[Q] Can't mount sd card from 2nd-Init? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I'm new to the flashing scene. But basically, I am trying to get a custom ROM on my phone, hopefully as painlessly as possible.
I recently reflashed a stock ROM(which isn't quite correct because my camera doesn't work). Afterwards, I rooted it and all that jazz.
Then I went to getting 2nd Init installed. I used the APKs available on this forum. The latest version didn't work(after rebooting, the LED never turned blue). I then went to v1.8. I installed the stable bootmenu(0.6).
With this one, I finally got the blue LED and got to a boot menu. I went to custom recovery. I tried to take a backup and got a "cannot mount /sdcard" error.
Has anyone else had this problem and know any way to fix it?
Stock ROM is "2.1-Update1".

You need to flash a 2.2 stock sbf, as there is an issue with Eclair... CEE or Nordic Froyo is a good base to start with. Flash one of the sbf's mentioned above (hope you haven't flashed a Defy+ sbf, since you mentioned your camera doesn't work...)
After flashing one of the SBF's that I mentioned, install 2nd-init 2.0, intsll LATEST bootmenu and take it from there.

[Q] upgrade latest radio required for CM7?

Hi,
So I wanted to upgrade my CM6.1.1 to the stable CM7.
I went to CyanogenMod's wiki for Nexus one as I always did and it says to install the latest radio 5.08.00.04, However I already updated my ClockworkMod to 3.0.0.5 and when trying to flash the radio zip I get this error:
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
After googling a bit I saw understood that my only solution is to downgrade CWM or to flash Amon_RA instead.
Now here's the real problem:
I can't flash to Amon_RA because I won't be able to boot into it. My power button is not functional.
I'm scared to try and downgrade CWM. After some more googling I saw people that claimed downgrading through rom manager did nothing and they still booted to 3.0.0.5, one guy said he got bricked though I don't see how since it's not a radio flash.
Bottom line, the page http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version#Nexus_One says the latest radio (without saying which one it is) is required for CM7.
Is this true?
Any ideas, thoughts, help, cookies, would be welcome.
p.s.
My Nexus One is originally an AT&T/Rogers nexus if it makes any difference
p.p.s
How come Cyanogen posts instructions to flash a radio that doesn't work on the most recent CWM, is there another version of this radio update.zip that's using Edify?
Try post in the Q&A section
update:
Got over my fears and tried downgrading CWM.
Now trying to flash the radio... Couple of consecutive reboots, my heart skipping a couple of beats...
ok... looks ok... CM (still on 6) is loading...
Takes a long time...
Got the new radio!
Flashing back to CWM 3.0.0.5.
Everything seems to work fine...
will update after upgrading to CM7
Sorry for not posting in the Q&A section.
CM7 loaded fine, everything seems to be in order...
Damn it:
1. For some unexplained reason, Google talk authentication fails, even though contacts and calendar synced fine (so it's not a wrong password or something)
2. The Market is acting funny:
2.1 It won't download anything (same old "failed downloading..)
2.2 Search auto complete shows a list of java.lang.NullPointerException
update:
Had to download Titanium backup .apk manually from the web, push it to the device with adb, only to wipe the data of the market app.
That seemed to fix the market.
For some reason it looks like Google talk authentication is also fixed.. after the market wipe...
weird.
I've never updated my radio, and I've never had a problem with any custom ROMs. I've been running CM7 for a while now with no issues.

[Q]Messed up my X5 while installing ICS

Hi,
I managed to mess up my phone by installing Aurora ICS over CM7, therefore issues with connecting to mobile network etc..
Could someone give me link(s) to various official 2.3.5 as i tried some, but i get "Installation Aborted" in return.
Don' t expect to get serious help with these poor info.
Be more specific and give more info about the state of device before flashing ICS, what you have done, in which state the device is now and what you do to flash official 2.3 roms and get the installation aborting error.
for e.g which CM7 you had. There are several versions, some need 2.2 official rom as base and some 2.3 official. Network connected issues appear when you flash a rom which is built for 2.3 official installed as base, and you have original 2.2.
Also when trying to flash the official rom, the 1step( Unpacking process) is successful, or you get only installation aborted error immediately?
I had a gingerbread CM7, idont remember which one.
I get installation aborted at once, when i try to flash through CWM 5.0.2.7
I`ve also tried 5.5.0.4 i think.
EDIT: Think i had a CM7 based on 2.2 Official even if it was Gingerbread, since i flashed it last year before christmas.
just install official 2.3, since it is the base for most ROM's right now.
follow this link, everything is explicit there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369296
hope it helps
BRB gonna test something out!..
Think i fixed it now...
Had to boot into purple screen to transfer the update file to the phone, than unpacked in ICS and rebooted into purple screen again.
Looks like it`s trying to install now.
i hope you solved this.

[Q] Need SBF with CG version 5 or 6

Hi, I'm looking for a sbf file for my Defy (not +, red lens) with a CG version 5 or higher.
It's because I bricked my Defy so I flashed this sbf : JORDN_U3_97.21.51
It's US T-Mobile version so I can't phone in France with Orange. Someone told me it's a CG version 5.
If you have a solution to phone with this version in France, I'm taking it too
Thank you
So your phone is working but you have no signal or what?
ehhm, what do you want to do ???
is your phone booting and ready to go on the home screen? then you don't have to flash any sbf ...
if you can not call due to wrong baseband, there is a tool calles "Defy Baseband Switcher", that changes the Baseband to e.g. france orang version ...
hoped to help you ... and if so, please click "thanks"-button
The ~ same thing
I accidentaly installed the CM9 kernel when i should have installed the CM7 one with ICS. Then i made a nandroid restore of my previous CM7. Than... phone dead. Starting but no CWM no ROM booting.
As i have had CM7 with GB kernel i flashed ( not knowing) an old SBF than didn't booted. I tried the US T-Mobile 2.5.1. It boots, i can root it, install CWM.
But than when i try to install a CM7 nightly ( installed ok) it dies again. Starts but No CWM no Rom booting.
What to do? I don't know what SBF to flash or what method to install?

I tried Defy Baseband Switcher but it doesn't work. Thank you anyway.
SBF
You can download all the SBF's from the Wiki Page( Defy General Thread). But you are in my case. I have a thread opened in the Q&A. That SBF you installed is dreadful. So after 2 nights of searching until 4 am i got smth to work. For the record i didn't install a GB SBF. I wanted a Froyo one. The one that worked for me is this one > http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1&highlight=cg
Follow the first guide. Go to Recovery Wipe data/cache, reboot with volume up pressed. Enter programming. Flash SBF. It starts in Chinese. Don't worry. On the first screen you see press the button/box (with Chinese writing) in the middle of the screen> select English> then Next> then press Later (as you don't need the MotoBlur crap). Than Root it with Superoneclick, install CWM and flash whatever ROM you like.
Warning: Do not turn the flash on the camera. With the Kernel on this SBF you will burn it. Install another Froyo Kernel with your ROM. Don't know how> ask.
Thank you but your link is dead...
Link update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486731&highlight=cg
The one you installed is BL5. You can try the froyo above. Or someone PM'ed a couple o minutes ago with this option for the Eclair SBF:Root, install the cwm. Then wipe data, install kernel don't reboot and install cm7. I tried it and it did not work but maybe it works for you. Also if you don't know how to root the Eclair sbf you must do the following> Flash 2.21 , Run the archive(USB debugging On), let it finish/close by itself, flash the 2.51. Sorry, i can't attach files.. will try later

[Q] Help with flashing an old defy

Hi all, a friend of mine has a green lense defy thats been flashed with the
JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf and I wanted to see if I could bring it up to date for him. He doesnt use it so its just a side project to see what we can do with it. I researched it and see that this .sbf can make it difficult to flash and you need certain .sbf files to make it work. I'd like to get MS2Ginger 3.0 running with the green lense fix. I've tried the .sbf's from the ROM thread but they only give me a Moto logo bootscreen and freezes. I've searched the threads and tried a few different .sbf's and also a nandroid backup method but the only thing that gets the phone to boot is the JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf flash. Can somebody help me find what I need or point me in the right direction? I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
see if this helps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659043&page=2
Once I had to rescue red defy with that Chinese eclair CG5 sbf you mentioned. So my proposal is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982 post 1 / Common Problems / Questions = Method 2. - go through all points as stated
I used it and then flashed different CM7 & CM9 without any problem with CM7 and CM9 kernels
The sbf mentioned in item 1. is the same as yours

[Q] DEFY Becomes DEAD After Flash-- Help

Hey..
I'm not sure which official ROM was on my phone before (its my brother's phone).
In any case, I tried the "latest" ROMs from this list [http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordan/list.php] but they all end up with black screen after successful flash.
The only ROM that DOES work, is JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf, however its ECLAIR, and I can't seem to be able to upgrade it to ANYTHING else (I install 2ndinit, and from there i've also tried countless roms through recovery).
Any help will be appreciated.
Please ask all questions in the Q&A section. Thread moved there.
I'll answer myself (found in on by searching, although there are COUNTLESS similar threads, most answers did not work for me at first).
I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486731&highlight=bl6+downgrade to take back my defy to a froyo-version which contains Bootloader 6 but still a froyo OS.
Then I installed 2ndinit, and put on a new ROM through recovery.
