Hi,
*** PLEASE READ THIS THRU CAREFULLY BEFORE RESPONDING ***
I apologize. I am not trying to be rude. But I'm sure that we will all agree that it is simply wasting time and energy, when people do not read something thru and just paste in fixes that have already been stated as not working (below), or asking questions that have already been answered (below).
Anyway folks.....
I have read the various threads that I could find on this, but none of the problems are exactly like mine and none of the fixes helped me, so I thought I would try in a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 area. I hope I haven't violated any rules.
I have a 32GB Samsung Galaxy WiFi 10.1" P7510 Tablet and at least 8GB of free speace.
I am running the Factory ICS v4.0.4 ROM Rooted, with the A1 OverClocking Kernel & CWM added to it.
What's happening is the following:
Apps in Google Play will install fine. Updates also work.
Apps from Amazon App Store/Market will no longer update, nor "Reinstall".
Apps that I have downloaded from web sites (Apk files) will not install.
If I try to install one of the second and third options, I do get the box that pops up and it shows both the "Install", and "Cancel" buttons.
But if I tap "Install", nothing happens. No error messages, nothing. The button doesn't even visually indent like it normally would when you tap a button on your Android device.
I have tried uninstalling apps, to see if it was messing up on the amount of free space, but that didn't help.
I tried clearing the Cache and Data in both the Amazon and Google Stiores/Markets, but that didn't help.
I tried uninstalling one of my apps from the Amazon Market, to reinstall it, because it wouldn't update, but now it won't even install again!
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!!

Maybe an over-kill question, but have you allowed 'Unknown Sources' to be enabled? If so, then this is a stumper indeed. Your story looks so much like that -should- be the issue... Good luck if that is not the issue...

That is a good question, but yes, I do have it enabled. I even tried enabling and disabling the "Debug" setting just in case it would make a difference.
Thanks anyway.

I installed G-Alarm (latest version) and it kept crashing randomly (although the program worked and saved settings). I got tired of it crashing so I uninstalled it from my phone and installed an older version 1.5.1, it went through the install fine and asked me to save settings and reboot, upon rebooting the phone I'm greeted with the dreaded "Your device cannot boot so press volume up and it will erase all your information".
Ugh, WTF. How can uninstalling an application from my phone cause it to not boot?
I can't believe the lack of responses people get in their threads on this forum.

Do not complain
Have patience, as everybody has a life out there!
I would try another version of the app, if not re flash another ROM and try installing.

Lol, and the only reply I got was an off-topic one from someone telling me not to complain because other people have lives. I guess I'm used to forums that reply because they have answers to the questions.
I'll just browse this forum instead of asking questions, because it seems like many users don't get replied and that is including me.
so I'll just be the general user and download roms and stfu.
It'll work
Your question "Ugh, WTF. How can uninstalling an application from my phone cause it to not boot?" is a legitimate rhetorical one. It's not suppose to happen, but sometimes it does. It happened to me when I tried to uninstall a particular build of Opera Mobile 9.7 recently. Nobody can explain it. That's why you're not getting a response.
And you're sure you've provided all the information needed for us to answer your question
You did not mention anything, not the ROM you are using, no other programs, if .NET is installed and so on.
I simply can tell you that I never had such a problem with GAlarm as long as I am using it (must be a year now).
Hi,
After downloading few free applications in my hero, some pictures and ads started popping out every few seconds in my screen. Mostly pictures of the Android depiction doing some stuff like eating or visiting places like Paris and stuff. Also, some advertisement to download videos.
How can I stop this from happening? Is there a virus scanner or a spam blocker I can use?
Please help.

Can't you just go into market and uninstall the apps you added?
Failing that, connect via adb and use adb shell to remove the apk files (presuming you're rooted).
If you aren't rooted or don't know about adb, ask or search. There are antivirus things available, but I'd just remove the apps.
Also, if you find the offending app, post its name here so others can avoid it (only if you find out which one).

Thank you for your reply.
Well, I was not sure which program installed this thing in my phone, so I un-installed all software that I downloaded. However, that did not resolve the issue. I still have the same problem.
Any advice?
Thank you..

Backup your contacts and other important media and factory reset the device maybe?
Thats a bit of a worry this! Not to scare you or anything, but that sounds like some form of virus/hijacking/trojan or something!
Why not install a "task killers" application and see if you can kill a particular process that is showing those ads.
If you find the right one, it might give you some indication what application created it - but do let us know if you do find out!
Or you can just write down the list of installed apps on your Hero here and then someone can take a look at the list?
Thank you guys. I found the problem, and it was due to the installation of a scientific calculator from the free market. Once I removed it, things went back to normal.
many thanks.
Do you fancy naming and shaming the app? Then no-one else will have to go through this again. Oh, and make sure you give it 1* and a negative comment on the market.
Perhaps we need an 'apps wall of shame' for any apps that do things such as this... Then we could look up any apps before downloading if they looked suspicious.

You might give us the name of the app so that others can get a chance to stay away from it?
I find the AdFree app invaluable in the fight againt annoying ads in other apps.

If you can't get the host file to download 1st time click Revert and then download the host file again. Should work.
After installing UVJI6 (I received it OTA), I am unable to see some apps from the market, in particular, ones that I use frequently. Is there a way to fix this or has someone found some sort of documentation from Samsung/TMobile on this?
Thanks!
This has been addressed, please learn to use search kthx
Yes, I've seen others report this though I don't recall seeing a fix. I'm still a little annoyed at how long the swipe needs to be now to unlock the screen.

I did search and didn't see it. Would you mind sharing the link if you've seen it?
The answer is easy: Google/Samsung haven't authorized the latest updates Market yet. When they authorize it the missing applications will show up. You will have the same missing apps if you go through Kies, OTA, or Odin. You can put a hack in place to get around it but I would not recommend it. The hack causes your market to identify itself as JFD instead of JI6. In theory that could cause missing new apps in the future.
Have you tried the Android 2.2 style Market app on Vibrant?
@spiz516, I also had the same problem after using ODIN to perform my update (following a failed OTA push). I like kmfisher's answer. But if you absolutely can't wait, and you are rooted, here's how you can do it:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804763
See post #24.
After I performed this fix, I was able to see a few missing applications. However, I also noticed that this also brought back a horrible Market application lag. So, I will probably send it back since I've downloaded the two applications I needed that were market locked.
Good Luck!

Awesome, thank you for the response. Much appreciated!
Clear Cache too. I don't have any worse lag, this has nothing to do with anything that would break something like market speed besides old cache maybe.
I'm trying to install some of the Humble Indie Bundle 6 games on my N4 and I'm running into a problem I've never faced before. The APK files download just fine, but when it comes to actually opening them to start the installation, it won't install. The button that says "install" does nothing when I press it. I checked in my security settings and "unknown sources" are allowed. I included screenshots of both these in the attached files. I even tried un-selecting the "verify apps" option, in case the humble bundle app had been removed from their white list for some reason, it still won't install.
I thought it might be a bug with the Humble Bundle beta app so I tried to uninstall and reinstall it, but it too is getting stuck on the installation. It downloads just fine but it won't install. I've tried rebooting my phone, still no luck. I'm on the latest Jelly Bean 4.2.2. Has anyone else been getting this problem, or does anyone have any idea on how I could fix it? I didn't pay much for the games but it sort of sucks to have bought them and be unable to play any of them like this.
I'd like to try with some more third party apps to see if it's all of them, or if it's just the Humble Bundle APKs that are causing me trouble (if it's the later I can probably contact Humble Bundle and ask them for assistance), but I'm not familiar with those. Could someone please recommend some good safe ones I can test out?
My humble bundle beta installed fine. So at least you know the app should work. Sorry can't help you more. Hopefully someone else has a solution. Silly question... have you tried rebooting?

are you running paranoid android? disable halo, or so ive read.
Any app that requires permission to draw over other apps can potentially cause what you're experiencing. Examples include but are not limited to:
- the HALO feature in PA ROMs
- Screen filter apps
- Other floating apps

Could any of that happen if I haven't rooted?
Also,
I've just tried to reinstall TubeMate, another third party app I like. It's APK also refuses to install, which probably means there's a problem with my phone and not just the Humble Bundle app. I'm starting to think I'll have to factory reset the phone, which is certainly do-able, just... not very fun.

Yes, this can happen without root access. I've seen your problem addressed several times in multiple forums and ALL of them is because of a floating app.
Look through your app list. Is there ANY app that, as a feature, floats on top of other apps?
Eg, Facebook Messenger, Screen Filter, Floating Stickies, AirCalc, etc
Just force stop them and you should be able to sideload apk's again.

The phone says 1.68 GB are free, but when I plug it into my desktop it tells me 1.57 GBs. So... somewhere between those two.
EDIT:
Found it... It was the Twilight app (no, not THAT Twilight... lol), it's an app that tints the whole screen a slight redish color so it doesn't hurt my eyes too much when I use the phone in the evening. That must count as a "floating". The moment I disabled that I was able to successfully install the APK. YOU SIR, ohyearar, have won a thanks.
I have a Note 3 in Canada with Rogers and I am getting these extremely annoying pop up ads as soon as I unlock my phon it would pop up. It is basically a box in the middle of the screen different websites usually NSFW that give two options of either downloading or checking later. I have tried Push Detector and other Adware detector but they don't find any issues.
Please help.
Thank you.

If you have a rooted device you can always install Greenify and simply just hibernate all the apps you don't use.
None of the standard apps should do that -- and if Rogers has installed bloatware that does this then they should be taken to task.
It is almost certainly some app you installed,

What is happening when you click long on him ? Try keep finger little longer of him.
I tried holding the ad for a while to maybe the app info, but it wouldn't give me any option.
I can definitely feel my Note 3's performance has slowed down and battery drains much faster.
I used Greenify as well, using only the Apps that I am certain shouldn't have an adware but no dice.

Use Minmin guard and r xprivacy modules for xposed framework...
Minmin guard stops those annoying popup ads being downloaded from the net. Please note however that any popup downloaded already is still there and will be displayed until you clear cache and dalvik cache...
Xprivacy offers you the choice of allowing apps the right to use or block certain privelages, things like like access imei/contact lists/accounts and access to the internet and also root privelages... This is essentially a firewall that requires your authorisation to allow new apps the right to use your phone how it wants...

Sounds like you need to do a full wipe and stay away from that App. It's most likely a virus that will keep doing this. Do you install a lot of third-party apps? Like, you didn't find it on Google Play Store and you just downloaded it from internet and installed it?
I was thinking maybe I should just do a wipe and then see what happens.
I don't download a lot of third party apps but I have downloaded some.
How about clearing cache and Dalvik cache as the other poster had suggested?
My devise is rooted, maybe just back up the essential apps and install a new ROM ?
Maybe you should check your battery usage in Settings. If it is draining your battery, you should see the app on the list? Unless you know what app is causing it, you probably install it later and get it back. No, Dalvik and Cache clearing won't fix your problem.
