[Q] update to 4.1 and lost FOX-FI - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I accepted the update to 4.1 and now it says that Fox-fi is not supported? Help

Fox-Fi only works for the Nexus with Jelly Bean. You'll need to root and use Wi-Fi Tether.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi
"WiFi mode also does not work on Jelly Bean (Except for Verizon Galaxy Nexus)."

If you are rooted, or don't mind rooting, you should follow this post, it got the built in hotspot and bluetooth tethering working for me.
I don't have unlimited data, but I am not in a share everything, so they haven't enabled my hotspot, even though I am going to pay for the bandwidth. Silly Verizon!

To you non-rooted users, is 3g hotspot really free?

I'm getting lots of text of people with ota 2.2's trying to get hotspot, I keep telling them that they should be able to get free 3g hotspot but that theres no known root method for official ota 2.2 yet to unlock 4g wireless tethering. Is it true or am I giving them bad info?
i am not rooted and have no 3g wifi hotspot at all.

hmm and your stock 2.2 or 2.1? Its working for me on cm6, in wireless & network settings, under tethering & portable hotspot I check the portable wi-fi hotspot and it turns on
You are giving them bad info
Sprint does not allow 3G Mobile Hotspot without the additional add-on SOC code for $29.99.
I do not get the OP. He asks us if us non-root ota 2.2 users get 3g wifi hotspot but when i post and say i dont he asks what version and ohh i get it and im running cm6.
Duh......You are rooted and have a different rom.
i know i will not get 3g wifi hotspot without sprints add on. my other account has it but my business one does not.
I got 3g hotspot for the first couple months, but I think they were offering it for free.
if you could get it for free on a non-rooted phone why would sprint be charging $30 a month? because you cant.
Before 2.2 I could get 4G mobile hotspot free. 3G did not work.
After 2.2 neither work.
This was expected.
Froyo's built in wifi hotspot works on Cyanogen rom. Used it to download a 600MB coldfusion server install the other day at work since they block executable downloads
Well if you have Cyanogen, you're rooted. If you're rooted, there's any number of ways of doing this.
I *think* the OP's question (reading between the lines) was something like, I heard 2.2 would have native hotspot capability, so is that true in the official Sprint OTA?
If that's what he's asking, the answer is No, as expected. Yes 2.2 has that, but of course Sprint turns it off in their ROM else they couldn't charge for it.
Lemme make this simple:
IT IS NOT FREE.
(For non-rooted, users of the official OTA)
If people are able to use it now, either Sprint's made an error (like they did with 4G tethering when the EVO first launched), or they're going to be hit with a $30 + tax increase on their bill next month.[/thread]

Native Bluetooth tethering fix on ATT/Straight Talk

Using the native Wifi tether in ICS LPF works fine for me on Straight Talk (ATT MVNO) but the Bluetooth tether would pop up a message
"to enable bluetooth tethering on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dial 611"
There are two ATT plan types from what I understand, those who pay more to get tethering, and those without. I suspect those with tethering don't get this error message, and all Straight Talk plans probably don't have tethering on the account.
After some searching, I read this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13896427&postcount=19 and found something similar to freeze in TiBackup. There's an app called TetheringProvision 1.04.10 that I froze, and now I can do BT tether. Hopefully this might help someone out in the future.

I've never had any issues like this with native BT tethering... Are you on the international unlocked Note or the one from AT&T? TetheringProvision 1.04.10 sounds like AT&T bloatware to me... Precisely the reason I don't ever buy from carriers... EVER!

[Q] [I9500] Wi-Fi Hotspot question.

Well after I updated my I9500 to KitKat yesterday and rooted it (didn't install custom rom. All I did was update and root it through odin), I was playing around with tethering and out of a sudden, the wifi hotspot works on my device (only tried it for a couple of mins). I'm on At&t network and have NO tethering plan whatsoever nor use any rooted tethering apps.
So I am wondering if any of you know why it works or should I be concern if At&t is going to charge me for it if I use it for an extended amount of time?

Its quite possible that they will charge u. Its better to wait for ur bill and confirm without using it any further...
Sent from my GT-I9500
You can use WiFi hotspot anytime. It's like a LAN network as long as your mobile data is turned off. You'll get charged once the mobile data is turned on.
cheers ~

4.4.3 and Wifi tethering?

Is anyone on a completely stock and unrooted N4 having any Wifi tethering issues after the update? Which mobile provider and do you have the unlimited tether plan? I need to know this before I take the risk with this update.. I'd love to have the latest radio, dialer, etc.

Wifi tethering works fine for me, tested on stock and on a custom rom for 4.4.3. Just make sure you have the latest radio when updating to 4.4.3 and then you won't have any issues
I am using 3 network here with tethering included in the UK with no issues:good:

WiFi tether beta starting with errors

Hello everyone,
Just had a question about the WiFi tether beta this is about the uscc version, I'm posting this here because I couldn't find anywhere else to post it and I did just purchase a sprint version to test on since I have rooted a phone since the s3 and EVO lte. Anyway I have disabled the syncronoss tedc which let me enable foxifi on the phone with out it being stopped and cancelled for not having a tether plan. But when using the latest tether beta it will start with errors is set on auto and will be cancelled if set to native hot spot
