Back and Menu button not working after flash - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hoping someone can help me, but after flashing on my i9000m everything seems to work except the back button and menu button. I might have messed up something with touchwiz? But can anyone offer any suggestions on a way to resolve this? When attempting to get to the touchwiz firmware update through phone console nothing seems to happen anymore. Not even sure if this is the cause of the problem really. I have tried flashing a couple different roms (cyanogenmod 9 and 10, aokp) but the back and menu button does not work with any (and worked fine previously with stock). What is interesting is that when a new email or sms is received both buttons light up and remain that way until the message is acknowledged (like the led notification).
I have searched the forums but have not found anything helpful to this issue and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

suggest you revert to stock UGKG3 for i9000M to get things back to normal before trying to upgrade to CM. Do the full wipes before and after flashing
you can get a rescue kit from My Android Collections and or a solution from My Android Solutions
But First powerdown, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT.SD card, press power button for a minute, than powerup without SIM and Ext.SD Card....Do remember to backup your contacts, data, images etc and also your EFS folder before flashing a ROM and make sure you have more than 50% battery charge before you attempt any sort of flashing.

G1 Won't Fully Boot - Backlight Only

Hey there. I've found some similar threads, but nothing exactly matching this situation, so I thought I'd post:
G1, running Cyanogenmod, though I'm not sure of the version. Latest update notice said there were 11 updates available. ( i know, but i couldn't upgrade my sd card yet)
Issue: Phone was fine, but then battery was accidentally removed while powered on (was cleaning camera lense).
Now, Phone will begin booting, and get to the skateboarding android screen, but after that it will just hang, black screen with backlight on.
Home+Power boot will go to control menu. Power + Camera goes to correct screen, also.
Is there any way to fix other than a restore? I can restore if needed, would just rather not since it's always a bit of a pain to set it back up.
thanks for any info! Other issues like this seemed to be posted in this forum, which is why i chose it. please let me know if it should appear somewhere else.

just goto recovery "home + end key" and wipe data + cache + ext and reflash everything. or you cant goto console in recovery and try fix_permissions. it might help
thanks for the suggestion! Trying to do the restores and permission fixes, I've realized that the issue was with the SD card. Apparently it's died on me :-/
partitioning a new SD card got the phone to boot again with all my settings intact, but unfortunately none of my apps.
I hear that the common problem with sd cards is the controller stopping working; does anybody know what my options are for trying to recover the data on it?
Thanks again for the help

[Q] [HELP] A very weird problem with X5 Pro

Have searched the forum and couldn't find any discussion about a similar problem to what i'm having with my phone. This is super weird.
I'm on an official B928 rom. It started some time ago. Whenever i reboot my phone it "resets" to a particular state. Which means - everything i do with my phone before a reboot gets reversed back to a particular state at which my phone "froze". If i delete sms, they come back, if i install programs they are gone, if i uninstall programs - they come back and so on..
I've tried to flash B928 and B552, but i always get an error at the second stage (have tried all possible combinations - with/without the battery, formatting the card). Pink screen is blocked - can't unblock it, because my phone deletes the necessary files after reboot. Can't install CWM for the same reason.
Is that it? I'm out of ideas. If anyone can throw any idea at me or direct me in the right direction i would be very grateful.
Thank you
reboot recovery
advance menu
format /data
take a look if it help
I only have the standard recovery, not cwm, it doesn't have advanced menu.
But even if i try the wipes in it, it does nothing, meaning it doesn't even delete my data.
Thanks
I'm having the same issue with my u8800-51. My thread is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2331209 but no suggestions therein have helped, yet.
Ok, i see. I've seen some people restoring their phones with Acronis, but for this you need a working pink screen, which is a no-go for me..

[q] stuck in bootloop sprint ls980 please help!!!!

OK to start off i am not a noob at this, i have read though the forms and cant seem to find out why my phone will not come out of this bootloop. This started happening 2 days ago when I went to install a new rom on my phone. I powered down my phone, put it in recovery (Twrp), I wiped everything but internal storage. I then processed to flash the new rom. Everything went great. My phone rebooted and worked fine for the first 1 min, when i tried to pull down the notification bar the phone stuck off and went into a bootloop. I then tried to go back to my old rom and had the same problem (notification bar would not pull down). So i went to plan B and used the Back To Stock Form to restore the phone back to stock. The process went smooth as well not a problem at all. When the phone started up it allowed me to set up the voice navigation and name of the phone, as i went to update the prl and profile the phone shut off again, when it turned back on it starts normally and the goes to the lock screen where i am unable to make any iterations with the screen at all besides when it turns the blacklight off, as i try to use the knock on the LED light turns white but the screen will not turn back on (not even with the power button). Then it reboots to the lockscreen again and continues to do it until i manually force it off. I have tried everything from redownloading the firmware files, tried back to stock 3 times, hard factory reset, and reset in recovery mode. My phone is back to stock but i am unable to do anything with it unless i factory reset and go though the set up again, but even then i cant get a connection (even with wifi) without the phone shutting off and rebooting. Everytime the phone reboots the time reads 12:00am and switches to 12:01 really quick. I cant get a connection at ALL (I EVEN TRIED REMOVING THE SIMS AND AND PUT IT BACK IN AFTER BACK TO STOCK PROCESS.)
Im not sure if the application Dr.Web could possibly be making my phone do this. I did have it installed and did not remove before I tried to switch to the new rom. The anti-theft part was active.
SOMEONE PLEASE BE MY HERO AND HELP........I REALLY WOULD HATE TO DEAL WITH LG ON THIS ISSUE IF I CAN FIX IT MYSELF

god that is really hard to read...did you make a back up before you do installation? if so do a restore, if you dint, download another rom, kernel, put it in your phone, wipe everything except internal storage via TWRP then flash rom then kernel.

I did make a backup before flashing the rom. when i tried to go back to it i had the same problem with it rebooting after a few mins. i tried flashing furnace 0.0.8 kernel after installing a fresh rom but same problem. I am back on factory recovery atm is there anyway to flash twrp back to the phone without it being rooted? i tried to get the computer to communicate with the phone when it turns on but it wont seem to connect unless im in download mode or recovery.

I had the same problem except with me, i was just trying to change fonts manually. It went into a bootloop and i stressed dover it for hours until finally i found out that you have to use the lg mobile support tool (you can find it in one of these threads on the lg g2) and revert it back to stock. That fixed it perfectly fine. Its a lengthy process but simple. If that doesn't work you have to do what the lg mobile support tool does semi-manually with another program lg flash tool which is longer but just as simple if you follow the directions given in the thread to the letter.

I did happen to get into settings and seen that both my imei and baseband are unknown. Could this be causeing the proble m? is there any way to fix it?

Yes my phone turns on but doesnt stay on for long it will freeze and reboot i noticed my imei and baseband are unknown. Any idea what can be causeing that to happen? Could it cause the phone to reboot like it is? I am back on stock firmware again,. I did try debugging but still no luck, i was even luck enough to root it again before it rebooted but still didnt help.

**** thats not good at all. This happen when I was using my S3, if IMEI is gone then you could not use the phone at all, theres no way you can get it back unless you made a back up. you have to sent it in man, sorry this is as good as hard brick.

Also when i turn the phone conpletely off and hold down all 3 bottons it brings me to a hardware key settings it does shows my imei number there. If i sent it into lg would they know the phone was once rooted or does the back to stock method cover it up? Thanks for your help btw

they have coders there, I'm sure if they really want to know they can figure it out. If you send it in to get it fix out of your own pockets (meaning you pay them) then i'm sure they dont care, but if you want a replacement due to warranty then it may be a different story.

I eneded up restoreing my phone back to stock and took it into my local sprint store it cost ne 75 dollars to replace the phone not under warranty (if u have sprint protection its free) i told them i took and ota update and it started rebooting itself. If you do get a replacement make sure u back up your efs files to a safe place on your phone. Theses files can become corrupted by flashing roms and kernals.

Not under warranty? Doesn't it have a 1 year manufacturer warranty? The G2 wasn't released on Sprint until November last year so it should have been covered.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk
Yes its still under manufacturer warranty but when i made a repair order with lg it said it would take 2 to 3 weeks to get my phone back and if they found out it was due to being rooted and flashing roms im sure lg would of charged a arm a leg to repair it. With sprint i got a new phone in 2 days or ordering it.

Bootloop after updating to nougat via ota

Just posted this on Lenovo forums, if someone here can help me i would appreciate :
Finally received the Nougat update today via OTA, I had enough battery and space internally and SD so i decided to download and install.
After the install finalized the phone is boot looping, it won't stop, i cant even turn off the phone! I already tried removing the SD and SIM card but it keeps boot looping!
What can I do? I waited ages to receive Nougat and my phone is bricked!
Very important note: XT1572 (Style) I never installed any custom ROM, i never rooted my phone, i don't even know how to do it...so that is not the problem.

Press the power button. Keep it pressed for about 10-12 seconds. Maybe this will help. If this doesn't help press the volume down button and keep it pressed (while phone is bootlooping) it will take you to bootloader menu then press volume down button until you see recovery. When you see recovery press the power button. It will show "no command" then press the power button, keep pressed and press the volume up button twice it will now show you recovery menu. Then navigate using volume button and erase all data. Maybe this will help.

Looks like your bootloader is locked. Sorry but with an locked bootloader i can't think of any ideas.( Don't try to unlock your bootloader unlocking it will erase all your data and void your warranty). You can wait for official fix or take it to a Motorola official repair center. I am not sure that erasing all data will fix your device. And erasing your data won't restore marshmallow (did you write lolipop by mistake? Because you can ota to nougut only from marshmallow i think). It will still be nougut.
Can you tell me how much it boots before restarting. does it shows the boot animation fully?
If it shows boot animation fully than maybe erasing all data can fix it.(I can't say for sure)
I will recommend you to wait for official fix.(If the data on internal storage is very important).

Sadly, warranty expired and here in Mexico will cost me tons of money to repair, I would rather buy a new phone.
About your question:
1. It shows boot animation fully, I can even see the main screen for at least 1.5 seconds (where it asks me for password)
I'll have to try to erase all data, i need my phone for work purposes i cant wait Lenovo for an official fix, im sure it will take AGES for that...f*ck them.
By the way, here's the official response of Motorola Support in Lenovo forums:
It's correct to try removing the SD and SIM cards to attempt to recover the phone. Since it did not work, the next step is factory reset. Are you still able to access wipe data/factory reset in recovery?

Again, thank you mate for trying to help me, i really appreciate :good:
A factory reset may fix it if borked data already on the phone from the previous version or an app is the cause.
I'm gonna have to say a factory reset is going to be the best route as I've had bootloops before with this phone and factory reset has always fixed it.
You "could" try plugging the phone to a computer to see if you can get MTP running and access to the partition and maybe that might stop the loop. During my WM/WP days when flashing my roms and radios, accessing the partition via MTP mode stopped the bootloop.

So far you are the first with bootloop - will not be a fix.
I haven't stock recovery and don't remember - is there option "backup"?
Did you have "google photos app"? You should have all photos on google drive. Check it with pc(www.google..).
Only factory reset you can do for help.
More option has authorized service.
With locked bootloader you can't do anything more.
Thank you all, you were right, I just wiped data and phone is working again, unfortunately lost many important pictures that wasn't saved in the Drive :'(
Anyway, I'm testing nougat, looking good atm
You learned a valuable lesson. Always have more than one backup and always use an SD for the camera. Glad your phone is working again .

^^^ THIS!!!
People need to consider phones for what they are... a big chunk of plastic, metal, and GLASS that we fumble with hundreds of times a day. You need to anticipate it will break, brick, bootloop, get lost, stolen, have an update fail, or whatever once in a while, they are not infallible and neither are we. Be prepared, it doesn't take much and it isn't complicated.
Pictures seem to be the most important things to people... INSTALL GOOGLE PHOTOS and set them to backup automatically, it is super easy, and assuming most people charge at home every night, the most photos you would ever lose are 1 days worth. And go to https://photos.google.com once in a while and open the app once in a while and see if they are backing up.
Install an SD card in your phone, even if it's a little 16GB or something, set it up as portable storage (important), and set the camera to save items there instead of internal memory... This in combination with the above measure will be a 99.9% guarantee you won't lose any pictures or videos.
People seem to really like having SMS and MMS copies, then INSTALL SMS BACKUP & RESTORE by Carbonite and setup daily, weekly, or monthly backups of all your text and picture messages to your online service of choice (I recommend Google Drive). Then log into Drive and check it once in a while.
Use Google's Backup Transport, it's built into Android... it will maintain a list of apps you have installed and if the app developer is relatively current with the features of Android, it will backup your settings too, and in the event you need to restore, factory reset, move to another device, or whatever, you can restore all your apps pretty quickly.
Use the Google services and your account, when creating contacts, calendar appointments, notes, etc... Use the Google account option so contacts and appointments are saved permanently to Google and you can access them from anywhere. Use cloud based services like Keep, Drive, etc. so you always have backups of stuff and avoid apps that don't support Google (or other cloud based) storage for important data.
Other apps have some facilities to backup settings, data, and other things related to the app.
Oh, and keep your Google account secure... know the password, have your backup and recovery information up to date so if you lose the password you can reset it via your work email, a SO's phone number, etc. Your Google account is your key to everything if you follow my suggestions.
All of these things can be done a stock device, without root or anything else special... As much as I hate to say it, if you lose data on your device it isn't Moto's fault, Google's fault, or anything/anyone else's issue, but it's your fault. This is no different than the data on your computer, laptop, tablet, or anything else you might own, it takes a little bit of prep and planning to keep from losing anything.
I have thought to myself many times I should write a tutorial on doing these things, and some other common apps and Android tools to backup data and maintain it automatically, but with the way people blame me sometimes for bricking their device with my other tutorials I have decided not to do so.
It always blows my mind how many of my students post on Facebook that they got a new phone and need them.digits. millennials who are sposed to be so tech savvy cannot turn on the features to backup their address book much less anything else.
Maybe as an early genx myself as I grew up with DOS and windows 1.1 beta o better understand the need for a backup....lol

Touch screen response delay / lag after flashing back to stock

I've been given an OP2 64GB as a project from a friend to try and return to stock and working. It was running a custom ROM which wasn't working particularly well, so I did the full reload to stock 3.0.2 via the Qualcomm download described here by @fareed_xtreme which downloaded okay, booted up, and the touchscreen seemingly didn't work. I've come across that before where there's been driver or firmware mismatches, but then I realised that if I held my finger on the screen for between 2 and 4 seconds, it'd start responding, right up until I let my fingers up off the screen. I could do multiple scrolls by adding a second finger to the mix, and it'd keep responding until I let go, at which point I'd have to hold down for another 2-4 seconds to make it do anything. The digitiser is fine, I enabled the overlays in dev tools (painfully clicking item by item!), and it shows the traces fine. They don't show up at all as screen presses until said delay happens, which is very odd. It also responded fine in the recovery, which was plain odd.
After a while, I tried returning it to 2.2.0 courtesy of @fareed_xtreme's other guide, which then worked fine, booted up, had 2.2.0 installed, touchscreen worked fine. Did notice the baseband version claimed it was unknown, though I'm unsure if this was related to me having no SIMs in it. It did initially offer me an OTA upgrade to the latest Marshmallow, which I allowed it to do, and promptly had the same issues again.
I've tried flashing various ROMs - Resurrection Remix etc, to find they've got the same problem. Any Marshmallow-based ROM seems to suffer from this weird input lag. The capacitive buttons are fine, it's just the display. Also, weirdly, it works if I touch the screen just as I wake the phone with the power button - so I can hit the power button and immediately swipe the lockscreen off, but then it reverts to the previous behaviour.
I've tried re-flashing the firmware for the various ROMs (matching with the installed ROM obviously). I've also repeatedly wiped the system/data/cache partitions etc, and have backups of EFS via TWRP saved off the phone. I also spotted two threads on the OnePlus forums describing this exact issue here and here, both with no solution. I also noticed people have had similar issues long ago when they tried installing H2OS and then returning to stock, without doing the full qualcomm download, but they seemed to be mostly solved with the full ROM reload and a cache wipe.
My next step is to flash back to 2.2.0, and incrementally upgrade with the OTAs, see if it works, but I suspect the second I make the jump to 3.0.2, I'll lose the touchscreen again. I've left it OEM unlocked, and got TWRP and original recoveries available.
To be honest, worst case, I just reflash the phone back to the final 2.x version, at least it actually works then, but... I'd really love to know why I can't fix this, and what the actual issue is, if anyone out there knows. There doesn't seem to be much on here in the way of people experiencing the issue - either that, or my search-fu has repeatedly failed me. My gut feeling is something kernel/driver related, but I don't understand why it wouldn't get fixed with the full firmware download via QC.
Help me, XDA, you're my only hope!

I would suggest you to open a ticket with OnePlus Support (Live Chat). Inform them of the touchscreen scenario (Do not mention about the Quallcomm Flashing or they may start giving you a hard time for taking matters in your own hands). They will schedule you for the process and hopefully, they may be able to resolve it possibly with a newer Stock Reset.
Cheers, I'll give them a shot!
Unfortunately got no dice there - they reflashed it with OnePlus2_14_A.27_161227 (annoyingly, didn't get the decrypted files due to a screwup with my file mirroring), but still had precisely the same issue, up-to-date, no working touchscreen. If I can't get it working, it's not the end of the world, it's more annoying me that I can't figure it out... suggestions of a ROM to flash that might work would be most welcome!
