Hi
I've looked through the threads and can't find any posts with this problem.
My phone has stopped charging through the cradle or car charger. It syncs and charges through the usb and my wired sat nav connects up but neither method charges my phone. Obviously the battery will die down quick when I use my tom tom so I need that to work and only being able to charge via usb is a pain and inconvienient.
What can I do to fix it??
sounds like the chargers power supplie has blown buy a new one.
well no, cause it doesn't charge with the car charger either. so its a problem with the xda. Or did you mean buy a new XDA?
maybe the connector is broken and the pins which do the charge from other sources then the usb connectors is disconnected
you can 1 make a cable which have an usb connector in the end and AC or Car power in the other
you can change or pay somebody to change the connector in the xda
or you can buy a new pda
thanks. Know anyone who does repairs?
sorry no
and even if i did this being a somewhat international forum
me saying "yeah the guy down my street have a mobil shop and he can do it" would not help much
I've noticed when I have my tablet plugged into my computer via USB it doesn't appear to be charging. The battery icon is showing a red lightning bolt. This is different than when I have my tab plugged into a wall socket.
Working as intended or..?
Your PC USB port can't supply enough juice (500ma max) compare to your wall socket (>2000ma) to charge while power the tab. Turn the tab off and your will get some charge off the USB port.

That adapter does not convert the power, as stated by foxbat, usb from pc won't deliver enough power.

It's been charging my tab for about a month now with no problems at all, but I'm not here to argue, if you feel that you know more than I do. I've charged the tablet using that adapter from my laptop, PC, and Energizer XP4001 Power Pack.
You might also search the forums, as I'm not the only one to recommend and use this item.
USB Charger
Have also use this USB charger Adapter Cable For Samsung GALAXY Tab p1000. Works great.
currently having thea similiar, but not same problem; bought this cable of of amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005EAEQR4 and while icon indicates its charging, % is not going up at all, mayb 1% per hour or so... am ready to return it, but want to know if anyone else is experiencing similiar problems with a longer cable?
thanks

Ahh thanks! Was wondering why it wouldn't charge via my USB port.
(In fact using my Samsung Focus USB adapter for the outlet doesn't seem to work either... I need to use only the Samsung Tab USB adapter)

The focus charger is rated only about 700ma (same exact one as Captivate/SGS), marginablly better than PC USB. GT 10.1 has a rather large battery and hence it requires much larger charge current. You don't see any laptop get charged via USB, do you?

Is that through the orginal AC adapter or through PC USB?
Turning off the tablet and charging it via USB works, but it takes forever!

And you are not the only one who is waiting twice as long before his tab is fully charged. Then we can open a topic "Why does it take so long before my tab is charged?" As foxbat stated: You don't see any laptop get charged via USB, do you?
So if I say your adapter doesn't work its just as accurate as your answer it does work.

Hey, I'm not here to argue with you. I'm just an idiot.
Go about your business, and don't listen. I'm ok with that.
First of all, not all USB ports are equal.
On many modern PCs, the USB ports can deliver more than 500mA over USB if required. This is definitely true for pretty much all Macs since 2007, and quite a few mainboards from other manufacturers (see this article for some background).
Secondly, I've had one of these adaptors for quite a while now, and have used it regularly to charge my Galaxy Tab 7" which uses exactly the same power supply and cables as the GT 10.1. I can categorically state that when using this adaptor, it the GT7 does charge from a Macbook Air and a 5000mAh external battery that has a 1A output USB port labelled for an iPad.
Whilst it might not be as quick as the wall charger, it is definitely much faster than attempting to charge the GT7 from the same devices without the adaptor, even if the device is in use.
I've not formally tried to charge my GT10.1 with it yet, but I did check to see if the "not-charging" indicator went away (which it did), so I rather presume it will work much like the GT7.
Regards,
Dave

You don't need to embarrass yourself by saying you're an idiot, It's very childish and the second time you mention I'm supposed to be smarter then you. I'm sorry you take this so personally.
i just use the supplied cable and it charges via usb on my computer. it shows not charging, but it basically trickle charges when the tab is both on and off
After a certain person (on XDA) forcing me to prove that charging VIA USB is possible, I suppose I should share with all of you guys as well. I have a MZ601, so it's an original XOOM (you don't say right? hahaha), a few weeks ago I brought a car charger that has multi-tip, so it means you can swap out the adapter and such. I tested it on my XOOM and it worked, so I came to the conclusion that the XOOM official charger was 5V but in reality when I was chatting to solarnz about it, he mentions it was a 12V and to my surprise it was. Anyways the point is if you can convert or buy an adapter pin to usb for the XOOM it is possible to use any source of USB power to charge the XOOM.
Here are some pictures so you get the idea:

So there, I hope you guys can find it useful and not flame me like that certain someone.
Edit:
I should also add, charging via USB is pointless and slow only for if you really need to. Unless you got an adapter that outputs 1.0A + it probably be faster than standard usb, but what's the point if you got your original charger?
Always good to have options.

cool slow but if u need some power it should help
very interesting post, i have a car charger but not multi pin...didnt know that it can charge through pc usb
Thats really good to hear, as the pin is fragile and i hate it. I have an old samsung tablet usb charger and to my surprise it did work.
Where can I find these adapters?
I've always been sure that plugging the xoom to a usb 5v 1A+ charger would have worked but couldnt find a bloody adapter that fits that unique pin
You can not charge xoom by usb.
Usb is not connected to the xoom battery.
Stop the question
That's not exactly charging via USB.... that's using a power tip adaptor to charge FROM a USB power source.
This is not exactly news.

Rats, got me all excited, even tried a couple of my usb chargers (didn't work of course).
Should change the thread title to: Charging VIA USB is ** NOT ** POSSIBLE (MZ601)
The charger tip is not that unique actually it's the same size as the NOKIA N71 mobile

Thanks for this info. Now I know we are certainly able to charge our xoom via USB. Eventhough it's very slow, but always good to have this option.

Edit. Wrong thread
Could anyone link me to where these tips are sold? Did some searches on the usual marketplaces and didn't find anything.

I no longer have my Xoom, but if I remember correctly, the Motorola dock for it charges via USB... the standard plug goes into the dock, but where the Xoom sits, there is only HDMI male and USB male connectors.
FWIW: My mother now has my old Xoom and she accidentally bent the pin inside the Xoom where the normal charger goes. The only thing that will work now is the dock to charge it until the port can be fixed.

My Xoom model MZ604 'OEM HD Dock' connects via the pogo pins, usb and hdmi. I always assumed the power was supplied via the pogo pins.

That's correct. Just checked what you call the "pogo pins" on my OEM dock and they are at 12VDC. Contrary to the title of OP, I don't think it's possible to charge via USB.

No you can't, USB is 5v and the Xoom requires 12v to charge.

I believe the USB portion was simply to help with alignment for tthe pins
USB is for audio out
impossible
how could you charge a 7.4 Volt battery with a 5 Volt charger?...
that sound impossible to me

If your connect both your pogo cable and your mico usb cable to your pc they won't charge at the same time. Drivers at the kernel level detect that both are connected to the tablet and only let one charge to prevent power draw overload. In this case it would charge from the pogo charger as it can recognize that the pogo charger is delivering a safe amount of power while simultaneously cutting down on charging time. You can however connect your pogo charger and have the tablet charge while the micro usb cable is connected to transfer files to and from your tablet, use adb etc. Let me know if you still have questions.

I would double check that comment. I have a pogo plug and OTG cable with Ethernet adapter or SD card reader attached. The icon that indicates the device is charging shows BUT it is not actually charging. I confirmed this under both Android 4.3.x and 4.2.2

Very interesting, the point I mentioned above is as least theoretically what is supposed to happen when plugging on both charging sources. Just to clarify your device doesn't charge at all when you have the pgoo plug and OTG cable with Ethernet adapter or SD card reader attached?

In theory yes but Google didn't include it in the Android rom. A developer for the old Nexus 7 did add the capability but never for the Nexus 10. I doubt very much that the next version of the Nexus 10 will include a pogo plug connection.
Just wondering before I buy a oneplus 2 does the cable work on every other USB charger plug like all android phones? I'll have to order a non UK plug but if I don't even need to use the supplies charger and can just plug the cable into another one it'll be perfect
It should work, though charging speed may vary and might cause eventual damage to the OP2's battery.

Yeah seems to work on any that I have tried. I have tried it on at least 5 different chargers with different USB leads and a Type C adapter for the leads. Just varies the charging times.
