Nope. On the contrary, it runs much faster than windows 7, especially on old hardware and the Bulldozer cpus.
I'm sat patiently awaiting Mr. Postman to hopefully pop my copy in the letter box today as Amazon have moved the estimated delivery of tomorrow forward to today after they dispatched it.

question
I ve just bought 29eur upgrade from win7 on my netbook LENOVO S10-3T - which is touch based - i have great experience with consumer previews etc, it is not CPU hog like wrote someone before ATOM N550, 2GB RAM and SSD it is the greatest experience i ever had on desktop OS even on such poor CPU. Anyway, SSD brought to life even the WIN7 with some customization.
I have question. I have only 1024x600, but i was able to enable downscalling to cheat the metro UI to bring it to work, i use a lot my netbook on 22" screen so there it will work, but as my fresh bought copy did not finished downloading and install,
i would like to ask you if the downscalling registry hack still works on official release. I will be ready to finish fresh installation in about hour so i will ook after it but when someone has already an advice....
Thanks
My Windows 8 Pro Upgrade has arrived so here goes othing, & Hopefully will be back up and running on Windows 8 Pro.

Just installed Windows 8 Pro after buying it for $14.99 (easy to get the promo code). I'm sure it will take some getting use to, but for the price it was tough to pass up.
After running Windows update I'm now faced with a black screen & mouse pointer, is there anyway to get to safe mode in Windows 8?

I've tried several times, can get as far as logging in then nothing. I'm doing a refresh to she if that helps. I think it might be down to the activator that I had to use for the so called OEM copy of Windows 7 that I bought off of eBay that turned out to be a cloned DVD. If all else fails it's a fresh install of 7 no crack, drivers Win 8.
Can Windows 8 upgrade use the Win 7 DVD to upgrade or does it have to be installed?

Okay, I know this is gonna be a huge controversy, but that's not why I'm posting this. I am somewhat knowledgeable in how these phones work, and always like to try something new. Some people like Android, some like Windows Mobile. Thats why I propose this. Make an attempt to port Windows Mobile from the HD2. It seems to be the most similar phone to ours running Windows Mobile, and with as much as Windows Mobile has been "modded" or "hacked", whatever you wish to call it, I think it'd be possible. First matter would be getting it to boot in the first place, then drivers, etc. I don't know the chances of doing it or anything, but I'm gonna give it a try anyway. If you wanna help me out, let me know.
EDIT: If any devs are wanting to tackle this, I have found what seems to be extracted roms for the HD2 and the SE Xperia x1. Link: http://goo.gl/f4hWa. I am unsure of how to do this, so I'm pretty well confused. Any help is appreciated.
Any news on an WM sd based version on HD2?
When I had mine, people where talking about this possibility.
Maybe then it would be easier to port to DHD.
Personally, I'm not interested.
But it would be a nice challenge.
Yeah I need to get it all extracted first. Gonna take time since its new to me.

Wm6.5 LOL...
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
Get 6.5 and that'll be possible. Going straight to porting 7.5 is like a nerd thinking he can date the hottest girl in school.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
The problem with Windows Mobile is that the developers wont port it due to licensing issues. If they do and post the ROM here XDA will get a big lawsuit from Microsoft. The reason they can port Android to everything is because Android is open source and there are no licensing restrictions. Microsoft has locked down WM and to modify it would be breaking the rules and will cause some legal issues.
Wowww.... Everyone with winmo already on their phones modifies so that makes little sense.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
7.5 yes, not 6.5! I hated 6.5 on my hd2, it looked so old and clunky.

Because people who have Windows Mobile/Windows Phone on their phones have a license from Microsoft to use the software. Posting a hacked version for people to use who don't already have said license would be akin to posting warez which is banned under forum rules.
Unless you've already got windows mobile legitimately running on another device that you own; maybe you could delete it from that phone and claim that you were using that license to run it on your DHD instead...
Not going to happen.
I agree with the sentiment, It would be nice to see WP7.5+ on our beloved DHD's.
But read this article about what MS did in the days of WM.
I don't think XDA would want that again.

Is it possible to run windows mobile or windows 8 on the kindle fire?
don't think so - cause of the processor
but a dev might know better ...
The more important question would be why would you want to?
Loo I know what you mean. My cousin actually bought a windows phone back when the HD2 was brand new. As a matter of fact I think it WAS the HD2 he bought.. well anyway he said he didn't like it so he ended installing Android onto the HD2. But just recently he bricked it so now he has the REZOUND.

As I type from ics
right? i wanted to try it out xD because everything is either running IOS or android and i wana do something new and different xD and screw linux on it too lol it probably wont be able to do much.
I'm not a expert on Windows mobile or 8 but I don't think it will happen. Number one Windows is closed source so it would be hard to modify it to run on the Kindle Fire. And two unless Windows is released on a system that is close to the Kindle Fire then there probably is very limited selection of drivers.

Something tells me it will be possible, especially if there are any OMAP4 tablets at all, drivers should be similar.
Whether anybody actually goes through the trouble of getting it done and usable is another story altogether. I wonder what the performance would be like...
I totally understand that Win 8 is gonna be pretty much impossible to run on the KF, but would it really be that difficult to have the windows mobile OS on there? I feel like the kindle should have more than enough power to run it. Then again I'm still a young budding dev so you all tell me

Not anytime soon. According to the IEBlog:
As we approach general availability of Windows 8, we want to provide an update on IE10 for Windows 7. We will release a preview of IE10 on Windows 7 in mid-November, with final availability to follow as we collect developer and customer feedback.
IE10 on Windows 7 has the same standards based platform for developers to target as IE10 on Windows 8. We built an entirely new browser with Windows 8, with more performance and developer capabilities. IE10 brings improved real-world site performance and additional standards support to Windows 7 that Web developers have been asking for. We look forward to getting your feedback on IE10 on Windows 7, and will provide another update when the preview is available.

I.e., another preview release for Win 7 will come out over the next few weeks (the last IE10 preview for Win 7 came out over a year ago), with a final version release TBD dependent on feedback.

Yeah this pic predates IE10. Check out where IE9 is on the old versions list. On the bottom, right above IE8, 7, etc. and outdated versions of Opera and Firefox. Also IE10 is at the bottom of the current versions.

You are right, but if you think in reality who is using ALL 300 elements of HTML5 anyways?
Now enough of off-topic I just wanted to know the release date.
IE10 for Win 7 is available
For those that hadn't seen this a couple of weeks ago, IE10 preview for Windows 7 is out.
MS suggests you provide feedback on Connect.
Read the IEBlog post announcing it.
I've been using it for a week or two. They may call it a preview build, but it works solidly in my experience across two Win7 machines. The addition of spell check is looooong overdue. It also seems a little less crash-prone when messing with a great many tabs (IE9 would more frequently have to stop and recover some tabs, which was annoying even though the browser as a whole didn't crash).

I think it's best if you upgrade, as Windows 8 will raise in price after January 31st.
Make sure you read over all the changes, of which there are a tonne, and take advantage of them.
May as well take advantage of the cheap upgrade offers now...
I find there is no disadvantage running a mouse compared to swiping with a touchscreen, but a trackpad on a lappie is a little slower...

Here's a a rough summary of Windows 8's features - ignoring the obviously new UI everyone knows about:
Multimonitor support overhaul
File Explorer improvements with ribbon
Shorter boot times
Security enhancements
Faster file copying that can be paused and maintains a single window
Redesigned task manager
Integrated social and calendar applications
Native .iso mounting
Better battery usage
Cloud synchronization
File History continuous sequential backups
Backups to network drives
chkdsk that will take 10 secs each and every time rather than hours
Storage spaces for multiple hard drives (Like an OS-based RAID 0 or 1)
50% less RAM usage
Tighter CPU control
3G data monitoring
Vastly superior conflict resolution when copying files so you know exactly which files will be replaced and the exact differences
Copy/delete jobs that never stop halfway with an "are you sure?" message while you're AFK
Easy refresh and reset options in case of operating system failure
Windows Update which is now COMPLETELY automated and will never show a single popup ever again
UEFI motherboard support
Native USB 3.0 support
With the other, miscellaneous stuff like HYPER-V and other things that don't affect me- but may be of great use to others.

This is really different from RAID. With storage spaces you can hook up random external drives to your computer and merge them to whatever drive you want. This is extremely useful for those who are too scared or do not know how to touch their hardware and those who have all-in-ones that are hard to modify.
