IMPORTANT: Screen

So can anyone confirm that the striations or lines on the screen are normal??
Im talking about when you pull down the notifications bar there are light lines that come down vertically and soma cases are horizontal.
Please let me know I got 30 days with it. thanks!

my first nexus s had darker whites than the display model at the store. I would recommend comparing yours with the store display or another persons nexus s, I think this is the best way, since we cant physically see how your phone screen looks. good luck

Are you referring to the gray section where your service provider is listed? Or the very dark area where the notifications are listed?
If I stare I can see some lines in the gray area.
I do see a slight grid pattern in the power control widget.

I don't have a Nexus S, but I have a Galaxy S i9000M which has a similar (if not exactly the same) screen. If I bring up a screen that is a solid colour, I do notice some imperfections like you describe. They are hardly noticeable though.

Weird. My nexus doesn't have that and I would know, I modded my nexus 1 to be pretty much like gingerbread 6 months back, massive burn in.

actually no.... mine doesn't have any lines or defects.
the only lines are the horizontal ones separating the notifications.

I think I know what you mean. My N1 on certain backgrounds has very faint grey lines. Not always visible, even on white web pages

Why would that cause burn in more than anything else?

Yes, I can see it. I can see it on any AMOLED/SAMOLED phone I've ever come in contact with. It's the nature of AMOLED screens unlike most LCD screens. With AMOLED, each pixel is individually powered, and it's impossible to have each pixel (or subpixel) be identical, which leads to slight differences in output and color reproduction. An LCD screen is backlight by either florescent tubes or recently, LEDs, which produce an even backlight (usually) where the colors are controlled by filtering each pixel, rather than having to illuminate each pixel.
Anyway, I only really notice it when the brightness is at the minimum and it's very dark in the place I'm using my phone. If I crank up the brightness or if I'm in a well lit area, I don't notice it at all really. Although if it's VERY obvious, you might have a screen that's significantly lower quality than average... it happens, bad QC or something, exchange it.
Oh, and if you stare at a plasma TV long enough you'll notice the same thing... similar technology, each pixel illuminated individually.

Status bar Image retention / “ burn in ” ?

Just got my HK version of the 16GB Wi-Fi only model last week. So far the 7.7 is pretty darn great. One issue I'm noticing though:
For the first few days I was using the Screen Filter app by haxor industry, so I could comfortable use the tablet at night in bed. The app, however, did not properly dim the status bar containing the navigation buttons & notification tray. I changed my dimming app to ScreenDim, which did the trick.
Now however--when dimming is enabled, and holding the tablet in landscape--- I'm noticing that there is discoloring in the exact area where the portrait-oriented status bar is positioned. The tablet looks fine when I'm working within any of the built-in brightness levels.
Anyone else experiencing anything similar?

Had mine now for just over a week. Have not noticed any burn in so far. Will watch out for it..

Many people claim to have seen the burn in effect of AMOLED. I been using my Galaxy S i9000 close to a year now but I do not notice anything. Maybe is my usage pattern. I don't usually spend more than an hour continuously on the screen. I'll pay more attention to the display unit when I drop by the phone shop next time.

If you are worry, you can try the HideBar apk that hide the status bar, but you need root. I tried it and it's working.

This is likely due to the fact that the notification icons are blue coloured. In OLED displays, blue sub-pixels degrade faster than either red or green due to the fact that they have to be run at higher power levels to produce the same light levels as the red and green.
All OLED screens degrade and suffer burn-in sooner or later; you cannot avoid this.
Personally, I haven't yet experienced the burn-in effect with my unit, but perhaps another solution to delaying this inevitability is to create a modified build.prop which changes the overall blue theme to green instead?
The SAMOLED+ screen on my SGS2 from last May hasn't shown any signs of degradation yet, probably from the green theme of gingerbread.

Just thought I would chime in here. I just recently sold my GS2 which never did what my Galaxy Nexus does. From time to time when I move about through apps or screens I can still see feint remnants from the previous screen. The best example is going from my home screen to the market where my clock widget is still visible for a few seconds. I can turn my screen off and then on or just continue navigating until it disappears. If this is similar to what my Galaxy Nexus does then I believe it's not really an issue at all. (Although I was expecting differently from the Tabs screen since it's a Plus whereas this is not.)

Okay, while I don't have the status bar "burn in" yet, I notice that when using the Screen Filter apps to dim the screen, the lower part of the screen (near the Samsung logo) is dimmer than the rest of the screen no matter when it is view in portrait or landscape. I'm not sure if this is cause by the apps itself or the display panel having unequal brightness. No problem when operating with the device standard lowest brightness.

Yes; this is exactly what I am experiencing. Assuming it's not the dimming applications' doing, I was wondering if Samsung configure the screen like this on purpose...perhaps as a preventative measure thinking the edge by the Samsung logo would have the static image of status bar the majority of the time in daily use.

Yeah Samsung are geniuses. They can produce the screen, but don't know the limitations. You would think they would avoid using blue for cumpulsory static images that you can't turn off. I don't know why they couldn't use red, green, or yellow in that area and avoid any color with blue in it, including white.

Agreed. It is quite an oversight.
Having said that, I haven't yet had any burn-in issues with my unit, even with my screen at full brightness just about all the time.

I found a yellowish mark in the same place of status bar when I hide it or change from portrait position to landscape position .. and I can see it only in gray screen like market or settings. I use my tab only for 1 week . Is it burn in? . Dose it go away by itself when I hide the status bar for a long time?

I think it won't go away. Mine got the same yellowwish on the status bar. Actually I love this phone more than any other devices I used to use before but it actually annoy me with this bug screen.

I was going to sell mine and buy another one.. but now I think I will keep it because this screen bug will be in the most of this device

I must be lucky! I've had my device for almost a month now, run my screen at 100%, and I have yet to experience any issues whatsoever! Odd... Not complaining though!

I'm just wondering is there anyways to fix this bug screen? Is that any firmwares can fix it? I think we should complain to Samsung for this burn screen. It is very annoying :-(

This bug is more visable at low brightness

I have mine for over three weeks now and I've no discoloration in the status bar area and I'm using the Tab a lot.

Not all screens are created equally so others may not have burn-ins over 2yrs while others will get it as early as 2 weeks.
Just have it replaced and hope for a better screen.

How much u pay for replacement? Mine can't cuz here no warrenty :-( so sad

Dead pixel?

I just got my warranty replacement yesterday. Noticed last night in a dark room that there is a small stuck blue pixel in the virtual soft button area, really an eye-sore. My first device had a hole in the backlight that looks like a big spec of dirt, so not as bad as that, but still irritating. I always seem to have the worst luck with ordering electronics (went through 5 sensations going around the warranty system )
Does anybody know of a way that it might be possible to fix this pixel? It's only visible when there is any blue or white on the screen above it. So if I download that pixel fix app and set the background color to blue, that stuck pixel screams, but if I set it to black or gray, it's not visible at all. It's only on if something above it is on. Almost like it's a short in the signal or something. Anybody know of a way to fix it? I've tried the pixel-fix it apps to no avail, albeit I haven't tried for more than 5 minutes.

Pixel fixer apps don't really work, some may report success only because it is an intermittent pixel fault that will just come back or would have fixed itself anyway. If it was as easy as flicking through a serious of colours the manufacturers of LCD panels would do this already as it costs them loads of money in throwing away panels with faulty pixels.
Some pixels will fix with gentle pressure, but often will just come back.
I'm sorry to say the only option is an exchange.

I'm getting a red pixel that shows up randomly. Either by the notification bar or navigation bar. It goes away if I touch the screen. Is this something that could get worse?

You have a faulty pixel that corrects itself sometimes when given a little bit of flexing as would happen when you touch the screen. It is unlikely to spread to other pixels, but one day the pixel may become stuck red permanently or may just fix itself for good.
It isn't uncommon to have pixels like that, although with improvements in manufacturing it's getting rarer. If you think it will annoy you, you have little option but get it exchanged.

Didn't realise you were a mod

Its a strangely behaving pixel too. It only shows if there are a lot of blue sub pixels activated on the screen. Example, if the entire screen is blue, the stuck pixel will scream, but if its red, green, or black on then rest of the screen (dark video or picture or something) the pixel is black. Unlike any stuck pixel I've had before. Only stuck blue if the rest of the screen has blue... And if the pixel is supposed to be showing black. If it's showing white or gray, it'll function properly, but if it's supposed to be black, it'll be blue.

Defective screen?

For some reason now when I ran the screen test on the grey background I see two vertical lines. A light dark one on my left side and a light whitish one on the right side. I never had this before when I got the device. I did lots of searching and research and some people said it disappears by itself ... Can someone confirm this to be true cause I don't really want to RMA. I also notice that the lines get lighter as the phone cools down too.

My Nexus 4 here problem, left side on screen show black/white thin line 3-4cm.

Update*
Okay so the darker line went away after my device was cooler and idle for a couple of hours but it comes back once the phone is heated slightly. Does anyone know if its the glue adhesive or just a defect?

Dead Pixel?

Can anyone if this is a dead pixel or not. Its weird one day it wasn't there and the next day it was. If this is a dead pixel will Samsung covered under warranty? It's kind of hard to tell from the picture but it's approximately one-sixteenth of an inch long is that too big for a dead pixel or multiple dead pixels in a row or is it something else?
Its right above my SMS/ Message icon. It always stays in same location, no matter what I'm doing in background. Its white, with a little red, green and blue.
How would this have even happened?

That looks wicked. I slammed my keys unto my phone for whatever stupid reason and it cracked on me fortunately is not bad. Or so I thought I have a pink line that runs across from top to bottom. It'll go away if I tap the area where my camera is. Not even where it is cracked. My next phone. ZTE AXON 7
