Battery - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 General

Battery on my Note 4 has always been great but as I'm just about at the 1 year mark of owning the device the battery has been dying faster and now in the last week when it gets to 25% it suddenly drops to 9% and I get a low battery warning, then less than a minute later it shuts off and when you plug it in it shows 0%.
Genuine Samsung replacement batteries are only 24.99 on their site so not a big deal but I'm just wondering if anyone else is seeing this at the 1 year mark.

You may have overlooked by title but root cause was localized to degrading battery capacity.

Edit: and here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63147881
2nd edit: the theory was raised that the battery degrading is being prematurely induced by leaving the phone plugged in overnight. My battery appears to be going strong but I've rarely left it plugged in for extended periods of time; minutes as opposed to hours after fully charged.

Type secret code *#0228# in the keypad (press quickstart 5-7 times, the screen will lock after pressing, but don't worry, unlock the screen and press until 5-7 times) and charge your phone fully. The problem will solve !

I noticed similar degradation a few weeks ago. So I bought a Mugen 8k battery. Problem solved. I now get over 12 hours SOT.

Damn man this was a great idea. My phone has been freezing and randomly restarting and getting extremely hot. Last night my battery went from 100% after a full charge down to 0 when I woke up. I was getting read to do a factory reset and thought I would try this and I think it really fixed it. So far so good anyway. Thanks!

You can flash AEL Kernel to last your battery better. Flash via recovery. Link download at echoerom.com, 7.8 is the lastest version.

Yeah I was thinking of that but in January I'm due for an upgrade and I plan on trading this in so I'm keeping it stock for now. I'm looking at the S7 maybe as my next phone. That's a BIG maybe though. We'll see what they come up with but it sounds promising.

Not me. I've heard of other people with the same experience of getting only one reliable year out of a battery, but my original Galaxy S3 battery only just died a couple weeks ago. That's 3 years, I think, of reliable usage. Your mileage may vary, I guess.

I had the same problem with my Note 4. I got a Samsung replacement battery through best buy and it did the exact same thing at first but it seems to have "learned" that the new battery will last longer.
Now if only these rapid updates that sprint is pushing out will stop trashing my phone

Charging issue

Hi guys...Every once in a while my phone seems to get stuck on 88% when charging, like i say usually it charges right up to 100%(i know that it drops to 99% as soon as the charger is unplugged)i usually charge my phone whilst its on so the last few times I've charged it whilst off and its always charged fully. But today my phone needed charging so i switched it of and started charging it. now it usually seems to take about 3 1/2 hours approx to charge,so after about 4 hours i pressed the power button quickly to see weather the 100% symbol was showing but it was still charging, after 6 hours the symbol suddenly came on and it read 100%. I switched on my tab and went to check the battery expecting to see 99%...But yeah you guessed it it was showing 88%. So this problem occurs weather the phones charged whilst on or off. Like i say this only seems to happen sporadically, the next time i charge it it will most probably charge up to 100% (99%)...Any thoughts anyone, its not a major problem but i'd be intrigued if anybody else has this issue.

You are now experiencing what alot of us galaxy tab owners have. It is a flaw with the galaxy tab's version of android. My tab sometimes does this. You need to play with pulling out the power cord, turning off the tab, pulling the power cord with it off, etc. and not necessarily in that order to get the battery meter back to 100 percent. My tab also goes to zero percent sometimes and the battery meter says it is not charging until I do the above steps.
Thanks for the response m8,so it just looks like we're stuck with the problem then taking into account Samsungs record with software updates.

yeah seems so, were the hell is that 2.2.1 update, mines almost the same i need to reboot alot of times for charging and correct batt to show..:-[
Charged it again today, after about 6 hours it beeped and the screen reported it fully charged 100%(by the way this is with phone on)anyway i pulled out the charger and it immediately showed just 89% charged. So i waited for the screen to timeout and go black and immediately pushed back in the charger, after about 10 minutes there was another beep i checked the screen and just like before it read 100% so i removed the charger and this time it read 99% charged. So it seems its just that final 10 or 11% that's left uncharged,im currently typing this message out on my tab and im on 96%.

I understood this issue/problem about the battery and I think it won't hurt giving it a try.

[Q] epic just went haywire - suggestions?

Been running Clean GB BML rom (latest version) since it came out and haven't had any problems. Battery has been decent (not grand but not bad), and its been pretty snappy.
All of a sudden this morning i take my phone off the charger, as I do every day, and the battery meter is basically just counting down and draining. The phone lasts about 2 hours and its practically dead. I charge it up at work and again the battery is draining like crazy. I popped the battery out and cleared battery stats, no luck at all. Battery is smoking hot too.
So in an effort to hold on to juice, i fire up juice defender. This of course helps some, but still draining. And then it starts getting VERY laggy. A text comes in and the screen won't rotate for 10 seconds after popping out the keyboard and things like that.
I haven't installed any new apps in the last few days. I really haven't done anything unusual or different than I normally do.
Any ideas what might be wrong? Battery gone bad over night? Phone is actually dying?
I'd rather not have to flash a new rom, but of course if i have to i will.
help! lol
You might want to try odining to stock, rerooting, and reflashing cleangb.

I had this issue, except for me, it started to last 6 hours, then in December lasted for 2 hours, and before new years it lasted 30 mins. I went ahead and ordered an Epic Touch 4G battery and it's back to the norm of 12- 1 day battery. Do try Marcusant's advice, but if you ask ME, as surprising as it may be, batteries don't last forever and it sounds a lot like what was wrong with mine. They're made to last about a year or two. Buying a new battery won't hurt, and if its fixed with Marcusant's advice, having a spare will only help for when it does eventually die.

Well ready for a crazy unexplained answer. The phone seems to be working just fine today. Really really strange yesterday. I'm still going to get that new battery since I get a free one from BB anyways.
My crappy chinese battery that I bought on ebay a year ago is dieing on me, the phone just shuts off randomly. I don't mean shuts down from low battery, I mean literally the screen goes black and it won't turn back on until I pop in my other battery. Kind of annoying, especially when it says I have like ~60% left

That use to happen to me on my bad oem after I kept trying to turn it on past the 30 mins. Also another good indicator of a battery not holding charge is if you notice its got juice, and when it "dies" on you, it claims to have none, then it magically charges in about 15 mins.

Be careful with that. They sent me these crap 1200 maH batteries. I went through 3 of them before 1 would work. I got fed up and called them and they said if I bought an OEM battery somewhere I can fax them the receipt and they will reimburse me. And they did. Got a genuine OEM from Ebay for $12.

I9505 problem battery

hello,
i'm using a galaxy s4 since 3 months now but i have a problem since this week.
my phone looses signal at some point. nothing that i know that can cause it. it doenst turn back when activating airplane mode and then deactivating this mode.
and when i turn of the phone it turns on to the standard galaxy S4 logo and then samsung logo but then it just dies.
i have to connect it to a charger and then it works.
also my phone doenst give an announcement when my battery is emptY. it sometimes displays 15% on battery and then it dies. when charging the battery icon displays and the battery is completly empty?
i looked at my battery and it is a little bit swollen and i only use official charger at night from samsung and during the day one of nokia
anyone else with this problem?
I had the same issue. My battery was also swollen.
Replacing my battery solved the problem. At least till now (fingers crossed)

I´m experience that too. My battery is going slowly... Every new charge theems the phone lasts less... Battery issue?
I have experienced this during my Galaxy W days. And samsungs centre's technician told me it's because I charge my phone while using it for hours, and it's straining the battery causing the gradual swell. Since then I never plug my phone while using it and until now my s4's battery is still good as new. My phone's 4 months old already.
FYI.

I'm sorry but this doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe it's Samsung's was of "diverting" the fault to the user. The battery should not swell because you're using it while charging. I've never had this issue with with my other phone, which had a very small battery by design and had to stay plugged in if I were to get any real use out of it. Over charging does gradually reduce battery life but no swelling.
I have also had this issue. Started a few days ago with random reboots and signal losses.
Has anyone taken it back to the shop? Will they want to keep the phone for testing? I just want to replace the battery and not have to send my device away for a long time. I need to know because it's rooted and if they see that the warranty will be voided. Phone is only 3 months old, this really shouldn't happen.
I think it's battery issue. Maybe Samsung spares on the battery this time... on s3 it was on memory.
I solved this issue flashing a Google edition romantic with a full wipe (formating internal sd). Take some days with this Google edition tom and battery drain stopped. This can be related to last firmware releases. Just guessing...

Battery charge values

Hi all!
I've some strange problems with mt nexus 4 battery values.
Today i had 59% of battery and i plug it to the original charger. After 2 hours i saw the battery with 100% charge value. OK. Nothing wrong here. I rebooted the phone and after that i had 84% of battery.
This is happening almost every time i charge my nexus 4.
I had stock rom with franco.kernel updater. Now i have paranoid Android with The same kernel.
Any idea about this?

Have you been dirty flashing a lot?
your battery reading needs to be recalibrated.... Charge full than use until it shuts down...than charge again fully, at 100% reboot phone & connect to charge again.....
You also can try "BatteryRepair.apk" from market..most of the time it helps to recalibrate..just install, open & follow on screen instruction....

I had the same issue with my previous nexus 4. Did you ever get your screen/display changed? Or do you charge your phone overnight? Do you rely on USB charging a lot? If any of those answers is YES, its probable that your battery has gone bad (as mine had)
I don't think that's the solution, but give a try to this free app from the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&hl=it
I always thought this problem was related to rom development but I'm not sure. It happened to me with CM11 at the very beginning in november, and then it just stopped. Since January I'm on slimkat, at first it didn't happen and then for a few weeks i noticed the same problem you have, now everything has been fine again for the last two weeks.

I'm gonna try that app. I rebooted the phone around 9am and now is almost finishing the charge. The battery lasts till tomorrow with my normal use of the phone, but i tough strange that every time i rebooted the phone, i lose battery % :s
Just try avoiding the charge to 100%->reboot->charge to 100% again for a few days.
Don't let it discharge till 0%, connect the charge when you have 1%-4% left and let it charge till 100% with the phone on, and then use your phone normally.

Please go through this thread. A couple of other members (myself included) finally deduced that if you ever have your display changed you NEED to get your battery changed as well. Trust me on this, get your battery checked once. It WILL be bloated. Also, if upon restarting there is a break in the battery graph and there is a significant drop/rise in battery level, that is another indicator that your battery is going.

I've been reading that thread but for example, what happens to me it's nothing compared to the first topic of that thread. I only miss sometimes 10% after restart, sometimes 5%, sometimes nothing. From what i understand, in that thread most of users with battery problem had like 80% and after reboot they only had 2%, or 0%. Thats different i think, but i'm not expert on this subject
Anyway, installed the suggested app and calibrated the battery throw the app. For now i have this data (Paranoid Android Beta6+Franco.Kernel.Updater r201):

Try Battery Monitor Widget from the Market - you can see what current the phone is pulling, and if indeed full charge is reached. There are also calibration tools inside - the app calculates the real capacity of the battery, for example. If it's a long way from 2100mAh it would be a sign you need a new battery.
Though like everyone else, I think it´s a software problem. With previous Android phones I had to be careful calibrating, flashing etc. With the N4 I've had no such issues in the year I've had it. That app can help you sort out battery calibration though.

This has been driving me nuts for ages, and now I just use the battery to transfer my phone from one charger to another! But to be honest I haven't tried anything to fix it as yet.
It started with my phone shutting down when I took a few photos - now, if my phone gets down to 80% I expect it to shutdown. It won't fire back up until I put it on charge.
Occasionally when I try to turn it back on, it wont fire up, and the blue LED comes on and stays on until I charge it or take the battery out.
Occasionally it will reach 50%, but that would be a rare occasion! I do still have the original battery, which is now over two years old.
It's a great phone - if only the battery would last longer than 10 minutes under use! It hasn't been rooted or anything - it is as I got it from new.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

A new battery is really cheap ( 15-25 usds) and probably would solve your problem.
There is no reason for this topic unless you have the original battery.

Your battery needs to be replaced..
Dial *#0228# this will reset the battery calibration. Charge it to 100%..
see if the problem still remains that means your battery is almost dead and expect a random shutdowns at anytime

I understand that the battery is probably past it's best, but it was the fact that it states that it has lots of life left, and then acts as if it doesn't that throws me. That's the reason why I have posted this topic.

I've done this now. Thanks for the tip. It doesn't seem to have made any difference though so it's probably just the battery.
I just expected it to indicate the correct battery level in the battery level indicator.
You live and learn! Thanks for the replies.
