Hey guys! I recently got my Nexus 7, which I just un-locked the bootloader, and rooted it using mskip's toolkit. Now it's asking to update to 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.... Is it safe to up date without loosing my root and re-locking the bootloader or am I stuck with my current android jelly bean?

The permissions on the su binary may be affected but the bootloader won't be locked. You can always root the device again.
use otarootkeeper app and you will be fine

Excellent! Upgraded and it didn't lock my boot-loader. Neither did I lose my root:good:. The recovery mod mentioned the su binary but it fixed it no problem. Quick question tho, how do I check to see if I still have my root? I checked using my Sixaxis app to see if it still worked and it did. ^_^

The easiest way, IMO, is to try to use su in a terminal emulator.

I have unlocked and rooted my Nexus 7 and it is also running the Motley kernel. When new updates come out for the Nexus 7 how would I go about updating without loosing my data?
Simplest method,
1. Backup ur data
2. download the latest update from Google.
3. Flash it and root it via toolkit or fastboot.
4. Restore data.
Its just like flashing new rom clan and efficient.

But wouldn't updating to say 4.3 on a 4.2 kernel mess up the Nexus?

No, he's saying you don't even need to do that. The update will replace everything.

Today I rooted my nexus 7 using wugs toolkit and I found cast option under display. Is it working or did it just show up due to some modified img or did I forgot to notice in stock 4.4.2?

Thanks. Actually after OTA update my usb storage connection was again set to MTP due to which it was not being detected using Nexus Root Toolkit. Once I changed it to Camera and enabled usb debugging, My device was detected and NRT did its job. I just need root for adblocking (specially in Youtube) and for an app "Mouse&key 2 Touch Gaming". So not looking for custom recovery or rom.
Anyone know if Towelroot will work on this update?

What do you want to do exactly?
So it's the beginning of December and I still got no update for my stock Nexus 7. Shouldn't there be any? I rooted my device with towelroot. Is this the problem?
Thanks for your help.

Is it a 3g version ? You can install from the images ( developers.google.com/android/nexus/images ) with fastboot but you'll need to wipe your device.
No, 100% pure WiFi.
No OTA for me too, just download the factory image here:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Same here, my 2012 Nexus 7 (wifi) still didn't receive the OTA update
