Yup, I said it. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Well, deleting the .bin file does do something...it resets the battery stats. Wanna know what else resets the stats?? Charging your phone to 100%. So, whatever benefit you saw from deleting the .bin was a placebo effect. Don't get me wrong, deleting it won't hurt anything. But it doesn't help anything either, and it certainly doesn't calibrate your battery. The only thing that file contains are stats, such as:
1. info about wakelocks
2. info about partial wakelocks
3. info about screen on time
4. info about screen brightness
I'm tempted to get into how lithium ion cells work, but that is a boring subject. I will say that li-ion cells don't have a memory to them, so there really isn't a "calibration" process. I will say that if you have piss poor battery life, you should consider the following:
1. An application/process that isn't allowing the phone to sleep correctly (keeping this general)
2. Any SamSprint firmware or derivative thereof
3. Knock it off with the overclocking. If you wanna screw with frequency tables and voltages, or let someone else do it and flash their kernel, be my guest. But don't ***** about your battery life if you do
4. YOUR BATTERY!!!!
Wanna know how I fixed the ****ty battery life on my girlfriend's Epic? I bought her a new battery I nice new shiny Epic Touch 4g battery with 20% more capacity and BAM, 2 days of battery life easily instead of 4-5 hours.
Seriously though, so many things affect not only battery life, but battery lifespan e.g. age (many users have had this phone for 1.5 years), # of charge/discharge cycles, excessive heat or cold (I bet a lot of people keep their phone in their pocket or a purse, huh?), etc. And while there may be quality control standards in the battery manufacturing process, not all batteries are equal and it's very possible that a battery was well below its stated capacity even when it was brand new.
Anyway, I'm tired and I need a coffee. I'm interested to hear others chime in and add to the discussion. Flame on! jk

Crap! This was supposed to go in general... Mods, please move
This is what I've been saying all along. You put a battery in. You charge it. End of story.
All these people wasting literally hours upon hours on "calibrating" their battery are tools who should not be members of a development forum.

maybe if you drank your coffee you wouldn't make noob mistakes!
I saw you asked to be moved to general, that was my first question as well
Many people will argue that wiping battery stats is actually WORSE for battery life while using the same battery. After cycling perhaps. I think switching batteries requires a stat wipe though.

Lol! Hey at least it wasn't a completely idiotic thread like some of the people post in developement so you get at least 1 point for that... on topic... completely agree anybody that sees better battery life after Calibrating their battery just didn't use their phone as much after doing so... now maybe everybody will quit telling the people with bad battery life to calibrate and it will fix their issues...

Wiping battery stats has NOTHING to do with battery 'life'. It does however effect time from a full charge if charged from the epic itself.
What the file that is removed does it tell android what the battery level is for logging and status info. When something changes like the battery strength (age) or life change from the rom/kernel/tweaks then you need to delete that file or else it will assume the older setup is used as a norm. Android uses the data to tell the battery to stop charging at a level of 95ish% and also to power down at 5ish%. If these values are incorrect the phone won't keep a charge as log or power off earlier.

But this is right... sometimes if you don't clear your battery stats your phone still thinks you have, for example, say 75%, when you really have something less, like 50%. Thus when you charge it, it will think its charging to 100 from 75 rather than from 50. Leaving you 25% less battery or whatever and your phone will seem like its dying faster. Only because you haven't "fully" charged the battery. So in some cases, calibrating the battery by removing the file is neccessary.

Battery stats do nothing... I never charge my battery. I swap out with charged batteries. You can NOT make your power on time longer with battery stats!!! I've proved that with swapper batteries versus charging and wiping stats... It's a myth only because there is a file which tracks status. That file is rewritten to and reset everytime I swap batteries.
IT'S A MYTH!!!

This. The battery stats contain nothing about your battery percentage. Those who think that are misinformed.
I thought the percentage is directly related to the voltage left on the battery. So how could any stats affect that?

Look out! Here comes the Peanut Gallery! But seriously, my point was that most people don't stop and think for even a second that their battery might be the problem. If you have a 2 year old battery that you've put through the ringer and it you are getting ****ty battery life, you should quit being a cheap ass and buy a new battery. The Epic Touch battery is $18 on Amazon and a 20% increase in capacity. Kind of a no brainer. Unless you're a cheap ass. Or slow. Or you think that wiping a binary file will magically fix it. Or you're a cheap ass.
Just like other android smart phones even my Arc has a very short battery backup and at times it gets heaten up...mostly while playing games! The reason is obvious, i use custom kernel and push the cpu frequency to the hardware's limit. But to be honest battery backup on stock rom or kernel was not good either. So i tried few tricks and they worked out pretty well.
1. Try to charge your phone after shutting it down.
{My take : Your phone will not only get charged pretty fast but it also wouldn't get heaten up at times!}
Frequency : whenever its possible
2. Fully drain the battery and then put it on charging. Yha its quite same as point number 1 as the phone would be getting charged in the power off mode.
{My take : your phone's battery backup will increase if done at regular intervals}
Frequency : atleast twice a week.
3. Whenver possible charge your phone via usb cable (desktop pc or laptop)
{My take : some might have felt that the charger and the phone gets freaking hot while charging...well i did. Its cause of the varience in voltage supply. }
I myself tried this stuff and it worked pretty well for my Arc. Difference aint huge..but still its worth it!

1. Who will turn the phone off when charging? Remember that you CANNOT RECEIVE ANY CALLS while doing this.
2. This is not recommended twice a week, this must be done all the time in my opinion.
3. What's the catch with the USB charging?!
Anyway, as I saw your other posts, you're just trying to say a phrase in 3-4 replies which I find if offensive.
This [how to] guide is nothing but useless.
The method used by me as follows:
Try to avoid charging the phone when your battery is not in the red zone. Don't plug it into computer with the USB cable when you can use WIFI file transfer.
Remember that every battery has a life cycle of about 500 charges. When it will reach this point, it will drain faster and faster. So don't charge it for 10 minutes unless you're forced to do it.
I'm sure that maybe some links to other sugestions will emerge on this thread, but I don't care because this is what I'm doing with my phone and it's working like a charm. The phone I ditched for my arc S was a P910i which lasted for 5 and half years with the original battery, still getting 3 days out of it with normal use.
My laptop is 2 years and 3 months old and the battery still lasts more than 3 hours (new lasted for 4+). I keep it out of the laptop while on charger and I use it only when I really need it.
I hope this helps you!

You dont have any right to say any thing about anybody's work....cause you didnt try it yourself.! And you said about charging the phone when the battery is in red zone...well it seems you are the one whos repeating things...as i already said that! And the thing you said was quite useless about the laptop as it got both A.C. and D.C. transformer...which unfortunately no phone has. And hence we cant charge the phone after removing the battery (try it )
Amd for the record...i do the same things woth my laptop and it gives a battery life of 6.5 hours, the funny part being that the manufacture assures the battery to last just 3.5-4 hours!
SO JUST BUG IT!

1. He never said to turn off your phone while charging. He said to turn your phone off and then charge I.E. Offline charging. READ before you POST.
2. Rechargeable batteries are not meant to be drained EVERYTIME before you charge. Do that too often and you will damage your battery permanently. This information came from various reliable sources and not your opinion.
3. It has been reported, not proven, numerous times by members and developers that battery lasts longer when charged by USB. From personal experience I am pretty sure it does.
You are better off learning to read and knowing your facts before going on lecturing others about posting junk, because what you posted WAS useless crap.

I just tested what i will explain to you and i wanna share with you guys.
For me it works and i really feel an improvement with my battery life ( ~4 or 5 hours + ) and i think it is ok.
Now...what i've did...
1. Power on your DHD and let him to charge 8 / 10 hours
2. Unplug cable charger and power off your device. After that, when device is off, plug again charger and let it 1 hour for offline charging.
3. Unplug again cable charger, power on phone, wait till OS loading and start up, and immediately power off again.
4. Let the phone to charge again for 1 hour ( phone is power off )
5. Power on and let me know if you will see any improvement
IF AFTER THAT PROCESS YOU WILL FLASH ANOTHER ROM, ALL THAT STEPS MUST BE REPEATED.

I've found that all you really need to do is charge until currentwidget displays 0 ma draw, and restart once to let the phone top off the battery from the amount drained after the charge stops.

After that you will never need to worry about your phone's battery life again because you will be locked up and won't need a phone.
But seriously:

Thanks bogdy87, I love your thread! I could use an extra 4-5 hours as my battery only lasts for 4-8 hours!
thank you for your advise,i will try it by myself
Doing this will get you more use per charge, but 6 months of this and your battery will be shot. Charge limiters are put in place for a reason, lithium ion breaks down at too high of a charge. Your battery your choice, I get great life on mine and I just plug it in at night. Bump charging is short sighted. Personally I think this misleading thread should just be taken down before we get flooded with users that have ruined their battery or the voltage regulator on the board by doing this. What it essentially is doing is pushing a little more current into the battery before it completes its battery voltage checks.

Adaptive battery stats ROM
Some ROMS (Revolution) use an adaptive battery stats procedure which cuts out the need to go through the drain charge process. Just use the phone and it'll take care of itself. Battery drain is much more to do with use and processes than the battery stats file.
I have created this thread so that I can help people with battery drain. I will try to avoid the "too long didn't read" problem by making it as small as possible.
Battery Drain : Battery drain refers to a sudden and unexplained draining of the power from battery sources in an area of paranormal activity.
1)Charge Phone Fully to 100% Using your computer.
2)Restart and Go to CWM Recovery.
3)With the charger still plugged in, wipe battery stats and dalvik cahce (In advanced options)
4)Unplug and Reboot and you may see a slight decrease in the battery. Charge it again to 100%
5)After fully charged, pull out the power then use heavily until 0%
6)Now charge it up again and remove the battery.
(OPTIONAL PART)
7)Put it in a Zip lock bag and then in the freezer.
8)Leave it for 6 hours.
9)Remove the bag and wait for battery to reach room Temp.
10)Put battery in phone.
11)Use the phone like normal and make sure you drain it to 0% before charging in the future.
If this helped, do not forget to hit the thanks.
Nice guide. I hope it helps new users here.

If you get 6 days of battery you have no business replying in a battery drain thread!
You came here to point out something out to the OP which you haven't tried? Why didn't you try? Why did you then point out that his idea should be optional if you hadn't tried it?
How do you know lots of people haven't tried his idea which actually does help?
I've tried it and it does work - get used to the idea that you don't know everything 2010matej..
Again, you get 6 days battery 2010matej - 3 times more than everyone else on XDA so you have no business replying in this thread as your phone has never experienced this issue and you therefore are not qualified to speak on such subjects!
Couldn't have said it better.

it's work identically like this metod. but is faster.
Wherever I charge my Note 3 fully, even if I leave it on for extra 30 mins, unplug charger and reboot the phone, phone comes on to 98%. Even when I charge full and just unplug, it drains to 98% on idle in 20 to 30 mins. Whenever it gets to 98% then it stops draining. I believe I need to recalibrate?
I have tried everything I can but to no avail! Every good re calibration app with super reviews! Still nothing! Even Manual recalibration and FULL WIPE (Including Internal SD), tried total drain to 0% and switched off itself too.
Need suggestions. Cheers!
the battery will charge to 100% then turn off and allow the device to go down to about 95% before recharging back up. It stops you from overcharging your battery and destroying it, there is no drama with your battery from what you describe mine does exactly the same thing on both devices I have had

Thank you bhai! But, do you think it's MJ7 firmware? Battery is not as good as MI2, and earlier. And can you we flash MJ6 over MJ7? Since both have the new bootloader, it should work fine yes?
Mine does the same! 98% limit.
I get 10hrs usage before recharging again. :good:
Stop being so anal - . Battery will drop slightly, mine does it, as do many others in this thread. 100% to 98% is nothing. It's usually after 90% that you start to see the real battery life anyway.

Do you understand words have more than one meaning? - In this instance you "seem" to think that the term anal is used in a sexual context. Whether it's a miscomunication in language/Lost in translation or you are just too stupid/naive to realise.. I do not know. - So think before you start crying in a thread next time. A word you may say in your country may offend many here also -
-- As for the battery percentage question, I gave an answer for that, so stop being anal about it.
What you said is same as saying dont be an a**hole!! And second dont refer other people as being stupid/native just because you know 1 or 2 things!
About the battery % it isnt a problem. Its normal system fuction it happens to everyone including me. And I get 10hrs of use with single charge.
What didnt u understand, mr.Smart?!!

Calling someone anal does not constitute the same as saying someone as you put it "an a**hole!!" - I never called you stupid or "native" (Naive is what I said) I merely stated I didn't know if you were either of these you implied otherwise... I never claimed to know anything, So your point is moot. (Google it if you're stuck)
for the record ---
Noun
1.
anal personality - (psychoanalysis) a personality characterized by meticulous neatness and suspicion and reserve; said to be formed in early childhood by fixation during the anal stage of development (usually as a consequence of toilet training)

Now do me a favour and give up, Cause you're boring me.
-- Again with the battery situation, it's perfectly normal, It seems this subject has been hijacked by someone who has obviously got lost in translation and has disctracted the thread.
Stay away from Battery calibration Apps, they can play havoc with your phone also, at first they work but they always have a tendancy to mess up at some point.
Unless your battery is draining at a crazy speed I wouldn't worry too much. - You should be getting about 15-20 hours with an average of 3-4hrs screen time out of the devce with moderate use.
Sorry i mean stupid/naive not native.
Mate, there is no need for all these...
If im boring dont reply.
Next time try to explain without putting anyword to show or trying to make people feel stupid. This is my point.
We arent in english gLass and the thread is worldwide, just get to the point and move on.
Just that.
My battery is okay...I get 10hr of heavy use. 3g and bluetooth always on. My s3 had only 6hrs of heavy usage.
I dont complain of battery draining is normal for my usage.
Im also checking the wakelocks and batt consumption at night. Still in progress.

So moving on, you get a solid 10 hours with heavy use currently? - how is your consumption at night? - mine drops about 5% over a period of about 7-8 hrs roughly.
I average around 25 hrs currently with moderate use and WiFi on all the time

My Note 3 also drops from 100% to 98% very quickly even with no use of the phone. It also seems to drop to the low 90% range very quickly but then it settles down and battery life is excellent.Surfing the web seems to use more power than watching videos.I lose about 3 to 4% overnight.
I noticed my battery discharge faster after upgrading to latest MJ7 firmware. Before the update, my battery lasted very long. Hopefully samsung release a small update fix on this battery bug.
