I've seen a lot of comparisons and done some searches, but I haven't found a great thread really comparing the advantages of the new Nexus 4 over the Galaxy Nexus.
I have the Galaxy Nexus running on T-Mobile. I purchased the larger Samsung battery (~2100) and haven't had any complaints along those lines. The phone doesn't seem to lag and has been among the best devices I've owned.
I do agree the camera could have been better..I felt it was a step-down from the camera on the T-Mobile G2 I had previously. I also wish phone manufacturers would put a dedicated camera button on the phone!
Forget about cost...why should I upgrade?
Thanks!
It's new and shiny.

why buy an n4 when you have the gnexus?
1. samsucks plastic toys are lame
2. specs are twice as good as crapsung
did you really need a thread for that?
there are a total of 5 threads in the entire nexus 4 subforum. the rest are just repeats. mods should start getting more aggressive.

If you already have the GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus the only reason to upgrade is if you want better hardware.
Me on the other hand, I have the VZW version so there's a lot of room for improvement for me to go GSM.
If I upgrade, its because I want faster HSPA+ speeds. I don't really like where the headphone jack is placed, tho. I like it on the bottom of the Gnex.
The nexus 4 looks nice but the glass back is so easy to break

-IPS Display is reason enough to upgrade! I can't stand pentile screens... also its higher resolution.
-HSPA+ 42mbps
-Quad Core S4 Pro / Adreno 320
-2GB Ram
-bigger battery 2100 vs 1850 mah
-much better camera...
Can you think of a reason NOT to upgrade?
Thanks...
In the future if one of my posts bothers you please feel free to ignore it.

Exactly - it's cause I can!
Thank you...I think my decision is going to hinge on the camera. If it proves to be markedly better I'm in.
New and shiny is fine, but it takes a while to setup a phone just right, install apps, setup screens, folders, etc. There's gotta be a solid reason to go through that drudge...

I'm switching from the Gnex for the IPS LCD screen, bigger battery (although I'm sad it is non-removable), and the camera. I could care less about the processor and RAM because the gnex is more than enough for me in those categories. I also don't like the form factor of the gnex with the big hump thing at the bottom; I would rather just have it be all one thickness the the N4. I love my nexus and wouldn't trade it for anything... except the NEXT NEXUS!!
simple, its shiny and new and has nexus in the name.
this guy compared n4 to GNex throughout the review

The resolution is practically the same (both around 720p) although IPS vs. pentile may be a bit of a plus. Also, the GNex on Verizon is theoretically almost twice as fast as HSPA+/42. I've got the extended 2100 mah battery as well.
My thought is that the Nexus 4 will be snappier, take better pictures, and get better updates and less meddling from Verizon. HSPA+/42 is only offered by T-Mobile in the states whereas AT&T only supports HSPA+/21. Might be enough for me to switch to T-Mobile but the $240 to end my Verizon contract is a bit daunting.
It's an easy decision for me, I get to upgrade my phone after 10 months buy selling my Gnex all for less than £100.

Upgrade the phone for not only the better build quality but the improvements google has put into the hardware.
Faster and better multitasker. And let's not forget wireless charging and bragging rights!

freaking hell how many apps do you have then? to set up a phone the way you want will not take you an eternity you know.. i am coming from the One X section and i have to say i love that phone to bits but looking at the Nexus it just looks amazing and i want it and plus i know the development for this phone will be something else..hence why i am going for it
I don't think one necessarily need to upgrade if you know how to customize the OS. Its still a very good user experience. Galaxy Nexus is still a great phone and would be my next recommendation after the LG Nexus. But if you can afford it then go for it.

Hi folks,
Having been an owner of many HTC's, I just wanted your advice as to whether or not you think it's worth purchasing the HTC One?
I had the One X and wasn't that impressed and ended up selling it and going for the S3, which I like, despite the numerous S-Apps which I never use :/
Anyway, I'm due an upgrade and can't decide what to go for.
HTC One (looks good)
iPhone 5 (I know the 5s or 6 will be out come Sept, but at least iPhone's sell for more on eBay should I want to sell my phone and buy a new one)
Samsung Galaxy S4 (lots of new functions)
I really want to like the HTC One, but the mediocre camera is putting me off :/

if you like your s3 then it makes sense that you will like s4 too, its just the same, only improved.
having said that, i wouldn't rule out the One based on the fact that you didn't like the One X - as I'm sure you have seen, HTC pretty much went back to the drawing board in every single area.
try both.
EDIT. is it worth it? absolutely yes.
i'd go with the gs4. it offers much more than the one and is also faster, with better battery life, and sd card support. I won't even mention the barometer and thermometer lol. But if you like aluminum, go with the one. I personally think the GS4 looks much more minimal and sleeker than the one.

Those are just the things you want a phone needs too have.. Sd card.
The battery is only 300 mah larger then the one but itll definitely has too deal with the software that runs on the phone. So no, the S4 doesnt has a better battery life and yes it has a largerbattery. But it depends on the software.
If like me - and as you have that you dont use the s-functions on the S3, then the S4 has no real advantage over the One, it's just going to be more of the same and a UI that hasnt really changed for years and has apparently take a step back to Froyo.
Iphone 5 - yep good phone, if you want just a phone.
Can you see where I am heading?
Why yes... Mercedes C class and BMW 3 series do look much sleeker and minimalistic as compared to a Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Aventador.
*sigh* PLEASE, let's not make (this into) another comparison thread that might be closed.
Yes, the HTC One is definitely a contender in the slew of smartphones that will be available in 2013. I would suggest looking at the features and reviews of the various phones to find one that will completely suit your needs. Every phone will have pros and cons for different people.
For example, if you're looking at solely camera functions, HTC One will definitely perform better in low light, compared to SGS4 and iPhone 5 cameras. If that is something you look for in a camera, then you should more seriously consider the One. If you want a better all-around camera and don't need or want low-light features, then you should look into other phones.
It's really difficult for anybody to tell you whether the One is worth it for you. Depends 100% on what you look for in a phone, which is different than what the next person wants in their phone.
Pathetic why are Samsung fans trolling our forums is beyond me
Inferiority complex?
The camera is not mediocre but pretty good. If camera is the most important aspect of a phone to you then do your research properly. Try both out, however HTC one is the best phone out there performance is top notch second to none.
Most who own it or tried it have recommended it.
actually GS4 has better performance (fact) better battery life (fact) and is a better phone overall imho.
And you know this because you've been using the gs4 for the last 16 days right?
What do you mean, you haven't got one because it hasn't been released yet?
Oh! You looked at a spec sheet and made assumptions! Silly me. I thought you'd had 16 days of hands on experience. Sorry, my bad.

I tried the HTC One the other day, because i am still debating whether or not to go with that or the S4.
It has a luxurious feeling(htc one) but for me, the way it layed in my hand wasn't totally awesome, then again, never had an aluminum phone.
I find the camera very much overrated, being made up to be the "new shizzle" deffo, but this is the first generation of the new shizzle and i am not all to impressed with quality.
The major turn off for me was the position of the power button, it feels awkward in the top, but then again, might just be me being used to it sitting on the side of it.
Imo though, don't just go with what looks pretty but runs well, a cover can do much to the cheap feeling of the samsung, i know i am getting one on mine, if i decide for the S4

To be honest, all I use my phone for is Facebook, watching vids on youtube, taking photos (generally for Facebook). I try not to use it for calls, but people keep phoning me
I'm not entirely sure by the whole 'low light' photo thing as I usually just turn the flash on if it's dark
I like the look of the blink feed on the One too. Looks quite nice and it's about time they updated some if their stuff.
I just hope I don't sign up for the One, and in 2 weeks time the OneA is announce with an 8 Ultapixel camera, because that's part of the reason I gave up with HTC. Too much of the same thing when they should just concentrate on one very good device :banghead:

Several reviewers has made test over a few days or so, where the samsung genereally pulled ahead with round about 1/3 more battery life, which is alot, but well that depends on what they used it for really, it has a lot to do with software, so when the HTC One gets updated to 4.2.2 it might be fixed (one can hope)

HTC One is better IMHO.
Better screen, better materials.
Battery is bigger on the S4 so it should perform better - wooppy-effin-doo.
Performance wise there is not much of a difference and not enough to be a deal breaker for anyone on the fence.

If you use it just for that, well i wouldn't upgrade, it's a better quality photo, but that is just about it what you get with a brighter screen
Several factors to choose this or that phone..
Build quality comes first for me not power. Is why i never owned Samsung phones and stuck to HTC. HTC feel solid, despite the dust under the screen issue they had.
SD or no SD.. To me is not important.
Battery life depends on what power the phone packs.. and also what ROM you put in it if you choose to S=Off and offcourse Dev support
...camera.. if it is important.
I have little hopes for next iPhone.. They fooled me once already upgrading from 4 to 4S a while back which i regretted. I wouldn´t even get the 5 if i knew otherwise. Personally im done with iOS, the iPhones bore the hell out of me.. even when jailbroken.. besides i have an iPad.

Battery life
Got the Korean version, I was truly afraid that due to the huge display and all the special gimmicks the battery would be drained very soon.
Well, unlike my expectations, when I turn everything off - wifi, data, auto sync, lower the display brightness etc. it is much much better than the LGOG I had before. I used to have an ATandT version because I need sd card slot, that is why I preferred the Korean version even though the battery capacity is lower. But I get it through the night with less than 5 per cent loss of juice. I was pretty amazed because before I rooted the LGOG and downloaded the fast dormancy switch and other stuff that help save the device from complete discharge before the next evening, I used to charge it to the full in the evening and in the next morning I was at 82 per cent.... Of course, If I play games, surf and watch videos, it is a different story, but still, when I compare it to the LGOG, it does much better even in this respect - and I am not yet rooted...
So, from my experience - yes, the 2610 mAh battery has smaller capacity than 3000, but it is still pretty impressive and the interchangable battery and micro sd card slot are the assets that are definitely worth it.
Things like this confuse the heck out of me. The Korean version has the removable battery and SD card, two things that are desired in the USA, but we won't get that design. I don't get it.

Me neither. I am from Europe and it is the same story here. I have to say I am really satisfied with the Korean type, two batteries are better than one, after all 3000 < 2x 2610... micro sd is great and it works perfect.

So simple in fact. In Western world the iphone is most popular model so LG tries makes "iphone" w/o slot and removable battery to please western ppl. Also, Nexis too don't have slots and removable batteries. And in Korea every model sells with 2 batteries included even Galaxy Note II had 2 batteries, it's a must. Only LGOG had non-removable battery. So for native korean ppl LG tries to make alternative for Galaxy S IV, and put slot and 2 batteries, and w/less charger in separate cover. For European w/less charger will be selling in separate case

Moto G review
http://www.androidcentral.com/moto-g-review
The Moto G easily the best cheap Android phone you can buy right now. (And probably the only Android phone at this price point that delivers a user experience of this quality.) Every criticism of the Moto G has to be framed against its ludicrously low price. It’s frankly amazing that a manufacturer is able to put together a device like the Moto G for £135 and make money selling it.
Nuthin' but a 'Moto G' thang
Great phone, but it doesn't have sdcard slot
Had Moto G for about 24 hours now, I am so impressed with this phone. I really want to let everyone know about it I have compared this phone a lot with Samsung S4, not because I hate it, instead it was my last phone and I have used it for months, so have a good idea of what I am on about
Screen
Some may consider the resolution on this phone being too low, compared to the high end flagship phones this is about 100 ppi less. But does this mean the screen is bad? No. In fact, I am loving it more than the AMOLED on Samsung s4. First of all, I am just going to say that above 300ppi I can't tell the difference. To me, 400+ ppi = higher battery drain + requires more CPU + requires more GPU. Just why? Maybe there are some untold benifit of higher ppi screens, but to me I just don't see any advantage what so ever. Apart from the fact you could say to your mate "my phone's ppi is higher than yours...". So this to me is a big thumb up!
Speed
Before we talk about anything else, I want to mention speed of this phone. My S4 was running stock android 4.3 means I should see a massive different when I switch to this phone. But the reality is not the case, it really doesn't appear to be that much of a difference. There may be 1/5 of a speed difference when opening apps, but that is like 0.2 seconds? Even for inpatient person like me, it is more than acceptable. At the end of the day, it make you think what Samsung is doing with their snapdragon 600, when moto g can keep up using a snapdragon 400... This is on stock android, don't even mention touch wiz... But seriously find a review video or go to a shop and see it for yourselves.
Software/ROM
Well not much to say here, it is running basically stock Android 4.3 with a few minor tweaks e.g. camera.
Storage
8gb or 16gb, it is always the question. Previously i'd say get 16gb, more future proof, however I choose 8gb this time. Not because of the 50gb gdrive storage (pointless if you have no internet connection), instead you could get OTG so if you really want to watch films on trips you can do that. Otherwise, 5.5gb is enough for general app installs. For photos, turn on auto google+ photo back up (or dropbox backup whichever fits u better) then delete the photos on your phone once they are uploaded.
Camera
Haven't really tested it, but at least ok from what I can see and don't expect it to match DSLR
Hardware/Ergonomics
+ Curved back, easy to hold. I especially like the dented "M" logo, it gives more grip, helps when I need to touch the top of the screen.
- Phone is a bit heavy, for people like reading lying down for a long time might be a bit of a pain.
+ Back cover is removable, awesome! In fact, there a lot of covers coming out soon.
- Although, back cover is hard to remove and a bit slippery, not so awesome.
+ Volume key & power key on the same side.
- Clean design, coming from HTC and Samsung, I really enjoy this kind of simple design. I don't like the HTC/Samsung logo on the most obvious place on your phone kinda ruins the look of the phone.
+ No physical keyboard (some may consider this to be a minus instead of a plus), I am just glad don't need to worry about menu wearing out over time
- Speaker on the back side of the phone
+ Due to curved back, no speaker sound is actually trapped when you place it on the back
+ Both headphone port and micro-usb port are located middle of top and bottom side of the phone respectively, again just simple and nice to look at
- No 4G connectivity. Not a problem for me, as I don't even get 3G where I live, a lot of people living in cities might find this some what a deal breaker.
- No removable battery
- No expandable storage
Battery Life
All i am going to say is 4.5 hours screen on time, 60% left. :good: I am not convinced the stats is accurate, so testing it right now to see if it is really that good.
Update: second time, 4hours22min screen on time, 8 and half hours on battery, 43% remaining.
FM Radio
I was never a radio fan, always thought it was kinda out-of-date technology. Then I moved to an area where there are hardly any 3g/2g coverage at all on the way to work, karma i guess... You might say just download music from google music/sportify, but I don't change my songs frequent enough and it just gets old. Conclusion: always better to have a phone that has FM radio than a phone that doesn't.
Notification light
It is plain silly to me why some OEM would even consider not include a notification light on their phone. *cough* iphone. *cough* windows phone. It make things so much easier, when all you need to do is glance at it rather than turn on the screen, then turn it off again just to check if your missing anything important. There is no more needs saying, it is just playing annoying without one, so another plus.
Value for money
For most of the people, money is a key factor when buying a new phone. Even if the price is not a burden, you might still get the same feeling as me, thinking it cost quite a lot and make the promise to use it for 2 years or more. Well, with this phone you won't get that. In fact, I brought mine thinking I will use it as a back up phone since no other phone has its spec in its price range. But after I started using it, I couldn't put it down. Now I am not even considering getting nexus 5 which was going to be my main phone.
What I look forward to
Hell this is XDA, obviously I want lots and lots of ROMs XD. But I also can't wait for 4.4 to come out and ART to be stable. I imagine it would make this phone even faster. Saw some comparisons between Dalvik and ART, have to say ART wins hands down especially considering it is still in development stage.
Final thoughts
So happy with this phone, and mostly happy about Motorola stepping up and giving us this product. This is important in the sense, they are fighting a price battle for us, the consumers. We should show some support to let the other OEMs know it is not about how much they spend money on advertising, it is giving us a great product with a reasonable price instead of throw in some latest chips and mark it £599 rubbish which is basically what is happening right now.
Tips
I would recommend everyone get this phone, and get the 8gb version. Since it cost so little, no one could moan at you when you get a new phone next year

Had Moto G for about 24 hours now, I am so impressed with this phone I really want to let everyone know about it I have compared this phone a lot with Samsung S4, not cos I hate it, but simply because it was my last phone and I have used it for months. So have a good idea of what I am on about
Screen
Some may consider the resolution on this phone is too low, compared to the high end flagship phones it is about 100 ppi less. But does this mean the screen is bad? No. In fact, I am loving it more than the AMOLED on Samsung s4. First of all, I am just going to say that above 300ppi I can't tell the difference. To me, 400+ ppi = higher battery drain + requires more CPU + requires more GPU. Just why? Maybe there are some untold benifit of higher ppi screens, but to me I just don't see any advantage what so every apart from the fact you could say to your mate "my phone's ppi is higher than your...". So this to me is a big thumb up!
Speed
Before we talk about anything else, I want to mention speed of this phone. My last phone being Samsung S4 running stock android 4.3 means I should see a massive different when I switch to this phone. But the reality is different, it really doesn't make that much of a difference.
Previously i'd say get 16gb, more future proof, however I choose 8gb this time. not because of the 50gb gdrive storage (pointless if you have no internet connection), instead you have OTG so if you really want to watch films on trips you can do that.
- Phone is a bit heavy, for people like reading lying down might be a bit of a pain.
+ Back cover is removable, awesome! In fact, there a lot of covers coming out soon.
- Although, it is hard to remove and a bit slippery, not so awesome.
+ Volume key & power key on the same side.
- Clean design, coming from HTC and Samsung, I really enjoy this kind of simple design. I don't like the HTC/Samsung logo on the most obvious place on your phone kinda ruins the look of the phone.
+ No physical keyboard (some may consider this to be a minus instead of a plug), don't need to worry about menu wearing out over time
- Speaker on the bottom of the phone
+ Due to curved back, no speaker sound is actually trapped when you place it on the back
+ Both headphone port and micro-usb port are in the middle of top and bottom side of the phone respectively, again just simple but nice to look at
- No 4G connectivity. Not a problem for me, as I don't even get 3G where I live, a lot of people living in cities might find this some what a deal breaker.
- No removable battery
- No expandable storage
Battery Life
All i am going to say is 4.5 hours screen on time, 60% left. :good: I am not convinced by the stats, so testing it right now to see if it is really that good.
Makes thing so much easier, when all you need to do is glance at it rather than turn on the screen, then turn it off again just to check if your missing anything important.
Basically

In trying to figure out how this works because 2000mAh isn't even that big for a 4.5" screen.
For instance my Galaxy Note has a 5.2" screen which is roughly 10% bigger but has a 2500mAh battery which is 20% bigger. At best I've been able to get 5h SOT which is everything low or off, usually I get 3-4 which I consider decent because the nexus 5 gets around 3-5h SOT and has a similar size screen and battery.

The Note had a 5.3" screen.. That makes screen 38% bigger.
Also, the software makes a difference. And maybe the Snapdragon 400 is more efficient than the Exynos used by Samsung
I was going to say, your maths is a bit off there at 10%. You need to look at the area, not the diagonal length.
If you think back to when 4.5" screens where the norm on top end devices, most batteries were less than 1600mAh. The Desire HD for example had about 1300mAh I think.

....software optimization can go a long way, Motorola has compared the Moto G’s performance with the Samsung Galaxy S4, when performing minor tasks. Despite Moto G’s mid-range SoC, lower amount of RAM and less powerful graphics chip, the handset apparently manages to make a call 1.1 seconds faster than the Galaxy S4, it answers a call 1.2 seconds faster, returns home 0.5 seconds faster and boots up 5.3s quicker too....

Let's look at the numbers,
The Galaxy Note has a 1280x800 @5.3 inch screen -> 4.49" × 2.81" = 12.62in²
The Moto G has a 1280x720 @4.5 inch screen -> 3.92" × 2.21" = 8.65in²
-> The Galaxy Note has a screen 45.9% larger than the Moto G
-> The Galaxy Note also features a battery 25% larger than the Moto G
Remember, that the 4.5 and 5.3 numbers are the diagonal size and do not linearly represent relative screen sizes
The Moto G has a better (battery:screen size) ratio than the Galaxy Note.
How have you found the vibration motor on it? - to anyone who has one in hand yet.
The one in my Skate seems to make more noise than movement

Lol the v20 already has a second screen... It's even better than the HTC U Ultra second screen. If your talking about making a mod that'll make second screen work on custom ROMs then good luck finding that bud! It'll take a while no knowing when it'll be available or if.
You're talking about the HTC U Ultra right? The phone hasn't even been around long enough to get development and the chances are this phone isn't going to be a big success because:
- reportedly the battery life is terrible, it's only 3000mAh capacity on a 5.7 screen with a secondary display. The review I read is the guy got a mere 3 hour screen on time with brightness adjustments. A second review played 8 ball pool and literally dropped 23% in 5 minutes. I think the 3200 capacity in the v20 is too small I could only imagine 3000.
- it has no headphone jack for no reason at all, the phone isn't thin.
- audio wasn't a priority in this phone where as HTC is known for some great sound (through the speakers) this is absent there is no advanced dac either.
- camera is poor in quickness and color accuracy..
It's a great looking phone no doubt but it doesn't look like it's going to be a huge success, you'd be better off getting a v20 instead.
If it doesn't have selling success there isn't going to be much development.

This guy is a derp...
I wonder if HTC is already starting to copy unique features from other phones lol . I mean, Up until now, the V series where the only one with the 2nd screen on the top of the phone's main screen.... and now here comes the HTC U Ultra ( which i wouldnt buy because it doesnt look appealing to me and i havent even seen the Specs yet lol let me look at then now while writing this) HOLLY COWS! Now, this phone is a Really no go for me LOL! It lacks everything i need. And i 2nd @evo4g63t post. I doubt they will sell a significant amount of that phone. Unless.... they drop the price to about 350 or maximum 450.
But now back to the topic, there are a handful of devs (maybe it will expand more) that are trying to creating their own source for the second screen to avoid copyrights infringement etc...

Chances are pretty low right now to achieve, but with more minds combined (expert on the subject - minds), chances might increase. But as of now, they are the only ones working on that and thus second screen mods are in their hands too.
