there has been a strange increase of battery problems for note users here on xda . bloated battery . flickering battery % and what not...
i read somewhere in xda that the note battery is only bound to last a year or so...is it true ?
if its true that means we as are gonna see a lot more similar threads in the coming months when people cross the 1 year mark
being a heavy user my phone has been constantly on charge for.the past 9 months ..And recently I've noticed that my battry takes longer to charge and then runs out quicker than before.
is this 1 year battery thing , a samsung issue or an android issue ?? or is it an acceptable life for a smartphone battery ?
what do you guys think ?
Battery is dying.. mine is 10 months old and it started flickering after installing a jb rom.. replaced it and everythings fine

My Note is one year and three days old and is still going strong with the original and only battery I've used. I can't say I've noticed a drop in battery life at all. Typically I top up the battery daily from the original charger, although it could go for a few days between charges if it had to. I just prefer to have a full battery when I leave the house. You never know what your needs might be throughout the day - emergencies, for example. I usually let it charge past the first sign of 100%, all the way until I get the additional "Full" green battery appear in the notification bar.
As for ROMS, I've tried every stock ROM since release (now on the latest stock ICS and have been since it came out) and also dabbled briefly with AOKP and Paranoid.
I wonder, isn't battery also 1 year guarantee?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
The standard phone battery guarantee is usually for 6 months.

From my experience, having two different android phones, spare battery chargers always charge the battery fully unlike the handsets. I would say draining the battery fully from time to time and charge it by a spare battery charger enhances the battery life back to "what is expected". No manual battery calibration is needed if you own a spare battery charger for your phone.
I rotate usage with 2 batteries. Therefore everything is cool.

The on off charge indicator can be a sign of a broken USB board. Mine suffered this last week I change the board myself using spare parts one brought from eBay one from a uk online store. This solved the charge issue however reduced signal by a long way on both boards so sent off to samsung now and will pay to get it fixed. Reason signal plummeted is the aerial is connected to this board also

Strange enough the batt life span is just 1 and 1/2 year. Mine just change to a new batt few weeks back. It was bloated. Why cant they produce more durable batt? Something similar like nokia batt?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I got two extra Anker batteries that last longer than the original and a charger for $15 on Ebay. Big deal.

Mine is ten months old. Now batt bloated and flickering starts after just a few minutes. Went downhill fast over about three week period. . I need a new battery.
Two questions-
Can i get one from the Samsung store in Manila as warrantee replacement? (my phone is from Germany via USA Amazon)
If not, can i get those third party Antek batts in Manila? Green hills? or from Ebay.ph? They got best reviews on Amazon.

Has anyone tried buying a non official battery for their MS2 and care to comment or recommend any? Im going on holiday to france and i know my phone wont last a whole day without charging, so I was thinking of buying a second battery.
I read in another forum that using a non-Motorola battery displays some kind of warning. I'd go with an original battery.

using a non-original battery could have detrimental effects on your phone. there was a discussion on this on the forum of another phone. using a non-original battery could lead to leaks and other problems which would eventually lead to the warranty of your phone being voided.
stick with original motorola products. yes the battery might be very underpowered, but its the safest bet to ensure the longevity of ur phone
With a non original battery, the battery indicator of your phone shows a interrogation symbol. Also, it does not charge with the phone charger.

I 'm using a non-original battery . The MOMAX and everything's good ,it feels just like the original one except for battery tempperature sensor. the temp is always 26 in celsius
I personally have used seidio for my milestone and it works like a charm, its the extended 2800mah one it really performs like it should and not like how a lot of people claim thats its way less than stock! It does not always read it correctly but a quick reboot fixes that, like 50% after reboot would usually be about 70-80%. They way i used to use my phone (light to moderate level) would last about 2-3 days but after the extended I got twice that and some more. Just make sure you get stuff from the original manufactures either way and don't go for deals at amazon or whatnot as those guys might be selling either defected or not proprely stored stuff. Batteries are critical components don't go cheap on them! And no, my phone has not been messed up or had any leaks or anything and I have this for about 3-4 months now. The original battery degraded in about 6months if you have to compare.
That sounds promising, does the battery need to be charged with an external charger? And does the milestone complain that you are not using the official bettery

reebooting your phone to get the exact picture also works on the standard battery. my question is, does the back part which houses the battery heat up when used? does the phone get hot during charging? do you need a new battery cover for it? and besides the longer usability, have you noticed any other performance issues on the phone?

Actually the rebooting to get the exact picture is not the same here, a jump to 20-30% on a stock battery? I don't think so. No I never encountered any odd behavior with the other battery. No getting extra hot during charge or use, get the typical little bit of heat while using 3G and browsing like mad but that would happen on the stock battery too. Battery cover for a 2800? of course, that stuff is huge! its protrudes like mad! a quick heads up though, the extended battery for the milestone 1 and 2 can use the same extended batteries. Don't know about the droid x though. Anyways, no performance issues, no heat while charging. The back covers supplied by these after market guys are not the best quality though so if you are someone who loves dropping phones and what not would recommed getting a spare back cover from the guys you get the batts from.

No, I use my original charger and no complains or warnings by the phone. Not on the milestone 1 at least. In fact some times i use my ipod's adapter so no big issue. And it charges at the same pace as the stock, additional 1 hour or whatever. restart the phone to getting a proper reading as it shows 100% but upon restart its 70-80% since only the stock level is charged. I hear this app called battery left does great for calibration.
ALSO a thing to note, I only know of Seidio and Mugen to be relialbe after market battery guys hence their hefty pricing at times. The others claiming to have bigger batteries have cheated people with stickers and what not and usually end up underperforming and degrading considerably faster than burning paper! I remember 1USD batteries for nokias back in the day good for a quick one time run i suppose but these 1USD guys are now selling them with a better branding for like 20-40 USD.
Anyways Sedio and Mugen have facebook profiles and keep people posted on the latest on devices usually there, although its kind of sad since seidio have not followed through promised products at times.

Cool but as I suggested try and get them off the manufactures themselves as I have noticed some people complaining when purchased via 3rd party retailers.
Also another bud of mine had picked up one for the Nexus one, that phones back cover is a full one unlike the moto's and he too can vouch for the products positive performance. Either ways also check out some reviews from amazon.com for peace of mind.

Wifi was on most of the time, I was using my phone for the usual things. Occasionally checking socialfeeds, engadget, xda every hour or so and internet browsing I played 10 minutes of angry bids. Updated some apps and downloaded a few new ones.
Overall not a significant increase in battery life maybe an hour or so more from what I am used to.

You'll get a lot of replies from people saying they are delighted that with their battery life and claim that something is wrong with you.
From my experience with the Galaxy Nexus, I know that battery life with Android varies all over the place depending on how you use the phone and what apps you install. Install the wrong apps or get file corruption--that you can't pin down--the battery will drain just sitting there unused.
if you intend to keep the phone, I suggest getting a 12000mAH external power pack. Thanks Google for not allowing us to readily swap the battery.
Galaxy nexus 2 hour screen on time. Carried a spare battery. Nexus 4 close to 4 hours screen. I guess what I am saying is I can cope because I came from actual bad battery life.

My iphone 4s only lasts 8 hours with heavy use. Streaming movies, Sirius sat, games, web surfing.
This phone outlasts that so far with the same stuff.
But its terrible you should sell it.....

Heavy use...2 days get real you mean you barely touched it.
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda premium
GS3 battery dominates the N4 battery even tho it has the same 2100mah size.
I guess the AMOLED >>> IPS LCD in terms of battery drainage.
Sucks! I guess the Nexus 4 battery life will be only slightly better than my One X =(
I personally love the threads where former galaxy note owners and droid razer maxx owners ***** about battery life.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
I swear guys I normally use same apps and on Note2 I was able to get day and day and half with heavy use and teo days with light use..but this N4 just drains battery like theres no tomorrow. Esp browsing internet..youtube..and other stuff that pulls a lot of data... The only way I can save battery is it i put brightness to almost zero and turn off wifi and data completely. I have all the normal stuff syncing and not often...facebook pulls data every 2 hours and other apps as well. I really love this device but WHY WHY WHY Google/LG decided to have non removable battery. I RESPECT Samsung so much more because they give you removable and decent battery and also give you SD card option which I can live without but its nice to have. I guess you get what you pay for.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
GS3 most certainly does not dominate....
Amoled is only more efficient for blacks. Every other color it displays uses more power on AMOLED vs LCD. In fact, white uses 70% more power in AMOLED displays than LCD.
Watching 1hr video on Netflix over hspa+ at full brightness today dropped my battery from 80% to 29%. My galaxy nexus with the same use would have dropped maybe half of that.
Does that sound normal?
I'll be able to check if I have a defective unit pretty soon. I have a RMA for my earpiece speaker not working, but I'm literally stuck on a charger at all times, lol. I honestly don't really care about the crappy battery life, I still love this phone!
On the plus side, it seems to charge as fast as it loses charge, lol

Getting 3.5 hours screen on time here . with sync on , GPS on , screen 75% brightness. No issues here ,battery's great !!! " tweaking battery is waste of time . try letting it die charge it while off then another hour while on then pull charger , ( if anyone replies with letting die is bad your wrong , and u can send me all the links u want your still wrong
User error. You left a phone that has a massive 3100 mah battery for one with 2100.
My battery seems to be fine, previously I had a GSM GNex with the extended battery and my N4 has done just as well based off my usage.
I remove it from the charger around 7 a.m., use it all day for text, calls, browsing, emails. When I get home at 6 I am around 35-40% so I charge it for about 45 minutes to get me through the evening and then charge all night.
This routine has gotten me through virtually every phone I have had with a few exceptions (Treo 750 and SX-66 come to mind)
4.5 hours of screen on time is my average so far. Roughly 50% better then my Galaxy Nexus. Other than GPS remaining off, I haven't done anything special to conserve battery life. Not sure if I'm the exception, and I do wish I could swap the battery, but I can't complain too much.

Wait until new phone syndrome wears off.
You've only had your phone 3 days, and your still flashing new roms, which sucks up a lot of juice. Let it settle for a few days.
Also a 4.7" display sucks down battery. My phone last all day no problem now that I've had it for a few weeks. First week it wouldn't last 6 hours... because I used it for 6 hours screen on constantly.
hello,
i'm using a galaxy s4 since 3 months now but i have a problem since this week.
my phone looses signal at some point. nothing that i know that can cause it. it doenst turn back when activating airplane mode and then deactivating this mode.
and when i turn of the phone it turns on to the standard galaxy S4 logo and then samsung logo but then it just dies.
i have to connect it to a charger and then it works.
also my phone doenst give an announcement when my battery is emptY. it sometimes displays 15% on battery and then it dies. when charging the battery icon displays and the battery is completly empty?
i looked at my battery and it is a little bit swollen and i only use official charger at night from samsung and during the day one of nokia
anyone else with this problem?
I had the same issue. My battery was also swollen.
Replacing my battery solved the problem. At least till now (fingers crossed)

I´m experience that too. My battery is going slowly... Every new charge theems the phone lasts less... Battery issue?
I have experienced this during my Galaxy W days. And samsungs centre's technician told me it's because I charge my phone while using it for hours, and it's straining the battery causing the gradual swell. Since then I never plug my phone while using it and until now my s4's battery is still good as new. My phone's 4 months old already.
FYI.

I'm sorry but this doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe it's Samsung's was of "diverting" the fault to the user. The battery should not swell because you're using it while charging. I've never had this issue with with my other phone, which had a very small battery by design and had to stay plugged in if I were to get any real use out of it. Over charging does gradually reduce battery life but no swelling.
I have also had this issue. Started a few days ago with random reboots and signal losses.
Has anyone taken it back to the shop? Will they want to keep the phone for testing? I just want to replace the battery and not have to send my device away for a long time. I need to know because it's rooted and if they see that the warranty will be voided. Phone is only 3 months old, this really shouldn't happen.
I think it's battery issue. Maybe Samsung spares on the battery this time... on s3 it was on memory.
I solved this issue flashing a Google edition romantic with a full wipe (formating internal sd). Take some days with this Google edition tom and battery drain stopped. This can be related to last firmware releases. Just guessing...

Battery on my Note 4 has always been great but as I'm just about at the 1 year mark of owning the device the battery has been dying faster and now in the last week when it gets to 25% it suddenly drops to 9% and I get a low battery warning, then less than a minute later it shuts off and when you plug it in it shows 0%.
Genuine Samsung replacement batteries are only 24.99 on their site so not a big deal but I'm just wondering if anyone else is seeing this at the 1 year mark.
You may have overlooked by title but root cause was localized to degrading battery capacity.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62810580
Edit: and here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63147881
2nd edit: the theory was raised that the battery degrading is being prematurely induced by leaving the phone plugged in overnight. My battery appears to be going strong but I've rarely left it plugged in for extended periods of time; minutes as opposed to hours after fully charged.

Not me. I've heard of other people with the same experience of getting only one reliable year out of a battery, but my original Galaxy S3 battery only just died a couple weeks ago. That's 3 years, I think, of reliable usage. Your mileage may vary, I guess.

I had the same problem with my Note 4. I got a Samsung replacement battery through best buy and it did the exact same thing at first but it seems to have "learned" that the new battery will last longer.
Now if only these rapid updates that sprint is pushing out will stop trashing my phone
