Stucked to original (and faulty) gingerbread - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

hello people!
I'm new to upgrading android phones. I tried to upgrade my u8800 pro from 2.2 to 2.3.5 with the original upgrader from Huawei. It did the job, but gingerbread doesn't work good. In fact, there is a major problem with wi-fi (won't work, always in "error" state) and some other minor issues.
I tried to downgrade to 2.2 original, I tried to reinstall 2.3.5, I tried to upgrade to ice cream sandwich but I always receive error in the installation proccess. My phone is not rooted.
Any solutions? Is there any way to completely format my phone to gingerbread or icecream? Or to make the upgrade to icecreamsandwich work?
Thank you!

Can you tell me your model # behind battery?

Looking around more, It seems I have the pro version and flashed the update for the non pro version of the u8800. Is this what I did?
If there an answer please link me to it. I will keep looking as best I can while I am at work.

Well nevermind, I tried to flash the orignal back and after even more research, I know the phone is bricked.
All it does is vibrate once when I try to turn it on. Does not detect when plugged into the pc, does not light up, nothing. At least it was free through work

Try this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844442

So as of right now, you HAVE to unlock the bootloader in order to install GB ROMs correct?

yes to my knowledge because you need the newest cwm which only works with an unlocked boot loader if anyone knows other wise please illuminate me to this as i would like to make a new guide
edit: actually i believe you can sbf the leaked ota from motorolla but not many people are doing this because if you try to revert to stock it hard bricks so this is the only way if u want to go back to 1.26 or 1.83 without a brick.
Wow, amazing work. Thanks for putting so much effort in!
I just got at AT&T Atrix that comes with 4.1.52, Froyo 2.2.1. Is the procedure going to be the same at this?
Thanks again.

it is the same procedure once you ota to 1.83 im not sure if it will work on previous versions also this is only for att
edit: your welcome im glad to see people needed and appreciate it
thanks for the hand here.
In fact, after wipe/reboot immediatly after system is up, the touchscreen and volume buttons don't respond at all, the only button responding is the power button....
That's weird did you have any mods installed before this?

are you on an att atrix if so make sure you start fromSTOCK and that you do not unzip the update if this doesnt work try one of the other roms same process should work as long as they are zips that install through cwm if still no luck flash to stock and send ur atrix in as a touchscreen malfunction its covered under waranty
Couple Questions:
I have Gingerblur installed on 4.1.83, how do I go back to stock 4.1.83?
Does this procedure also root 4.5.91 or is that done separately?
Thanks
To go back to stock there is a zip in the themes section I believe that will revert or you can SBF back to stock

MOD please link this in the how to's there doesnt need to be any more threads asking for a guide i will be updating soon and adding a video on how to sbf back and upgrade but for now the 50+ threads asking for a guide will find this sufficient.
If I install a CustomROM now, can I run an OTA upgrade when it becomes available? (I've got stock 4.1.83)
I'm just a bit scared to upgrade to CustomROM and become stucked to only other future CustomROMs.
You can't not directly from the custom Rom but you CAN sbf back to stock and it's update

[Q] Rom/Kernel for U8800-51, AT&T Impulse 4G

I come from the HTC Incredible, just trying to help out a friend.
I successfully rooted his Impulse using super one click, and installed CWM recovery just fine for the U8800-51. Next I was planning on installing a custom ROM and kernel, but it appears there are none for the U8800-51 correct? Because it is just ever so slightly different that if you flash a U8800 ROM it can/will brick it.
I don't believe it's a "pro" because it still has the MSM7230 @ 800MHz.
So, question is, are there any that support the U8800-51? I've searched around, and didn't find any. So I assume there isn't. Just making sure I didn't miss anything. This Huawei is quite different from the HTC devices I'm used to.
There is no custom rom as of right now.. We have been discussing here

Gingerbread For U8800-51
So, i flashed this rom update from Huawei, and it did not work (many have said this). A side-effect of this is that now, i cannot take it back or update to another rom, because i am unable to root this phone due to the e: drive not showing up when i go into recovery mode. Can anyone help with this??
I have:
ATT Impulse 4g aka U8800-51

Thanks!

To eliminate the random reboots u have to flash official U8800pro Gingerbread update, but u may lose 3G (im using MIUI 2.1.20 in my U8800-51, and in Chile with the U8800pro baseband we lose the 3G, dunno in USA, in Brazil they dont have this "bug").
Moved To Q&A
Thank you.
Can you put a link up for the Gingerbread update for the U8800pro? Also, is this OK to use on U8800-51(AT&T Impulse 4G)? And would I just flash it like normal with CWM Recovery?

all the AT&T phones (u8800-51) that tried gingerbread made a mistake.
there are many problems with it. network, wifi, bluetooth etc.
We are all waiting on a true u8800-51 root to take us to stock 2.2.2
there is one going around now but it is a non AT&T u8800pro rom.

I know that was a problem with a different ROM for this phone... everything worked except for data and wifi. I guess I'm a little shy to try it as there have been reports of not being able to revert back to Froyo.
Well so far its working on on the first testers phone the second Guy said he is gonna do it when he gets a chance to check it out so hopefully his turns out good

Useless Posts
Why do you guys even keep posting on here with useless information.... I keep
seeing the post over and over about the link to the GB download, and how it worked for 1 guy "who is HE ?" but you do not post the link up to the source.
Then somebody says "oh yeah, i am gonna try it later. will let you know how it goes"...... Then nobody ever posts back their progress. Some people come on here with a purpose of helping Dev's or other people to mod their phones.
If you are not going to follow through with your posts, or post useless information
with no links to what you are talking about..... DON'T POST anything at all.
Thanks,

Edit: I did it! Download this file and first update step 1 and then step 2.

(To start the upgrade I plugged in the phone without battery to the pc while pressing volume up and down)
Now, it is suppose to be downgraded, but it is not booting.. (just operator logo and reboots) but there is no bricking.. I am now trying to update another stock rom froyo posted in this forum.
Edit 2: Secondly, I installed http://www.mediafire.com/?kmh4qbd3v7dslc5 the same way, and its working! but it is u8800pro Froyo. But maybe we have more chances on getting 3g.

I downloaded from a chinese web a stock rom for u8800pro with baseband 203026 (same as u8800-51). I flashed it, and then restored all using clockworkmod files from u8800-51 (also, I replaced all files in pink screen and put the original image files from u8800-51). It worked great! my phone is now u8800-51 froyo again. But I still got no 3g.. Can this be possible? I replaced every file! whats the problem then?

Hi,
My phone came with the same version. It has DFP-189 SBF. You can update it to 2.3.6 by a full SBF flash. If you r phone is fully stock(no root etc.) then you can do that by simply choosing the correct SBF(MB526.AsiaRetail.**.DFP-1321) and flashing it and you will be updated to 2.3.6. There is one another updated SBF (MB526.AsiaRetail.**.DFP231) which I currently have and has different lockscreen and caller UI. You can find all the SBF here . Try by just flashing the SBF and you will be updated and your data will be still there. However should you face any prob you will need to do a data wipe from stockrecovery
But before doing any of that you should know:
1.) The SBF with DFP-1321 has BL6(bootloader version) and thus you won't be able to use any CM made for Defy, will have to use CM builds for Defy+.
2.) The SBF with DFP-231 has BL7 and thus cannot be downgraded to any of the SBFs!! And most imp: You can't root it! Why am I using it? Because phone was in service center and they flashed this SBF!!! :'(
need sbf

Hi, the link for DFP-1321 SBF given in the official thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386942) seems to be broken. This puts me in a spot since I'm made to believe it's not wise to flash a custom ROM without having at least one stock SBF I can fall back on, in case I mess up my phone somehow. I was really looking forward to flashing a custom ROM, and now this problem...
Could someone suggest any alternative link/SBF/method or better still, reupload the DFP-1321 SBF and post the link on the relevant thread? Thanks in advance...

Make a nandroid backup before you flash anything..
If something goes wrong, just restore your backup..
However, there might be a scenario when you cannot access your recovery (highly unlikely if you follow instructions),then you shall need your stock SBF to fall back to.

Restoring my stock backup [U8800-51]

I'm getting ready to restore my stock backup on my at&t impulse 4g (U8800-51) to 2.2.2 and I was wondering if anyone had an opinion of some tools I can use on a stock rom to make my phone smoother, faster, nicer looking, and/or more fun to show off.

I have this phone, but want to restore to Android 2.2, as well. However, I have no idea where this would be. I just upgraded it, w/the official 2.3.5 firmware update. Unfortunately, it's not working out. So, I've been calling my phone service & Huawei & frantically searching, online, for this "downgrade". Your post has been the closest to finding it. If you'd be so kind as to sharing...I'd certainly appreciate it.
Thx, I hope...

Just reviewed that post, which is a bit overwhelming. I'd really hate to make it any worse. My main concern is that it no longer shows a service network & won't connect the wi-fi. Also, there's no APN settings, even after I tried relisting, as "new". Everything else, seems to function, as long as it doesn't need any network/service...got any other advice?
Thx,
T

OK, since you've got this same phone, what exactly are you running, on it. If it's GB 2.3.5 or higher, does EVERYTHING work, correctly? I've been reviewing other forums, as well, which I've seen numerous issues w/upgrading. Are you familiar w/a method, of upgrading, by removing the battery & just connect via USB to PC? Also, should I leave my SIM card in/out, while upgrading?
Hope this isn't a bother...I'm just trying to figure out what's best/simplest.
Thx,
T
