I have neither, but all I can say is that I'll never buy a non-nexus phone from Samsung. If you want good software, wait for the nexus, but if you want good hardware, the S3 would be for you. Personally, I feel that only good hardware isn't what all a person needs..

I have both. Nexus is rooted, S3 not yet. S3 manages it's power a lot better. Nexus must be rooted to achieve decent battery life. Hardware is much better on S3, but I wouldn't have a problem going back to my nexus either.

Every review I have read says the Galaxy S2 beats the Nexus and the S3 is so much better than the S2 so pretty sure the S3 is better than the Nexus..
I don't have the nexus but the S3 is really sweet. I came from the Razr which I still have and use from time to time but this has better battery life than I thought. Also the camera is really fast, no delay! So far the only complaint is the radio is not as good as my Razr but from what I read the nexus is just the same!
I had both deal breaker for me was no storage on Nexus, camera and battery life. Sgs3 is much better in those departments.

Thanks for that info. Let me make sure I understand, the Nexus has not sd card. What was your typical battery life not including extended battery?
I got both and I prefer my gs3 is slimmer and camera just kill the galaxy nexus, ics touchwiz is not the bad, and now we got a pre cm10 on our gs3 night lies for cm9 and aokp m6,so I'm sticking with my Galaxy s 3,another reason is space unless you getting a cdma one the gsm one didn't cut it for me 16gb is nice but not enough, I had a 32gb iphone and got used to taking the alot pics so I would recommend you the gs3

There is always something better coming, but that something better always come late since we're in the US.
The S3's bootloader on Verizon is locked. That right there makes me want to keep my Nexus. I'm new to Samsung anyways. Only had my Nexus for a few weeks now. I've played with the S3... its a sweet phone. The screen and camera are amazing! But I'm content with my Nexus for now.

I don't have a Nexus, but I've played with one and it's certainly a great phone.
I'm an AOSP-addict, who has never once been satisfied by a manufacturer's ROM. I would crack-flash a buggy build of CyanogenMod rather than have something like Sense/Motoblur.
However... The TouchWiz on my Galaxy S3 isn't so bad when rooted and debloated. It's good enough that I switched back to it from the buggy CM10 ROM I had on it.
They're both good phones, but it boils down to how badly you want AOSP and updates from Google.

I wouldnt say that my Sprint GS3 is that much better than my GS2 Epic Touch.I think the screen on my Epic Touch might be better.Other than this they are almist the same.In Qudrant GS3 scores aloms the same in FPS tests(i know GS3 has higher res) it beats GS2 by low margins in others, and in some tests GS2 scores higher.
Is GS3 better?Yes,but not by much. Now international quad core Xynos version is probably a lot better, and Korean quad core with 2gb of ram is the king of phones at the moment.

I speak for my self but ever sense i bought Samsung Behold 2(RIP),i loved Samsung phones mainly because of rought build quality and Amoled and dont even consider other phones(I do like Xperia's only thing missing is Amoled).
I own Epic 4G-best GS1 variant,Epic Touch-best GS2 variant and now GS3 on Sprint(this time Sprint version doesnt stand ot from the rest),but i love them all, even my original Epic still holds its own with ics rom.

Going from a S3 to a Nexus 4? Same size phone, IPS screen. Don't know why you would bother unless it's going to be a beater.
From the looks of it the phone looks much more elegant than the s3. I'm tired of having my phone creak all the time. And official Google sounds really nice especially after using my nexus 7. Aokp Roms on s3 are nice but mine all have issues

I'm coming from a T-Mobile S3. I don't think I will notice that much of a difference in screen size. The AOSP/AOKP roms were always a little buggy and had bad battery life on my S3 compared to the touchwiz roms. And since I hate TW and love vanilla Android, the Nexus 4 made a lot of sense.

Exactly. I have bad battery life as well with aokp. Only way to fix it is by flashing kernels but I have to do that every update and its just getting way too crazy to have aokp + more than 2hr screen on time. And with aokp my phone is always so hot. Nexus 4 sounds pretty good.

I am. My reasons why?
-Pure Google
-Quad-Core
-No more buggy ROMS
-Latest and greatest Updates
-More elegant in my taste
-More dev support
-More customization (easier bootloader to unlock, and as I said before, the dev support will be ahead of the game)
-WORLD PHONE. Going to be graduating this year.. If I travel for college or etc, my phone is always reliable.
I'm coming from a Sprint S3. Ideally, I think I'd like to try another S3 of the GSM variant. But I will probably be getting the new Nexus.
I'm seriously debating it myself. I love my nexus 7...my first Nexus device. I love my S3...just not sure what the real benefits would be. I love AOKP but putting that on the nexus, wouldnt that be defeating the purpose?

Just wondering if anybody has switched their S3 for the Nexus 4? and what are your thoughts?
I am going to selling my S3 and obtaining a Nexus 4 simply because it looks amazing, and vanilla android is a bonus..

Reason not to sell the S3 for the Nexus 4
Good point, can a mod please move this to the Nexus 4 forum?
I have both. The nexus feels and looks better. Other than build quality I can't see why I'd keep the GS3. My nexus has a slight rattle. So it will swapped for a replacement.
The GS3 doesn't feel as nice to hold. Even the GS2 beats it for feel. The os is better and I prefer the camera on the nexus. I think it is quicker too. It feels sharper.
It is all down to personal preference. The GS3 is still amazing, maybe its the fact the Nexus is new is the reason I prefer it. The expandable storage is nice and the removable battery, but I find its not as important as I thought it would be so I'm not missing it.
I'm gonna wait till next year's nexus. Between the SGS3 and the nexus 4 there isn't enough difference in hardware to justify a change.
You want to have android 5.0 when it comes out? Me too, and I will get it with the next nexus.
Similar screen, same battery, same camera, also quad core, etc. I'm very happy with the SGS3 right now.
16GB is definitely not enough for me.
The nexus 4 is indeed tempting, but the s3 now has some rather useful features in the latest 4.1.2 update. Multiwindow for example, is great for watching YouTube while browsing. Sure, vanilla android will probably get multiwindow eventually, but that wouldn't happen until Key lime pie, at least.
Believe it or not but I "require" some of these touchwiz features now, and these features are not in the market, they could be but don't nearly come to what the quality Samsung have.
Never thought I would say this but I love Touchwiz haha.

No surprises there, after years of using third party launchers and most recently Nova Prime, I'm now using TouchWiz for the first time on the S3 after owning all previous versions.
Well I got the Nexus tonight, and I absolutely love it, still got my S3 but she is being sold tomorrow, I don't think I've ever loved a device so much.

I don't need to read the Nexus 4 specs to know I'll never consider it, because Nexus = No SD slot and that's why I've crossed Nexus devices that haven't even been thought up yet off my list of possibilities.
Touch wiz features are amazing. I'd get a nexus as a second phone as I don't like pure android as much as jelly bean with touch wiz. Probably I'd use a lumia as a second device rather than a nexus though. The only bonus to a nexus is the extra smoothness gained through less bloat of unnecessary fat that I hope Samsung will trim away in the next few updates.

I've had a Nexus S for about a year now and it's the perfect phone for me aside from one little detail: expandable memory.
I'll probably be upgrading soon but I want something that:
-has a Removable Battery like the Nexus S
-at least 1Ghz processor
-between 4 and 5 inches large in screen size
- Expandable Memory (Or at least 32GB, but only if it's the only choices)
- Customizable (not too complicated to root and some good choices for Stock Roms)
Any recommendations?

I bought a Huawei Ascend G300 for my daughter for $134 AUD (about $140USD). Checks all your list. Rooting was easy. Stock roms are only up to ICS, Custom CM roms up to JB 4.1.2. Phone seemed quite zippy and has a fast reboot which is way quicker than rebooting a Nexus S, Doesn't have its own forum on XDA but MoDaCo has a G300 forum with everything you need. Battery life is amazing,
If you want to stray outside of the Nexus family, the HTC Raider is an underrated phone. Some development still going on, and it is LTE ready.

Agreed, no brainer here either. Better everything, including build. And for the price, for me it's more of a why not.
Although the Note 8 is a pretty damn good tablet all around.
Having a better screen and speakers that are actually useable makes all the difference for me. The build quality seems better to me. I sold my first gen Nexus 7 on ebay months ago because I couldn't watch things on it or listen to music without headphones. Upgraded speed is also a big plus.
I would say yes.
The 4.2 update for the nexus 7 was really bad but the 4.3 update fixed alot of that. That said the new nexus 7 has a great screen and performs much better than the previous model even with the 4.3 update.
IMO, yes. Definitely worth the upgrade for me.
The speakers is what I love about the new 7!

I dropped my old N7 a couple months ago so I've been dying for another e-reader. bought a nook HD+ and quickly returned it since the build on it is crap.
So glad I ended up returning it in the return window because this tablet blows it out of the water and it isn't even a competition. It's an upgrade in every conceivable way to the older N7: physical specs including feel and build quality, software, and hardware.
This is one of those updates where literally everything is upgraded almost across the board, and considering my old N7 was having serious lag issues, it was a no-brainer upgrade for me. There isn't anything that is immediately at another level than the old N7, but when so much is upgraded and refined (screen, speakers, no lag, RAM, processor, build quality) I personally couldn't resist.
I also had the 8 GB N7, and even though I don't use much internal storage at all that was still too little, so moving up to 16 GB should help a lot.
I used my original all day every day for business and then reading at home.
This model is certainly snappier and the added resolution really helps for docs etc during a meeting.
