I installed G-Alarm (latest version) and it kept crashing randomly (although the program worked and saved settings). I got tired of it crashing so I uninstalled it from my phone and installed an older version 1.5.1, it went through the install fine and asked me to save settings and reboot, upon rebooting the phone I'm greeted with the dreaded "Your device cannot boot so press volume up and it will erase all your information".
Ugh, WTF. How can uninstalling an application from my phone cause it to not boot?
I can't believe the lack of responses people get in their threads on this forum.

Do not complain
Have patience, as everybody has a life out there!
I would try another version of the app, if not re flash another ROM and try installing.

Lol, and the only reply I got was an off-topic one from someone telling me not to complain because other people have lives. I guess I'm used to forums that reply because they have answers to the questions.
I'll just browse this forum instead of asking questions, because it seems like many users don't get replied and that is including me.
so I'll just be the general user and download roms and stfu.
It'll work
Your question "Ugh, WTF. How can uninstalling an application from my phone cause it to not boot?" is a legitimate rhetorical one. It's not suppose to happen, but sometimes it does. It happened to me when I tried to uninstall a particular build of Opera Mobile 9.7 recently. Nobody can explain it. That's why you're not getting a response.
And you're sure you've provided all the information needed for us to answer your question
You did not mention anything, not the ROM you are using, no other programs, if .NET is installed and so on.
I simply can tell you that I never had such a problem with GAlarm as long as I am using it (must be a year now).

i know there are tons and tons of ROMs to try, but i dont really have the time and patience to try every single ROM to find what i need, which is quite simple/basic really. i'm still running a stock ROM that my TMOUS HD2 came with, but the SMS is laaaaaaaaaaggggggy as can be. almost makes me want to return my phone. it's kind of laggy switching between conversations and stuff like that, but the major issue i have with it is when i get an incoming text, my whole phone freezes. sometimes up to 10 seconds. and if i'm talking to more than one person at once, it gets SO frustrating and i want to break the phone into pieces lol
so basically, i'm just curious as to if anyone knows of a specific ROM (or ROMs) that significantly speed up the SMS issue. i've searched a few, but none that got SMS specific. most just say faster and more reliable. so now i'm deciding to post a thread for one. the only thing i have on my phone currently is cookies home tab. along with a few other minor cabs (like the middle unlock slider)
i'm ok about trying a few out, i just cant go down the long list of ROMs flashing for days. so any help would be greatly appreciated
and also, sometimes the whole SMS app will act up and i will get a text, and it will say the exact same message that i just sent, just looks like it's from the other person. so i have to delete the whole conversation to be able to text again. and at other times i will send a text, and i think they get the message, but it never shows up in the conversation. again, delete the convo and restart the phone. it's quite irritating.
i should also mention i want to keep the conversation setup, and i do use swype (i think i read somewhere that swype wasnt compatible with that particular ROM)
If your phone is freezing that long then there is another issue at hand. Try formatting your SDCard. I experienced freezing once early on and formatting the SDCard fixed it for me.
As for a ROM to use, this question is asked at least once a week and no one can answer it for you but yourself. If you don't have the patience to try different ROMS then you really should read abit more on the forum before making a decision.
Energy ROMS work very good for me for what it's worth.
yeah i have a few i am going to try, but i thought maybe someone was experiencing a similar issue that they fixed. would save me some trouble heheh.

Hey all,
Any Copilot users here? Are you able to create any new favourite locations? The process all seems to go through properly for me but then no favourite is created, even my recent destinations doesn't update itself, it's like something isn't able to be written to. Anyone else?
I'm using OD 3.1.0
Thanks
Russ
I'm sorry to say, but if you bought copilot you have to contact the official support. If you did NOT buy it: GO AWAY - these requests are not wanted in here!

Woah there horsey, that's a big assumption! Someone needs to decrease their righteousness.
I did indeed buy it, no dodgy copies here and I have contacted support directly but sometimes knowledgeable people with faster response times can be found on here.
i have no problems saving favorits on my copilot, im using version 8.2.0.218, i dont know if this is of any help but if you run copilot without the gps on it dosent seem to save anything you do
Same version here, GPS is definitely on too. Could be an Opendesire ROM issue maybe?

try clearing the data & cache in settings/applications, see if that helps
That was the first thing I tried. Then I uninstalled and even deleted the folder from the SD Card and reinstalled from scratch downloading the maps again and everything...no luck

maybe you should try a diffrent rom then sorry i cant help more, but its defo working on mine
Thanks anyway, appreciate the input. Lets hope an OD user stumbles upon this thread
I'm going to make a suggestion here, now don't think am saying this is better than that but have you tried sygic mobile maps instead? I use it myself and it's available from the HTC store so does that say anything for it?

I had this on my Hero when I took the sim out so can't really help. I tried NDrive when my Copilot expired (even though I purchased it months ago) and didn't like it at all (the UI wasn't very polished). Good luck if you contact Copilot support, they aren't the quickest.
I had that problem, updated to version v8.2.0.251, and the problem seems sorted.
Ooh yeah just noticed a new release today, has fixed it for me too, must have been a bug.
On a loosely related note...do you still have the option to turn off the "Welcome to Copilot Live" speech greeting when you start it? Seems to have disappeared on mine or I forgot where it is
No, lost the option to turn that off, along with the annoying beep every time you select something.
Same here...I'll send a message on twitter to their support
Good Luck,
I did report these as a problem by email a couple of weeks ago, and they notified me about the update 4 days ago. At least they solved the major problem in my eyes, only two more to go.

if you use the tts voice it doesnt say it, well atleast on mine lol
i have version 8.2.0.368 but i can not seem to save anything from home to favorites. wherever i exit the app, they are gone
This is my first post here and I'm not entirely sure if I'm posting in the right place....but here goes nothing (Please don't flame me. I'm learning, too!)
I've searched high and low on how to go about this and I can't find a thing about it. So, why not ask the question, right?
Well, since a certain kind XDA member (wink wink) was so wonderful as to root our R800x's, I was wondering if there is a way to disable the OTA that keeps randomly popping up so that we don't squander all his hard work. It would be terrible to grab our phones in the morning and find that we've been forcibly pushed into 2.3.3 with no say in the matter.
Does anyone have any ideas what to do?
Thank you all in advance!!
The rate Verizon goes with their updates you won't have to worry about this till at least next year LOL.
Good point Let's hope they don't decide to get all froggy and pop a release on us. I would cry....a lot, lol.
once you have root you may be able to firewall the ota process or nix it by removing verizon bloatware.
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
I apologize in advance for resurrecting this thread as I have been away for a while and haven't been able to get to XDA for a while. I was unfortunate enough to have my phone do the 2.3.3 update all by itself (if you can believe it) and then it bricked my phone. I used fastboot to bring my phone back to life and I'm wondering....would anyone be kind enough to tell me which firewall program I should get to make this thing stop issuing the OTA with detailed instructions? I'm a little naive when it comes to that. However I am a quick learner.
my phone was bricked by the update as well but luckily for me the updater force closes on me now(I guess a good thing) but it's something along the lines of com.android.updater or something like that. You could probably go through and delete it through root explorer. Don't know what will happen if it's deleted i assume nothing except it won't ask you to update anymore but I haven't had tome to try it
OK so I feel like a complete dumb-dumb now, haha. It seems that all you have to do is go into Titanium Backup, find the Mobile Care and fotainstaller programs, then freeze them. All fixed and no OTA! YAY! lol
I haven't seen any adverse reactions so far, but will post if I do.
Lucky me, I backed up and uninstalled Mobile Care the moment I rooted. However I haven't done anything with fotarebootreceiver 1.0 and I can't remember the last time I was prompted for an update.
I don't know If any has seen this but I have been constantly getting aforce close for the download agent.apk anyone seen this or know how to fix it?

Never got a notification there was an update.. Only found out by lurking around xda, then had to go to software updates to see if I had anything. So, no I have ideas for you.

you can try this
"To turn OFF future OTA updates, there is a file in the /system/etc/security folder. The file is named "otacerts.zip". Rename it "otacerts.zip.bak", or whatever you want. That will prevent future updates." -dont forget to mount r/w

That doesn't stop the phone from repeatedly downloading the update file and killing your battery.
We need to know the information from the build.prop file for the new update so that the phone will look like it is running with the update already.
doesnt work
renaming the file does nothing. I renamed it reset the phone and I still get the update alert about every hour
fixed it
If you have root explorer or es go to system, apps. then find innopath active care and rename it with .bak. it worked for me.
Hi,
*** PLEASE READ THIS THRU CAREFULLY BEFORE RESPONDING ***
I apologize. I am not trying to be rude. But I'm sure that we will all agree that it is simply wasting time and energy, when people do not read something thru and just paste in fixes that have already been stated as not working (below), or asking questions that have already been answered (below).
Anyway folks.....
I have read the various threads that I could find on this, but none of the problems are exactly like mine and none of the fixes helped me, so I thought I would try in a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 area. I hope I haven't violated any rules.
I have a 32GB Samsung Galaxy WiFi 10.1" P7510 Tablet and at least 8GB of free speace.
I am running the Factory ICS v4.0.4 ROM Rooted, with the A1 OverClocking Kernel & CWM added to it.
What's happening is the following:
Apps in Google Play will install fine. Updates also work.
Apps from Amazon App Store/Market will no longer update, nor "Reinstall".
Apps that I have downloaded from web sites (Apk files) will not install.
If I try to install one of the second and third options, I do get the box that pops up and it shows both the "Install", and "Cancel" buttons.
But if I tap "Install", nothing happens. No error messages, nothing. The button doesn't even visually indent like it normally would when you tap a button on your Android device.
I have tried uninstalling apps, to see if it was messing up on the amount of free space, but that didn't help.
I tried clearing the Cache and Data in both the Amazon and Google Stiores/Markets, but that didn't help.
I tried uninstalling one of my apps from the Amazon Market, to reinstall it, because it wouldn't update, but now it won't even install again!
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!!

Maybe an over-kill question, but have you allowed 'Unknown Sources' to be enabled? If so, then this is a stumper indeed. Your story looks so much like that -should- be the issue... Good luck if that is not the issue...

That is a good question, but yes, I do have it enabled. I even tried enabling and disabling the "Debug" setting just in case it would make a difference.
Thanks anyway.
Hi... I've searched the internet and forums for this and came up with nothing... My frustration is that it seems every time I pick up my phone to use it, it starts updating apps... I know I can turn off automatic updates but I know I will rarely manually update... I also have it set over wifi only... my question is: is there a way, or a third party app, to control the time when updates can occur? I would prefer them to occur while I'm asleep and not using my phone. I have a rooted phone on a custom rom. I've read theories about using a tasker and greenify but there were no details. Thanks in advance.
