4.2 stickmount?? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have anyone had any success mounting storage using USB OTG with stickmount on a rooted 4.2?
Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk 2

Yes and no, it does not mount my flashdrive as it was under 4.1...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

Yeah same. It was mounting well on 4.1.2 after I updated it detects but the folder is empty. I think they need to update the app
Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk 2

a couple funny things happened..
1. ez video player won't work
2. mx player won't work
3. stickmount can't find flashdrive:crying:
4. under settings, we are missing an option under 'SYSTEM' right between about tablet and accessibility.

I also find that stick mount says it has mounted the usb drive but it shows it as empty. Worked with 4.1.2 but not with 4.2. I LOVE stuck mount.

The development settings can be found by spamming the build number but IMO the apps aren't compatible yet with 4.2
Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk 2

Lol. Wow I thought they were joking about the tab 7 time thing to get USB debugging mode. Guess I won't reset to 4.1.2 just yet. Though no stick mount can be a real pain.

Same here, I played with it last night and was digging through the new file/sd card structure. It looks like they changed the way the symlinks worked with the SD Card to make it work with the multi users. TWRP also has a problem with backup location. I had lost root, recovery, nova isn't working right, no stick mount, I was frustrated and went to flash my nandroid back to 4.1.2 but TWRP could not found it. By the time I figured that out it was late, today is a new day so I decided to ride it out and wait for the app dev's to update their programs. I did not find the solution to Stickmount but if anyone is looking for where TWRP stores and looks for backups it's under /data/media/TWRP

I also hope chainfire can fix stick mount. In the meantime Nexus Media Importer still works so you can stream videos from a usb card and can import photos.

Stickmount recognizes drive but can't read it.

How do you format the Usb storage on Note

So yesterday I moved to JB
All is working great ard my phone is now running pretty smooth however I did think project butterwould be better.well maybe in the official release.
The problem is I Can't figure out how to format the USD storage.I tried from Settings Storage then formatbut it did not work. I also triedfromfactoryreset default and wipe all data with no success
Thank you

Plug your phone to your computer, and you can format all.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
It's may be because of the patch used by Samsung to avoid the brick bug. Use the pc option or boot in recovery and mount use storage and formatting is better
Thanks All
I did use my PC and it worked perfect

Storage expanded?

My nexus 7 is a 8gb WiFi version.
As I found the /0/0/0... thing in sdcard so annoying.
I copy all things in the last /0 folder and paste them into /sdcard
And finally delete all the remaining /0 stuff
After that,I notice the storage shown is increased to13.xx Gb
I check it on the settings/storage and in root explorer even in computer and they show the same
What happened?

I stopped reading at 0/0/0/0
You were doing factory resets with a custom recovery that did not grok 4.2's multiuser capability. Period.

But how could it relate to the amount of storage of the sdcard?it is now showing 13.36gb while it is a 8gb version

This is just my opinion, but maybe you shouldn't be replying to op if you didn't read his post. He wasn't asking about the 0/0/0/0 issue, he was merely stating that the size of his available storage grew past the default size.
As for a response to the OP... I have no clue why it'd do that.

What he said ^
This is the first thing I'd do, copy loads of stuff onto it, to see what is going down, maybe 8GB N7s are actually 16GB with hidden memory
And do post results!
and 16GB versions 32GB,32GB version 64GB?hahaha nice troll

Hmm this is interesting I don't know how that could happen
The only way to test if it really has that storage is to full up the device with that amount.

[Q] Confused about internal storage

Ok so hopefully somebody can set me straight here. My M comes with 8gb of internal storage. But I have run into app space issues and have read that only 4gb is accessible. If I'm correct that's disappointing. However it feels like less than 4gb is accessible to me. I deleted a couple more apps today, but here is my current storage usage (screenshot). I'm rooted on JB and have Titanium Backup so maybe that will allow me to transfer apps from internal storage to sd card. I have not yet tried it on the M and from the couple of posts I've read it may or may not be possible. I do not have a developer edition M. Which is what I read that you need. Is this the case? All my pics, vids, and music are already on the 32gb sd card. It's just apps taking up space on internal. What are my options for continually running out of storage so quickly?
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app
Example: The screenshot says I have 550mb available... Which isn't much at all... But I'm trying to install a 43.5mb app right now and I'm getting an internal storage warning. So my problem is two parts. 1, can't use the full 8gb and 2, can't even use what little space it says I have.

Do you have safe strap installed with an active slot? If so, use your root browser and delete the ss folder and in sdcard0, the safestrap folder which contains the ROM slot information. That should put you back around where you should be. Don't touch the TWRP folders and you will be fine to continue using safe strap.

I did install safestrap last week intending on loading a custom ROM, but ended up not feeling like I was experienced enough to do so at this time so I deleted the app. Would deleting the app have been enough to solve that issue?

You can also use directory bind to bind the data to the sdcard1 path. Works like a charm.

Not exactly sure what you mean. Is directory bind an app? Would this be necessary if I have already deleted safestrap for the time being?

if it has 8gig why does it only let you use half of it..and what's the purpose of the other 4gig left... because as far as I know when you install apps it takes up the space of the 4gig that you you.
Directory bind can get you in some trouble if you are not careful. Delete one side on accident, you delete the other's content as well. Directory bind just links two locations and basically acts like a forwarding service.
Back to Safestrap. Yes, Safestrap partitions your usable memory for the other operating system file. Its just like dual booting a computer, you don't have shared memory between the two. (As far as internal memory is concerned.)
Did you delete the folders? It should fix your issue. Check your storage stats in stock settings afterwards to confirm.

Deleting the app alone will not get rid of the partition, in my experience. Reboot your phone to see if its gone too. The folders are /ss and /storage/sdcard0/Safestrap. You could also delete the TWRP folders if they are present, since you do not need Safestrap any longer.
Let me know if this solves your issue.

I don't seem to have either of those folders when I tried to search for them with root explorer. So maybe I didn't do anything when I opened up safestrap when I had it.
And to clarify, sdcard0 is internal storage and sdcard1 is the actual sd card correct?

Yes sir. That is correct. Did you make a slot when you opened safe strap? Normally that eats up memory like crazy.

I probably downloaded it then left it alone while I researched a bit and never ended up doing anything. I'll move some stuff over from sdcard0 if I have any pics or music still on there to free up a little space or maybe try one of those complex work arounds to free up some of that extra 4gb eventually.

Where do you keep your backups and roms

Just wondering where you guys keep your backups and roms. Usually I keep mine on usb drives to save storage on my device. But seeing as the nexus 4 doesn't support that I was wondering if anyone had better idea.

don't really keep them anywhere.. I just keep a copy in my phone and delete the older ones. I only do a nandroid when I know I might flash something that fks **** up and I only backup when I know everything's fine.
I only backup when I need to flash something as well.

you should always keep one nandroid backup in your storage, it could save you hours of anguish later on. the more recent, the better.
Speaking of nandroids, I JUST had to restore one. Flashed PA and some mods that gave me a bootloop. Luckily it was only 2 days old.
I keep my backups on my computer. I have a Mac so with Android File Transfer it's easy to copy onto my computer or back onto my phone. Easy as pie.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
None. I prefer just keeping a latest titanium backup and I'm fine with starting from scratch. Only takes me five minutes max
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I ALWAYS keep a bare minimum system backup just in case anything goes wrong. I tend to back up dat once a week, and especially before I flash anything. It's a good habit to implement, trust me lol

Titanium backup is never 100%, especially on system stuff....
I have lots on my PCs 2nd hard drive along with lots of android stuff.
I always keep at least 1 on my phone.
I keep my favourite ( stock, slimbean and mokee ) zipped and uploaded onto dropbox.

I guess I am missing something. What is so hard about keeping your backups on a USB drive? I do a Titanium full backup and a TWRP full backup. I then copy and paste the backups via Windows to my USB drive. Finally I delete them from my phone to save space.

I see. Sorry, my misunderstanding of the topic. I only keep the backups for disaster recovery so I don't lose all my settings and app installs; I never had to use them. Also, I never did a nandroid backup.

SD card won't format

Sup guys. I don't know if this is the right place to post this. But here I go. My 32gb San Disk micro SD card was working fine on my gs3 until I got my s4 and now it seems to be write protected. I can't delete or add anything onto the card. It worked fine on the s3 though. So I Googled a little about this and came across a piece of software, which I downloaded and made use of. But the tool I used to supposedly fix the card actually made it worse. Now the phone can't read it, nor can the PC explore its files (but can detect the device), its like a non allocated partition that just needs formatting. But I have tried windows format utility, SD card formatter, HD low level formatter, and HP USB disk utility software and all of them without success. Please help me as I don't know what else to do.

use cwm recovery to format sdcard. u may need to root ur ph for dat
Yes the galaxy s4 does seam to have issues with sdcards, I myself had corrupt sdcard twice for no apparent reason. Your sdcard will now be in RAW file system and from experience very hard to recover, I've tried dozens of recovery windows apps to fix the partition without success (maybe just didn't try the right app) you can however recover SOME datas on the sdcard but there is no guarrentee how much or what you can successfully recover.
The moral of this story is to ALWAYS backup your data.

Hi, pop it in a camera, if it detects it you are lucky, format it there and you're all set. Unfortunately you will lose all the data

Yes, that's unfortunately my last resort. I was hoping it didn't have to get to that point though, cause where I live, a 32gb micro SD card is expensive as ****. But oh well. Thank you guys for trying.

Why not just get a card reader and use a PC and partition minitools?
To get your SD card back You may even need to do a LOW LEVEL format. This is very different from a standard format.
Use Google and get a freeware version of a low level format software then repartition USB/flash drive then normal fat32 format.
