Hi,
Seems like Sailfish OS was released by Jolla yesterday.
Is anyone considering porting this OS to never dying HD2?

How about a launcher based on it so that ALL Android-enabled devices can take advantage of it

Did you read yesterday's press release from Jolla?
http://jolla.com/media/documents/130916_press_release.pdf
They state, that Sailfish OS is now 100% compatible to Android SW and HW, which means it should be pretty easy to port the OS to our beloved HD2 =) !

he still had to write a bootloader & drivers. the same could be done for us with the right motivation.

because writing a bootloader and drivers for an open source OS is exactly the same as doing it for a close-source OS.
Is WebOs not open source?

When I switched from Pre to the Evo I thought Sprint would sell a lot of Evo's if they ran WebOS. I still cannot get my wife to do anything on my Evo, but she could use a Pre without problem.
Question is - has anyone actually ported WebOS to an Evo?
Android being OPEN source makes it easier for devs to port on whatever phone they choose. We have android and we keep asking for CLOSED sourced ports. Why don't we get this yet? Are you surprised that android gets ported to so many other phones including the iphone lol?

As Sailfish OS is much like meego, could it be ported to HD2?

Anything is possible with the HD2 but since the development on meego is pretty dead it's not easy since there are no devs in this section. It would be nice to see it on the HD2 as it is a really cool os.

well the development is far from dead. You should check out everythingn9.com they of course are constantly at work with the meego pr 1.3 amd have a full working port of jelly bean 4.1 dual boot, as well as access to the android app store (limited right now). They are working on booting harm pr 1.3 to android devices now, and sailfish SDK is not only already avail, but since the code is similar to linux (which is andriod, meego, webos etc) a port to those current type of OS's is not a problem. To something of a windows device it is possible, but you would have to pull one of these developers away to have them work on that kind of port. Which to me right now would be on the back burning, since they are most likely working on the full port to the N9, N950, and or a high end android device like a S3 or nexus 4.
Hi guys, I just saw SailFish has made it easier to port the OS to Android devices. Description http://www.jollausers.com/2014/07/sailfish-os-hardware-adaptation-dev-kit-release-1-0/
Anybody up to the challenge [emoji15]
Finally, been waiting for this. Hope the Z1C is compatible enough for daily usage.

As far as I can understand the announcement, they have made the porting work easier but still somebody has to do it [emoji6]
So hold your horses until some willing and capable enthusiast decides to put the effort (I am looking at you oshmoun and Omar [emoji15])

I might consider porting it, but there are many things in my to do list first, so will try after few days when I get free time (if no one has ported it then yet)

this would be great, having the of android and silfish os for xperia z1c.
Ah man!
Wish I had some space to spare on my laptop to do this
only 3-4 GB left :crying:
maybe the interest in sail fish os will increase when a stable version of sailfish launcher is out and people can test a little bit the "feel" of sailfish.
As the purpose of this thread in rather a discussion and not development I have moved it into General Section

That's sad, I don't have the knowledge to try it. Would be a dream to have the possibility to run sailfish on a z1c (and other devices).
What I saw and read about sailfish os seems to be very promising.
Damn would be so awesome to run sailfish on a z1c!!!
The best part of Sailfish on Z1c would be, doing away with onscreen navigation. I feel so @#$% not to have entire 4.3 inch screen at my disposal.
For Android there is a launcher, which is gesture based and does not need on-screen buttons. I am not sure about its name, but you will find it here on xda. I think it's called LMT...

There is a launcher for android from jolla (the company making sailfish os), called sailfish launcher. It's still an alpha, but the beta should be out in a few days (or maybe weeks).

Any News?
Hej Folks,
I was wondering wether there are any news considering the porting of Sailfish OS to our beloved Z1 Compact. Is there any possibility to do so at all? Or is it just because of the work going along with porting it? I'm a total noob and no idea how to port, but just asking.....
I'm also interesting in having SailfishOS on my Z1 compact. I can help test, if anyone is prepared to port it.
Cheers
Waiting for it, Omar said that maybe he could try to port, but... It seems that there is no interest
Enviado desde mi Z1 Compact
Omar is busy updating all his ROMs to Lollipop and making them run without bugs. I don't think he has time for this now
Hey,
are there any news on Sailfish OS für Z1c yet? I've read something about a new bootloader thing for xperia devices making it easier to install custom ROMs on those devices. I'd love to have a Sailfish OS-based phone, but am not willing to spend money for outdated specs at Jolla Phone and while my Z1c is still very much capable of most tasks.
Can't post links yet, but the news about the new bootloader stuff is i.e. on xperiablog . net
Today W10 has been released for the Xiaomi Mi4... A snapdragon based device... Do we have any chance to port it?

Mario,
It depends on the popularity of the device, the Mi4 will be sold more than the Note 3 due to Xiaomi's popularity in China!
It's certainly possible but keep in mind Windows 10 has been fully developed for the mi4. It is not a port and there is full support from Xiaomi on all the hardware.
If you're curious you should read HTC HD2 roms that were developed, this device runs almost any mobile OS. It's from 2010 and now there is also Android 6.0 being developed for it. Lollipop runs on it already. Let alone older versions of Windows Mobile.

Yes, the HD2 is a legend... So... Sammy will never give support to a project like this... (Sadly)
That would have been a great port anyway! I still hope in a porting... Even unstable

You guys have no idea how great Sailfish OS is. True that it doesn't looks good first obviously because you got used to Android just like you got used to windows than Linux.
I guarantee you you will love Sailfish OS if you use it for few days. Try it out before you come to any conclusion.
