Hi there,
For some strange reason when I go to my apps in the android market the list on the left hand side shows all the apps I have on my device, but it says that they are not installed! I have the option to install them again (even though they are installed) but when I press install it just opens the app instead but the list does not change it just still looks like it's not installed.
it's like the market is not recognizing that I have the apps installed. I know it seems very confusing.
Any body else encountered this problem befor?

This.
Randomly happened to me a few days ago. Said my mobile had nothing in it. If you try and install via web browser, it will say this error.
Tried clearing the cache but it's still the same. Tried installing through the browser but it's still the same, I get an error saying app already exists.
lists still show nothing is installed even though they are! lol!
This market really has some strange behaviour :-\

Just fixed it... I had to completely remove my Google account in the settings and set it all back up and re-sync everything.
Thanks for your help

Out of no where, I can't download off the Market anymore. This is what happens when I try to download when clicking on Install, it displays the Downloading icon in the notification bar and disappears without any warning or error! When I look back on the Application page for example Angry Birds, it just shows the Install button like it wasn't even touched!
I power cycled many times, I tried a lot of the tricks off of Google like Gtalk fix and the uninstalling the marketupdates trick, still no go I'd hate to reset to factory again, specially after recoverying from the Wifi issue from the other post.
Your help is appreciated!
Did you try going into applications, click on market, and press clear data?

Same here. Can't download anything.
I factory reset (which sucked royal balls) but I think I know what caused it now, it's that Fast Web Installer for AppBrain app. When I tried to re-install it, it said something about causing issues with new market update, and I remembered that I installed it successfully before the reset. So it might of conflicted and busted my market.
Let me know if that works for you, assuming you have this app.

Hmmm.. not for me, I just re-downloaded all my apps... now that you mention it, downloading 260 apps might have something to do with that :/

Interesting. I still can't. androidcentral mentioned it's down also.
I can't download any app either, and I just wasted 2 hours trying to fix it...I guess it's down!? I can see the apps, I click install, and then it says download unsuccessful, just like the OP said.

I am experiencing something funky with my marketplace. Everytime I go to "My Apps" I get a server error. I can connect online and I can search for apps with Marketplace, it just won't show me my downloaded apps. Anybody having this issue? I think it started after installing AppBrain and uninstalling.
i had the same problem today but i didnt install anythimg.
Same problem here all day

Something similiar is happening with my marketplace. Im not able to download apps from marketplace on my phone. I haven't been able to do this for about 2 weeks. Sometimes It comes back up and im able to download but most times it won't work. I cant even flash roms anymore because I can restore any of my older apps.
Started with CM7 nightly 32 for me as well.
I just get a blank screen.

Same here searched the web and tried everything suggested : unmounted card, cleared market, cleared caches, logolged out and in google talk.
Works fine if u wipe everything, but any titanium restore of any app will break everything again.
Either I get "download failed" or "package is invalid"
Been happening for weeks.

getting it too but it works.
In other threads it was reported that Market was behaving erratically; group consensus, as it wasn't specific to any particular ROM/kernel/mod was that it was a Market issue and *not* a device/user issue. Convenient patsy to blame was the recent change to support the web-enabled Market and perhaps some ongoing maintenance around that.
HTH
Still happening to me. I started right after I rooted and installed Sprint Lovers ROM. Maybe its just a coincidence.
The market will either not download or will download and then return the invalid package error message. Happens on 3G, 4G and WiFi, even after I clear the market data and cache and reboot.
Very curious.

Few others to try:
1) Delete the .android.secure folder on the SD card. This is where apps you moved to SD are located. If you want to keep them, move them back to the phone before deleting this folder.
2) Power cycle Wifi.
Its probably an issue with market itself, but a few other things to try couldn't hurt.
My phone will start acting like it is downloading. But before it gets to even one percent the download just stops, no trace of it anywhere. Pretty annoying to say the least. However, every once in a while it downloads without a problem. Strange. Been happening about 2 or 3 days.

Folks, I fixed this on my EVO. The details are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910956&highlight=invalid+package
Have tried cache clean and everything. This is also listed as a problem to others, but I have found no solution. Any suggestions?

try a hard reset
Well, i got a different problem. Today when accessing the market, when i go to my apps it only shows YouTube app as installed, no other app, even though i got a dozen of apps installed from the market. But if i scroll through apps in the market they appear as installed. Strange, as i didn't delete data or cache from market app

In my market, it says i have all these apps not installed. But they are all installed. When i click on them it doesnt say install, it says open. The apps run fine n are in my drawer. Is there a way to fix this? Its just really annoying when my "Pro" keys arent being used. Like, titanium backup says im using the free version when i have the pro version installed, same for my launcher pro key.

EDIT: can this be moved to the Q&A section, accidentally put in general. Thank you.
Same thing with me... google maps, youtube, and a few others are in the Not installed section, but when you select them it says installed, and you only have the option to open. I'm assuming they are still being checked for updates when I open Market... at least I hope they are. More annoying than anything else. Any thoughts?
Open up the "Manage Applications" and find Market. Clear the cache and reopen. Should show up now. Had to do that on mine.

I have the same problem, and agree it is annoying.
It started happening when I did a titanium backup after unlocking. So I guess there must have been some problem syncronizing with market after.
I have solved the problem by uninstalling the applications that were listed as needing updates even though they were already updated. And when reinstalled, the notification went away. It's not a very elegant way of fixing the problem, I know.
If anyone else has a better solution, please advise.
I learned this method from another forum (can't remember where); it always works for me:
Exit all applications on the phone
Home > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All
Market: Clear Cache, Clear Data (OK)
Google Services Framework: Clear Cache, Clear Data (OK)
Reboot your phone
Open Market app and Accept the TOS
Market > Settings > Content filtering > Set level > Show all apps (OK)
Market > My Apps: no more missing apps, or false positives for updates
I've tested this many times with the new Market app on my AT&T phone in both stock GB and piCRUST. It always fixes the display of installed apps within the Market app itself. But the list of apps showing on the Market web site under My Account (https://market.android.com/account) may not be immediately updated with the results. Sometimes the Market web site will be updated later rather than sooner, or only partially rather than completely. But this local fix will usually affect the web listing to at least some degree.
(Space reserved for future rant on market web site lameness...)
Did it, now i get a server error everytime i open the market. Just reinstall apk of new market?
EDIT: just used task killer to kill it all then retried n it worked. All my apps are saying installed. Thanks so much.

I see that error occasionally after using this fix, but I also sometimes see it after re-flashing the phone, and after other seemingly unrelated actions. It usually goes away for me if I just turn on wireless first before opening the Market app (no need to reinstall it). I think it's related to some error in the app or settings initialization, and not specific to this clean-up routine or anything else.
And yes, I've found that using a task killer also seems to help. Maybe indicative of another app blocking the Market from opening correctly at first run? I don't know, but once it goes away it doesn't seem to come back.
Thanks, this worked flawlessly.
Could I suggest you add "Solved" to the title of this thread so others that might have the same issue could use this?

Got it. Ive had to re do this fix after my phone shuts off, so its not permanent on my device. It might be for you, either way, it fixes it for awhile.

One other thing that will confuse the Market about what's kosher: using a non-standard LCD density.
In my case I had hard-coded build.prop to set ro.sf.lcd_density=300 and ever since I did that the Market website kept telling me that most of the apps I'd previously installed were not compatible with my Atrix 4G(!) My workaround was to revert to the default ro.sf.lcd_density=240 and then use the "LCDDensity" app to temporarily set it to 300. Whenever I need to go to the Market for something I just reboot the phone first and it reverts back to the default setting in build.prop.
If you've got it the other way around (e.g. build.prop is using a non-default setting, and you're using LCDDensity to override this back to the default), then that might explain why you're seeing this Market mischief return on reboot.
Even if you're not using LCDDensity (or you're using something else like "LCD Density Changer" which can make these changes permanent), you might want to check your current LCD density. Ditto for other property settings that might not be using their defaults.
Here's a list of all the things that the Market looks for to determine if a particular phone is compatible with an app:

I fixed for me installing through webbrowser: hxxps://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.earth&feature=search_result
But why i can not use market-application to install. Thats bad...
I'm having the exact same problem - no idea why.
Try this,
Go to manage applications, click on market and clear data, Now install the apps again.
Might work.
I tried to extract the Google Earth apk from the stock ROM and installed it. It installed, however it keeps force closing when i launch it. So i guess it's incompatible with CyanogenMod 7.1
Installs and works just fine on cm 7.1.0.1, but I also have matrix 8.5 kernel on top of cm

When I was on CM7.1, I didn't have any difficulties to install from local Market or Web Market.
Furthermore Google Earth has a lot of downloads, then it would say if there was a kind of bug we would be informed one or two days later and not one week.
Did you already try to clear/ wype Cache?

THX for this solution!
I found the solution to my issue regarding this as well. Apparently, if you change the device density, it will say device not compatible. I like running mine at 200 instead of default 240. So when I changed it back to 240, I was able to install/update all the apps.
Heeeeelllpp!!!
I convinced my girl to root her phone so i could "make it pretty" for her and well, part of my theming included changing the density down to 200. I used blade buddy to do it at first and it worked fine, except for the "device is not compatible" play store message. So i changed the density back to 240 again with blade buddy and it still gives me the incompatible message, even after wiping data from play store and rebooting with the default density! So i tried market enabler and that worked ONE time, now no matter what i do its not updating most of her apps and market enabler does nothing to help. Any suggestions, other than the obvious nandroid?
