Apps not updating, downloading or installing from Google Play - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else having this problem? I'm guessing it's something wrong on Google's side, as I could install apps before. Now nothing will install or download. I cleared data and cache for the Google Play app and even factory reset my phone.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I was having the same issue before. I fixed it by visiting Google play on my computer and when you install an app there it let's you send it to your device so I did that once and ever since I have been able to download and update from my actual phone just fine.

Thanks I tried that, but it's still not working. A notification sound keeps beeping every 2 minutes or so but I get no notification.

I can install paid apps, but no free ones.

All fixed now, must be a wifi issue, as I can install any apps over 3G internet.

Market issues?

I know there have been issues with the Market lately but this one is weird. Only one installed app shows up in my market now. All installed apps were showing up after the update and all of a sudden... gone... any ideas???

If you are using the 2.2 OS, it may be the test keys are not released to the market, so it cannot detect your phone...I think.
I'm thinking it may have been with the market as my wife's had a issue to and both phones started getting server errors but after a while loaded everything correctly

My market acts funny too. After I installed froyo today, i started downloading apps from the market. All went fine until I tried handcent sms. I keep getting network error, retry or cancel. No matter how many times I retry it doesn't work. Any other app downloads just fine.
It will also give me network error when i access my apps from the menu in the market, but not all the time. I installed wiping data and cache several times.
Any ideas?
Great here !

Having similar issues on my gf fascinate too. Installed froyo without a hitch and now market seems fine at first. Installed superclean rom and everything is good. Until I start using the market. I can download maybe one app, then when I try to download another it says unsuccessful installation. Tried different apps and got the same result. I did notice that if I turn off mobile data and run strictly off wifi then its fine and I can install any apps. I can't really figure it out until she pays her bill so it can actually get a 3g connection but thats odd how it interferes with it. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance!

Android Market showing apps as not installed

Hi there,
For some strange reason when I go to my apps in the android market the list on the left hand side shows all the apps I have on my device, but it says that they are not installed! I have the option to install them again (even though they are installed) but when I press install it just opens the app instead but the list does not change it just still looks like it's not installed.
it's like the market is not recognizing that I have the apps installed. I know it seems very confusing.
Any body else encountered this problem befor?

This.
Randomly happened to me a few days ago. Said my mobile had nothing in it. If you try and install via web browser, it will say this error.
Tried clearing the cache but it's still the same. Tried installing through the browser but it's still the same, I get an error saying app already exists.
lists still show nothing is installed even though they are! lol!
This market really has some strange behaviour :-\

My downloaded Google play apps won't show

My apps downloaded apps wont show in googleplay. Please see picture. Help. This happened after i played with the market tool of titanium...

Did have.the same issue but only lasted a little while until rebooted.
Just wondering, have you tried logging out of your account and re entering it?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Yes, i did login and logout from my account. I did solve my problem already though. apparently, when I played with the market tools in titanium I inadvertently linked several apps to google play that were not supposed to be linked in the first place. I had to go through them and unlink them via titanium and it fixed the problem. I downloaded MARKET FIXER to determine which apps needed to be unlinked.
Hope this thread would be of help to anybody who would experience the same problem.
I do wonder if they're tweaking some settings with the new play market... I did a hard reset (because I froze stock dialer.... Big mistake ;-) ) and since, on usual dpi settings that have always worked before, 200, 240, I'm getting the error my device is not supported... Googled it and there are a lot of new posts about this since the update. Dunno if it's related.
I do have titanium but have never touched the market settings...
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
This is an old issue and it is caused by the Gallery and a few other system settings being mistakenly linked to the Google Play market which leads to the removal of the apps in My Apps section.
Indeed the best solution is Market Fixer as the OP has discovered above and the link is below:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kstudio.marketfixer
You usually only need to remove the system app market links to get it to work. This procedure needs to take place after every firmware update too. Before the apps return after using the Market Fixer, you can download a free app and install it from the Market to refresh your apps.
Yes that works perfectly, but you have to know that now your google account is corrupted for life with those system apps liked to it. Now everytime you flash or update a rom, you will have to go through this to get back a functioning market... sucks big time. F***ing titanium backup, and me for being stupid and use it to screw with the market... oh well, I have good health so that is what is important, it's just a phone...

The Play Store doesn't work anymore.

Long story short: since yesterday I have been unable to update any installed apps, or install new ones. When I try to do so, the app shows in-store as "downloading" but nothing actually happens and it's stuck at this stage forever. Stopping and restarting the service doesn't fix this, nor does completely powering off and on. Internet through the browser works as usual, as do all internet-enabled apps. I haven't installed or removed any software recently - the only change I did in the past 2 days is flash a new CWM recovery (went from 6.0.1.0 to 6.0.1.9) but I don't see what this has to do with the store.
I had this happen to me. If you go into settings > apps and clear data from Google Play Store, that fixed for me.

What rom are you using?
Stock. However I'm still on 4.1.2 - I blocked OTA updates until the current 4.2/4.2.1 bugs are fixed.
It's a long shot, but you can try to install the latest Gapps package from recovery. Or remove and re-add your Google account.
Would you happen to know where I can find the latest gapps package? Thanks!
(edit) found it http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121130-signed.zip
Edit2) Oops the 11/30 gapps don't work with 4.1.x anymore, will try 10/11 instead.
http://goo.im/gapps
Since you're on a 4.1.2 rom, get the one for CyanogenMod 10.0.x
I same issue last night. Downloads were very slow. All stock on latest ROM.

Holy f*! The browser works, however downloading through the browser doesn't. I get "download starting" then nothing happens. Same with Chrome. I quickly checked if I'm not out of storage space - no, I have 8GB free. WTF is going on?
I figured it out. last week I was trying to solve my battery drain problems (can't find the thread anymore) and I ended up disabling the media storage service. That apparently disabled any app from downloading anything. I have re-enabled it and now can download. The store works, browsers work etc. I just hope that the battery hogging doesn't happen again.
When I have play store issues I just sign out of Google talk and sign back in and it fixes my problems .. also close the market after..

If you can't download at all, a good method can be to clear data from "Google Framework Services" , delete google Account, reboot, recreate your Google Account.
I had the same problem. Enable download manager fixed it for me. After I did that all the apps I had tried to install started downloading and play store stayed open and did not force close.

[Solution found] New nexus 7 error 497

My nexus 7 just came in the mail and I'm running into error 497 on the play store while trying to update chrome, Google keyboard, and talk back. A few seconds after choosing update it'll give me this error but I've been able to download everything else with no trouble. I already tried a factory reset with no luck.. So I'm hoping someone can help me find a solution.
Is it possible that this could have anything to do with my Google account or maybe WiFi?
Edit: From searching around on the web I have found a solution that works for me. Download tunnelbear vpn from the market, make a free account, and then turn it on and connect to the US. You should now be able to download any of the apps that were giving this error. Alternatively, you can tether your phones mobile connection if data limits aren't a concern. Every other solution I have found has not worked for me including factory reset, clearing Play store data, etc, etc, but these two have. Hopefully this helps anyone else running into these issues out.
Edit : oh you did a factory reset...
Hmm dunno

Alright, so I've tried everything from clearing play store data, Google services data, wiping cache/dalvik and so on to no avail.
However, I was able to update and download apps that were giving me the error by using my phone as a wireless hotspot.. So maybe it's a problem with my internet provider. Anybody else with Comcast having this issue?

I just now experienced this same issue, and I also have Comcast. My Galaxy Nexus was able to update some apps without issue on 4G, and when I went to update my apps on the Nexus 7 it updated all but Facebook Messenger and Google Japanese keyboard support. Got error 497, cleared my cache/data/force stopped Google Play, tried again, same thing. Cleared out some other things that may have made it even worse (Google Play Services, which appears to have completely messed up my list of Installed/All apps in the Play store, oops) but still no go. Tethered the Nexus 7 to my Galaxy Nexus via Mobile hotspot, and it was able to update, but on wifi it fails. This just started happening today, and I've had my Nexus 7 for about two weeks. Not sure what's going on, and your post was one of the first things that came up when I googled it. I see a factory reset didn't help you. I really don't want to have to resort to that, but it appears it wouldn't have helped me anyway. I'm stumped.

Hi:
I have Comcast and am not having this issue. Keep us posted on your progress.
Best,
Tom
I have tried the standard google search results fix: force quit and wipe cache/ data for Google Play Store and Google Services Framework, reboot
I have tried installing the Google Play Store to the latest update using the apk.
I've tried pushing the update to the device using the online Google Play Store.
I've tried wiping the system caches.
I've reset and formatted it back to factory settings.
I've tried using different google accounts.
I tried using my wifi (custom setup of dd-wrt) as well as resetting dd-wrt back to the default settings. (Charter)
I tried tethering with my cellphone. (Sprint)
I tried a complete fastboot erase and re-flash of system, bootloader, recovery, etc.
Nothing seems to work. Next step is taking it back and trying a new one, unless someone else can think of something that I missed.
My Facebook messenger fails to update, says package file is invalid, not sure if that's my end or theirs, I'd just wait and see if the update eventually pushes through. Maybe just let it be And see if Google knows of the issue and eventually it'll update...

None of this things worked for me either except for tethering with my phone. So this leads me to believe it's a problem on Google's end and not the tablet. I would wait a little while for a fix before returning it..

How old are your comcast modem and wifi router? I had an issue where my internets stopped working because the modem was supposedly too old. I got a new modem from amazon (much better one) and now all is well. And i decided to go ahead and update my router. Its ac capable, so if anyone with a moto x or macbook pro air comes over, I will be ready for them

I'm not entirely sure but I think both are fairly new so I don't think that should be the issue. It just seems weird to me that some apps will download while others won't.

I think I have found a work around. Going to the play store on the web and pushing the app to your tablet seems to work for apps that are giving me this error. However I'm not sure if the web version will push updates or not so that could still be an issue.
Edit: try updating to the newest play store 4.3.10 that is floating around on the web. The issue seems to be resolved now, crossing my fingers.

Honestly, it was becoming really inconsistent.
After updating the Play Store using the apk, I was, again inconsistently, able to get some apps to download and install that were not previously doing so, but only after I cleared Play Store and Frameworks caches and reboot and even then only one would work before I had to clear caches all over again.
Updating the apk also changed the error I was getting for Google services (maps, music, chrome) to "Package file is invalid."

Error 492; 497; and "bad package" are all errors that I had been getting with my first device and then with my replacement.
Finally did enough searching to learn it was likely a Comcast DNS issue.
I tried everything from my office internet and it worked fine. I suspect it's why my earlier device started to go wonky because updates didn't update properly or something got corrupted.
Had this issue updating I forget what at work, it would stop at 1.38MB. Which is weird cause didn't have issues with other apps that same moment. Did a google search and tried a different wireless connection... Was able to update.
Two days after, updates apps at work, no problem. Maybe just a hiccup.
