[Q]Multi-tasking - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

can someone point me in the right direction. currently im using jellyblast latest version. but it doesnt seem to support multi tasking. like when im playing a game then when i recieve a message when i press the home button to read the message the game exits when i try to select it from task manager it loses my progress? should i change kernel? if so whats the best to use in multitasking? tia

If you like the rom then keep it as it is..
Just get some pop up apps from play store or use handcent sms which will automatically pause the game and show you the sms with ability to respond on screen itself..

but i really want to do is multi task on my phone. thanks anyway
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda app-developers app

Well, some HD games don't support pause in sgy. I mean when u back to home some games will be automatically closed..thats not a rom or kernel prob

Use some ram twiks,like v6.

nope...any tweak won't work for game multitasking.

Sorry,I was talking about multitasking app not game.

I didn't answered you directly, what I mean is that there's no tweak or app could increase sgy's multitasking capacity. it related with the ram size. our lil 290mb ram is very small to handle game and all apps simultaniously.

Ram tweaks?
Sent from a Super Saiyan's Phone

nope...most ram tweak are intended for lower ram usage. it means worst multitasking capacity. our 290 mb ram can't have that much multitasking capacity. even with my 512mb ram on my tipo, a HD games will closed when I got a call. if you want better multitasking stuff you should get something with 1 gb ram or higher.

good point hehe gues ill just have to bear with it then. waaah
anyway i read a post somwhere here in sgy section about supercharger v6 and adrenaline engine. can those be of any help with multitask?

If we use swap file or swap partition, will it be helpful for better multi tasking?

nope...it doesn't help at all. for anyone who using swap, please check into your swap usage. your swap usage is very small. it almost like it never exist compared to our ram usage.

How do you guys can get so much free RAM?
I suppose it is possible only with swap? Or with absolutely fresh installation of ROM with almost no applications?
Most of the time I have between 30-45 MB free RAM and I do not use swap and have a lot of applications, few widgets...

i tried it,, first it ask how much swap do you want,, its 200MB by defalut, and check "apply on boot"option
after save, this app create one file in your sdcard "swap.swp" its 200MB size
i am feeling a bit different from my x8,, its quite fast..
but i still dont understand how it works

That 200mb is "virtual ram"...it means your phone uses that allocated 200mb to increase the amount of ram your phone can have...but be warned, increasing the SWAP size will shorten your SD Card's lifespan...200mb should be ok...don't go overboard like I did and put 1000mb(1GB) ....but if you already enabled compache in CyanogemMod Settings/Performance, then using SWAP is pointless

Jelly Bean RAM Hog

OK guys after spending two days with the new Samsung official software I was wondering if anyone else thinks that its a RAM hog. I have to keep killing the apps in the task manager otherwise I see lag while opening apps and things. Anyone else think this? Or could this possibly be because I quickly loaded about 40 apps onto the device? Any thoughts? Personally I hope Samsung will just improve and mature the software and it will get smoother. If not I might grab one of those deodexed ROMs.

I heard that Android loads apps in RAM for faster use unlike Windows. So if you close them, it loads them again, and that causes more bettery use. So why don't you try the phone without closing apps and compare which works better. Some poorly written apps cause lag and consume alot of system resourses. They should be closed and better be uninstalled.

Get OMEGA 27. It is very snappy. Make sure you do a complete wipe meaning formatting system and reinstalling all your apps.
It is very snappy. Do a custom install and choose to install or not install V6 SUper Charger which always leaves 200 mb of free ram. Your phone won't multitask as well but it will keep everything fluid.
Although I optioned not to install V6, and everything has been perfectly fine.
YOu can always install or uninstall mods thanks to OMEGA FILES that comes with the phone. Highly recommended.

I just did a Google search of it and it seems that the quadrant score is fairly low and about the same as stock? Is that true and reflective on the ROMs performance?

Why are you worried? I stuck with Omega 13 for months. You should only force an update if you were:
1. Trying a test rom and then official came out.
2. Or if it has problems and a X.1 version came out.
Omega only updates every time a leak rom appears but that doesn't mean you have to update.

I haven't checked quadrant but the point of Jelly Bean is that it implements a better use of a GUI than ICS. So quadrant isn't going to take those kind of things into account.
Omega 27 is working better than Indies last ICS for me which was 13.1

quadrant doesn't mean a thing about how snappy the rom is.
Uninstall quadrant as it serves no REAL purpose.
stock odexed here, just cleaned up 300mb of bloatware. RAM at the end of 2 days is 600MB used, didn't cleaned up RAM. You better don't cleanup, it will just piss off the apps and will consume more juice.

High Ram usage is great. It means a lot of stuff is being cached and ready to execute in an instant when you want to.
What's the point of having a 2GB phone while only using a fraction of it...

Please unlearn those misconceptions about Android RAM usage.
Unused RAM is wasted RAM.
Android, like Mac OS and Ubuntu, wants to use all the RAM it can, because that's how it was designed to work. There are settings (in Android we call them "minfree" settings) to tell the system how much RAM to leave free and available, but the rest is designed to fill up as fast as possible and stay that way.
You're probably thinking "What's it filling up with?" That's a great question. After the system, graphics, radios, and any other tweaks to RAM are done loading, the rest is there to load apps into memory, right up to the point where the OS says to stop. Load the app as it's being used, and keep it there for the next time until it needs flushed to free space for something else. The more you use the system, the better it gets at keeping the right things loaded and ready to go. Think about how you use your phone -- you might have 100 apps installed, but there are a few you always are opening and using. Eventually, most of those apps will be stored in your RAM, simply because you're always opening them and loading them into the RAM if they weren't already there -- and "erasing" other apps that were there first. Loading an app from your storage takes longer, is harder on the battery, and overall worse than loading it from it's cached position in RAM.

OK... within a specific context we are both correct.
So let me make my context more clear.
Unused ram is wasted RAM... if that is the wording most accurate.
If the RAM of your device has most of your favorite apps in background running or cached... its better for the system... rather than constantly loading it fresh from NAND and pulling last computed data from cache.
Lag can kick in when an app that is currently running (such as top line games) needs more space and it has to wait on the os memory manager to clear out background apps that haven't been used for a while... ugghh
Recently for early GS4 ROMS with the camera crash issue, when RAM falls below 200-Megs... the memory manager is too slow to free up enough "used" RAM for the Camera app causing a very slow and laggy camera or worse reboot of the device.
One work around is to use developer mode and limit the number of processes to 4... thus a minimum amount of "free and unused" ram was assured and the camera would not load slowly or reboot the device when loading,
It seems like this whole unused ram issue will always be with android until we get phones with 4Gigs of RAM... yeah righ;pt

[Q] S4 RAM Question

Just have a quick question iv'e heard that on the s4 that touchwiz takes up a lot of ram from the 2gb available does that mean if i install another ROM will give me more ram to work with ?
Yes ,but Android is not Windows. Free RAM is wasted RAM. Without touchwiz and the Samsung bloat give you more space on infernal SD. If Android need RAM so the low mem killer kicks in and clean unused apps.
