing your software as you have a wonderful device with this capability. It is strange to me though that an app like that could change those things without your permission without also doing other things especially when I've never experienced an issue

As I had stated before stock can set unecessary defaults there's no reason to even have a default mail as both work without that process or permission. Any picture or message etc. Can be shared with the app no need for defaults. This is an odd occurrence but as you can see here the default is no where to be seen for me even though I have the same mail applications as you.

Well, than that is because your ROM doesn't use the Mail App default. I am using OOS, and it does. The issue still remains that an app should not be able to force itself to default and not let the user change it. Malware behavior at it's finest.

I do very much agree with you although, there are ways to fix your issue but if you wish to remain on OOS then try taking it up with Microsoft and see what the issue is. Could be your right. I'm very unsure.

We both know Microsoft won't care. They think they know what is best and force their will on people. I removed the app, so issue is gone.
