So ya, I just dropped my Nexus 7 and it broke off a small corner of the digitizer and a crack through the whole screen. Now the screen is unresponsive to touch. Is there anyone that sells the digitizers? I can't seem to find them on Amazon. Is there just not any replacement parts for it? This blows. I love my N7. I really don't want to shell out $250 more. :crying::crying::crying:
EBay.
I think 159.00 get a nice case while your there.
Sorry about your tab. It does suck
Ug, for that price I may as well just get a new one and save this one for parts, minus the screen/LCD. /sigh. Turns out hte digitizer works, just above the highest point of the crack. I managed to get it into recovery and made a nandroid.
Heh, I did want to upgrade to a 32gb model, but was planning on selling this one first. Ug. Thanks man!
Maybe I'll try to part this one out and sell the parts. Though being so new, I doubt any will sell. Most are under warranty unless they are dropped and I think the screen/digitizer is the part that breaks the most.
I just dropped mine as well and the screen is cracked and unresponsive. I saw that it cost 170 for a new screen so Im just replacing it. It really sucks. Im not buying through Google again. Ive ordered it from Walmart and got the $20.00 2 year protection plan, I should be able to pick it up today.
Some people just shouldn't have nice things...those people should give that stuff to me.

Man that sucks. I'm sooooo protective of my n7 I get super nervous when other people hold it and I keep it in two cases just in case. On topic though you might be able to get a broken one from someone on here then swap out the stuff you need. I'd just take the hit buy a new one and a couple cases. I use the OEM case from Asus and I put it in a m-edge kindle fire zipper case. It fits snug and offers great protection.

Well I just dropped my Xoom face down onto a tile floor. I just got done cleaning it so it was bare. I picked it up expecting the worst, and I found nothing. I do have a screen protector on it that has two small "nicks" where the grout line hit, but nothing on the Xoom. That brings me to my question, has anyone destroyed their Xoom yet?

I had mine in the folio case the other day getting out of the car & somehow it slipped out my hand & fell on the ground so hard that I was sure it had broke the screen. But to my suprise when I opened the folio case up there wasn't 1 single scratch or anything!! Then I turned it on & everything worked like clockwork.I love this thing!!

Amazing stuff to hear. Of course you guys had more extreme cases than I did. I was holding mine up maybe only a foot or so and it fell flat onto my table with a loud sound. I was really freaked out (knowing how fragile screens can be). Gotta say I was amazed there is literally no sign of anything wrong or even that it fell. Motorola has worked some magic shield onto these things.
Oh God this thread has made me happy and nervous. I ALWAYS drop stuff. It's not a matter of *if* I drop it, it's *when and how much damage*.
There have been a few reports about scratches and cracks:
Borilla glass my ass!
Cracked Xoom glass
So you can definitely damage the Xoom
Don't try this at home folks....
Yeah, when I dropped and shattered the screen on my HD2 that cost me a small fortune to replace, I'd hate to know the cost to replace this screen over here.

It cost me about $300 just to replace my HD2 screen in deep dark Africa, so this baby would probably cost the same as a new device. One would also have to make sure it is not one of those SHP screens either.

Just got my Nexus S this afternoon, and after having the EVO for over a year I can definitely say that the curves of the Nexus are very nice. I do have to get used to how slippery it feels, though; it keeps wanting to slide out of my hand.
I suggest getting a decent case for it.
I got the case-mate pop!. While it certainly adds some bulk, it effectively takes care of any tendencies to slip out of your hand - and adds a layer of protection, should it happen anyways. Oh, and definitely get a quality screen protector. This isn't gorilla glass. No idea how it happened, but I got a small but ugly scratch in my screen before I put one on. Bothers me from time to time.
There's a TPU soft shell case I got from BestBuy, seriously slim and so form fitting. It's their Rocketfish brand and well worth it.
Sku# is 2494399. Cost 21 bucks, but I got it for half that with some gift certs.

Ewww. Don't do that.
http://www.rearthusa.com/Nexus-S-_p_160.html $16.99 and the quality is probably better. I received a review product from these guys and if a bulky case such as CM Pop doesn't fit you. Get the Ringke case, it's definitely worth it. A lot of review videos / threads are on this if you want to learn more about it.
CM Pop.. my only complaint is how hard it is to take the case off. One day I accidently broke the case (not really breaking it but cracked it in the back) because it was so difficult to take off. So now there is a line on the back of that case.

Okay so it's been less than a f***ing week and I've managed to crack my Nexus 7 32GB 3G. Hell yeah. Fell on a bathroom ceramic tile from 4 foot high and the corner bit chipped off. The entire touch screen works though, it's just the corner bit cracked.
SO ANYWAYS! I have a few questions for those smart guys out there that know about displays.
First of all, I've found out from the internet, that because the LCD and the Digitiser are glued together, I'd need to buy them together. Otherwise known as a Nexus 7 Display Assembly.
Few questions:
1) If I buy a display assembly from ebay for example, will it be of less quality than ASUS's original screen, or will it probably just be a part from ASUS anyways?
2) If I do buy this display assembly, will it still have the same number of Pixels as the original screen?
3) Will it have the same brightness, same touch responsiveness, same all that **** as the original screen?
If not, I may consider just repairing directly from ASUS, so...
4) How much does it cost in pounds(£) to repair the N7 Screen all in, taking into account my shipping fees from the UK?
Seriously need someone who has any experience of this whatsoever
I'm considering if I should repair this with the 3rd party screen and sell it privately if it's not the same quality, then buy a brand new one for myself. What's your guys thoughts on this? I really need some of your expert advice
I JUST replaced the screen on my nexus. I bought the display assembly from powerbookmedic.com, and the tools I needed from iFixit.com. All in all, it cost me around $200 in the States. The repair process was pretty easy, and the screen looks and functions exactly the same as the original screen. My only suggestion would be to make sure you have some good adhesive. I have a little screen lift now because the adhesive lost its traction when I took the cracked screen off the upper casing. Good luck!

Huh? Adhesive? We have to add adhesive? I thought adhesive was only to the digitiser + the lcd screen? I thought that it already comes assembled when you buy the part, because apparently you have to buy it together? If it isn't used for digitiser/lcd screen, then what did you use adhesive for?
The digitizer is indeed fused to the glass, but the silver ring you see around your screen is also fixed to the glass with adhesive, and that part doesn't come with the LCD/digitizer assembly.
The screen affixed itself to this upper casing on mine okay, but I do have about a millimeter or so of screen lift now which I didn't have before.

The best way to attach the new display is to use very thin two sided tape. you cut it in 1/8 inch strips. Apple it all the way around the bezel. then with a sharp knife run it along the inside bezel. Pay close attention to the thin bezel area on the left side ({where screen lift occurs) To be sure you do have it perfect in that area.. Ithe screen face down on cloth . Push the bezel onto the sticky tape (with film removed of course.. Turn device over and put back together.. LEAVING OUT THE TWO CENTER SCREWS or leave then very loose on the left side.(if you have a newer model of nexus these screws will be gone anyway). I have done many phone /tablet screens . If you can get it apart and back together you can replace the screen assembly..
No real need to send it to someone else nexus is easy to dissemble reassemble
Good Luck... Buy a full working 8 gb from ebay for 150.00 might be your best best....
Any clue How to detach the broken glass\digitazer\lcd from this aluminiun bezel?
I recently broke my screen as well. I saw on ebay only 2 options. First option is a screen only for about $50 which doesn't look like it will do anything for me. You the second option is a digitizer for around $300. $300 clearly exceeds the cost of a brand new device so that wouldn't make any sense at all. Even $200 doesn't make sense as I can buy a 8gb device for that and swap screens. I have the 16gb model. Does anyone have any cheaper sources for screen/digitizer that make economic sense?
Thanks,
Dan

It seems pretty pointless to me why you posted that in response to my comment about the chinese website because
a) It was a chinese website... I just needed some help because of the language lol
b) It seems we're only interested in the screen which is what was being suggested... not the a full device like you said lol
c) Your price is $179... his price for the screen was ~$120... so even if I was to harnass only the screen in your one... I'm still at a loss.. lol
Thanks for the try though!
Actually $179 for an entire new (refurbished) nexus 7 with 16gb more storage than mine is a very tempting option. I may choose to do that vs spending almost the same to import a screen from China, have to go through the hassle of installing it myself and hopefully do it properly and have it look clean and factory. If I did that then I could still hang on to my broken one in hopes that in 6 months or so the screen prices might drop to a more reasonable price.

Hi, I've had the nexus for two days now and yesterday I dropped it from about two feet to the kitchen floor. Nothing happened to the phone. The floor is sort of like plastic? I'm not sure what kitchen floors are made of. Anyway, this is my first glass phone and I'm very paranoid that I may crack it someday. I've seen what happens if you drop a glass phone, i.e iPhone and nexus and its scary. My previous phone; I never dropped it once (at least that I can recall), but this phone is a lot slimmer and easier to slip from the hand.
I primarily ask because I'm one of those people who would rather have a 'naked' phone. I feel like it shows the true beauty of phones, but I also don't want to have a shattered phone
I also take good care of my phones. But you never know what can happen.

Absolutely man, buy a good case and a screen cover. Its worth the extra 30 or 40$.
I use a pouch case (the shocksock leather one, looks very nice on the phone) which protects the entire phone when it's in my pocket but allows me to use it without a case or screen protector. Worked for me for two years with my HD2 (not a single scratch or dent apart from once when my friend dropped it when using it) and hopefully it should work for me with this phone too.

Tmobile store now has the hard body glove case and the silicon case. I got the hard case and it is great did not noticibly change the weight or size of the phone like a lot of cases
I bought the Acase Superleggera Pro from Amazon for $15 and have had it for a few days. I can finally rest easy about dropping it since it has the hard shell on the outside with the silicone layer on the inside almost like an Otterbox (2 stage case). All port cutouts are precise and buttons are easy to press. I've owned 2 other cases and both seemed to offer little protection for it. I just hope I never have to test it lol.
I'm just like you: anxious and not liking cases and I definitely advise you to use one. I bought a 3$ TPU case and it protects the phone well plus it makes it less slippery.

Using the official bumper + skinomi screen protector. Works very well for me. Dropped the phone once, ~1meter fall (from my pocket) on wooden floor, the bumper definitely saved it.
Take a case and a 2 protectors(face and bottom) to protect the phone from scratches. Both cost about 10 €
I use them since the first day and everything is fine for me. It saved my phone more than once.
Bought a Cruzerlite android army case. Fits really well, looks good, and the TPU material is soft and protective.

Thanks for passing it on. Got 5 screen protectors for a few different phones for $3.49 shipped.
I got this on a promotion a while back. Personally I didn't like it and replaced it already. This is a wet apply screen protector and it has a very gummy, soft feeling to it. Fit was OK and it seemed to protect well, but I couldn't stand the gummy feeling of it. I bought a cheapo pack of dry ones off Amazon instead.

I saw this sale listed on slickdeals the other day, and as soon as I saw they were applied wet, I passed. I bought a Zagg Invisible Shield once when it was the only thing available locally that would fit the phone I needed it for, and I'll never get another wet-apply screen protector again.

I bought several a few months ago when they were 80% off. Not bad, especially for the price. It was very easy to install and after a couple days the "tacky" feel went away and was very smooth... Definitely not up to par with the higher end screen pros but at a small fraction of the price, to me, is a very good deal.
I would recommend them at the greatly discounted price, they get the job done and they are extremely easy to install perfectly.
AT&T Moto X rocking rooted 4.4
I already had a screen protector that I really like (the Power Support one from Motorola site), but I ordered one of the Xtreme Guard back side protectors. It was extremely easy to install, looks great, and adds just a little grip to the phone, which was more slippery than I would have liked. For 50% off (the deal at the time I ordered), this was definitely worth it.
Much deal. Very protection.
If you want a higher quality screen protector without that sticky feel I strongly recommend Skinomi over these. Still pretty cheap. On sale for $9 on Amazon.

I use Fosmon screen protector and am satisfied. It's quite resistant to scratches, compared to some other films I have used in the past.
Xtreme Guard is ok, I actually like the wet installation method because it guarantees there will be no bubbles. I just don't like its tackiness which doesn't go away with time. Plus it's a finger print attractant, and sometimes it displays rainbow patterns when viewed from a certain angle.
Make sure you poke out the hole for the mic at the bottom of the protector. I did not the first time & no one could hear me.

Maybe. My RAZR one was flawless. Tiny bit tacky but overall very smooth, no bubbles, no orange peel, no rainbow.
My nexus 7, however, had 3 attempts and they're all too sticky. One had serious orange peel effect too and another had permanent bubbles after just 2nd attempt. But worst is the stickiness. You can literally hear your fingers squeeking across the screen.
Ps: with Canadian shipping, it's $22+. MimeUSA is $24 + $5 shipping. Totally worth it.
Pps: I'm using XtremeGuard now on my nexus. It isn't perfect but a whole lot smoother.
