What phone are you coming from? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says, which device are you migrating from? What's making you take the switch? Other than the price of course
I've got an OG Galaxy Note and I'm considering getting one assuming I can get about the cost of the N4 for my Note when I part ways with it.

GNexus

HTC evo 4g that I have for two years. My contract is up and I have always wanted a nexus phone as I am sick of waiting for updates and trying new ROMs that don't function 100%. I was originally planning on getting a gnex but with the price point of this phone I can't go wrong.

Coming from a Motorola Backflip. Terrible... terrible phone.

galaxy nexus
looking forward to a bit of a refresh. it is too bad that they didn't fit in a slightly larger battery, that would have made my day!
was tempted by the razr hd maxx but when it comes down to it, id get more annoyed at the lack of updates and dev support etc

Will be coming from an Evo 4g that I've had since June 2010. Switching from Sprint to T-Mobile and will try out using voip on their pre paid plans. So potentially will save $40-$50 per month while on a faster network.

The P.O.S. VZW Bionic

My htc desire z, I'll miss the keyboard, but I won't miss HTC no supporting it at all and also 4x RAM, 4x processors clocked at 2x speed, 480p to 720p, improvements all over
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app

I'll be coming from the Galaxy Nexus myself. Hopefully it's worth the jump. Can't afford to drop too much on the phone; so hopefully I'll be able to manage it when I sell the GNexus. In any regard, I think I'll jump back into development when I do.

HTC Sensation 4G. I'm rooted running paranoid android on 4.1.2 but the s3 dual core gets so hot and I want a pure Google phone. Benefits: s4 pro, wireless charging, NFC, beam, pure Google, 2gb of ram.
I only have 16gb SD card and i never run out of storage and I only remove battery during boot loop but holding down power button force shuts down so I don't consider those as down falls.

HTC Inspire. Fortunately running ICS

S3.
Jumping back on to the Nexus bandwagon and never, ever falling off again.

Had a Gnex but took it back because I didn't want to sign a stupidly long extension to my Canadian contract. Ended up with a free S2 this summer but now since Exynos sucks dev wise, I'm switching to N4.
Can't believe something actually worked out for me and now I can get this at a great off-contract price

[Q] Need to Replace Epic... With What?

My wife and I both have Epics, but she's dropped hers enough times now that the screen is totally cracked and it will need to be replaced... Rather than pay to repair it, I'd rather replace it... But with what? What's the best thing since sliced cheese that's available (or will be available shortly) for Sprint? Looking at the current stock of available Sprint phones, I might be inclined to go with the Galaxy S II / Epic 4G Touch if it weren't for the fact that I'm so unhappy with Samsung's dismal support for the Epic...
So what does everyone recommend? Is there something coming out just over the horizon that we should hold out for?
If you need something now, nothing.
But if you can wait a bit, the galaxy nexus should be coming to sprint.
The gs2 has better specs (sans screen) but the nexus is guaranteed to get updates unlike our epics

If it still works I would wait for the LTE handsets in 2012. The 800SMR coverage will be a big plus too.

I agree, I switched over to Nexus S 4G since I'm not currently eligible for upgrade through Sprint. But if I was, that new Nexus would be the way to go!!

you could always buy a nexus s 4g off ebay for like 200 bucks. then sell it on ebay in a few months when the galaxy nexus comes out for maybe 100 bucks. i hear the photon is pretty good.

For the people having second thoughts about the epic touch 4g

All I got go say is if you have a upgrade coming up soon this is the phone to get. If your worried about the lack of a physical keyboard trust me I feel your pain but after having this phone for about 3days already I can honestly say I don't miss the physical keyboard at all. This phone is so much earlier to root and install customs roms. The speed is incredible and with the right rom and kernel combo you can easily get over 6000 on the benchmarks score. Oh if your short on cash don't worry what ever corporate sprint store you go to they will buy back your old epic for 80.00. If you got an upgrade coming the touch is the way to go. Did I mention front facing video recorder. Well anyway it was indeed a pleasure being apart of this wonderful forum for over a year I hope to see you soon over on the epic touch forums. Take care.

Why would people update only to be stuck on contract for two years with no LTE? Plus the keyboard is still a need for me or a bigger screen the Galaxy Nexus sized screen is looking good for me. You mentioned it was easier to root and install custom ROM on the ET4G how exactly can it be easier than a one click root on froyo or flashing clockwork mod on gingerbread, then flashing a ROM in clockwork?...also with CM7(which is official on our phone now) we get front facing camera video recording also. So I don't really see the need to get an ET4G

Negatives:
-800x480 screen: So 2 years ago. 1280x720 AMOLED or bust.
-WiMax: They're not expanding to my area, so I'd rather go with the future LTE.
-Quad-Core phones are coming out. Higher performance ceiling at the same battery use, or even less with newer deep sleep modes.
My upgrade isn't until june, so I'll be going Quad-core.
While the ET4G is undoubtedly the best Sprint phone, I don't think it is worth using an upgrade on. The OG Epic is still a very good phone and is only getting better thanks to the great work of our devs. I will be using my upgrade on a quad core LTE 1280x720 monster phone. Probably the GS3.
Wait for an LTE device. Would be the best logical phone choice imo

Yuuuuuuuup; I've decided this as well.
I bought my daughter (15 yrs old spoiled rotten brat, lol I kid) the Touch. sprint had a nice sale + her upgrade which made it a nice xmas gift.
I've played with it some and I do really like the Touch; for me personally, there isn't enough of a hardware change to switch ATM

Galaxy S waiting on Galaxy S III
iPod Touch 3G waiting on iPod Touch 4G (Maybe...)
Playstation 2 waiting on Playstation 4
2D TV waiting on 4D TV
2WD Car waiting on 6WD Car
...
???
i was thinking about the white epic touch, but wouldn't use an upgrade for it, just the tax refund.
See a lot of people waiting on the GS3 but the 2 isn't that old, how long would it be till 3 comes out? Are there official mumblings of a 3 with specs n such or is this all just assumption?
No 4G in my area and who knows when I'll get it, not sure waiting on LTE is worth it.
*edit* also I wouldn't be using an upgrade if I did get a new one, just pay for it straight up. Store guys hate it when you get a phone without a contract though.

I just read that the galaxy nexus is coming out April 15th. Oh....decisions!
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
That's a tough call. Galaxy Nexus is an amazing phone, and should be available sometime mid april, the 15th if the rumors are accurate. As a launch day Evo 4G owner, I think it's time for an upgrade. On the other hand, the S3 is an even more amazing phone. HTC One X is potentially an amazing phone, but the latest rumors are saying it's only going to have a dual core on Sprint, so not really worth waiting for me. I need to know more before I can make a decision. If no news has come out by the Nexus release, I may just go with that.
Man i'm drooling over the alleged specs of the S3, but just like the rest of you, i'm debating between the Nexus in April and the S3 whenever that happens (i think the latest rumor is middle/end of June?) I really REALLY want some new mobile hardware, but i think the Nexus is old news. I just gotta summon the will power to wait a few more months!
I'm going to wait for the S3 especially if it comes with a 1080 display.

My arsenal includes an iPhone 4S, HTC One X, Play Store Galaxy Nexus, and GSIII. I'm hoping to get a call from Game Stop today that my Nexus 7 is in and ready for pickup, too...LOL.
I don't use the 4S anymore...I'll be passing it down to my wife so she can upgrade from her iPhone 4. My daily drivers right now are the GNex and GSIII, as I'm test-driving the GSIII and trying to decide if I'm going to keep it or the One X (I'm leaning towards keeping the GSIII and selling the One X...I won't think about selling the GNex until the next Nexus phone is announced). I've still got 3 more weeks to play with the GSIII before I can't return it, so we'll see, but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. I bought it at full price from Best Buy.
I do have to admit, though, the GNex with JB is my favorite.
stock nexus s. Waiting for 4.1.1 for it.

I flick between original, amoled HTC Desire (rooted and s-off) and Nexus S I9020 (stock). I prefer the screen and build quality on the former, and the storage (not relying on sdext and so forth) and ICS stock rom (updates) on the latter. I wanted the Nexus 7 no matter which phone I am using!
I have a Desire HD and am still 9 months away from an upgrade. Buying the N7 was an easy decision. Cheap, fast, portable, first tablet.
I'm not fussed about getting a new phone now - will happily wait until next summer.
I've got a rezound at the moment, but I'm upgrading to an S3 tomorrow, which is also the day my 7 gets delivered
I'm far too excited lol
Got an Xperia Play. Hoping i can play games on the n7 using it
T-mobile G2 (Desire Z for those outside the US).
HTC Titan Stable as hell and can do most of the stuff I need it to.
I'm still using my Nexus One. I figured the Nexus 7 would be a good choice because it has like, six more nexuses.
Samsung Vibrant, I still love this phone, but now playing with the 7 it is really dated.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I have a Galaxy S II at the moment. Now that I have the Nexus 7 I know for sure that my next phone will be a Nexus device.

Samsung Focus (spare), Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300 (main).
I had the Samsung Galaxy Note previously, it replaced my SII and my Notion Ink Adam Tablet. But it was too big as a phone and too small as a tablet, both great and bad at the same time IMO, YMMV.
Since hearing of the Asus MeMo 370T for $250. It's what I was considering, until it was cancelled and replaced with a lesser featured prototype, but supported by Google. It wasn't a long wait, so the SGS3 became the best phone option for me.
Galaxy Nexus, duh!
Motorola Photon and I guess it could have helped in my decision because I no longer want to wait for updates. While the Photon is a great phone I'd really like a Nexus phone as well, here is hoping that Moto/Goog is one of the OEM's chosen to make a Nexus phone this fall.
Still rocking a 4s, i just love it especially the apple tv stuff plus all the family have iPods etc etc

I don't really need so many apps... Just need a phone with good integration with social networks and emails so I can get work done but if the next nexus manages to get my attention, I might just stay with android.
Sent from my undervolted, underclocked, power saving Motorola Atrix.
I'd like the Atrix HD next, but if Motorola gives it the same half-ass treatment as the 4G...I'll have to jump on the SGIII bandwagon--and oh how I hate bandwagons.
I will buy a galaxy nexsus
For me it will either be the next Nexus device or probably an iPhone. I love the versatility of my atrix but I just want a phone that works right out of the box. That and with the atrix I've learned that updates are a huge factor for me.
I am already splitting time with a SGSII.
There's no other phone besides these 2 currently out there that even remotely interests me.
SGSIII IMO too big of form factor and costs are not justified even if it was smaller.
Galaxy Nexus - Hardware inferior to the SGSII. (yes the Nexus has better screen resolution, but I've seen pages load up faster on the SGSII and GPS lock on the SGSII smokes the Nexus).
On top of that I REFUSE to buy a phone without external MICROSD support. If the next Nexus has that then I'm in, but without it is a complete deal breaker for me.
Like I said other than the Atrix and the SGSII, there's literally nothing for me iut there and I guess that's a good thing...

I went with the SIII. I love it, but I still use my Atrix. Thank goodness for the Micro Sim adapter ha-ha. I will admit that I only use my Atrix when I am out doing something where I could possibly break or lose my phone, but hey, I still use it and like using it.
HTC One X because it is the only high end Android phone that uses IPS instead of AMOLED/PenTile (which is a horrible, cheat of a screen that I will not get again). Otherwise, an iPhone.
I've already moved on. And I can't go back even if I wanted to since my Atrix was stolen fairly recently.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
The next nexus phone, sIII, or one x. I'm probably not going to buy another Moto phone after this.
Whatever it is, its not on the market yet. Nothing out there looks like a big upgrade over the Atrix. At least, not big enough for me to justify switching.
Whatever is considered high end by the time my cellular contract is up in another 1.5 years.
/Why yes I'm on a standard Canadian 3 year contract. How did you know?
