No sound without headset

Hi guys,
can somebody please help me with the following problem?
Out of nothing my T-Mobile MDA Vario stopped giving sound with out the headset connected.
Every once and while it just works again, without any reason and the out of nothing it stops giving sound without the headset connected.

I have the exact same problem. I can only use my phone right now with a bluetooth headset.
I even tried to do a hard reset and nothing is fixed.
Can anyone help me?

Use the forum search engine - this is a very common issue.
The chip that switches between the built-in speaker and the wired headset very easily gets destroyed - in most cases it's short-circuit when you insert the wired headset into the phone. Nothing can be done to perevent this - except for NEVER using ANY wired headset (but a BT one instead)

Well, I never used the wired headset before. Only the BT.

well, sounds silly, but when i don't get sound without something plugged into the jack, i blow into the hole... that seems to work...
admittedly i can't use my stereo wired headphones anymore, because the radioshack adapter has a slightly bigger plugend that stretched out the insides... weee! (i use the adapter connected to another adapter that connects to rca cables that connect to a car amp...)

Sounds like your issue has to do with hardware but this happened to me once and it was a software issue. I had no sound at all, it only worked with a wired headset and I soft reseted mupltiple times and still nothing. What I did was soft reset it with the wired headset still plugged in and after it finished starting up I disconnected the headset and my sound worked again.

Thanks a lot guys! blowing the hole of the headset connector solved the problem on my htc prophet too! excellent!! (never would have thought of that, in fact i already was taking the phone apart LOL, luckily i found this post while doing it)

i guess i have the same problem....the chip is broken so every time i make a call....long press the green or call button...the speakerphone will be enable...

Kind of makes me nostalgic for the original Nintendo, with those cartridges you have to blow on to "clear the dust" from the connections. Chances were better it was just your spit making a better connection back then. I wonder if the same applies here...

Easy fix
When that happens - don't panic, just insert a thin screwdriver into the audio jack and wiggle it lightly. Helps if you have music or any audio file playing on your device at the same time.
Generally you get it when you pull out the wired headset and trip the switch, that gets stuck. Very common problem, everyone is always amazed I could sort it out on the spot within seconds. Try it. Just be gentle!!!!

In my case I don't have sound and the microphone isn't working. What Can I Do? Is something broken on the HTC?

when I have this problem I go to the comm manager and disable the phone for about 3-5 min then reconnect the phone. it works for me. the 1st few times it work for a day, 4days ect. now its been working going on 2 months.....(knock on woody wood)

I opened my Wizard, got to the phone jack, removed a tiny bit of dust from the inside, closed the phone, and it never lost sound again!
It's not that hard to open the phone, but if you're not very handy, ask for someone that works with this kind on stuff to help you.
I did this entire procedure in less then 5 minutes.

Dropped it: speaker dead

I dropped my HTC TYTN some days ago and since then my external speaker is dead...
so no ringing, TomTom directions or just any other sound.
vibration and calling works ok though.
Any ideas how to fix the sound?

Rear speaker - likely problem is that the push on connector has slipped off - relatively easy fix is remove back and re-seat the connector. It is seen here at the top of the photo (white block with red and black wire)

The front earpiece speaker has spring contacts which can become bent and loose contact with m/board - normally just need bending out a little. This speaker is more prone to faults though and might need replaced. Can be replaced with Motorola L6/L7 earpiece speaker (available here http://www.phatphones.com/mobile-phone-repairs-1.htm#speaker) as a close alternative to original. A more difficult fix as the motherboard must be removed:

Bought a small torx screwdriverset (€9,95) to open the TYTN... as you expected, the connector slipped off... reconnected and the TYTN beeps again.

LoL, yes that might well work for quite a few people, given that the cause is just a poor contact with the board. As far as giving folks advice though, I'm not sure that telling people to drop their PDA is advisable

If you have some basic electronic/electrical skills you could find a similar phone speaker from another model. So long as it is small enough to fit the balck plastic speaker housing. You would need to use the original connection block from the Tytn and wire it onto the equivalent speaker.

the speaker does not work while i wanna play song or do some thing else that should have sound, in the call i can't here the voice or speak unless i connect the earphone
but when i have a call the phone rings ( the speaker sounds, so the speaker works ) and also while I'm on the call, if i put my phone on speaker mode, the speaker sounds like the past,and i can hear the voice !
i rebooted my device, did hard reset, changed rom, but my device still has this damn problem

Take a look at your OEM hands free and see it has only one jack with 3 lines.
2 lines for earphone and 1 for microphone.
the set you are showing will not ever work on our S200..

I have the same problem with my s200. it has occured last week. I think its a harware problem because i flashed with original roms. the only trips i found its open radio fm and put to speaker. i made a morscript for activite speaker.

Same problem with my s200 since some weeks ...
1. With headphones everything works o.k.
2. Without headphones:
a) When the phones rings I have to switch to speaker mode to hear and can be heard.
b) mp3 or video audio can't be heard through the built-in-speaker.
This can be put to normal, if I turn on the speaker on the FM-tuner
or
put in a headphone jack and pull it back some millimeters.
So I think it's a hardware problem - maybe after using a normal 3-connector 3.5mm jack (without microphone-connector).
BUT: Does anybody of you two use the "S2P"-mp3-freeware? I'm not quite sure whether the "Pause playback when headset disconnected" is responsible ...

at the end last weak i opened the device
it was a hardware problem
the hands-free socket had a problem, i can't explain the problem well without pic, but i try it
at the end of the socket there are 2 adnexas , which should connect to each other, but they lost their connection, i fixed that and the problem solved.

Dude, can you please show us how we can fix this problem. I am having exactly the same problem. I accidently put in a normal two-ring headphone jack into my S200 and now its not playing any sound unless my headset is plugged in or I place it on speakerhpone. Seeing as you're the man.... can you please guide me through this? Pleaaaaaaaasssssssseeeeeeeee!!!!

I had the problem before, The following is how to fix it
1. use a toothpick to stir in earphone socket. try to recover connection of 2 adnexas on the socket bottom.
2. if 1. doesn't work, you have to open device, try to reset the connection. I attach some pictures about it.
3. if one of the 2 adnexas broken on socket bottom, you have to change the socket (buy new one). or you can solder 3 and 5 points in pictures. let your S200 is alway at speaker mode.

GOD, I look at this thread too late !! this ***** piece is a shame, I tried to put the connector at its first place like you but I broken it..... now I need to edit the value in registry to put the speaker on or off...I tried also to braze a new connector but it's too little !!! no way to repair this crap, anyone has a broken s200 and can send me the jack plug piece??? thats my last solution...
(pending this I will be glad to use your mortscript bosphhor that would be nice )

I also broke the grill, but I repaired it with a piece of copper that i took in the usb cable.

Bad mic quality (with solution and pic guide)

Lot's of my friends complained about dumb speech quality on my sgs2, currently on Cyanogen but with stock firmware too. With stock firmware i could disable noise reduction, which i had to do with every call, but it didn't make it really good.
Warning: The following will viod your warrenty and you can easily damage your phone! Just in case: i told you so and it's your responsibility, not mine...
Today i opened the phone (removed battery, sim, microsd), 6 or 7 small screws, with fingernail along all sides of the phone lifteing the two parts carefully apart, Being aware not to loose the plastic power and volume parts. I made the lower mic hole a little bit bigger, removed the rubber housing of the mic (lift it up a little bit and gently pulling away from phone) and made the hole a litte bit bigger (using a small flat screwdriver to access the inner part and a scalpel) , cutting away a little bit of the inside hole. After reassembling i used a paper clip to press the mic towards the display and the rubber piece to the bottom.
Now with picture guide, see page 2, thanks to speedys4 !
My friends asked me if i had a new phone after testing!
Finally this great piece of hardware does even phoning right!

It really doesnt.... it is just 7 screws and pushing a pin/small screw driver into the mic hole after you haver removed the mic guard and then refitting everything. (then making sure the mic guard is refitted properly once everything is back together by looking in the mic hole, you should see the entire hole of the mic guard and a little block inside which is the mic).
If your unsure how to do any of that, even after reading the simple instructions above, I recommend you dont take apart your £300 phone yourself...

You have helped make my phone so much more perfect!!! thank you so so much!! I had to use a stanley knife but hey ho it worked and only one scarred finger, but well worth it!!

I assume it also resolves the echo issue too? It's discussed in details here, disabling noise cancellation fix it as well.
I would really appreciate if someone does a step-by-step picture guide.
Edit: Anyone knows a ROM that lets you to disable Noise Reduction by default? I've already tried the fix in VillainTweaks but that didn't work for me.

i have the original samsung black soft rubber case, i had to make the charging hole bigger because even the small microusb connector wouldn't fit otherwise. so i made a bigger mic hole too.
i don't hear any echos.

You don't hear the echoes, but the people calling you hear their own echo unless you disable NR.

nope, calling works well for me, noone i'm phoning too complains. i'm on the offical cyanogen 7.1 with radio ki4 right now and there is no way to disable NR afaik...

All I did was enlarge the main mike to about 1,5mm and totally cover the noise cancellation mike.

I will get back rubers to microphones, and make bigger holes in both rubbers.
now its crystal clear sound

I had to do the same on mine: cutting rubber and enlarge the hole, now it sounds good.

I've tried the service mode option which is not a permanent fix and I don't find it good.

Nexus 7 Mic stopped working

I got my pre-ordered Nexus 7 16GB (from Staples) on 7/16 and everything worked fine until today. I just tried using Google Now and it is not picking my voice. So I went to Evernote to record Voice memo and it is not picking up anything either. I did Factory reset and not solving my mic issue. I think the mic in my Nexus 7 died? Anyone else got mic issue?

Mine appears to be dead straight out the box, not working in a hangout either :'(

Mine seems to be dead out of the box as well. Tried a factory reset which didn't help.

Its not the toggle on/off but I have fixed mine with a rather strange fix.
Put your lips over the mic hole and gently suck for a second or two, this fixed mine. If you tap the back panel you will see it is working slightly(on Google now) but after doing the suck trick fixed the issue. Hope it works for you.

Tried tapping on the back near the mic and mine doesn't register any sound at all. Tried sucking on the two mic holes which didn't seem to help.
How do you toggle the mic? I have searched everywhere for microphone options in the settings. I must be overlooking something.

My mic isn't non-functional, but it barely works. In order for it to register anything, I have to turn it so the mic is right in my mouth and practically shout.

Just got off the phone with Nexus support. They said that my tablet is defective and has to get returned for a replacement (about a week).

I just called Google and they are replacing mine as well. Luckily they do advanced exchange so I won't be without my new nexus 7.

I called Staples Customer Service this morning. They told me they will get me a new unit tomorrow and pick up my defected unit. Hopefully, I am not misunderstanding them. I am surprised they have stock to give me a new unit this quickly.

That is a strange way you figure out how to fix your unit. I love my Nexus 7 but don't love it enough to put my lips around mic hole and suck on it. :silly:

I love how simple it is to get people to suck on their tablets holes.

I found the problem, at least on mine. You know that small hole in the case that allows sound to reach the microphone? Mine doesn't have that.The microphone itself is still there, but the solid case prevents it from picking up anything usable.

Mine has the same problem and the NFC chip doesnt work.

Mic quit working on my as well. Purchased mine last friday from Officemax and everything was good (including the mic). Tried Google Now last night (as well as a few other apps), and the mic was not working.
Factory reset and back to stock did nothing to fix the problem. Going to exchange it today.

Same thing happened to mine. Google is sending a replacement today. I don't understand how it just stops working after a couple weeks like that. Let's hope the new one doesn't have that problem.

The microphone on mine stopped working as well. I couldn't talk to Google now. I popped the back off, and it worked just fine. There is a little rubber 'gasket' around the actual mic, and where the hole in the case line up, that can come loose, and cover the wee little pinhole.

My problem
I am also having problems with the microphone of nexus 7. I have observed two things. If i hold the device in portrait mode then the microphone works sometimes and sometimes not. And if i rotate it into landscape mode then it always works but then there is noise. Anyone else having a similar problem?

I tried the suction with a vacuum cleaner . It wasn't working.
But after a good look at a super video from Adam:
Nexus 7 unboxed the xda way
I noticed that you will not void your warranty by opening the back cover.
You have to be careful though, to not damage it.
THE SOLUTION:
- I opened the back cover from the top (where the camera is) and sides to get a better view
- use a small stick to gently poke the microphone (mine was slightly moving)
- then i pressed from top on that mic. and moved it probably 1 or 2 mm into the Nexus.
It's now working without any problem.
