Well my friend yesterday received his razr Hd and I was really excited to see what that device has to offer.
I went to my friend's house, used it and then found out that it is the same product as Atrix Hd except that this phone just has a bigger battery and nothing else.
It was a let off for me, I compared it to my razr I and believe me Razr I smoked this phone .
If you don't believe me then walk into a store and compare it head to head against the razr I
well, neither of those are on Verizon, so its a mute point for 95% of this board
I honestly dont believe you. Ive messed with the original razr and this phone beats it in every aspect. Way faster in my opinion and better battery life. I really dont have a single complaint with this phone and im a pretty heavy user.

What an absolute ridiculous fail of a post.
The RAZR HD has the following advantages over the Atrix HD:
Larger screen
Amoled screen
Bigger battery
NFC
Aluminum unibody frame
Kevlar back
Better camera
Same phone right? Also your comparison of the ancient cpu in the original razr vs the s4 in the new razr is almost equally as laughable. Please don't post in this thread again until you actually own a razr Hd. And even then I don't know...
He was talking about the RAZR I not the original RAZR. The RAZR I is an Intel Medfield GSM version of the RAZR M. Not available in the US I don't think.
Not sure why they (XDA) insist on combining forums for different (CDMA/GSM) versions of phones but that's why we have confusion like this...

Amen, I have used the sh!t out of this phone already and it's a beast. Hasn't failed me yet in what I'd consider extremely heavy use (so heavy I have used up near 70GB of data this month doing many different things putting it to what I would consider for me the ultimate test... streaming, downloading, wireless tethering, gaming, apps, music, movies - praise the lord for unlimited data). Not to mention the build, battery life, call quality, volumes, usb flash drive hookup, HDMI cable hook up, and radios giving excellent 4G signal coverage.
People who trash this phone either 1) don't know what they're talking about, or 2) just aren't a fan of it from the start and go into it with a biased opinion.
LoL What?!
The "I" is essentially a RAZR M with the ARM processor swapped for an intel atom. Intel still has a long ways to go to run as efficiently as the arm architecture.
That being said: Smaller battery, smaller screen, lower rez and PPI, less memory, many apps not compatible from google play. How in any way, shape, or form can you say the I "smokes" the RAZR HD? Sounds more like jealousy that you can't get the HD or HD MAXX locally because noone in their right mind that knows absolutely anything about phones would ever compare these. You may as well be a iPhone fanatic saying it's far superior due to the "experience".

The RAZR i (which I own) has been shown to have better battery than the RAZR M by most reviewers. The Intel CPU is at least as fast though not quite as good for 3D gaming. I have yet to find an app that doesn't work, though I have only tried about 50 or so. Just to give you an idea, I regularly get 50 hours of battery life with 4 hours screen time. The form factor of the i is simply astonishing, it is so small for the size of screen, but I have not held an HD so cannot compare.
The screen on the HD is obviously going to be significantly better. I wonder if the camera is better too - not sure if it can be worse! I really want an HD, mainly for the screen, but giving up the i will be tough. Best phone I have personally used.
People y u no read everything clearly and properly?

And when u say it has this advantage and that advantage over the Atrix Hd, i know what u r trying to say, The razr Hd is better in terms of display, camera and battery but the performance of both these phones are same in terms of cpu and gpu.
On the other hand compare the razr Hd to the razr I , razr hd wins only display against the razr I, otherwise razr I is currently the fastest motorola.

The only place the atom processor shines is browser navigation. If you only opened a browser window and compared the two the atom will feel snappy. Also your coverage is going to make a difference.
The 2ghz means nothing as 1. That's the max speed and Intel won't say where the CPU usually sits. 2. Clock for clock arm CPUs are well ahead of x86 architecture.
The big drawback is compatibility. Many play store apps simply won't run on an atom processor. Devs are working on this but I'd bet they're focusing on HD versions of apps first to take advantage of the influx of HD tablets before the trickle of atom powered devices.
Personally i like Intel but in the mobile arena it's been a sputtering start. I like the form of the M and I but the screens are just too ancient tech.

I am seriously considering the Droid RAZR HD. My main question is about the RAM. Is 1gb going to be enough for the phone to perform well over the next 20 months? I'm worried this will be a major hindrance. I love everything about this phone except its already a generation behind...no S4 pro and no 2 gb RAM.
That is the main reason I'd consider the note 2 or gs3.
I have had Windows Phone for a while now due to bad android experiences at first, so I want to avoid slowness, lags, etc. I'm giving Android one more chance.

The likelihood is that there won't be a manufacturer supported update past Jelly Bean for the RAZR HD given past history. Any of the ROMs out there are optimized so will work fine - think of CM10 running on devices with only 512MB of RAM. It's certainly doable. The average phone is still coming with 1GB or less these days. Only the newest gen phones are coming with 2GB.
Honestly though, the camera on this thing is such a POS that I've got my name down for a DROID DNA at my store, which will be in before my first two weeks with the RAZR HD are up and will be a no-cost transfer.
The DNA storage is what turned me off to it... I don't understand why they are still designing phones like that.

It was the tiny, inexcusably small battery that turned me off to it. Storage ran a close second though. I need at LEAST 32GB of storage, 16GB doesn't cut it. Storage was the biggest reason I was turned off to the Nexus 4 and wasn't willing to sacrifice my unlimited Verizon data contract. Though, if LG/Google eventually make a 32GB N4, and resolve those overheating problems in the SoC, I'll give it another look in a few months.
Edit - I should say I that I bought a Razr HD Maxx myself for the battery life. My previous phone, a Galaxy Nexus, would get ~6hrs of light-moderage use when on mobile data. I'd unplug it in the morning, and have to juice it up before I left work. :/ The radios in the Moto also put the GNex to complete shame. My main office saw the Gnex test at 4-6MBs down, the Moto pulls 10-13MB in the same area. At one of our Co-Lo facilities, the Gnex would pull a speck of 3G. The Moto not only gets an LTE signal, it pulls ~9MBs down. Thats impressive.

This is my concern as well. I'm of course picking up the RAZR HD or RAZR MAXX HD on Friday. I think it might be sufficient enough especially if you're going to root and we eventually get cm10 on this device which should be marvelous. Phonedog FINALLY did his RAZR HD vs S3 video. Quadrant scores showed the HD beating the S3 and its not even on Jelly Bean yet. Awesome build, good radios, great battery life, and a close to stock android look, what more can we really ask for at the moment. I just fear getting left in the dust again when it comes to updates, I'm on the Droid X2 which a.) is old and stuck on the much retired gingerbread b.) I didn't even get a taste of android 4.0
Of course 2gb is better than 1. But for me it wasn't just about technical specs. I liked the build quality of the Razr, and I really dislike that big home button on the S3. 1gb is fairly standard, and it will be awhile before apps need that much. 1gb is also plenty for 4.1 and 4.2 (if it ever gets it). I really wanted the Nexus 4, but I am stuck on Verizon. The Razr gives me the closest thing to a Google experience.
Good luck. There are several really good devices out there.
Get the razr HD... the DNA is a joke..crappy battery with a quad core and bigger screen...that makes sense
Ram won't be a issue for the OS 1 gig is plenty for the next two years
Not to mention if u like good reception u won't find Better radios than moto..period end of story

To the OP... Keeping in mind you're in a RAZR HD thread area, take all of this with a grain of salt. I'm sure if you post in the DNA forum they'll tell you you're crazy for "taking a step backwards" with the RHD. Same in a GSIII forum thread. You'll have to make the final decision for yourself, with the info you get from everywhere.
Now that being said, I wholeheartedly am in favor of the RHD over the other devices, for many of the reasons already mentioned above.
- (objective) build quality is second-to-none with Kevlar, Gorilla Glass, and aluminum bezel. Sorry, I don't like Samsung's "playskool"-built phones. I perfer a durable, adult toy.
- (objective) the battery's a monster. It's been documented enough, no need to elaborate further.
- (subjective) I prefer the styling of my RMaxxHD to any of the other phones - black, nice curves, feels good in the hand...
- (objective) storage is far superior, and when you do things like download a TON of apps, music, videos, full-length movies, pics, etc., the more memory you have the better. Also keep in mind that 8/16/32GB is NOT the formatted memory; you actually get less to play with formatted, and the ROM, whether stock or not, will take up a good chunk as well.
- (objective/subjective) the camera is not as good, though I hear 4.1 JB should fix some of the problems? I don't take a ton of pics so I don't care about the camera.
- (fact - as of the timing of this posting) speaking of updates, these phones are slated to get the 4.2 JB update, though it's scheduled for 4Q2013 and we haven't even received the 4.1 JB yet... I do think we'll eventually get the 4.2 JB update, considering there is still support for the Droid 4 (which seems like an abacus these days it's so old, technologically speaking) and it's scheduled to get 4.1. No one knows for sure until it happens though.
- (objective/subjective) though 1GB RAM is much less than 2GB RAM, I haven't found myself saying "self, I wish I had more RAM in this phone..." My laptop uses 1GB RAM still (yeah, it's a bit of a dinosaur) and it still muscles through every task like a champ. And believe me, I put it to work. 1GB should be plenty for your needs.
- (objective/subjective) the screens are roughly the same size (4.7, 4.8, 5.0) and have roughly the same quality. The RHD is considered the "worst" of the three, but I dare ANYONE to look at the three screens and really honestly tell me you see a difference. I've stared at the GSIII and RHD screens, they look identical to me. 318ppi (pixels per inch) vs. 313ppi... yeah, you're gonna see that difference, right. Stop lying. On just the RHD screen itself, it's light years ahead of previous screens I've had on phones. I still tell people how vibrant it looks.
- (objective) the radios are as equally superior as the build quality. I would bet money I could get a signal on the moon (ok, maybe that's an exaggeration, but I haven't found anywhere that I haven't had a 4G signal, including places I barely got a 3G signal on my Ally and Incredible).
Good luck with your decision. And good luck with your buyer's remorse if you choose anything other than the RAZR HD/Maxx
I refuse to fall for HTC again. I have had nothing but bad luck with all of their phones.
I also refuse to put a case on my phone..it makes it too thick. I drop my phones a lot and none have ever broken, I feel like Samsung phones break easily.
I am just nervous about Android buut hopefully it has matured to where not everything lags...and hopefully apps no longer look like they came from Windows 95. I think I'll go for the razor... wish me luck!

Hello,
I currently own an HTC DNA and I have a buddy that wants to trade me his maxx. I was wondering if it was worth it? the reason why I am posting this here is because I want to know the ups and down about this phone.
I know that the DNA has better specs but software sucks and battery is average. I would love to have a huge battery like the Maxx but does the phone lag at all? I know that it only has 1 gig of ram but does it bog down the phone a lot?
I am not starting a flame war, I just need honest opinions from Maxx owners.
Thanks.
Its an awesome phone, I love my maxx hd

I've messed around with it at Verizon but just bought one off of Ebay....ill post more when i have more time to play around with it
Well that's good to know....so the phone is smooth and doesn't bog down because of the ram?

I have an regular HD. But to give you some perspective. My average usage battery cycle is 22 hours. Before I need to reach for a charger. If you play games it goes down to about 6 hours of gaming. From my experience.
The stock launcher has some minute lag. I have Nova and its buttery smooth. Overall its a fast phone, and sense bogs down the DNA's CPU. But that being said this phone does have those small derpy moments, but to be honest the battery life is more important than screen or performance, for me at least. Especially since the lag is far and few between.

Don't forget its a Snapdragon 1.5GHz dual core, it does beat some quad cores out there. I have the razr HD, and this phone has never lagged on me yet. I do play games on my phone a lot. I do, because even like that, my phone lasts the whole day! 1gb ram is still a lot, I find it hard to use the whole gig at a time.

The kevlar and solid build quality alone was enough for me to ditch my Nexus 4 for the Razr HD.
I am not sure what camera is in the MAXX version, but this is probably the only let down - I would say the HTC is much better than the Moto.
I also use an aftermarket Jellybean 4.1 launcher instead of the stock Moto one, and it makes the phone buttery smooth. I get about 2 days of battery even on the HD with moderate use.
Yeah the HTC has a snapdragon s4 pro which is better than the moto one.
I like the answers here.

Sounds like your larger concerns are the RAM and processor. If that's the case, stick with the DNA. I remember playing with it in the store, the screen was the best I had seen. I went with the Maxx HD because my biggest complaint has always been battery life, and because of the larger memory and SD card slot. The quad core, RAM, and camera weren't as important to me, especially since I upgrade about every year (by paying Ebay prices when I don't have an upgrade available). I figure this phone will be great for me for at least the next year.
I recently had the choice to buy a Razr HD (not Maxx) or the DNA. I have the HD.
I don't care how fast the processor is. The non-removable storage is a deal killer for me.
That and coming from a Razr Maxx, the HD style had me hooked.
I'm lasting easily one full day away from the charger.
Today I'm at 82% after 7 hours off the charger. My regular Maxx was nowhere near this good.
Well I mean the ram and processor are not my biggest concern. The thing is that I am one of those people that always needs the best Lol and I am talking about hardware not functionality. The RAZR will be more useful to me. I like the DNA because it is slim and I love the display but on the other hand sense sucks.

no point having the best in this case if u can't fully utilize it. Although less ram and smaller screen, it sounds like the RAZR specs will still far exceed what u need it for, probably surfing, texting, social media, phone calls. And its battery will let u do that much longer than the DNA.
if u played games or such i would say different, but ultimately the choice is yours of course

which one is beter for me ?
atrix hd or razr m or even razr i
my important is :
battery life - screen - camera -
thx so much for your answer
By "screen", you mean the bigger the better, or manageable and pocketable with good pixel density?
If it's the first, definitely RAZR HD: big screen, big battery (especially the maxx).
If the second, then RAZR M: just the right size so it can be used with one hand, without giant hands, and it fits must pockets.
Not sure about the camera, they're decent, but if that's your top priority you should be looking elsewhere I guess...

Battery wise, RAZR M all day. If you want a pretty screen, Atrix HD, at the expense of some battery life.
Judging by your priorities, go for the M.

Oops, I have NO CLUE why I misread RAZR HD instead of Atrix HD... But yeah, same considerations for screen and camera, but battery on RAZR M is actually better than Atrix HD.
So, yeah, as skippid said, unless you really need the bigger screen and higher resolution, go for the RAZR M. Or save up and get the RAZR HD

I currently have a rooted verizon galaxy nexus lte and i am eledgible for an upgrade and have narrowed my choices down to the razr hd and dna so id like to know some pro about the Droid RAZR HD and how is the verizon signal because the nexus can barely hold on to a 4G signal so can this phone hold on to Verizo 4G signal well?

I just recently went from the galaxy nexus to the RAZR maxx HD and wow night and day difference between signal reliability. I've never even seen the 3g signal icon on my phone until I was messing with it and put it in CDMA only mode. And because the maxx version has a massive battery I can go 2.5-3 days on a single charge with 5-6 hours of on screen time.
Best phone I've purchased so far as signal strength and battery life goes.

Yeaup..definitely go for a RAZR HD,if you want strong battery, strong signal, stronger quality and at the same time have the same look and feel of stock android since your coming from a nexus then definently go for a RAZR HD. Nothing the droid DNA has that can out shine the RAZR HD besides a quadcore and 1080p resolution which you can barely even tell the difference from a dualcore and 720p resolution
Glad to see this thread, because I"m in the same boat...but I've never had any trouble "holding on to an LTE signal" on my GNex. The battery in the MAXX HD makes me giddy like a schoolgirl. 1080p on the DNA is hot, though.
I had the DNA for almost two weeks before i returned it for the Razr MAxx HD.
why did i return it? the DNA battery was crap, would barely last a work day. the screen looked nice, but the phone itself was slightly uncomfortably large. lots of incompatible apps/games due to new resolution (this will all be fixed eventually).
i love the maxx hd because of the battery life. i regularly get 2.5-3 days before i have to charge.

Not to mention the DNA only has 11g of usable storage, nonexpandable. Pretty much a deal breaker for me.

Non removable storage is a deal breaker for me also.
Razr Hd or Razr Maxx HD.
I had a regular Razr Maxx but traded for a Razr HD. IMHO the Razr HD is better than the OG Razr Maxx.
I Had the DNA as my upgrade, I was torn between Razr HD and DNA
I chose the DNA because it was more "future proof" with a 1080p display and quad core
well I only owned it 2 days, because the battery didnt last very well for me and also the gorilla glass has tons of little scratches on it (im VERY careful with my phones...so I decided to get Razr HD and pay the $35 restocking fee.
now I will say it takes about 2 days for your battery to be "trained" so until that 2 days or so of charging cycles, the battery isnt the best, but after your battery is "trained" it can easily last 14 hours with decent use
but performance wise, the DNA wins hands down.
all im going to say about that is the quad core coupled with the 2GB of ram is amazing
and HTC sense (not my fav either) isnt laggy or slow with it, its pretty much project butter at its best
and I have noticed with the Razr HD some lag in the app drawer, but besides that its a great device.
Now my final answer is this:
google owns motorola, so I would think this phone will get android 4.2 and maybe the next version or 2 of android
the DNA is an HTC phone, and as much as I loved HTC...I am a owner of the T-bolt and I can say updates are almost non-existant so only expect to get android 4.2 by end of 2013
TO SUM IT UP
Droid DNA if your a performance person, and near a charger all the time
Droid RAZR HD if you want a "stock-nexus" feel with UI and pretty good battery life and hopefully updates for the next 2 years
Yeah go with the Razr its the bomb. I have yet to see 3g also.
If you want to make phone calls in places you never dreamed possible and have reliable data connections then go with the RAZR HD. The signal strength and quality is quite literally unparalleled. Its a phone first and then a (damn good!) Smartphone second. I forgot how much I appreciated that since most other smartphones suck at being phones.
I have owned and used both phones., coming from a Droid RAZR
The benefits of the Droid DNA are the high revolution 1080p screen, and quad core processor. However, the battery life was unacceptably short (would not last a full work day with several hours of use). The device is also uncomfortably large in your pocket.
I ultimately purchased a Droid RAZR HD Maxx. The 720p screen and faster dual-core processor are still a very noticeable upgrade from my previous phone. The build quality of Motorola phones is great, and the battery life is untouchable (I can go 2 full days of heavy data, GPS, and video use on one battery charge).

Thank you.
I have the maxx but the camera is horrid. I keep checking the back to see if the plastic is off the camera. Anyone play with both phones? Is the g2 UI at least bearable and how do the battery usage compare?

Haven't make a purchase but I am also stuck deciding between the 2. What is important to me is root access and tethering, camera less so. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems from reading the Ultra/Maxx forums that root could permanently disappear with the next OTA. Or I could get the Maxx developer edition, probably have permanent root (am I wrong here also) and perpetuate my unlimited data plan.
Just seems like there is a lot more developer activity happening for the G2. Also battery life appears comparable to the Maxx.

FYI Hashcode just released safestrap for MotoX (and so very likely the Maxx). Should be able to use that to grab updates/updated roms.
I own both phones and the G2 is better then the Maxx in every aspect. Hardware (processor, audio chip set, screen, ir blaster), UI customization, camera, development, except for build quality. The Maxx has Kevlar backing and a louder speaker vs shiny plastic and I think mono speaker. You could say better battery and radio but honestly it's about same strangely.

I personally base my decision off the software of each phone. I had an s4 and while it was good I enjoy my Maxx leaps and bounds more than I did my s4. The s4 and g2 are different but they are both skinned versions of Android where the Maxx is mostly stock. Also the active notifications and the touchless control are features I've actually used in the short time I've had it, yet I never used the s4's features. Finally, my maxx has yet to lag at all due to the fact that stock android runs smoother than most skinned versions. Just my 2 cents
I really wish that people would relax about the specs of phones these days. The quad cores are so freaking overkill on a phone it's silly. The Maxx is totally optimized as a phone and runs as smoothly as ant phone on the market. And if you're counting cores, the maxx has 8. By my count, that's double the G2. The 1080 vs 720 screen? Are you kidding me? It's a 5 inch screen! The human eye cant tell, people. it's a joke!
The maxx is a better phone. It's bare-bones android and has some incredibly cool, useful stuff. Knock on? big woop. give me touchless control and active notifications over that.
It's pissing in the wind, I know. But all this spec war nonsense is nothing but that. Nonsense.

Thank you for this. It's refreshing to see someone else with a bit of sense. While I will say the G2 has a nice camera, everything else about it seems cheap to me. I hate shiney plastic. Another reason I sold my S4, Note 2, S3 and the other phones I've used in the past several months.
I love Motorola's build quality. Even the One has had some quality control issues (seams not lining up).
Anyway, still befuddled as to why people praise other devices and how much better they are in a Droid forum.... Opinions are fine, but at least put some facts in or anything more than "it's just better" because I said so.

if its about the camera quality..then I would say G2 is better than Maxxx....but if it is Motorola vs LG then I will say Motorola is far much better than LG...because the build of Motorola is very much impressive as comparable to LG
Being that I finally got my maxx and have played with the G2 bunch of times.. We have a g2 on display at our store now.. I would choose the maxx.. Besides the camera which is getting fixed with a software update its a great phone.. I can't really find anything wrong with it to complain about

Not a complaint..Just a preference for me, the charge port at the top, like the RAZR Maxx is..I have the prop stand on my cases, same as I had with the RAZR's..but cannot charge while propped in portrait position..but, I will adapt..lol..and a storage slot would be nice, to store SafeStrap backups and so on..but all else, adore these devices..

The x8 processor is not CPU cores. The maxx is a dual core.

The maxx has a total of 6 cores. 2 for the cpu and 4 for the gpu. And IMHO, that droid maxx is perfect except for the terrible camera software (which is fixed with a 3rd party camera app like camera360 ultimate), the lack of external storage, and the inability to remove the battery. I LOVE the minimalistic version of android! This phone NEVER lags! <3

Not to be pedantic, but:
4 graphics processor cores
2 application processor cores (CPU)
2 low-power cores

1) Every Adreno 320 has x4 cores(Nexus 4, HTC one, S4 US ver), Moto is the only one that places any emphasis on this
2) The LP contextual core and natural whatever shouldn't even be considered as cores. Why? Because every little thing would be counted into the core total. Let's take the S600 SoC for instance. It has the 320(x4 core), x4 CPU, and an audio DSP(x1), does this mean it's a 9-core system?
Moto's interpretation of cores is misleading and is a marketing scheme.

Without any real standard as to what constitutes a "core" in the mobile space, as opposed to the PC world, I think it's important now that companies are starting to be "creative" with their marketing that we specifically call out what they are saying are cores, lest we be taken by surprise.

No, we know what cores are. They are CPU cores. The rest is just marketing gobledy-gook.
The iPhone 5s has two cores. It runs circles around a 4 core Samsung phone. Ignore the core BS.

From what I know the cores have a universal meaning, so it's unnecessary change it for mobile devices.
