Hi, I have android 2.3.5 and I would like to go to 4.0, but do not know where and how to choose the rom and cf-root (I've read that I need to be matched to each other)
Maybe they are in a safe and reliable sets?
If you got example: xxjvt. Then you flash the xxjvt cf root kernel, you will find them all in cf root thread.

Here xxjvt http://db.tt/sJ2uJB3F
And the cf root http://db.tt/9jugXMKM
Or search cf root for your rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108

May I know which custom rom u chose? U can try x-bean 3.0 + Semaphore 2.5.0s it got gapps included http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1829256
It may be that u have 2 flash custom 2 or 3 times
Otherwise flashing gapps is the same way u flash a rom. Think it was install from sd card then choose from sd card something like that and navigate to it

When will 2.2.1 be released in Australia?
Too hard to answer... ha ha ha
Prob before the US
So easy to do it yourself anyway.
Install CWM with Odin, then go to Docs kitchen and install the non-wipe version.
Bonus it shall work and is no dodgy Kies involved plus you get a real kernel, Speedmod etc and can convert the entire file system to ext4 aswell... Worth it just for the huge speed increase etc from stock..
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
it will be realeased in mid 2011 but in not going to tell u the real realease but i will be telling later on in the year
whats the difference between the Australian models and the Europe models? Cause I've istalled a Europe firmware and then Darkyy's ROM, works fine.
well it usually depends on what carrier your on. for example if your on optus u might get an australian open app. or if your on sprint you might get a wi fi hotspot option in the settings. the possibilities are endless... ill keep u updated on these changes

Looks like while you were looking there I was looking here http://romkitchen.org/sgs/?s=generator
downloaded the file but don't know what to do with it .it's saying I need clockworkmod recovery to install feel lazy to do the prosess. I thought it would have been a odin flash and thats it.
Still might just go for the original xwjs3 flash unless someone know an odin flash way for romkitchen?
Why is pup still captaining the one day team, let alone even in the side and why hasn't hilditch been booted as a selector when he couldn't pick his nose properly with a torch and pair of needle nose pliers let alone pick a cricket team?

Ok! Flashed xwjs3 with xwjpy modem and jp4 csc. works a treat!!
congrats

Cwm files are flashed from the phone. Just put the file on your sd card. Then download rom manager from the market and from it flash cwm recovery. Then boot into recovery mode. Might need to boot into recovery a second time for the cwm recovery version to show. Note that this only works if you have recovery mode 2e. You can tell which version you have when in recovery mode....it shows it on top. If you have 3e just flash cf root with odin. After all is working you can select the rom on your sd card from cwm recovery and flash it. I always download roms from my phone and flash with it as well. Haven't had to use a pc or odin fir months now. I'm currently on Doc's rom JPY but who knows about tomorrow

Does cf root work with xwjs3? I have zip file, do I unzip or leave it ziped when putting on SD?? Does the file need a name??? might give it a go!
So first
1.flash cf root
2.put ziped file on sd card (asuming)
3.install clockworkmod
4.flash clockworkmod recovery, boot into recovery.
Once in recovery what do I do in recovery?
5.select rom and flash
cheers!
Really need to know which is the best modem and CSC for us Aussies. I'm on an Optus reseller here up in Brisbane and get pretty shocking reception most of the time.
wow..i didn't noe dat we hv an Aussie Thread Here..its Cool..Niwae Juz Wanna Share Wif Ya Dat I've Upgrade Mine Using Darky's Rom 2.2.1..but it seems like its sucking up my batt..& wen I run up the Quadrant benchmark,my device end up in either 3rd or 4th..unlike the others on 2.2.1 ending theirs up on the top..Juz Nt sure wer it when Wrong..But Overall Its Still cool..

You've pretty much got it. But in number 3. it's actually install 'rom manager' However not sure if cf root works on js3. I'm currently using jpy but it may work. It's just a kernal so if it doesn't just flash another compatible kernal. You will know if it works by using the 3 button method to enter recovery. If you see 2e at the top then all good.
For the zipped file you don't need to unzip. Just leave it as is. CWM recovery has an added option which allows you to select zip file from sd. you to select zip file you want to flash and you don't need to change the name. My files are names darkys...., docs... etc. You can rename them if you want.
When you flash cwm recovery from rom manager it creates an update.zip file on your sd card which normal 2e recovery uses to get you onto the cwm recovery version. And then yes, just select rom, theme, or anything else you want and all done. I currently have a folder on sd named 'flash' with subfolders for firmwares, kernals, themes, apps and other.
I just flash away anytime anywhere I like and if I'm not happy I just flash back. CWM also has a backup function which is literally a life saver. Titanium is good for apps but rom manager / cwm backs up everything. I've had problems before and from cwm recovery selected restore and all good again.
For anyone with a Telstra SGS i suggest having a look at this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907149.
Been using it for about 2 weeks now and seems to give reasonable battery life compaired to stock Telstra ROM.
Can somebody explain to me why is Wi-Fi connection so unreliable? I've recently upgraded to 2.2. release, which made the Wi-Fi connectivity worse. It got that bad that I can't connect to the Wi-Fi network in my office, but my other phone (iPhone 4) deosn't have any issues connecting. Samsung has spent too much developing their 3d TV's instead improving their mobile phones quality.
Here is the 100% working method. No chance to fail. Unless you make a mistake somewhere.
Download Stock ROM from below link. (thanks to Chainfire)
With bootloaders: http://www.multiupload.com/IZLCKQ3VJC
Extract the zip file to a folder. There after extract the .tar file to a folder.
Open Heimdall (you should know the drill how it works) place the files from extracted folder in respective fields .
At the place of modem, do not use the one from extracted folder. Use the link below for JPZ modem
http://www.multiupload.com/F9Z64KG9XO
unzip the file and extract modem.bin, copy in phone.
Now hit START.
After completion, reboot & immediately go to ODIN 3.1.7 download mode Oops! that’s how I worked (Heimdall & then odin ). Flash dbdata.tar as PDA (NO repartition) found in the below link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073854
Reboot and relax a little. As you over worked
It will boot to Ginger 2.3.3
Still you cannot flash custom ROM’s for that you got to reboot in Odin one’s again.

Put in PDA and start. It will reboot and there you are ready with your flashable Gingerbread SGT.
For OVERCOME ROM 2.0 beta (Thanks to Sir Alterbridge) download the below file
http://www.multiupload.com/QW65A4Q794
copy the zip to internal SD
go to recovery, choose zip from internal SD …. Flash!

Would be better to title the topic better. If you was browsing teh list it would look like you was asking for help in flashing. It would be much better to make title more descriptive and tag it with [GUIDE] and take away the "??" from the end.
Probably best tu number or bullet point, make paragraphs to separate steps etc, would give it more structure.
btw, you do know that the overcome rom that is linked to in this guide comes with a very complete and precise guide to follow itself anyway?

there was much more then just backup like rooting and stuff. i believe people who jump to ginger all ready went through all that process. i think Appbackup is working like charm plus you can save the apk's and flash to any device. or may be titanium is better not much into it though.
Ganjdroid, i was going through your Miui post. it's not that simple to get them working you know? i wish if some one can incorporate those files in a ROM and make it as a ready made dish Ginger without MIUI is like nothing but Froyo.
Sorry but there just isnt any need for this guide really. The overcome one isnt complicated at all and you can just skip past backup up upps section if you need to.
Plus you have no need to use heimdall and then Odin, you can just use Odin.
You also say to use a specific modem file but dont explain what version of tab that file is for, somebody may be using this "guide" that doesnt want/need that file.
If you want to successfully and accurately flash to GB stock or Overcom custom you should follow the proper guide in the Overcome thread.

partition check and un check play's important role also. people just ignore it sometimes while flashing Kernel's with Odin.

this is simple and for all those who think their tab/phone do not connect to Odin.
plug in your usb to the pc. go to device manager. uninstall the samsung driver which is already there. refresh the drivers or unplug and replug the usb cable. will search for the driver and install it again. there u r connected to the ODIN.

Download and flash through odin DDLC2_ODDLA2_DDLC2 or DDLE1_DDLD1_DDLE1. Even I had problem with DDLA3_DDLA2_DDLA2.
Hope it works now.
hmmm
Im really confused, because if you flashed merruk kernel and it did not work then just download recovery kernel..
put phone in download mode (power+home+volume down)
plug phone to pc while odin is open
choose recovery kernel on PDA option (don't check or uncheck anything)
flash it and it should work... lol

It was happened to me before.. I have no choice but to flash to a fresh STOCK ROM with stock Kernel.
The SOLUTION would be ODIN. Go to Doky's thread and select the latest version of your firmware based on your country - download and extract.
Here's his thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800
Now, download ODIN if you're not having it yet. here's the thread - credits to OP : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1464775

i tried DOKY73 sirs stock roms but they didnt work.
thus, my and my friend YASH 98 modded it and now it works perfectly....
simply use these instead of the stock on DOKY73s thread.

from where can i get a flashable zip of stock kernel??????
Idk. Search...
Try to get a boot.img of stock kernel.
Then search for Sgybicwm.zip in general section. Put the stock boot.img in root of your sdcard and flash sgybicwm.zip via cwm. You are done.
Any other boot.img flasher like faqbly wont work. I just tried it with hells fusion 50. it has a stock kernels boot.img inside stock folder of the kernels zip. Get that and sgybicwm.zip

Ok.
Here is what you need to do.
Download a stock rom from dock73's thread from dev section (its a sticky one, so no trouble in finding it).
Then download odin3 v1.85 from same thread.
Get samsung mobile device drivers.
Install drivers first.
Then extract all those zips (rom and odin ) in a separate folder.
Open odin.exe.
Then switch off your phone (pull battery if nothing works).
Press Volume down + Power + Home Buttons All at same time
You will be I'm download mode.
Press volume up and connect your phone to pc with data cable.
You will see a yellow signal on odin screen. Dont change anything and just add those files from the firmwares you extracted in the folder.
Csc.tar.md5 for csc
Modem.tar.md5 for phone
And
pda.tar.md5 for pda
Click on start and it will show a pass to you when completed.
Hope that complets all for you.
If you still dont get head over to docky thread.
And see 2nd post.
Hi,
I have a basic ROM in my SG and I used this procedure to root the device using the superclick.
Now I have super user but when I go to recovery mode (with the volume+home+power) I dont have the option apply zip from sd card, I only have an option update zip from sd card which is not working. I want to put cynagone rom in my device, how do I do it ? I understood that you have to go to recovery mode and go to appl from SD card but I just dont have this option...what can I do ? I do have the ZIP file for the ROM.
Thanks
First i would do it with Odin. Its the safiest way.
You choose a root kernel and add it in "pda". After that, click on "start" without pit file and repartition.
Then you phone restarts and you can switch in cwm. You will see then all points^^.
Kill all kies process while flashing kernel
here you search your kernel:

Thanks, but how do I know which ones are working with kernel 2.2 ? My galaxy's hardware is 2.2 and beside that I want to put the jealy bean and not CF... Can you give me instructions on how to put the Jealy bean from that start ? I found a lot of procedures but non that compatible with 2.2 or that can explain how to do it. I have a guide for 2.3+..can I use it ?

You've unzipped 1 too many times.
You need the .Tar file.
Flash this in PDA section of Odin and you're good to go!
I would recommend formatting cache, data, system and preload in CWM first.

Good idea is to KEEP a copy of the stock rom for these little incidents... It is easier, and sometimes the only way, to flash the stock rom after a bad flash...
If you have the I9505 I would suggest buying Mobile ODIN... It makes flashing ALL roms so much easier... You do need to root the phone 1st though with PC ODIN. After that you can flash the tar files through it or the custom rom zip files... Mods can be flashed easily too.
since no one has suggested a nandroid backup, i am going ahead and doing that.
i have found it to be the most helpful when things go wrong
