No sound without headset - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi guys,
can somebody please help me with the following problem?
Out of nothing my T-Mobile MDA Vario stopped giving sound with out the headset connected.
Every once and while it just works again, without any reason and the out of nothing it stops giving sound without the headset connected.

I have the exact same problem. I can only use my phone right now with a bluetooth headset.
I even tried to do a hard reset and nothing is fixed.
Can anyone help me?

Use the forum search engine - this is a very common issue.
The chip that switches between the built-in speaker and the wired headset very easily gets destroyed - in most cases it's short-circuit when you insert the wired headset into the phone. Nothing can be done to perevent this - except for NEVER using ANY wired headset (but a BT one instead)

Well, I never used the wired headset before. Only the BT.

well, sounds silly, but when i don't get sound without something plugged into the jack, i blow into the hole... that seems to work...
admittedly i can't use my stereo wired headphones anymore, because the radioshack adapter has a slightly bigger plugend that stretched out the insides... weee! (i use the adapter connected to another adapter that connects to rca cables that connect to a car amp...)

Sounds like your issue has to do with hardware but this happened to me once and it was a software issue. I had no sound at all, it only worked with a wired headset and I soft reseted mupltiple times and still nothing. What I did was soft reset it with the wired headset still plugged in and after it finished starting up I disconnected the headset and my sound worked again.

Strangely enough this worked

Strangely enough this worked!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS!!!!

Thanks a lot guys! blowing the hole of the headset connector solved the problem on my htc prophet too! excellent!! (never would have thought of that, in fact i already was taking the phone apart LOL, luckily i found this post while doing it)

it works for xda2 himalaya..
just blow into it.. crazy solution that works

It worked on Compact (Magician) also
Hey, you saved my money... It worked for my Magician also.
Thanks a lot
AKa

i guess i have the same problem....the chip is broken so every time i make a call....long press the green or call button...the speakerphone will be enable...

Holy ****! this worked!!

Kind of makes me nostalgic for the original Nintendo, with those cartridges you have to blow on to "clear the dust" from the connections. Chances were better it was just your spit making a better connection back then. I wonder if the same applies here...
...I sleep now.

//too obscure?

Zetajunkie,
your solution is timeless. thanks a million dude. It still works when the bugger goes silent

Easy fix
When that happens - don't panic, just insert a thin screwdriver into the audio jack and wiggle it lightly. Helps if you have music or any audio file playing on your device at the same time.
Generally you get it when you pull out the wired headset and trip the switch, that gets stuck. Very common problem, everyone is always amazed I could sort it out on the spot within seconds. Try it. Just be gentle!!!!

Thanks!!
It worked for me with a thin screwdriver

Oh....my.....gawd!?!? but anyways if you have an O2 Atom Life... make sure you push near the bottom, cause thats where the button is.... gawd i hate when manufacturers do a dodgy job

In my case I don't have sound and the microphone isn't working. What Can I Do? Is something broken on the HTC?

when I have this problem I go to the comm manager and disable the phone for about 3-5 min then reconnect the phone. it works for me. the 1st few times it work for a day, 4days ect. now its been working going on 2 months.....(knock on woody wood)

I opened my Wizard, got to the phone jack, removed a tiny bit of dust from the inside, closed the phone, and it never lost sound again!
It's not that hard to open the phone, but if you're not very handy, ask for someone that works with this kind on stuff to help you.
I did this entire procedure in less then 5 minutes.

Headphones question for Fuze

So I can not stand the giant stock adapter that comes with the fuze and how you have to plug that in and then plug a wired headset to it to listen to music. I use little ipod headphones that go directly into my ears and sound great, but I am stuck using the giant adapter that came with the phone since the headset does not plug directly into the Fuze.
So I have a few questions.
1) does anyone have a headset recommendation for the fuze that plugs directly into the phone
2) see the 3 options shown at the bottom of this page -
Code:
http://stores.ebay.com/One-Stop-Cell-Shop_HTC_Fuze-Touch-Pro-at-t-gsm_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ562650016QQftidZ2QQtZkm
they all plug directly into the fuze with no need for the giant middle adapter I have been using that came with the phone. do you think any of those will work. Or do you have any recommendations.
Thanks for your recommendations and feedback.
TV,
We keep shopping at the same places. I bought the mini-usb stereo headset at the same time I purchased my pink rubberized case (the same as the one that you had to shave down).
It works like a charm!

Hello and thanks for the info. Do you have a link to the one you bought? Thanks!
ebay store: One Stop Cell Shop
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-STEREO-HEAD...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
thanks for the link - how do those feel in your ears. They look different then the traditional ipod headphones. Are they comfortable?
They feel fine. I don't wear them all day nor do I run while wearing them (I only run if someone is chasing me) so I suppose it's all relative. They don't fall out constantly like some nor do they feel like they are about to fall out.
The sound is as good as the OEM's from my past devices. The FM radio comes through as clear and sharp as it does with any traditional radio. No volume control on the wire, only an answer button, but I don't seem to miss it as the Fuze is after all at the other end of the wire, lol.
Like you, I didn't want to need the adapter so I found these right away. There may be others (better) out there now since the device isn't as new. FWIW, I have no idea what an ipod headset looks like.
HTH.
sorry about that - standard ipod headphones look like this -

i like the ones you suggested and for $12 they look fine to me.
Do you get sounds (phone calls AND MP3s) in both ears? My old HTC Wizard had sound in both ears, but when I use that old pair with the huge FUZE/Raphael block adapter, I only get sound in 1 ear for MP3s *or* in phone calls. I realize the phone call isn't stereo, but I like mono in both ears while on the phone.
The one I just purchased says that the phone and music work in stereo.
I purchased this one - http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-STEREO-HEAD...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
paid last night and before morning I received notification that they were shipped.
100% stereo sound
They are 100% stereo. Everything I have on my device comes through in both ears...FM radio, phone calls, media player, videos and dvds, notifications and reminders.
Everything works as it should as well when a call comes in, they switch to the call and back to the music when the call is over.
Yes, mine shipped very quickly also.
Highly recommend.

the speaker does not work while i wanna play song or do some thing else that should have sound, in the call i can't here the voice or speak unless i connect the earphone
but when i have a call the phone rings ( the speaker sounds, so the speaker works ) and also while I'm on the call, if i put my phone on speaker mode, the speaker sounds like the past, and i can hear the voice !
i rebooted my device, did hard reset, changed rom, but my device still has this damn problem
so i can't understand, is it a software problem ? or hardware ?!
help me plz .. how can i solve it ?!
this make me crazy
Take a look at your OEM hands free and see it has only one jack with 3 lines.
2 lines for earphone and 1 for microphone.
the set you are showing will not ever work on our S200..
sorry if I understood wrong..
I have the same problem with my s200. it has occured last week. I think its a harware problem because i flashed with original roms. the only trips i found its open radio fm and put to speaker. i made a morscript for activite speaker.
s200 speaker problem
Same problem with my s200 since some weeks ...
1. With headphones everything works o.k.
2. Without headphones:
a) When the phones rings I have to switch to speaker mode to hear and can be heard.
b) mp3 or video audio can't be heard through the built-in-speaker.
This can be put to normal, if I turn on the speaker on the FM-tuner
or
put in a headphone jack and pull it back some millimeters.
So I think it's a hardware problem - maybe after using a normal 3-connector 3.5mm jack (without microphone-connector).
BUT: Does anybody of you two use the "S2P"-mp3-freeware? I'm not quite sure whether the "Pause playback when headset disconnected" is responsible ...
thanks guys
at the end last weak i opened the device
it was a hardware problem
the hands-free socket had a problem, i can't explain the problem well without pic, but i try it
at the end of the socket there are 2 adnexas , which should connect to each other, but they lost their connection, i fixed that and the problem solved.
I'm having the same problem!!
Dude, can you please show us how we can fix this problem. I am having exactly the same problem. I accidently put in a normal two-ring headphone jack into my S200 and now its not playing any sound unless my headset is plugged in or I place it on speakerhpone. Seeing as you're the man.... can you please guide me through this? Pleaaaaaaaasssssssseeeeeeeee!!!!
I had the problem before, The following is how to fix it
1. use a toothpick to stir in earphone socket. try to recover connection of 2 adnexas on the socket bottom.
2. if 1. doesn't work, you have to open device, try to reset the connection. I attach some pictures about it.
3. if one of the 2 adnexas broken on socket bottom, you have to change the socket (buy new one). or you can solder 3 and 5 points in pictures. let your S200 is alway at speaker mode.

thanks you very very much for guide!!

Headphones Causing Phonecalls, Musicplayer Problems?!?

I have been experiencing this ever since I got my Droid X. I have researched it and found a little about it on some other forums. It seems like the Droid X's headphone jack is not a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack. Its the standard SIZE but doesn't have the normal 3 pins. The Droid X has 4 pins. The extra pin is used for music playback control and/or for a "headset" microphone. I can't get seem to find any official information from Motorola about this at all. The official specs just say "3.5mm headphone jack".
You're like "So what dude? Who cares?"
The problem is that most headphones (like the ones I have tested out) have the standard 3 connector pins. This means they don't fit exactly right into the jack, and can apparently bridge other pins in an undesirable way. What's that mean? For me the symptoms are simple:
-with the headphones plugged in, if I wiggle them, my phone tries to make a phone call
-Alternately, if I have music playing, depending on the player, the playback pauses / resumes. I'm not sure if its detecting the "headphones unplugged" event or the "control button pressed" event.
On occasion, this makes using my headphones on my Droid X really god damned annoying. The other forums I had read basically said you just need to buy a 4-pin adaptor. Radioshack didn't have any, and referred me to the internet.
Has anyone else experienced this? If you're feeling curious, try to reproduce it. Do I just have a screwed up headphone jack?
My headphone jack has been friendly to all of my headphones and adapter cables
However, I do have a pair of the iPod Touch 4 pin headphones with mic and controls, and the controls are screwy at best.
Do your headphones have 4 conductors like this:

Or only 3?
I had the same problem on my original Droid. I would be listening to Pandora with my phone in my pocket and then it would start a media player in the back ground and play another song over the Pandora station. I noticed of I twisted the headphone jack it would skip songs or stop them. I rooted and went with cyanogenmod and that has fixed my problem.

My iPod headphones are like that. My others are just the 3 conductor and they have no problems.
The iPod headphones act funny, volume up dials the last dialed phone number lol
I have this exact same problem on my droid 1. I figured I had to try to jam something down there to get it to work, but If there is an easier way to fix this I am definately interested. My headphones only have the 3 connections, so do I need to get the 4?
I guess no one has any ideas?
I have no idea, my regular 3 pin headphones work just fine, no errant phone calls or weirdness. It could be the jack on your phone is 'off' a bit and the one of the contacts think it's keeps getting signals.

Apple Earphones w/ Remote and Mic

Will Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic work with motorola defy?
I mean will i hear music normal? i had apple ipod shuffle earphones and they worked gread. not sure for this one with remote.. has anyone tryed?
Check around here, I've posted my findings. I'll let you find your answer.
I've tried them and yes the earphones and mic work flawlessly.
The buttons however are somewhat erratic. During a call, it sometimes work. But when I'm not on a call, it never worked.
I suggest you try the P series of Meelectronics headphones. I use Meelectronics M9 and the quality for the price is awesome. I ordered the M9P (P is at the end of every model that has microfone), can't wait to try it out.
On their website it says that many Android phones are supported (Defy is supported).
Phone Version Device Compatibility (designated as the P version)
M9P review. Other can be googled.
Well, i have some Apple In-Ear Headphones, but nor the Microphone to the Remote works correctly. The Microphone does not work at all, phone does not recieve any signalling from the headphone, the only thing is pressing middle-button produces a short circuit detected by the phone. Remote does not work correctly, middle-button does nothing at all and + and - buttons sort of double presses-hold the call button, so in some apps you can change tracks. In PowerAmp you can change to next track by pressing + or - button. In stock music player, pressing those just toggles play/pause and fire the music app.
I readed a lot about this and its something to do with the circuitery inside the remote, made to work on iPhones and iPods and not well understood by android phones. About the mic, my theory is that it does not work because of the resistance of the microphone inside, checked connections and should work, also tried with differents headphones w/mic and they worked....
definitly you should try them before, if you're planning getting those, maybe you're lucky and mic works like arvs0z and use "Headset Button Control" App to fix the issue about controls.
EDIT: Got them working almost flawlessly
Removing some resistors from the remote, i got the center button and microphone working, the only problem is that the microphone has very low imput gain, its almost unusable, got to get it VERY close to the mouth to get a very soft signal in phone. BTW the center button works almost prefectly, but + and - dont work at all.

My question: my Defy have only stereo (3-pole) jack, or why i can't insert conector completly?
Thanks 4 answers.
sorry for my english
Defy has a 4 pole jack and that's exactly how my headphones' jack looks like (it's because of the jack position).

What version of UE headphones do you have? Did you ever get the microphone to work?

Headphone jack borked... sound in one ear!

Anyone have suggestions of how to troubleshoot a potentially faulty headphone jack? Sound is only coming out of the right earbud and nothing on the left (even after twisting and bending a bit). I've tried using multiple sets of earbuds and they work in other devices properly so I know they aren't the problem. And yes, I've pushed as hard as possible and they were fully inserted.
Check your ear?
That happened to me a couple times. Just turn the volume up all the way while playing music for a couple seconds. Worked for me...

Make sure it's plugged all the way in, the headphone jack is pretty tight and you kind of have to jam it up in there.
Also make sure your not using a mono adapter or something.

Does your earphone have microphone? Try to use earphone w/o microphone.

It's definitely all the way in. Tried turning up the volume and no success. I've tried plugging in/out about 50 times to see if maybe a contact wasn't connecting internally. According to Wikipedia, the left sound comes from the tip of the plug whereas the right sound comes from the ring around the plug in between the two insulating rings. It would then sound to me that the tip of the plug isn't making contact as it should. Any thoughts?

Take the back cover off and see if you can notice any solder joints cracked.
This happened to me when I used earphones that had an inline microphone.
Try some headphones or earphones without a microphone

The one white - iPhone headset : only one side sound
The one black : to the speaker : same problem as the white.
But when i moved the jack around, sound came normal?!
I don't have any pairs with a microphone so that can't be the problem. I also took the back off and check the solder joints and everything looks good even when pushing and prodding a bit, no sound came out of the left side. Could possibly be a broken contact inside? Suggestions on how to fix a broken contact if that's the case?
I blew into the headphone jack and it started working perfectly lol. Odd... didn't know old school Nintendo game strategies still worked.

Same here....
headphone jack is jacked....sound only comes through right ear. Tried multiple headphones and they are all plugged all the way in. Going back to Office Depot tomorrow!
So what i did was take the back off and taped down the flex cable so it wont move... it messes up a bit time to time but until i buy a broken one and do the swap this works out for me
Solved it
Hi ,
I had the same issue , moving the jack inside a little bit made it work , but as soon as I let go it starts to lose audio from right cup
I opened up the nexus 7 back cover. there wasn't any noticeable crack in the soldering but this definitely felt like solder was not applied properly or it had cracked (notice that the audio jack can move quite a bit when plugged in)
here is what I did.
There are 3 connections soldered on the module and there is a wire strip.
my issue was in the right earphone so my problem was in the middle one (upper on on the left side)
First I just heated it with a solder Iron it worked fine for about 2 weeks. then the issue started to show up again.
This time I added a little more solder to the point and that got it working, been working fine since then.
If it still gives you issue, you can unscrew only this part and solder it from the bottom too. there are pad there too.
I hope this helps
I realize this is a very old thread but, I just encountered this issue on my old one m8 and I can say that blowing into the jack did fix the issue. Thank you!
