Dual Boot androids from 1sdcard - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi
Tried to search for quite a while now.
Unsuccessfully.
so I'll ask; is it possible to dual boot the HTC hd2...
.......with two versions of android BOTH on the sdcard.
not different cards. The same on (assuming there's enough space)
Sorry if there's a previous thread: couldn't find it.
Many thanks

Yes. One method is to use two NativeSD ROMs. Higher the class sdcard the better it works.
All you need to do is install the NativeSD ROMs in the ext4 partition and then when you want to change from rom1 to rom2 you just launch the application, choose rom2 and reboot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869673

thanks very much to that/

you can even triple boot
try the links below, it might help

thanks for that! i had no clue but triple boot would be great!
one for daily use, one for performance, and one for testing!:highfive:

Some guys have around 12 android native sd roms running from same sd card and wp7 running from nand
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk 2

i've currently managed five android roms on an 8gb sdcard, with extremely high performance on all but one.
however, from what i've heard, and read you need a lot larger sdcards, often just for one or two roms. could u please explain whats going on? and what does the card class have to do with it? cosidering you have 3 hd2s in the family, all with high level mods, i'm sure you know

You will need atleast 1 gb per rom to install more apps...so partition according to your needs...remaining fat 32 portion is common to share between the rom s installed..so if you want lot of music or movies, naturally you will need more...also if you have wp7 on nand, you will need another partition for that..so you probably will need larger card...
I have 16 gb cards with wp7, 2 native sd android rom
Class 4 atleast will ensure better speed..use sandisk...

[Request]Dual boot WP7/Android NAND and Android SD (Only one working SD rom)

I'm making this thread here because I can't see anything being done to remedy this problem.
I have tried more than 5 roms that I have used in the past in SD era with MAGLDR 1.12 in the option "AD SD" and none worked. This SHOULD be easy, but it's not.
I have tried to change kernels for the new ones, thinking this would be the right way to do so, since the old ones expected haret and windows to work. This didn't work too.
To name a few...
NexusHD2-FRG83D V1.8 from Tytung (the best in the old days for a clean froyo, IMHO)
MDJ Desire HD 4.6
Topia HD and others...
None of them worked, the ONLY ONE that worked was [DL DesireZ v2.1][SD/NAND] (note, not tested version 2.2, ONLY 2.1)
It took a looong time to boot, but worked fine.
Now that we have WP7 (not everyone will want this permanently) we should have SD roms that are compatible with MAGLDR. Even because MAGLDR is way faster than waiting for WM 6.5 to boot.
I loved WM 6.5 in the days, but now, several of us don't want to deal with it anymore, and are just here for the two new OSs.
I would like to see some development in the SD ROMs again, so they can have newer and better kernels (the ones used with MAGLDR) and full compatibility with future development for MAGLDR and NAND.
We could even have two Android builds, for those who don't want WP7.
One for NAND and one for SD, like a Gingerbread and a stabler Froyo
Anyone agree with it?
Greetings, Santroph.

Problem:
Phone7 formats the sd card in an unknown file format.
That makes it presumably impossible to linux to load from there...
You would have to switch sd card
I agree with the suggestion of having dual boot (WP7/Android), in fact I even thought about it yesterday ...
What about having 3 partitions on SD ? 2 for WP7 and 1 for Android ...

Yeah I know about this, but several of us, myself included have several SD cards.
I can pass for the trouble of changing SD cards from time to time to boot a completly different OS, with several other possibilities.
And I was talking about Android NAND / Android SD combinations as well.
Like I said we could have a Gingerbread experimental in nand, but keep a really stable Froyo in SD as our main build, or the other way around, a lot of us have big enough cards to do that.
Santroph.
I'm tested lot android SD too.
PSfreedom worked only but if the DL DesireZ v2.1 is working..what's the problem?

The problem is that we only have a few SD roms working. And for example DL DesireZ v2.1 works, but DL DesireZ v2.2, which is newer and just lauched, doesn't work, the support is gone
And we don't have as much roms as we had to choose in the past. I am trying to use WP7, to see if it is a viable alternative to my daily use, but I don't want to give up Android. Since we can't have WP7 and AD Nand at the same time, SD is the only alternative, and we have to get whatever is working instead of a lot of good builds like we have in Nand now.
If the devs start to make more sd builds closer to the Nand ones (same kernels and modules, which they can do now, since they will all be using the same hardware startup MAGLDR) we would have a lot of alternatives too.
Like I said, one of the best roms we ever had, tytung NexusHD2 froyo, doesn't work.
Santroph.
P.S: I'm willing to help any dev that need help. I'm a developer too, but a software one, not a cooker
I'm not a dev but I try to get it ...I took 4GB sd and booted wp7, connect sd via usb reader to pc, copied the wp7 filesystem to my 16gb sd card...wp7 says I got 3.5GB disk space ^^...means: wp7 uses 3.5GB, 11,5GB free sd space . formatted other partition as fat32, but windows7 didn't find it. Now I'm trying around to get it working ...will post news
EDIT: WP7 got 3.5GB disk space, now booting MDJ Froyo HD 4.6 from sd card ...So I got WP7/ Android dualboot

I succeed to flash WP7 rom without SD card inserted. Inserting back the SD card after installation shows that SD storge with full size(not under WP7) and SD android rom (DL DesireZ v2.1) works fine with MAGLDR 1.12. Booting WP7 again will not destroy it, too. This may be a temporary method, while the free space left in WP7 becomes around 130MB which may not satisfy many demands .
was the WM7 functional?
http://www.darkforcesteam.com.cn/thread-25910-1-1.html
I'm going to attempt those steps tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll be following them properly as the translation isn't too good.
But maybe someone else can understand it and translate it properly

in WP7 installation steps it is mentioned that if you remove the sd card the windows will be destroyed? can you please confirm that after trying android and going back to WP7 there are no issues?
I agree... we need more devs developing for sd android again.

Can you please make a kind of Tutorial?
I understood what you said, and I can probably replicate it (surely will try) but some people would be really glad to have a tutorial.
I have a single problem with your approach, my biggest card, the 16gb one, was the one used for WP7, so I will have to reformat, and since I already got my WP7 working with marketplace and activated, I don't want to mess with it.
If I only had used the 8gb or 2gb card, I would be able to do it....
Santroph.
The best way to know how to do this, would be to have a HD2 that has not a fully working copy of WP7, so we can test it as much as we can.
The biggest problem for me now, is that I don't have how to make a backup of my WP7 installation, or else I would do it and make a tutorial on how to use the dual boot.
Even with the option of using only one card, the SD rom version must be compatible, which in the present time, they are not (most of them).
Santroph.
i've readed all of thread.. but yet i don't understand if it works or not.. especially with ike2903 tutorial to format SD card method...

[Q] HELP!! I was going good until these came along!!!

Ladies & gentlemen;
Good day!
Well, I am one of those who admire the XDA BIG TIIIMMEE!! However I have an HD2 and managed to have it as a NAND Android after the help of the XDA (as usual of course!) Anyway when I started looking for new ROMs I have noticed that there is new method or way which I do not grasp, comprehend and assimilate AT ALL....ZIP that is, such as [A2SD+], NAND SD and ClockworkMod.Recovery!!!
What is the difference between running Android on NAND & SD with ClockworkMod?!
I am sorry people because truly I must have missed threads or the way of understanding, so hopefully you'll going to be the teacher of mine for now and always!
Could anyone help me as if I am 7 years old?!!!
THANK YOU XDA & Members!!!!
Android nand is running off internal memory. Sd option is what it says, a build running off your sd card opposed to running it with nand.
Thank you for your explanation, but does that mean if the Android runs off internal memory would make the running proccess faster or it would hepl smoothen applications response?! What is the use if I already have the internal memory, wouldn't be even better off?!
Hello
SD Builds start to boot from SD card while being on WM6.5. The hardware shutsdown WinMo and runs Android on it.
NAND Builds run from the internal memory of the phone(just like where WinMo was before)
RAM Builds load all the OS from the SD Card inside the RAM.
[A2SD+] means that you can use a small ext2,ext3 or ext4 partition in your SD Card for increasing your internal storage memory for installing more apps... so this means more internal space.
ClockworkMod is a small linux-based booting utility allowing users to install Android Builds on-the-go which are stored as zip packages on the SD Card. It allows you to install new kernels as update.zip packages as well without having to re-format your entire phone again, or just to erase all personal data on the sd-ext partition.
So, in fact a lot of things have changed in the last 3 months... these are just a few features i can tell you about every method, but at least I hope this will help you to understand quickly a bit about all that.
You know!!?? I Thank you all guys!!!!
NAND runs off the internal memory and even though you get much lower Quadrant scores, NAND is much more responsive and smooth.
The only reason SD based builds get more Quadrant is because of I/O speeds thanks to the SD card.
SD builds are fast, but NAND builds are much SMOOTHER and reliable and if you can do something on SD, you can do it just as well on NAND (gaming for example).

Dual Booting Two Different Android Builds

Like the title states, I'm looking to dual two different android builds on my TMOUS HD2. Just looking for clarifications and other tidbits I should watch out for.
After doing some research, I don't see why its not possible to boot android from SD through magldr. The only snag I really ran into was a disclaimer a dev mentioned, saying that nand kernals don't play well at all with SD based builds? Any other things I should look out for?
Another theoretical question I had: assuming you can boot both android builds from one device... can you use the same ext partition for both builds?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Are you still wanting to keep windows mobile? If thats the case just throw two different builds on your sd card in different folders.
If you want to use magldr then pick any of the nand builds, and then choose an SD build and throw it on the sd card. I suggest a RAM build, they run faster.

[Q] can I run two different android versions ?

I wud like to know that can I run ICS from nand and gb from sd card. I have never tried running from sd card. How good is it as compared to nand install.?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk 2
Yes you can, you can even have multiple ROMS in SD, follow the link below & see how easy it is to put an SD ROM in SD & boot from there.
Of course you can!
Cons of SD version? Might be slower (especially with loading times) if your SD card isn't high quality. Higher battery drain may be present (because SD is being read/written on at all times), but not much.
Apart from that, they're as good as NAND versions.
Of course you can!

[Q] dual boot partition size

hi, i am going in to wm7 again and will dual boot with android.
last time i tried the same a few months ago the partition size for windows 7 had to be bigger than the android/any other one(s)
is this still the case or can the partition be smaller now?
i have a 32gb sd and 'need' more than 20gb for android stuff, music and maps etc.
thanks in advance for any help
you can use smaller WP7 partition
but i recommended better to use 2 sdcard if possible, one for android one for WP7... is few reason why: sdcards work much faster and no fear for loosing android partition when lashing new WP7 ROM...
hi, thanks dxdy for quick answer (1 minute approx)
i hear what you say about the 2 sd cards but its just a pita to carry them both and if i want to play with, er i mean research and investigate, wm7 i just want to hit reboot, select and go.
i didnt have any problems before with the 1 card, just the partition size.
i always have at least 2 or more backups of the card files (and a full image if using wm7) in different places so can recover quite easily even from a complete format.
I've made 8gb for Android (including ext4 1,5 Gb for NativeSD method) and rest for WPH. However I do think you can make Android partition larger. And definitely is much better and comfortable to use one SDcard only.
