[Q] Unlocking HTC EVO 4G for BoostMobile - EVO 4G General

I have never done anything with a phone before. My dad is an active member(dude0316) on here and I'm trying to figure out how I can unlock the phone he got me for the BoostMobile network.
My phone is an HTC EVO 4G with Android 2.3.5
If you can help me, thank you. Please don't leave any negative comments or tell me that I don't need to be on here because you're opinion won't stop me from trying.

Will the EVO work on Orange 3G Network?

Hey,
I'm from Israel and wondering if the HTC EVO 4G will work on old Orange 3G Network in Israel.
I'm currently using HTC Dream in Orange but I want to replace it with the new HTC EVO.
I didn't find the EVO's network specs beside the fact that it 3G competible :-(
Thanks in advance!
It won't work on your network..evo 4g use cdma technology meaning no sim card so were out of luck if only htc make a gsm version
Thanks for your answare mate.
I'll think I'll take the Desire instead
Will it work on pelephone?
it will not work anywhere in the world except for sprint in the USA right now. it is a cdma phone, which is only USA with verizon and sprint. and its 4g is wimax, which is only sprint in the US. so no, it wont work anywhere else but usa.
anybody know about the verizon samsung charge or htc thunderbolt being able to be unlocked and used in israel?
I don't think so. The US has a different network type than the rest of the world.
Otherwise I'd maybe have had the Evo 4G instead of the X10 and maybe the Evo 3D instead of my Arc. Well, maybe not, I liked my X10 and like my Arc And I'm a se fanboy.

this is very strange and i may need your help here.
i am using the Sprint htc evo 4G in israel.
based on the device i am connecting to data roaming of 3G network which is GSM network and not CDMA... why??
also i am not able to place a call or send sms, again the data roaming is fine and i can browse the internet just fine.
much to my surprise CDMA is actually available in more places than I thought.

Says in here there are many countries that a Verizon handset will work in, one of them being Israel.
Not sure about Sprint though.

Incredible on Sprint Network?

I have a Hero currently and would love a faster phone. The EVO is ok but too big for me. I would prefer the Incredible.
I know i can buy one for about $600 price does not matter. However I can not leave sprint. is there anyway known way to get the Incredible to work on sprint with full internet/MMS?
Just to be clear I DONT WANT THE EVO. I want the Incredible. ;-D
Please stay on topic. Im not looking for phone advice.
Thanks in advance!
No. Sprint won't add any ESNs that aren't native to their network.

getting them to register the esn is not an issue.
I would venture to say that if getting sprint to register the esn, your next task would be to flash a sprint prl.
Other than that I would imagine the phone will function with the currently available roms.

I would also need mms settings and internet settings and perhaps apn settings. I know nothing about how to do this yet.

Of course it is possible and not really that difficult although it does take a few hours to figure it out.
You will have to google for info and it will be scattered throughout the forums.
Good luck!
So if I copy all the NAM1 Settings with something like QPST from my hero And find a way to get them to use the new ESN/MEID Ill be golden..
I guess its time to talk to the Sprint rep.
Why can't you leave sprint? Might be cheaper to just pay the etf ($250 I think, or less depending on how far you are into it), and get the incredible at $200 on contract with VZ instead of the $600 for the incredible to put on sprint.
Welp
If you can stomach Sprint, then grab an EVO 4G and be done with it.
How I miss the days when you could use other cdma phones in vzw (not that i knew how to do it personally, but what are friends for?). Lucky you if youhave someone who will clear the esn for you. If i had connect like that at Verizon I'd totally have an EVO right now

I would Like to Do this also
I want to run an Incredible on sprint also... I am thinking about wiping the Incredible's ESN and replacing it with my Hero's ESN. If I accomplish this then do I also have to flash the PRI on the Incredible ?
Thanks,
Jay
I have an Incredible running flawlessly in Mexico, with Iusacell. It took me probably 5 minutes to get it running, following a Hero guide. You just have to dial ##PROGRAM and input all the changes there, the Incredible has no settings locked down.
I don't know if replacing the MEID(ESN) of the Inc is currently possible, you should check with the CDMA Workshop guys...
Has this been accomplished?
Has this been accomplished yet? I am interested in this as well. Perhaps we can get some steps? I know I don't want to get the EVO for two reasons: 1) the Incredible has an awesome form factor 2) I don't want to pay the extra $10 for 4G when I can't use it/don't need it.
This can be done, like "lamerto" I also have an incredible fully working on the Iusacell network(Mexico) and maybe the most difficult thing to do on this case is activate the meid on sprint(on Iusacell this things are easy) and maybe get the prl (in my case I can even download OTA way)
so the all the rest is a piece of cake, you have a hero, so you only have to read it with qpst, save or just copy all the parameters and then write it to the incredible (even the drivers are the same) and the only thing that is different is the meid (guessing that you're going to use the line that you have on the hero, on the dinc)
that's all this way you can have an incredible working on sprint(maybe you have to copy the mms parameters later, but that can be done even from the phone)
greetings
PD: sorry for my bad english
awesome thread. couple of guys on #htc-evo on freenode
have recommended the hong kong batteries.
I mean really, sprint batteries originate from that part of the world
anyway
luckily i have a spare 1500 battery (official) anyway. need a charger
solution though.
HTC Knight sounds like the Option...

My touch 3g fender insurance

I have lost my mytouch 3g fender. I have filed a claim with tmobile insurance. I was wondering you guys can tell what there replacing it with since they are no longer making the fender. i am guessing the mytouch slide.
Not sure for a lost fender. But people who have been having issues with the Froyo update have been given either a Optimus T, myTouch Slide, myTouch 4G, or a Vibrant.
No update for you, but here is a new phone?

So by given, you mean free and no contract extension? Is there any secret in getting to the right department to get this to happen?
Thanks

Yep...have a legitimate problem with the update, then just call T-Mobile customer service and tell them. They'll forward you to tech support who will try to help you get it back usable, and if it fails, they'll process an insurance claim.

Why change radios?

I currently have the .27_M radio and have noticed there is the newer .30_M radio. What is the advantage to using a newer radio and should I consider upgrading to the latest one?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
New radios aren't necessarily better. If you are happy with the wifi and 3g signals that you are getting, there is no need to flash a new radio.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
As mentioned above, if you are happy with your reception and battery life, no need to flash the radio. People will sometimes flash a different radio in an attempt to improve reception (and battery life related to reception). The "best" radio tends to be locational dependent. The newest one will not necessarily be the best for you in your area.
Some on here will say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" (which I tend to believe). But if you are having reception issues, it might be worth exploring.
Hi I have a unlocked bell htc desire z and I'm not really sure if its 4g because on the bell website it says 4g. if it is 4g I may need to change my radios once the 4g networks are launched here

you trying to hijack my thread -___-
sooo....
if i have a totally unrooted t-mobile g2 that gets horrible reception in las vegas, nv (a pretty big city which shows great coverage on the map), would updating my radio help? should i go thru the trouble of rooting and all that? and what radio would be best for someone in my situation? basically i can sit in one place and go from FULL h+ signal to edge, to just a little edge, to back up to full h+, to just a little h+ to just G, to who knows what else. it's ridiculous.
Read Repoint's post above. It's the answer to your question

yea i saw that. i thought maybe i'd get someone with a stronger opinion like "YES DO IT AND USE THIS ONE" or something so it would push me a little haha. it may/may not work isn't really enough to get me going yet... i'm thinking about it though.
I didn't want to create a NEW thread, so I will post here since it's kinda similar to my issue. Please note that I DID the research, just couldn't find anything solid.
If anyone can help, I really appreciate it!
Anyway, I have a Desire Z (Bell, unlocked). I have a AT&T microSIM, put into adapter, put it into my phone.
It says H+ but I'm getting really slow Edge-like speeds.. Can anyone help me please?
Location: New Jersey. Once again, thanks!

Lol that's fine and all, but in the case of radios, there is no "best radio" it's a trial and error of which works best.
I spent a week or 2 to find the right radio back on my old winmo device.

All versions of the Desire Z support HSPA+ (but no other forms of "4G"). Don't know much about Rogers, are they achieving 4G simply by upgrading their 3G network to HSPA+, like AT&T is doing? If so, you should get "4G" speeds as long as the upgrades to the network have been done in your area.
If Rogers is going 4G by adding LTE or WiMax, then no change of radio is going to get you 4G on the Desire Z. Its completely different hardware needed on your phone.
