Hi all,
Have tried searching around for a couple of nights now and can't find anything relating to this so please don't flame me if I've missed this elsewhere
HTC HD2 - been running various flavours of Windows Phone 7 since its release - currently running the latest pdaimatejam 7.8 and very happy bunny I was with it too - until this Monday when one of the local [Edinburgh] Vodafone 3G masts went down and I ceased to get any signal whatsoever on the HD2. Tried changing from 3G to E and from automatic to search for networks - finds nothing. Go outside my house and it finds the network again but its patchy. Anyway, think I've ruled out the SIM. Have reflashed the ROM a couple of times to no avail and was hoping to flash back to a stock 6.5 ROM to 100% rule out any issue with the ROM.
However... boot the HD2 to the MAGLDR bootloader and set to USB flashing [as I would to flash a Windows Phone 7 ROM] but the RUU utility won't connect. Comes back with a 246 Error. Now its been a *long* time since I used the RUU utility from this laptop - can't recall if I did or didn't ever use it while running Windows 7 Ultimate, but I certainly haven't since I did a clean install of Windows 8 Pro a few weeks ago.
Anyone got any ideas on how/if I can get the RUU utility working in Windows 8 so I can test this further? Found some posts the other night which suggest that I may be able to reflash back to 6.5 from an SD card so it may not be essential but haven't tried that yet...
Thanks in advance,
David

LOL, had just logged back on to declare myself a divvy
Figured that out for myself after some more hair-pulling fun! Turns out its defo not down to the radio or rom at least, which means its either Vodafone's network [my guess] or the phone hardware [which I see as less likely as outside my house it generally works OK]
Still, good wee refresher for myself on flashing and re-flashing
Thanks again for the prompt response - much appreciated!
Cheers,
D
sometimes the simplest things are the easiest to overlook.
I would likely agree with you that its probably the voda network, with a mast out, and the phone working outdoors.

Spoke to them again this morning and turns out that of the 4 masts they have in the central Edinburgh area, 3 of these are currently down. No estimated fix timescale and nothing but a vague promised to refund line rental for the period out of connection. Not a happy bunny LOL

I need help desperately as my HTC touch unlocked phone (originally from Rogers) sometimes works (on Fido network) but most of the times it gives me the error that its Searching for the Signal and then turn the phone off and repeat the same process.
My Rom version is kwbr rom v4.5.3 wwe and Radio version is 03.39.90
I just started having the same problem today. I'm on Fido with a Rogers Touch (Elfin 128/256 MB version), with Onyx ultimate 4.5 from 5/14/09. Until today it worked great, always had the network and made/received calls every time. However today at work I noticed it was stuck on finding network, and wouldn't connect. Since then I've had it connect to the network sometimes, and about half my calls have been getting through, the other half had a few seconds of silence, no connection, followed by three beeps back on the dialer screen. I tried updating the radio, that didn't help, still the same issue. It's not the sim card, as it works 100% in my backup phone.
Anyone know what's causing this and if there's a way to fix it? I could try reflashing the rom, but I'd rather not lose all my installed programs and stuff.
Wellcome to the club. I couldnt find any solution yet

I've tried reflashing the Onyx rom, as well as the Onyx 5 beta, and neither of these helped. The phone network connection is still intermittent, and when it does connect to the network it still takes a few tries before any call will dial out. I'll try completely restoring my original rom backup, but it's looking more and more likely that this is a hardware issue. If it is, how would I go about fixing it? I severely doubt it would be covered under any warranty, since I bought it used, so I'd probably have to do it myself if at all possible. Anyone know of anywhere to get parts for the Elf beyond the normal keypad/case/lcd stuff offered in most of the online parts stores?
Reflashing the original rom didn't do it either, looks like I'll have to contact HTC.
Let me know what solution they gave u.
Is your phone under warrenty?

As I said it's a used phone so it's probably out of warranty, but I'll get in touch with the guy I bought it from and see if Rogers will repair or replace it first, then if they can't or won't do anything for me I may email HTC. I'll bump this thread when/if I have any news.

Judging from the replies, you have a bad device.
HTC Service Centre might be the best place for you.
well the problem is that i didnt purchase it with the HTC or Rogers directly.
Anyways i will contact them again lets see how it goes
You can still bring down to HTC even if you didnt purchase from them.
But it must, of course, be made by HTC.
Hiya,
Got a couple of wee issues with my new Touch HD. Although it had dissapeared from the Orange website, I managed to get one from an Orange shop. Hoping someone can help with the following :
1) Windows Update never works. Just says connection failed and to check date and time are correct, which they are.
2) Downloaded Orange Maps to see what it's like and it never seems to get a GPS signal. Google Maps works fine, just not Orange. And there's no apparent way to switch GPS on. Running Quick GPS first makes no difference.
Was gonna try the Miri ROM but that gets a communication error and doesn't work. Can't get a software update out of Orange either.
Cheers

Mate, I got my HD from Orange, flashed NRGZ28's rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524032, had no trouble whatsoever, dont bother with orange maps either.....crap!
Windows Update doesnt work for anyone either, dont know why its there
Go ahead try a new ROM
As suggested above very good plus the one im on if your prefer 6.1 to 6.5
windows update..reason..?
according to what i read and understood ..on www.facebook.com/windowsmobile... in questions posted to windows mobile.. a
Prithvi Raj , Product Manager in the Consumer Experiences group in Windows Mobile ,(about relevant question, why no updates so far ...he quoted the following...
"To date, we have not delivered any updates via Windows Update for Windows Mobile, as this service is only for critical security fixes and we have not had any of those (thankfully!)"
hope this helps..??
Just thought I would share my experiences to see if it benefitted others.
I have a Vodafone UK HD2 which came with 1.43ROM.
I used HSPL1 and extracted the NBH from the official WWE 1.66ROM and applied that to my handset and I've tried a couple of radio's and am now on 2.09.51
With the above setup I was getting quite a bit of instability still where I would sometimes have to reset the phone a couple of times a day. Calls would sometimes crash the phone, etc it just seemed buggy and instable but just about useable.
Then I saw HSPL2 and didnt think much of it until the other day when I started to look at it and noticed you could pick different HSPL's and spotted 1.66 in the list. Brain says to me you've got 1.66ROM and 1.42SPL. Back on the Kaiser the wrong SPL with a ROM could make it unstable... I wonder...
So I proceeded to install HSPL2 and selected 1.66HSPL option. Since then (2 1/2 days) my phone has been stable, quick and has not needed a reboot except for once with the data dropout issue (which I reckon is Windows/SenseUI App related).
Also battery life seems to have been extended as well.
Its like a completely different handset to me as I was started to get frustrated with it before this but now I am happy again.
Any comments are welcome.
Hi,
It's Darrin from the VF forum, interested to try the 1.66 HSPL, can you plop it ontop of the the existing one, or do you have to re-install everything from scratch?
Any chance you can point me in the right direction?
Cheers
Darrrin
sounds interesting thanks for the post starfury
makes sense aswell
at the end of the day youve always been booting a phone with a 1.66 system with a bootloader made for a different system.
i would try this right now but im using my warranty rights for an exchange atm but will try soon =]
thanks!

yes you can change spl and it won't affect your rom. download hspl 2 from rom development section, run it as administrator and choose which spl to instal.(choose one with hspl not 0000 of course)
I've been running without HSDPA for a little bit and recently switched it back on and the device locked up twice in a matter of hours. Switched it off again and its fine again.
I cant imagine that Vodafone UK havent implemented HSDPA properly so maybe there is an issue with the HSDPA protocol in the firmware?

Hi All
I need some help with my HD2.
Today I upgraded from stock rom to latest as version as on HTC website
I can't recall old version, anyway I am having an issue with this radio version which is 2.07.51.22_2
My exchange activesync keeps disconnecting, so my emails are arriving 3-4 minutes later.
I guess my question is?
Can i go back to older radio version without flashing, or worse case scenario could i downgrade to older rom?
I need some help guys.
Thanks
I am downloading now... Will try when down.
I cannot help you there, but have you tried sending a SMS? did you get a stupid notification of message being sent? I am trying to figure out a way to deactive.... No luck yet, waiting for HTC response
As for the Data sync I have had no issue as yet. I have found it a tad more reliable than 1.49. But I have only done a whole 2 hrs of testing

What a pain, so yours work ok, do you use activesync with an exchange server?
That's where my problem is.
It disconnects every few minutes, which obviouslyconsumes more battery power.
As for the sms sent notification I dont mid it.
I may downgrade to original rom, is it safe?
Thanks

Sorry I should have clarified. I link mine with my Exchange 2010 Server. I am getting emails as wanted.
That said I still can't sync SMS. Which is soemthing HTC is looking at and I haven't heard back in a while. I should email them to chase them up.
Hmm, I may try a hard reset tomorrow then.
Thanks

Hi there, having exactly the same issue, did you find a solution to this other than changing out the ROM? Greatly appreciate your posts.
Telstra ROMS on HD2 are stuffed!
I've heard from a mate who works in Telstra ROM development that the HD2 images are not fully tested.. and therefore go to market with communications flaws.. eg every time you try and sync your mail or use as a shared internet device it struggles as the radio version is substandard to the rest of the Image.
Do yourselves a favour.. HSPL it... Find one of the wonderful roms that the guys/gals on here do.. and you will love using the hardware you have purchased. The HD2 is so powerful and should not be ruined by Telstra's lame attempt at a ROM.
Seems they have put way more effort into the Android ( desire ) but its still no HD2.

Yep fixed it, apologies forgot to post solution for my issue.
After trying reflashing with new ROM, downgrading to old ROM and still having same issue, that's right after downgrading...
It clicked, see I bought device and started using activesync after about 2 months.
Before that, I had an issue with my 3G internet connection not working at all.
Weather updates, internet access, hotmail emails etc.
To fix that other issue I had to create a new internet connection.
By the time I got to use activesync I had a new internet connection, I was not using stock telstra connection.
Therefore to fix on new ROM version I created a new connection, and magically started working up to now with no issues.
And it is true telstra are bloody hopeless at testing pre-releasing ROMs.
If you need more information let me know.
Thanks
Would greatly appreciate any help in two areas:
- firstly my HD2 internet stuff is nor working at present. Clicking many of the BigPond links just brings up IE with wap.telstra.com/wap?..... and ends up just sitting there until timeout. Can you post details for setting up new internet connection that fixed this.
- which ROM did you go to. Hw did you load this. I cannot get my HD2 to connetc to Win7 x64 WMDC. Can't even see any mention of the device in the device mgr, though it did say it saw it at ones stage. Reading numerous posts - seems to be a lot of people having issues in this space..

Ok.. have to say, the wap.telstra addresses are all old and many are discontinued. All those apps are simply web shortcuts that should point to a m.bigpond address.
Firstly.. you need to do a few things..
1) You will need to HSPL your phone- ( like flashing a bios ) I just used the hspl.zip.. Instructions are easy and straight forward, make sure you follow them perfectly.
2) Flash your radio to something better i did the 2.10 ( Again.. instructions need to be followed.)
3) I then had a look and found a rom on the forum ( energy GTX ) which seems to have all i want and is fast.. after you flash it.. reboot it.. and it will autoconfigure to the Telstra network.. and BINGO.. FAST Phone!!

Hey there, thanks for this. With the new 1.72 ROM the Telstra inbuild connection set ups seem to work, can browse internet and activesync will connect when I prompt it OK (with 1.49 I had to setup a new connection with Phone line (GPRS) and telstra.wap manually (via the Telstra tech's)). I have two HD2's one running 1.49 (with this manual config) and the other 1.72 with inbuilt Telstra config's - the delay problem u described with email arriving 3 or 4mins later is still happening on 1.72 despite it appearing to connect fine, almost like the message from the exchange server is being ignored. Watching Activesync on the 1.72 when I know there is new email and there is this odd sequence, seems to check and recheck emails 2 or 3 times when just one new email has arrived but doesn't seem to pick up the trigger from the Exchange Server that new email has arrived? Does this delay still happen for you, what connection configuration did you select? Thanks v.much.
I want to know what are the real benefits or improvements on upgrading the ROM on Telstra branded HD2? Because I bought an new, unlocked HD2 from a clearance shop in Melbourne and had been into it for just 2 days. Bening a long time WM user, I got used to it and it really seems to work without any problems at the moment, so does the new ROM brings some dramatic improvements, new and fanastic functions or what? I am not after cosmetic things at all, need to know real benefits comared to old ROM.

Thanks, almost sold on this path at this point given the headaches, was reluctant to head down this HSPL path, is there a good reference for setting up a custom ROM specifically for Telstra's network?
Activesync usually never works with the standard Telstra connection in the HD2 Telstra ROM.
As far as im aware, it is set up to go through a Telstra proxy server, which doesn't allow the Activesync traffic.
You must set up your own stock standard connection to telstra.internet APN. Which bypasses the proxy that they have on their preloaded connection. You will however not be able to use the Telstra internet shortcuts to My Account, BigPond etc, as they require authentication with their proxy server.
So as far as I have found, with the stock Telstra HD2 ROM its a case of either one or the other: your activesync working, or your Telstra links working.

I'd like a response to this too as I'm looking at HD2 Android and need a radio upgrade from for it to run, but don't want to lose Telstra Rural coverage. The HD2 is a great device, but few Winmo6.5 app developments compared to Android or iphone.
Ever since the new year, the clock on my HTC has been advancing too quickly. Its normally an hour at a time, although once it was 30 minutes or so. At worse, it has been around 12 hours too fast. Ocassionally it will correct itself, only to switch back later. I havent had this connected to the net via wifi or directly to my pc and I havent been roaming. I have tried a soft reboot with no luck.
Ive disabled the automatic sync for now.
Anyone heard of this problem - cant seem to find anyone experiencing this recently via forums or the net?
Thanks

You're not alone! We've got the same problem on most of our work HD2's on Orange (Same network as you effectively now Orange and T-Mo have merged networks into EE).
HD2's with Android on them aren't affected, but HD2's with stock WinMo 6.5 ROM's are.
EE have suggested installing the latest firmware (not sure on version number at the moment) from the HTC website which is a daylight savings fix, but doubt this will make much difference seeing as the UK switched to GMT months ago! I'll try installing this at some point, don't hold out much hope though so for the moment we've been disabling automatic timesync.
I suspect it's something EE have been doing with their network that has affected WinMo 6.5 on the HD2 somehow.
Same problem in DK

We have the same problem her in Denmark on HD2 and I have seen the problem reported for other HTC devices with WinMo 6.5
I am on Vodafone in the UK with a totally stock HTC 1.66 ROM, WinMo 6.5
Twice in the last 48 hours my clock has advanced by exactly 1 hour sometime during the day. Today it was around midday but I did not notice the exact time.
Glad I'm not alone on this. I thought I was going mad!
I'd forgotten about the time sync option. It was on so Ijust turned it off. Will wait and see if the problem persists tomorrow.
Thanks
Thanks for all the replies - I thought I was the only one! Looks like its a Winmo6.5 problem with handling 2013 date updates rather than a specific network? - unlikely to get a fix then I would have thought...
Things have been fine with the sync turned off for a day, so looks like its not the device itself.
Yeah, mine did not advance an hour today with time sync switched off.
Its being reported on the O2 forum too: http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Android-Devices-Samsung-HTC-Sony/HTC-HD2/td-p/378652
One of my work colleagues has an HD2. I will check with him on Monday.
problem fixed by workaround...
So far my problem is fixed with sync turned of:
Start-Settings-Menu
all settings
Personal
phone
GSM/UMTS
select Time synchronization - get settings then untick Automatic time zone, then ok
Have been OK since friday 4/1
But as we have 2400 devices (HD2 and Touch Diamond 2 (yes - I have users reporting the same problem on WinMo 6.1 devises))
Is there an knowledge of a "central fix" from either operators or HTC?
Thanks in advance for any reply

we've got this problem too on the majority of our corporate HD2s. I've tried turning off the time sync but having monitored this, the devices are still changing their time. O2 are saying it's not their end doing anything.
has anybody got any further with this or is turning the time sync off for you working?

Just spoken to HTC, they have assured me that the daylight saving fix on their website should fix this. I won't hold my breath as it says it's not applicable to the T-Mobile devices, which we also have the problem on
