I rooted my defy+, 2.3.4, deleted a few apk's and also factory reset+wiped cache+ wiped dalvik cache. I did this to install a CM9 ROM.
Before I could install the ROM, i tried to add a new account to the phone apart from the existing MotoBlur account, but there's an error: "The application Accounts(process com.motorola.setup) has stopped unexpectedly."
What could be the cause and solution? Without email on the phone I'm stuck!

I have the original Tmobile mytouch. Recently I thought of rooting it. I used universalandroot and rooted the phone. I then though of removing some stock apps which are not used by me. I used titanium app to remove amazon, IM and IMprovider. I was not aware that removal of the last 2 IM related apps causes issues. The mistake I did was I did not even back up these before uninstalling. After removing these I started getting messages which said com.android.process.gapps stopped unexpectedly. This happened each time I tried accessing gmail or any other google app and also while accessing market. I google the problem an read that this can be resolved by going to settings - applications and clearing data from each google related app and then ensuring sync is disabled and then late reenabling the sync. After I tried this, I was able to access gmail but gtalk and contacts still could not be accessed withthe same error. I therefore thought of doing a factoryreset which might bring the original apps back. I did a factory reset and cache wipe from android stock reboot options but when I rebooted the first message I got upon reboot is "com.android.process.gapps stopped unexpectedly". I tried to sign in into my google account to use the phone but am pretty sure the the factory reset has not resolved my problem. I am currently unable to sign in to the phone using the intial google account set up wizard. Everytime I press finish in the wizard, I get "The application Setup Wizard (process com.android.setupwizard) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". Does this mean my phone has been rendered useles???
Can some expert help me resolve this issue? I am a noob and have committed mistakes and need some help fixing them. The phone current has donut android 1.6 on it.
Thanks in advance for your valuable help and time.
Update - Solved
I have resolved the problem. I flashed the phone with sappimg.nbh which took the phone back to the initial state (android 1.5) and this causes the rooting to be undone and also reinstalls the google apps. i dont see the failures due to gapps not found anymore and all is well.
I flashed to the latest Overcome Kernel + Rom (2.1.2 and 1.4.2 respectively), after running fine on 1.4.0 for several days. I choose not to backup my apps as I don't have many and I wanted a clean start.
However, after doing wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache, then davik wipe (not sure of the spelling), then proceeding to install the 1.4.0 ROM then 1.4.2 update, my apps were still on my Tab when I rebooted.
Why is this?
Now I am getting errors with every app.
"The application xxx (process com. ) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
I have tried to factory reset and reinstall the ROM multiple times, but it doesn't seem to help. How can I get rid of everything and start from scratch with this ROM?

I had the exact same issue with my T-Mobile US Tab, and it wound up needing repair from Samsung. I sent it in, and they replaced a component on the board. When I got it back, it was back to the factory fresh load which is what I expected when I tried to wipe it to begin with. The process took almost 3 weeks, which includes the free *ground* shipping to and from the Samsung repair center in Plano, TX. Awesome.
[Q] Phone app crashes upon launch with "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped." (CyMod)
Device info: Samsung Galaxy S4

I've reinstalled CyanogenMod and the GApps ROM to no avail. Cleared the regular cache and Dalvik cache and the Contacts app and Contacts Storage caches. Nothing.
I'd like to be able to uninstall the GApps rom and try installing it regularly but I'm not sure how.
I can still receive calls and make calls from the "People" app, but the Phone app doesn't load. It doesn't even show a dialer. It just hangs for a second and loads the error.
I'll reset to factory if I have to, but how would I preserve a backup of my stuff without preserving whatever data is causing this error? Would I use Titanium or the ClockworkMod backup utility, and what would I do?
Thanks to anyone who can help.
Titanium backup will work. Don't try to restore any system data unless it is highlighted in the green font. If you try to restore system data from one rom to another you will see problems like you do now.

I had this issue with my Moto Photon. I found out after I rooted it and deleted the Yahoo contacts apk I received the error message. I don't have the S4 yet but maybe that is why your getting the FC? If you didn't delete any apk's then disregard.

I've installed CM7.2 and then flashed the 20110828 CM7.2 gapps. When I try to setup my Google account, it always tells me the password and user name don't match. I'm definitely using the right user/password though.
I've tried this with CM7.2 and MiRage. I've tried installing the ROM first, booting, setting up WiFi, making sure the date/time are right, then going back to CWM and flashing gapps... I've tried flash both at the same time... I'm clearing system, data, cache, dalvik, when I start over.
At a loss here... had this working a while back, upgraded to CM10, now trying to go back. I swear I'd recall dealing with this 2 years ago when I first installed CM7, but can't remember a fix. Any help is appreciated!
[Q] Please help recover my Contacts&SMS messages lost in updating Paranoid Android
-I've been using Paranoid Android ever since Nexus 4 was released, the last time I updated it was when they first released the Halo feature (not sure what version that was).
-Today, I tried to update to PA 4.4 RC1. I downloaded the latest version of the Mako rom and the GAPPs files. In CWM, I got the error message saying "no file_contextsset_metadata_recursive" when attempting to flash the rom.
-For some stupid reason, I decided to try "wipe cache partition" and "wipe dalvik cache" and then re-flash the ROM. However, that didn't work and now I cannot even boot back to my old PA version.
-I had to restore back to the unrooted state to be able to even access my phone again. (which does not have my contacts list and all saved SMS messages)
- At this point, I don't care about updating anything, Is there anyway I can just recover my contact list and all my (non-deleted) SMS messages? or are they already lost...
For messages yes, they are lost. I suggest that you install sms backup&restore or super backup from playstore to backup all your messages. For contacts, it will all be automatically restored after you logged into your google account. That is if you enable contacts sync to google account. If not, then, they are lost too.
