This is my first android phone. I had the htc touch hd before but didn't flash or anything. I have to say android is great but does need some getting used to which is a fun element in its own aspect.
Desire HD is great !!!! When you heard it's fast, believe you think it's fast but you have no idea. It's instant...almost too fast for some people's liking...
I'm pretty sure you've read many reviews so i'll just cover main points.
First of all the back covers aren't that much of a hassle, i quite like that design with unibody design...although sure they could've used better plastic but it's not something you would care about.
The screen despite it being "normal LCD" is so amazing...it's so viabrant until i compared to sgs then i was like ehh...however watching images and movies...the sgs over did the colours and sharpness...Dhd just the perfect natural images. and oh yeah it's very very clear. AND BIG.
Battery i'm afraid isn't impressive...11 hours only but that may because it'd had all sync on's,everything on and heavy use since it's new...but 11 hours is still poor.
Now i'm not a photographer or anything but i thought the camera was great and the recording at 720p was amazing too but i'm not qualified to judge very accurately on that.
Now the speaker doesn't do this phone justice but don't get me wrong it's not that bad. I see people making it sound like it's hopeless..."I missed calls when the phone was next to me" ? is a complete lie...i have to say i heard the phone in the next room this morning while i was getting ready. It's "hearable" as in usable but it's still poor
but not deal breaker issues
Apart from that this is pretty much the perfect phone for a long time now...
unibody design with 4.3 inch screen? I don't think anything will match it very soon
I love this phone ...a bit too much...despite the bad battery life.
Android first timer as well.
So far, no regrets. A few complaints ( like the power button execution and the inadequate battery ) but nothing worth diminishing that grim on my face when I put on Avatar or Backbreaker in the gaps btw lectures at uni and immediately theres a crowd of 20 DHD-owner wannabes on my head. They say the best advertisement is making someth brilliant and lettin it speak for itself. Well those korean muffies it. Period ;]
my only regret is I cannot have 3g on my carrier (rogers)..... so I am in limbo right now.... so with no 3g and usb debugging on, the battery lasts me all day... I turn off wifi and gps when not in use.... if I decide to keep the phone, I will get another battery....
I also love the phone, but I am very disappointed in the camera and flash.... If I look at a yellow piece of paper through the phone, it looks white.... the screen and photos look washed.... but I do love the size. Wifi is so fast and smooth on this phone....
adding the otterbox case, makes the power button and volume rocker much more accessible....
Over all, a great phone.... but I do not know if I can make it without 3g
Hey good Review...liked u being very frank in the review. considering you are a first timer...this device is gonna keep u busy for atleast some time...as u pointed out...its gonna take some time of getting used to...but u won't regret the time spent learning this...

Until you've flashed a custom rom and oc kernel...only then can you say its fast hahaha...because trust me...stock is not that fast at all...

They will come out with duo core processors early 2011 ( but then again there's always delay on everything these days) secondally i heard it'll be useless...since you don't need that much processing power.
never the less it may be usefull with other features released in the future. They won't make a 4.3 inch duo core soon enough...might start off with a 3.7 then that uni body design won't be duplicated till ages.
A 3.7 dual core handset would be just great but I can't see it coming any time soon. The trend seems now to be more towards 4" plus. Still having the debate with myself whether the 4.3 inches of the dhd is just too much or whether the trade offs are worth it. Then of course there is the small matter of £500 if I want it in a reasonable timescale!

A comment on the flush power button. I see many people complained (including myself) about the power button being hard to press and effort to reach since it's on top of the phone...you have to curve your finger around it kinda...if you get what i mean...I figured...since the headphone jack is on the bottom now ( it makes sense for wires to hang at the bottom when you hold it - personally i like the initiative..) hence you would put the phone upside down in your pocket and it'll easily press the power button in some cases...I think that may be the reason for flush power button...But since the volume keys are also flush...i guess there's a chance they've just messed it up...but never the less i found the power button useful in some aspect...

IMO, Disappointing "upgrade" to one X.. HD2 Still the king! So, I sold it off and is back to my trusty Good Quality Phone.

We had an X1 on demo, our outcome was buying 20 new Andida cells for current HD2 fleet & aiming at another 12 month+ service life as nothing to offer but a IT hassle changing over to something with no heavy benefits & a big price tag. HTC handsets really need to implement better inovation & some clever reworking of Android ...

Personally, I am not big fan of sense unless in the older times of wm6.5. I just favour HTC for their build quality and dev support for custom roms unlike some plasticky builds like ahem*..S*M***G
Honestly I must be blind not to read properly that OneX is polycarbonate.. As far as I remember, their higher end model have excellent built. Sadly, not this one though..

I am only mentioning stuffs that I would be considered as an "upgrade" over the HD2 . All comments are imo. U may say I am bias but these are my true feelings and experience. My HD2 are usually switching between GB Nand roms in general.
Built quality- Polycarbonate=Plastic most of the reviews and even those in store are the white version which looked better.. but i am true to HTC, which usually produce industrial designs so, white will never be for me.. all my phone are black or dark colour.. I am truly shocked at the quality of the material used.
Screenwise- Honestly, I imagine the screen will be a huge reason for upgrade. 720p, SLCD2, gorilla glass, 4.7in screen etc. BUT, its really does not feel much bigger as the screen ratio makes it taller. I mostly use the phone in landscape so compared to hd2, it really only a few mm wider. abt 3mm at most. I have a HTC Titan as well, absolutely love the screen size and ratio. The only time I love the One X screen is when I am watching a movie on it.. any ****ty grainy video quality looks gorgeous on it!
Processor- Yeah.. so it have a 4+1 core processor, 1GB ram.. HD2 1ghz single core, 512mb ram. Day to day usage, its does feel faster BUT, Just by a few millisecs.. I can live with that.. Free ram for ONE X is pathetic.. 300+mb left after running sense. HD2, 200+ to close to 300mb without sense. (I mentioned b4, I hate sense on android). theres no way a phone can replace a computer for work. Its mostly for adhoc. So, its there really need for such a processor on a phone??
Battery life- Theres no need to comment further.. sucks. People will say that this is normal for a superphone. But imo, if HD2 can do similar function though millisec slower, HD2 is the superphone.
Camera- The biggest letdown imo. Stupid Autofocusing works half the time so what if it have zero lag...
Wifi/3G connection- For some reason, after the phone screen off, the data on both Wifi and 3g sleeps as well. Coz very often, when I wake the phone there will be a error message smthing like this " no network, pls check connection". This means I will be missing emails, whatsapp messages etc that works via data.
Minor irritating things- Super cheap quality headset for Flagship model is a joke.. at least include a in-ear type..pls.. Most of the time, I cant find the volume rocker.. It too darn small.
There are many more that I cant remember...
If I have so many complains, why did I buy this? Because my contract is up and I trust HTC blindly. And the dimmly lit shop doesnt help much either.
I am just glad this overhyped phone is no longer with me.

guys go the One X forum and check the tons of user reviews, so many of us are in awe with the One X, there are only the issues of build defects in early batches, everything else its an uber, brisk, super sexy device

Well.. That thread is all abt the best shots that users have taken with the one x camera. Naturally, all the shots will look good.. Mine does not have any hardware related issue and in direct comparison to the HD2, OneX is without doubt better. My point is that, is the One X that great a upgrade from the hd2 ? IMHO, call me strange or fussy, my answer is still no. Neither is it worth all the hype. Its just another phone with better or even great specs but in real life, the performance is subpar.. Entirely imo. Maybe I have too high expectations for it.

all the crazy bugs/glitches have been sorted by firmware 1.29, took them less than a month to clear them out
we still have only one issue which is backlight flickering when the phone overheats, seems related to Tegra 3's power saving feature called PRISM, which controls back-light dynamically to save power, HTC said its software and promised an update soon
so please spare me, the fastest and most generous Android updates provider is HTC, most of their end of 2010 devices are receiving the ICS upgrade too
I would have to admit the Note was better liked than he One X when had them on Demo ...
Samsungs efforts on Android seemed better than HTC for most practical phone use.
Sound quality on HTC still is very poor & the build quility & design of the current polycarbonate plastic handsets is not that good, no wonder 2012 sales are down ...
Yeah. With a history of sexy metal outfits on higher end device, I am deeply disappointed. I dun care if its polycarbonate. If its plastic, it just feels plastic.

I love the material, very strong and very light in weight. You might prefer a bakelite phone, but technology has moved on.

If you want a bigger phone, get the galaxy note.

You only need the speed for games. For the rest, when using an OS/UI a few millisecs make a lot of difference. But if you don't care for that, the HD2 will do just fine. I wonder why you are even considering an upgrade.

I wonder this too, just keep your HD2, 2012 technology just isn't for you.
I agree on Sense thing.
I just don't get why all those manufactuers are trying to make the user 'happier'.
Android is really customizable (unlike iOS ) so one can set his/her system according to personal preferences.
Pr0 users are going to root and install something like CM/AOKP anyway...
So... Why the hell manufactuers can't just release phones with stock unlocked bootloaders + plain, AOSP compiled Android, and whole vendor/build/kernel related stuff?!
I came from an HD2 too.
I take some of these points - but the One X is a evolution of the HD2, not a revolutionary device.
If I had paid NZ$900 for the phone to upgrade from the HD2 I wouldn't be that happy - I agree it probably isn''t worth it. But I took a 'free' upgrade.
But the bottom line is, it is the best Android phone you can buy.
Once the AOSP roms come, i think you will really see the One X pull ahead.
Still awaiting update to OP's blog.What exactly were you expecting from the phone? Holographic video calling? Concierge Service? a BJ whenever you felt randy lol?

My personal choice was between three hadsets:
HTC One X
Galaxy S3
LG 4X HD
All have basically the same spec with minor variances.
I Pre-Ordered and recieved the One X upon release to great delight...
However, there were a couple of things i didn't like which were:
the 1800mAh battery
the lack of an SD slot
the unibody shell
More power is needed to run a quad-core handset & 4.3" screen comfortably for a day. Although it had 32gb, i currently have a 16gb in my HD2 and it's loaded. I like to be able to change my battery if i needed rather than having to send it of for a repair or smple change...as well as getting easier access to it.
Outside of these gripes, it is a great phone but it didn't hit me as oustanding as the HD2 when it was released.
My Galaxy S3 is also on Pre-order, but that wll come with a 2100mAh battery...which s also accessable. It has an SD slot whch can accomodate 32gb on top of the 16-32or 64gb on the phone.
These alone sell this phone to me and not the Samsung name or the screen which is on par with the One X apart from size...i was hoping HTC had something just a bit better than the One X.
Lastly there's the LG 4X HD not due till approx June...so a long wait.
I can't say owt apart from released specs, and they look good...it's a pity the phone is an ugly bugger.
To conclude, i wouldn't knock the One X comparing it to the HD2 they're a world apart. Although a great phone, the HD2 is outclassed in every way by the new crop of handsets...maybe not with build tho'.
However, in saying that...it's only now that i'm prepared to replace it. this says heaps about the longevity of the HD2. Long may it continue to show how it's done.
you have to be very carful when comparing different OSs across different hardware, several generations apart.
on paper the one x is better in everyway, I don't have one so cant comment on build quality, but I can say the HD2 has issues with the buttons and the digitiser.
however the real question is do you need it?
as you pointed out the 3 YEAR old HD2 runs absolutely fine, running WP in my opinion is as fast as you can get, the limiting factor in the UI is me, I cant move any quicker so having a better CPU or GPU wont make any difference.
So, does a quad core SoC make any difference? nope, not one iota when comparing it to an HD2 with WP and running day to day "phone" tasks
Will it (one x) run games better, of course it will, we have a S1 snapdragon in the HD2, with a very old A200 GPU, but that's irrelevant if you don't play games.
So I guess the question is, is the one x a worthwhile upgrade... for me no its not, will it be worth it for some people, yeah, if games are your thing.
Ive been debating about upgrading my HD2 to a real WP device and I simply cant justify it, and I think that's the point the OP is making, despite 3 years of "progress" there really hasn't been anything worthwhile if games aren't your thing.
Of Course we are talking about Android here, and if you compare android on the two devices then you have a different situation, I don't want to get in to an which OS is better debate but I think we can all agree that Android needs more horsepower to get it running well, if that's progress for an phone OS in your mind then so be it, but, that is that fact of the matter
Ah.. That's the word. " justify". It simply not justifiable to blow $800 to get a new hardware that does things a little faster or better. Theres no wow factor to this phone at all other than the specs. Maybe its not optimised yet, but the first impression is disappointing enough. I have to admit i am quite a htc fanboy but this device does not cut as a flagship. Camera is in a way better but the interface really screw up. Its simply a great challenge to get it to focus on something especially in macro. If u still have to get it done manually, I think this camera has failed. Android and sense combo is simply not a great combo looking at how One X runs on it. It still lags or daydream at times. mind u, hd2 hardware is 3 years old and day to day usage, its still performs well or on par. Screen resolution, colour, brightness on One x is way way better. I am just saying the ratio is wrong imo. If i want a bigger screen than the HD2, i would expect it to be bigger in all directions. And not just taller. i have to admit for HD2, when i am outdoor, i struggles to see the screen, which i really hate. My point is, as another poster has said. OneX is just like a evolution of the HD2. Not a revolution. I would love to one a One X again. But not at this kind of price tag and definitely at at this current stage of development.
To Reckless- i would want a phone to function as a phone. HD2 does just as well with 3 or 4 cores lesser. unfortunately, it doesn't do a bj. If i ever need one, i will pm U.
Alright, we all know what the drill is. i dropped my TITAN II and now i can't wait to get a replacement for it. I have been buying the flagship device of each wave of Windows Phone from HTC so i think i can try something new as well.
I know you probably thinking "This is another bullsh!t thread that as for the opinion and will end between a post or 2" , but please help me out here.
Coming down to the 920 vs 8X, a lot of poles has been made and look like the flavor goes to the 920. But i think i should take it from my own opinion, not just critic and others people thoughts.
1. Carrier : Not a big deal, i am on AT&T , GoPhone service to be specific, but i do travel international sometime. 8X get a little advantage here , but it is not hard to get an unlocked code for the Lumia either.
2. Storage: Personally, 16GB is enough for me, 32GB is nice but not a MUST.
3. Color : I don't give a sh!t, flat black is what i am getting either one of them.
4. Screen Size : A mix. I started with the HD2 4.3", and HD7 with 4.3" as well before i went full 2 years with 4.7" (HTC TITAN and TITAN II). 4.5 might be a smaller drop from 4.7" but 4.3 is not too bad either.
5. Camera : I am no photographer but sometime do demand some nice and clean shots. There are a lot of mixed review for the PureView Technology on the Lumia , as well as a lot of review said the 8X Camera is somewhat equal or worse than the One X. <= I don't really know, you guys help me here.
6. Battery : Both Non-Removable (Pain in the ass for sure), the Lumia is slightly higher but the usage is kind of the same as the 8X according to some reviews (due to the larger screen).
7. Performance : Both phones are matched...
8. Audio performance: *In the Dust*, i don't trust whatever Beats made and i am questioning the Dolby effect from Nokia too. I own myself a pretty good earbuds as well as some decent headphones.
9. Support: Unclear. Microsoft has been revealed about the way they update the phone is OTA (over-the-air), suspecting to by-pass carrier testing (which takes forever). if not, the World Version of 8X wins hand down.
10. Price : The No-Contract AT&T Locked Lumia stock at $450, the World-Unlocked version can rank up to $800, which not reasonable. the World Version of 8X is around $550-$600 right now, which is affordable for me.

11. History: The history really back HTC up for me. Although they said Windows Phone 8 won't even have a chance to have Custom ROM but who knows? Unless i hear it myself from the DFT. And the history of World Phone HTC really back the opinion up. HTC phones usually get the Custom ROM/ HSPL first.
They seem to be so evenly matched to me. Lose some and win some at both phones. Please let me know your opinion. Thanks.
For the Camera - it will depend on the situations in which you mainly take photos. For me it is quite often at parties or otherwise in the evenings which IS a situation in which the PureView actually performs better then anything else out there at the moment. If it's mainly well lit shots at least until Nokia tweaks the software it seems we'll see pretty similar performance.
For Sound we have not really seen any measurements of the devices yet but given that Dolby and Beats are on board I believe it should be safe to assume that both devices should at least offer decent quality with optimizations turned off (I tend to believe that's the way to listen to music the way the artists intended because that is why they recorded it that way).
On Support I actually disagree with you - Nokia has been a lot more active when it comes to Firmware Updates and additionally has continuously worked on getting exclusive Apps and other improvements to their phones. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Even if the current Apps don't offer you an advantage yet the next one might - meanwhile we've seen HTC not doing much in that regard.
Weight has been mentioned by some as a criterion to decide between the 8X and the 920 - it might be an issue for you but the additional 20 g over the Titan 1 don't strike me as that big a problem.

For the Camera - it will depend on the situations in which you mainly take photos. For me it is quite often at parties or otherwise in the evenings which IS a situation in which the PureView actually performs better then anything else out there at the moment. If it's mainly well lit shots at least until Nokia tweaks the software it seems we'll see pretty similar performance.
For Sound we have not really seen any measurements of the devices yet but given that Dolby and Beats are on board I believe it should be safe to assume that both devices should at least offer decent quality with optimizations turned off (I tend to believe that's the way to listen to music the way the artists intended because that is why they recorded it that way).
On Support I actually disagree with you - Nokia has been a lot more active when it comes to Firmware Updates and additionally has continuously worked on getting exclusive Apps and other improvements to their phones. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Even if the current Apps don't offer you an advantage yet the next one might - meanwhile we've seen HTC not doing much in that regard.
Weight has been mentioned by some as a criterion to decide between the 8X and the 920 - it might be an issue for you but the additional 20 g over the Titan 1 don't strike me as that big a problem.

On the support side, i was mentioning about the Firmware Update (not necessary apps from the OEM). Do they push that without confirmation/testing from AT&T?
HTC also rolls out like almost monthly firmware and ROM upgrade when i still got my World TITAN, but that does not apply with the AT&T version.
I have the HTC and I love it. I've heard from someone who owned both Nokia and HTC (someone at MS) He said he liked the Nokia as a daily driver because of the bigger screen and said that it had better battery life, but liked to use the HTC whenever he went for a run or something of that nature because of it being so slim and light.
-HTC has a lower screen resolution but a higher PPI
-Nokia has a MUCH nicer main camera IMO, however the wide angle front facing on the HTC is really nice as well.
-HTC told me that the 8X would be just as loud as the Surround that I had before, however I didn't really find this to be true, the built in speakers are definitely good enough though. I haven't done a sound test on a Nokia.
I did get an OTA update already however it was really small 1MB<. Someone from Microsoft was telling me that they will have a program that will allow you to receive updates directly from them (kinda like the Nexus) but I wasn't clear on when that was happening (or if it had already happened)
If I had a choice between the two (The 8X was given to me) I would have gotten the Nokia.

PS: it is just still my main concern about the update progress. I have own both AT&T HTC TITAN and TITAN II and i know AT&T is an a$$hole in pushing the update out for the device. It is a deal-breaker for me as a power user and a dev also.

Well Microsoft did say there would be an "enthusiast program", essentially a way for someone who wants updates as soon as possible, to get them, regardless of carrier/phone. Of course until more details about this program are given, we have no idea if it supports all phones or carriers or what restrictions or what not, but I'm inclined to believe that this program should help solve the "where is my update?" issue.
Otherwise, I still think the Lumia 920 is the better choice overall. They are both great phones, but the Lumia 920 just has more going for it, not to mention Nokia's undying support of Windows Phone and their devices. In the short time they've been with Windows phone, they've impressed me with their support and dedication to the platform, more so than HTC has in the past 10-or-so years.
I'll tell ya how the 920 is when I get it today~

My HTC 8x is att branded but it came unlocked so Im not sure where it will be pulling its updates from.
If build quality is a concern, I dropped my htc last night and the screen cracked. It wasn't a big fall either (was laying in my lap and I got up so it fell). Fortunately for me however Im getting it fixed through HTC for free
Hopefully the enthusiast program will be coming out shortly, I really wished I had asked for a time table when the guy was talking to me about that.

it has been a minus from the 8X for me because i actually saw a review from Engadget today and see the 8X is much more smaller than the TITAN II, much smaller than i thought and i also notice that the bezel on the top of the phone is a lot more than i expected...
Unless i can hand it somewhere for myself, i will have to pass HTC Flagship this wave. The HTC Zenith has been DOA for this wave...

Yeah that's a good idea. Everything is going to be much small than the Titan lol. If it were me I'd go with the Nokia too, so good choice.
I'd pick the lumia 920. Only be wise if you're goma use your camera alot, especially at night, the 920 will win there in low lighting. Plus you get double the storage at a cheaper price point. The weight isn't as bad as people have made it seem and the Nokia screen is better for watching videos on. It is sharper than the Titan2's screen, and you know personally how good that screen is...

Good call. Enjoy the 920. Especially when Nokia releases that software tweak to improve the camera in daylight conditions. I am a big HTC fan and it does take some time to get used to a non HTC WP flagship, but as it stands, the 920 is the most premium mix of tech out for gen 1 WP 8.
I think HTC did the right thing by holding off a big screen WP 8. They need a quad core monster in WP 8 to sell. Hopefully it will come out with the Adreno 320 GPU. That would be a killer device in WP for 2013, especially with a 4.7" screen...

Haha, sure man. I will do a review as i used to do with the TITAN vs the HD7. HTC sure as hell did a right thing with the HTC TITAN (4.7 inch + metal body), they need to keep doing that.
I have been teased from the boys on the Design Department that they are working on some sort of "TITAN III" , although i am not allowed to dig deeper on that. I have been waiting for that but seem it is DOA for the 1st Wave, and i believe the 2nd Wave won't hit until next holiday season, so i think i will bite the bullet and take Nokia for a ride.
Basically, sure the Software on both Device gonna be awesome, the main concern is how the Nokia behave, which i don't have any clue yet. But time will tell.

Cannot wait for that review. I picked up a Titan for repairs for a friend as a favor and just may end up sending him my Focus S instead and keeping the Titan as a spare.... I too am looking to jump on the Lumia bandwagon, but will go with the 810 since I'm in T.Mobile. Rest assurance if HTC puts out a nicely designed quad core 4.7"+ monster with WP8 in Gen 2, I will switch back...

Did they give you a sim card in the box? If they did I'd just have them activate that card and then you just get an adapter to use in any spare phones using regular SIM...

I am on GoPhone service, so i will have to keep my sim... No way to transfer it
So it's time for a new phone for me from the Evo 3D. I keep phones for 2 years and I choose phones based upon specs and what I like (didn't get the 3D for the 3D).
I am asking for the best attempt for non bias opinions for which would be the best phone to own for 2 more years.
I would have gotten the Galaxy S4 if it came with the 8 core but since it comes with a quad core at 1.8Ghz over the HTC One's 1.7 that is no longer and issue. With Kernels and OC I'm sure they will both be very stable at 2Ghz which is plenty fast for a phone.
My biggest concerns are the Camera, the sound, screen quality, size and customization.
Camera:
So far I am loving the HTC One's low light camera. If I want a high MP camera then I will use a camera but most of the time I want to take a picture with my phone and it turns out bad it is in low light. So I like to give the +1 to HTC One on camera plus the Zoe feature seems very nice and useful. I will have to wait to see how the two compare and I hope the Galaxy S4 has some samples after it gets announced.
Sound:
I like the amplified speakers on the HTC One, though It doesn't mean the Galaxy S4 isn't going to sound nice. I havn't heard anything about the speakers on the Galaxy S4 so I need to know more about this one to make a decision on which gets the +1.
Screen Quality:
This is a tough one for me, both are probably spectacular and screen size isn't what chooses the +1 on this one for me. I like the quality of the picture more. If anyone sees some good info on this plz post when it comes available.
Size:
I could never own a phone as big as the Note 2. It just isn't pocket friendly and I don't want anything that big. It's great for those who want to mix a tablet with a phone and size isn't an issue, but for me it has to be pocket friendly and not pocket filling. I havn't seen dimensions of the Galaxy S4 on this so I can't decide until that information comes available so please post when available. But from reviews the HTC One looks like it's a good size in the hands.
Customization:
This one is big since It's very fun to do and worth doing. The battery is an issue for me atm because I wouldn't know what to do when it freezes unless there's a reset button that acts like a battery pull (then it's important to how I get to it. If it requires a pin then I have to think how often will I be able to take a pin out and reset it) . For me I don't have to replace batteries in my phone and technology in batteries is increasing and they should last 2 years unless your eating you battery up 2-3 times a day. Mine has always lasted me the day because when it's low I just limit myself.
The SD card isn't really a problem for me because I only own a 32GB version SD card and I will just use it as a USB if I were to get the HTC One or pop it in the Galaxy S4 if I were to get that one. 32GB is plenty for me as I have an IPod for music and don't need a ton of movies on my phone. One of the things the S4 is big about is the scrolling feature, but I'm not sure that is important to me. I also don't care for the new sense and it's focus being live feeds.
If anyone has any input on the categories please let me know. I usually get phones for my parents when I get one for myself too. So far I am leaning towards the HTC One which is why I came here. I just need to know more before I can decide.

Obviously the best thing to do is wait until the S4 announcement. Read reviews for both phones but don't take them as gospel. Read around for other impressions, watch some videos and if possible see if there are any demo units near you that you can try out.
Otherwise look at both specs and see whats more important for you?
Higher MP camera, removable large battery, MicroSD slot, RGB notification led, 5 inch OLED display? - Go for S4
Better build quality and looks, better low light camera, HTC Sense and Zoe, superior audio output, 4.7 SuperLCD 3 with higher PPI - Go for HTC One.
I have ordered the HTC One, but if the S4 announcement is good and meets what I want then I will definitely be looking to get that.
Yeah you have to wait 2 more days and the s4 will be announced, then you will know the official spec of the s4 which i doubt would be much better than HTC one

Every criticism of the Moto G has to be framed against its ludicrously low price. Had Moto G for about 24 hours now, I am so impressed with this phone. I really want to let everyone know about it I have compared this phone a lot with Samsung S4, not because I hate it, instead it was my last phone and I have used it for months, so have a good idea of what I am on about
Screen
Some may consider the resolution on this phone being too low, compared to the high end flagship phones this is about 100 ppi less. But does this mean the screen is bad? No. In fact, I am loving it more than the AMOLED on Samsung s4. First of all, I am just going to say that above 300ppi I can't tell the difference. To me, 400+ ppi = higher battery drain + requires more CPU + requires more GPU. Just why? Maybe there are some untold benifit of higher ppi screens, but to me I just don't see any advantage what so ever. Apart from the fact you could say to your mate "my phone's ppi is higher than yours...". So this to me is a big thumb up!
Speed
Before we talk about anything else, I want to mention speed of this phone. My S4 was running stock android 4.3 means I should see a massive different when I switch to this phone. But the reality is not the case, it really doesn't appear to be that much of a difference. There may be 1/5 of a speed difference when opening apps, but that is like 0.2 seconds? Even for inpatient person like me, it is more than acceptable. At the end of the day, it make you think what Samsung is doing with their snapdragon 600, when moto g can keep up using a snapdragon 400... This is on stock android, don't even mention touch wiz... But seriously find a review video or go to a shop and see it for yourselves.
Software/ROM
Well not much to say here, it is running basically stock Android 4.3 with a few minor tweaks e.g. camera.
Storage
8gb or 16gb, it is always the question. Previously i'd say get 16gb, more future proof, however I choose 8gb this time. Not because of the 50gb gdrive storage (pointless if you have no internet connection), instead you could get OTG so if you really want to watch films on trips you can do that. Otherwise, 5.5gb is enough for general app installs. For photos, turn on auto google+ photo back up (or dropbox backup whichever fits u better) then delete the photos on your phone once they are uploaded.
Camera
Haven't really tested it, but at least ok from what I can see and don't expect it to match DSLR
Hardware/Ergonomics
+ Curved back, easy to hold. I especially like the dented "M" logo, it gives more grip, helps when I need to touch the top of the screen.
- Phone is a bit heavy, for people like reading lying down for a long time might be a bit of a pain.
+ Back cover is removable, awesome! In fact, there a lot of covers coming out soon.
- Although, back cover is hard to remove and a bit slippery, not so awesome.
+ Volume key & power key on the same side.
- Clean design, coming from HTC and Samsung, I really enjoy this kind of simple design. I don't like the HTC/Samsung logo on the most obvious place on your phone kinda ruins the look of the phone.
+ No physical keyboard (some may consider this to be a minus instead of a plus), I am just glad don't need to worry about menu wearing out over time
- Speaker on the back side of the phone
+ Due to curved back, no speaker sound is actually trapped when you place it on the back
+ Both headphone port and micro-usb port are located middle of top and bottom side of the phone respectively, again just simple and nice to look at
- No 4G connectivity. Not a problem for me, as I don't even get 3G where I live, a lot of people living in cities might find this some what a deal breaker.
- No removable battery
- No expandable storage
Battery Life
All i am going to say is 4.5 hours screen on time, 60% left. :good: I am not convinced the stats is accurate, so testing it right now to see if it is really that good.
Update: second time, 4hours22min screen on time, 8 and half hours on battery, 43% remaining.
FM Radio
I was never a radio fan, always thought it was kinda out-of-date technology. Then I moved to an area where there are hardly any 3g/2g coverage at all on the way to work, karma i guess... You might say just download music from google music/sportify, but I don't change my songs frequent enough and it just gets old. Conclusion: always better to have a phone that has FM radio than a phone that doesn't.
Notification light
It is plain silly to me why some OEM would even consider not include a notification light on their phone. *cough* iphone. *cough* windows phone. It make things so much easier, when all you need to do is glance at it rather than turn on the screen, then turn it off again just to check if your missing anything important. There is no more needs saying, it is just playing annoying without one, so another plus.
Value for money
For most of the people, money is a key factor when buying a new phone. Even if the price is not a burden, you might still get the same feeling as me, thinking it cost quite a lot and make the promise to use it for 2 years or more. Well, with this phone you won't get that. In fact, I brought mine thinking I will use it as a back up phone since no other phone has its spec in its price range. But after I started using it, I couldn't put it down. Now I am not even considering getting nexus 5 which was going to be my main phone.
What I look forward to
Hell this is XDA, obviously I want lots and lots of ROMs XD. But I also can't wait for 4.4 to come out and ART to be stable. I imagine it would make this phone even faster. Saw some comparisons between Dalvik and ART, have to say ART wins hands down especially considering it is still in development stage.
Final thoughts
So happy with this phone, and mostly happy about Motorola stepping up and giving us this product. This is important in the sense, they are fighting a price battle for us, the consumers. We should show some support to let the other OEMs know it is not about how much they spend money on advertising, it is giving us a great product with a reasonable price instead of throw in some latest chips and mark it £599 rubbish which is basically what is happening right now.
Tips
I would recommend everyone get this phone, and get the 8gb version. Since it cost so little, no one could moan at you when you get a new phone next year

+ Curved back, easy to hold. I especially like the dented "M" logo, it gives more grip, helps when I need to touch the top of the screen.
- Phone is a bit heavy, for people like reading lying down might be a bit of a pain.
+ Back cover is removable, awesome! In fact, there a lot of covers coming out soon.
- Although, it is hard to remove and a bit slippery, not so awesome.
+ Volume key & power key on the same side.
- Clean design, coming from HTC and Samsung, I really enjoy this kind of simple design. I don't like the HTC/Samsung logo on the most obvious place on your phone kinda ruins the look of the phone.
+ No physical keyboard (some may consider this to be a minus instead of a plug), don't need to worry about menu wearing out over time
- Speaker on the bottom of the phone
+ Due to curved back, no speaker sound is actually trapped when you place it on the back
+ Both headphone port and micro-usb port are in the middle of top and bottom side of the phone respectively, again just simple but nice to look at
- No 4G connectivity. Not a problem for me, as I don't even get 3G where I live, a lot of people living in cities might find this some what a deal breaker.
- No removable battery
- No expandable storage
Battery Life
All i am going to say is 4.5 hours screen on time, 60% left. :good: I am not convinced by the stats, so testing it right now to see if it is really that good.
FM Radio
I was never a radio fan, always thought it was kinda out-of-date technology. Then I moved to an area where there are hardly any 3g/2g coverage at all on the way to work, karma i guess... You might say just download music from google music/sportify, but I don't change my songs frequent enough and it just gets old. Conclusion: always better to have a phone that has FM radio than a phone that doesn't.
Notification light
It is plain silly to me why some OEM would even consider not include a notification light on their phone. *cough* iphone. *cough* windows phone. Makes thing so much easier, when all you need to do is glance at it rather than turn on the screen, then turn it off again just to check if your missing anything important. There is no more needs saying, it is just playing annoying without one, so another plus.
Value for money
For most of the people, money is a key factor when buying a new phone. Even if the price is not a burden, you might still get the same feeling as me, thinking it cost quite a lot and make the promise to use it for 2 years or more. Well, with this phone you won't get that. In fact, I brought mine thinking I will use it as a back up phone since no other phone has its spec in its price range. But after I started using it, I couldn't put it down. Now I am not even considering getting nexus 5 which was going to be my main phone.
What I look forward to
Hell this is XDA, obviously I want lots and lots of ROMs XD. But I also can't wait for 4.4 to come out and ART to be stable. I imagine it would make this phone even faster. Saw some comparisons between Dalvik and ART, have to say ART wins hands down especially considering it is still in development stage.
Final thoughts
So happy with this phone, and mostly happy about Motorola stepping up and giving us this product. This is important in the sense, they are fighting a price battle for us, the consumers. We should show some support to let the other OEMs know it is not about how much they spend money on advertising, it is giving us a great product with a reasonable price instead of throw in some latest chips and mark it £599 rubbish which is basically what is happening right now. Basically

I would recommend everyone get this phone, and get the 8gb version. Since it cost so little, no one could moan at you when you get a new phone next year

Camera, performanceand other relevent fields.To
me some of the specifications seem similar.
i guess only the experienced users can actually advice
which one to buy.

In trying to figure out how this works because 2000mAh isn't even that big for a 4.5" screen.
For instance my Galaxy Note has a 5.2" screen which is roughly 10% bigger but has a 2500mAh battery which is 20% bigger. At best I've been able to get 5h SOT which is everything low or off, usually I get 3-4 which I consider decent because the nexus 5 gets around 3-5h SOT and has a similar size screen and battery.

The Note had a 5.3" screen.. That makes screen 38% bigger.
Also, the software makes a difference. And maybe the Snapdragon 400 is more efficient than the Exynos used by Samsung
I was going to say, your maths is a bit off there at 10%. You need to look at the area, not the diagonal length.
If you think back to when 4.5" screens where the norm on top end devices, most batteries were less than 1600mAh. The Desire HD for example had about 1300mAh I think.

Let's look at the numbers,
The Galaxy Note has a 1280x800 @5.3 inch screen -> 4.49" × 2.81" = 12.62in²
The Moto G has a 1280x720 @4.5 inch screen -> 3.92" × 2.21" = 8.65in²
-> The Galaxy Note has a screen 45.9% larger than the Moto G
-> The Galaxy Note also features a battery 25% larger than the Moto G
Remember, that the 4.5 and 5.3 numbers are the diagonal size and do not linearly represent relative screen sizes
The Moto G has a better (battery:screen size) ratio than the Galaxy Note.
How have you found the vibration motor on it? - to anyone who has one in hand yet.
The one in my Skate seems to make more noise than movement :laugh:
