Hey..
I'm not sure which official ROM was on my phone before (its my brother's phone).
In any case, I tried the "latest" ROMs from this list [http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordan/list.php] but they all end up with black screen after successful flash.
The only ROM that DOES work, is JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf, however its ECLAIR, and I can't seem to be able to upgrade it to ANYTHING else (I install 2ndinit, and from there i've also tried countless roms through recovery).
Any help will be appreciated.

I'll answer myself (found in on by searching, although there are COUNTLESS similar threads, most answers did not work for me at first).
I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486731&highlight=bl6+downgrade to take back my defy to a froyo-version which contains Bootloader 6 but still a froyo OS.
Then I installed 2ndinit, and put on a new ROM through recovery.

Hi im really sorry if this may have been covered countless times but as the phone is still relatively new I have posted to limit the chances of applying an incorrect rom.
I've had my Magic for a couple of months now and recently decided to root the phone, (its a Vodafone UK HTC Magic - PVT32B) and i followed the instructions to root via androidandme with the 1clickroot program to cyanogens 4.1 rom. its all going fine for now however in going through the steps it appears i did NOT back up the original rom for the magic- i backed up my recovery image but not the actual rom image. I've seen some sites suggest downloading the DREAIMG file or something similar however this relates to the G1 - to which even if it did work it would brand my phone as a Tmobile handset just like it is now with cyanogens ROM.
was wondering If anyone had a clean Vodafone UK rom (wiped/cleaned so no user data is present) prob from a nandroid backup or something - i do have Cyanongens 1.4 recovery image installed. Sorry to be picky but i dont want to risk bricking and would like to go back to the stock rom or at least have it inthe event i wanted togo back- these Tmobile ones come bundled with apps i /cant/ use and waste space such as the built in IM app or cyanogens amazon.com app which is useless in the UK.
i thank you in advance for any help you may give and apologise again if this has been covered < 9000 times already
I have a different phone can't help much, but I will suggest something but while you're looking for a stock ROM, I'd recomend doing a nandroid backup of your phone as it is now (if you have it up and running 100%), because if there is a problem in future at least you could go back to that.
Well, thats the brilliance of android, you can back up your phone often, we should all do it
I lost my stock backup, but have happily stuck with cyanogen since though. I'm sure someone here will have a nandroid of their blank phone. In between changing ROMs, someone could load their old backup, factory reset, nandroid that again, then go on to their new roms.
We really need a good list of download links of stock ROMs up somewhere, this would help devs sort out some issues too I'd imagine.
thanks for the reply, i couldnt agree with you more, i am quite happy with cyanogen now, particulary as ive found more use withthe phone now its rooted however we realy need a consistent storage of default roms and a central area for ROM creators to submit thier versions whilst having stock roms available for those who want to to back.
im guessing this may be a more common thing since the 1click root came along, guess it started people rooting who really shouldnt be (not excluding myself from that list) but i imagine bricked phones-a-plenty.
thanks again for the help. i may as well make a backup as u say whilst its working- least before it all goes tits-up
I know there is all kinds of information out there on returning a phone to stock, but I cannot seem to get anything to work. I flashed my Magic with the engineering spl, set up a custom recovery image and rom, but now I need to return it back to stock to exchange it... I've tried the old rogers wiped rom, and I've tried a rooted version and a signed version... I can't seem to get anything to properly flash on to this phone now... I can flash any of the fun cool roms, but no boring old stock. The closest success I had was the signed rom installed, but hung on the rogers boot screen. the other ones all complain that they are unsigned. Any advice? I need to get this thing restored ASAP, and I would normally muck with it myself, but I don't have the time to play around anymore. I need to ship this thing back in 10 days or less now... Please?
Before you flashed anything, you should have fastboot-ed a recovery image & did a nandroid backup of your stock ROM.
Did you do it?

Hey guys, firstly, apologies if this post is in the wrong place.
i think i have made a massive mistake and am really hoping someone here can offer a solution. I installed hard spl, and went in search of official roms to try out. i installed this rom RUU_Leo_Dopod_CHS_1.70.706.0_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.3 2.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship.exe
from a link from one of the stickies in this section. i didnt see any obvious problem with doing this, but maybe i just have no idea what im doing. neway, no when i try to boot the phone up i get a message in red writing saying 'your rom isnt customised for your hardware. please reflash the proper rom code or contact the service center'
what can i do. is my phone bricked? how do i flash back to a compatible rom if i cant get an active sync connection?
ne help would be really appreciated guys. feeling slightly desperate here
turn the phone off, hold down 'vol down' and turn it on and you'll get to the bootloader. plug your usb in and it'll change from serial to usb. then flash as normal and think carefully next time
Same problem here. Just enter bootload, flash other radio, then flash other rom...
phew, thanks a lot guys. worked perfectlyjust out of interest, why didnt that rom work?
Don't know but I don't try non-WWE stock ROMs - I only use custom ROMs these days or stock ROMs from my region to be on the safe side...
Hi all, a friend of mine has a green lense defy thats been flashed with the
JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf and I wanted to see if I could bring it up to date for him. He doesnt use it so its just a side project to see what we can do with it. I researched it and see that this .sbf can make it difficult to flash and you need certain .sbf files to make it work. I'd like to get MS2Ginger 3.0 running with the green lense fix. I've tried the .sbf's from the ROM thread but they only give me a Moto logo bootscreen and freezes. I've searched the threads and tried a few different .sbf's and also a nandroid backup method but the only thing that gets the phone to boot is the JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf flash. Can somebody help me find what I need or point me in the right direction? I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
see if this helps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659043&page=2
Once I had to rescue red defy with that Chinese eclair CG5 sbf you mentioned. So my proposal is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982 post 1 / Common Problems / Questions = Method 2. - go through all points as stated
I used it and then flashed different CM7 & CM9 without any problem with CM7 and CM9 kernels
The sbf mentioned in item 1. is the same as yours
Hello, I'm new to the flashing scene. But basically, I am trying to get a custom ROM on my phone, hopefully as painlessly as possible.
I recently reflashed a stock ROM(which isn't quite correct because my camera doesn't work). Afterwards, I rooted it and all that jazz.
Then I went to getting 2nd Init installed. I used the APKs available on this forum. The latest version didn't work(after rebooting, the LED never turned blue). I then went to v1.8. I installed the stable bootmenu(0.6).
With this one, I finally got the blue LED and got to a boot menu. I went to custom recovery. I tried to take a backup and got a "cannot mount /sdcard" error.
Has anyone else had this problem and know any way to fix it?
Stock ROM is "2.1-Update1".

You need to flash a 2.2 stock sbf, as there is an issue with Eclair... CEE or Nordic Froyo is a good base to start with. Flash one of the sbf's mentioned above (hope you haven't flashed a Defy+ sbf, since you mentioned your camera doesn't work...)
After flashing one of the SBF's that I mentioned, install 2nd-init 2.0, intsll LATEST bootmenu and take it from there.
