on my cwm, i tried backing up my NAND ROM and it ended up creating a 3 GB backup including sd-ext. any way i can tell it to back my NAND ROM only? Searched around, to no avail.
Also, gapps package with aroma to install to sd-ext would b sweet. seems many of us want it!
cheers
You mean you have NativeSD roms that you don't want backed up?
I think there's an option in CWM to 'advanced backup' or something like that, which allows you to backup only certain partitions. There's certainly an advanced restore feature, so I don't see why there wouldn't be the same with backups.

There isn't a advanced backup in the CWM versions we have (last time I checked), but there is in TWRP (and 4ext I think)

So, if I have a ROM (CMYLXGO's Stock Desire) w/ 425 MB system partition and I back it up with CWM , then install another ROM with 150MB system partition (installing the 150MB partition prior to install of course), do I need to repartition back to the 425MB prior to restoring the 425MB partitioned backup?
Common sense would tell me yes, BUT, I figured I would ask just in case I am wrong!

Yes, you definitely need to re-partition.
Thank you - thats just what I needed to know!

glad I could help....
What will be the problem if i dont perform repartition?
I had been wondering if a nandroid backup would restore old partition sizes, since it backs up everything, but yeah i guess it makes sense that it can't change the size of the recovery partition, since that's what cwm is running from at the time of backup/restore. But does nandroid restore system and cache partition sizes?

No, the restore just loads the partition contents into the partition, it doesn't adjust the sizes, or recreate them,, just loads the backed up contents into it.
Is there a way to retain applications between trying different ROMS. I am sure there are ways where I don't have to install all applications all over again.
Thanks.
Use Titanium Backup.
If the ROMs you try are similar and differ just by version number, then you can skip formatting your ext3 partition on your sd card (if you use app2sd, etc.)

Using CWM is the best as backup & restore is quite easy...IMO Titanium messes ROMs alot if not used correctly...Just backup using CWM, Flash new ROM, get back to CWM and choose advanced restore > Data only...
Hi,
I want to install this rom over a old one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010498
How do I back up the old one and install this one?
And save all the info like Whatsapp, Facebook, Msn messenger data?
For me the best solution is Titanium Backup. Always does its job

It depends on what type of backup you want. Do you want to restore the apps onto new rom?
You can boot into clockworkmod and do a nandroid backup. This would backup entire nand. You would just simply then flash same nand partition and restore rom back when needed.
If you simply want to backups your apps/app data then you can either do the nand backup and then use appextractor to restore apps from the backup to new rom or you can use Titanium Backup to backup/restore all your apps/app data.

Really?! I've done this before and all worked fine, but I always use Titanium Backup as a failsafe method.

You are probably using a buggy version of CWM and it isn't backing up your app data from sd-ext maybe.
Or he's only choosing to restore sd-ext and not data too.

Thanks for your reply everyone. The issue is I am in the process of changing my sd card as I currently have a 1gb card. And most roms recommend at least 2 gb or more.
Yes indeed I do want to copy all apps/memory into new rom if possible?
every time civato update his rom a have to do all this procedure : -wipe all , factory reset , format and flexrom and if I update from FLEXREAPER R14 to FLEXREAPER RF1 i going to lose all my data??? (sorry for my bad english)
Use a backup program for your apps and backup to external sd card, backup downloaded data to external sd card.
Keeps all your data safe and intact.....easy peasy.

I use titanium backup
Why aren't you doing a Nandroid backup? That's by far the most convenient way to restore user data including all setup and homescreen settings. This is also the method Civato is recommending.
Such a nandroid backup is a backup performed with your recovery. Just do first a full backup, then do a full wipe and flash the ROM. After doing the start-up installations (wifi, google account), you are booting again into recovery. Then you are doing an advanced restore selecting user data (/data) only to be restored (resoring system and others would replace the new ROM by the old one). Then you get back all your apps and settings.
With best regards, maris

Thanks that's what I was looking
Hi everyone.
I just moved from NAND to NativeSD version Android to taste the benefit from EXT4. But setting up a new system, setting up all email accounts will take a very long time. I am thinking if i can use the 4EXT recovery to restore the old NAND backups. I tried once, but 'failed to find cached' appeared on the screen and the restore procedure stopped.
any help?
*Did a quick search but did not find the answer.
It seems like all you require is the data partition to be restored. While I'm not sure how this can be done to NativeSD with 4EXT, but you could manually copy the data to the EXT partition. This may be a lot of work, but I'll assume it's a one time only migration
Still looking for a better solution myself!
