[Q] Restore deleted files

I have deleted several apps from my Iconia and now would like to restore them in order to get the coming upgrade. My tablet is rooted, and I attempted to use adb to push a sample file "LetsGolf.apk" to \system\app but the file system seems to be protected.
Can anyone tell me how to restore these files?

Have you tried using apps like Astro file manager or Root Explorer. I have always had good luck with those.

[Q] Cannot delete some folders

So I have a few folders which cannot be deleted. ES file explorer just says xxx cannot be deleted. I can rename the folder but not move or delete. I'm guessing there is a problem with one of the files in the folder but there are loads.
I origionally rooted the nexus 7 so I could use sixaxis but found too much lag compared with plugging in the controller so decided to return to a stock image. I did an app+data+sd card backup with nexus tools and it was after doing this I have had this problem. (also most of my games which I backed up lost their saves - wheres my water, dead trigger + others is this normal for these games?)
Any advice much appreciated
(oh since applying the stock image I no longer have root)

Could be a file permissions problem, try rooting your device again then changing permissions on the files to give yourself full read/write access to these files.
If this doesn't work you could try deleting them through the command line, but this would also require you to root your device again.

Hi thanks for your suggestion. I completely forgot I posted this. Anyway I rooted my device using the toolkit and all worked well. But I still cannot delete many folders and files and also some apps don't seem to be able to save properly.
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong? Apart from this the system is stable and I would rather not do a fresh install because of all the games I have (long downloads and I have had problems backing up and restoring saves in the past) is there a way to just set all the files and folders on my phone to read / write (es file explorer reports these files have the required permissions but maybe setting them might do something)

[Q] Unable to see the Clockworkmod folder in windows or on the phone

Hey guys.
First of all, sorry if this has been asked before. I googled a lot and searched here and couldn't find this particular problem.
My Nexus 4 is running stock 4.2. Unlocked bootloader, rooted and running ClockworkMod 6.0.1.9. Everything worked perfectly. My only problem right now is, after making a nandroid backup, I cannot see the clockworkmod folder anywhere on the phone when browsing either in windows or with ES File Explorer. I think by now I looked everywhere. Everything else in this regard seems to work fine, I can copy files, the other folders are all correct etc. I can also see and delete/restore the backup in CWM recovery. All I want is to see the folder to get it off the phone. Any ideas?

You can find it in mnt/shell/emulated it is protected so you will need a file explorer that can give you root access. I use ES File Explorer.

Is there any way to copy those CWM backup folders to your computer? I tried to use Root Explorer to move the backup folders to the main sdcard/0 folder but I still cannot see it when I move the file Am I doing something wrong or is it not possible to move it to the sdcard/0?

Yeah I'm also still not too sure how to get it off the phone easily.

easiest way would probably be to just use the toolkit, unless you're opposed to such things.

Is this why ROM manager can't delte my backups? It seems them but I get an error saying "there was an error deleting your backup"

man we need to get it move to a pc. i'd like to save some space since its our phone have maximum 12.9gb at our disposal.
btw, i tried Root Browser Lite to move it on sdcard area... operation failed

I had the same problem. My internal SD card just kept getting fuller and fuller with ClockwordMod. And, when I tried to copy the files from /mnt/shell/emulated/clockwork to my comp, and copy them back to the SD card to try and Restore, I ended up with corrupted files.
So, rather than fight it, I decided to wait until Clockwordmod recovery got its storage/mount point issues straightened out, and moved to the TWRP side of things. That has been seamless (once I got used to it).
I hope that they soon figure out the Clockwordmod issues; I liked having ROM Manager installed on past phones.
Btw, as an aside that is a little related, why, pray tell, are there so many mount points for the SD card? It's just weird.

just navigate the clockwordmod folder in your phone and copy it to the root of the internal memory.. connect the phone via usb into the computer and copy it

BY FAR the easiest way: in ROM Manager, Manage and Restore Backups>Download Backups>Open your desktop browser on the address informed by ROM Manager to download your backup.

Thanks to everyone, going to the directories works and the rom manager app is aware of the new cwm backup folder.

CWM Recovery Issue

I have been reading about how people (including myself) are having issues mounting the SD card with CWM Recovery 6.x.xx and I was wondering where (if it exists) I can find an earlier version for my Nexus 4. The problem I am having is when my phone is connected to my computer, I cant find the Clockwork Mod file to remove the backup from the device. I have the 8GB N4, so I really want to remove it, put it somewhere safe and not have it take up precious space.
If anyone has any thoughts or other solutions, please let me know. I am also having the same issue with TWRP2 (cant mount while in recovery).

Just download Astro file manager from the Play Store and find the backup and delete it. You can also delete the backup from in recovery as well.

I have Root Explorer and can't find the folder on my /sdcard. If I could, I could take the backup and move it, but it doesn't seem to be visible.
I have been thinking, do I need to be rooted to be able to access the folder, or see it for that matter?
And as a side note, I tried TWRP2 and I can see the folder with backups made.

I had this same issue as I'm using CWM 6.0.2.0. For whatever reason, they changed the saved backups location to /data/media/clockworkmod now so you can't access it by plugging in your phone because the backups aren't on the sdcard. That's also the reason you can't find it. To my knowledge, you can do two things to get them to your computer:
1. Use ADB to pull the clockworkmod folder to your computer. I still haven't completely figured out how to do that yet as I don't screw around in ADB shell too much and I'm not sure if you have to mount the filesystem before doing it. I'm sure if you search around, you could find the ADB solution.
2. (This solution sucks but it works...) If you have a file manager (like X-plore) and root access, you can copy the contents of /data/media/clockworkmod folder to the sdcard location on your phone. Once it's there, THEN you can access that copy when it's plugged into your computer. Then just get rid of the .nomedia file in the folder and move it from your sdcard to your PC. Simple but takes forever for the files to copy depending on how many backups your moving and how big your blobs folder is.
If someone knows a better way, I'm definitely all ears. Really don't like how they changed CWM to this new style. Makes it a pain to offload backups from your phone to your PC.

I use ROM manager to connect to the server and download my nand directly to my PC.

You have an option in cwm uder the backup menu to remove the backups or unused data. It works for me.

Didn't even know you could do that. I always just boot to CWM, never use the ROM manager app. That sounds like a paid feature or is it on the free version?
Edit: Yeah, it's a paid feature but I'm seriously considering going this route since it's so damn handy. If I can't figure out how to ADB it, I may just buy the premium version. Thanks bro.

Hatzy, you can pull the backups using insecure adbd by chainfire [app]. Otherwise, you can only pull sdcard. Or, i believe you can pull via the path /mnt/shell/emulated..

So, after doing some looking... I thiink my best bet is to use Rom Manager's new Download Server feature. I'll give it a try and let everyone know how it works out!!

Can't see all the files/folders in windows explorer

have a recently rooted nexus 4.2.2 and did a nandroid backup using clockwork recovery. clockwork stored it into a directory which i can't access by just plugging my phone to the usb cable of my pc. i do see folders, but not that particular folder. i have usb debugging option turned on also. i just wanted to transfer the backup files to my pc for storage. is there a way to do this? thank you.

You can't see it because windows can't access those folders. You can either move the backups using a file explorer to a folder windows can access, pull the files using ABD or if you have the paid version of ROM Manager you can download the files to your pc using a browser.

I figured it was something of that nature. However I have downloaded different file explorers including the es file explorer and I still can't see the folders on my phone even, not just pc. But when I boot into clockwork recovery and browse through there I can see those folders. I'm at a loss.

With ES File Explorer I had to turn on the root explorer option in the settings, the world and phone icon at the top left..

yes, i did that as well, but it still doesn't let me see the directories that i see in clockwork. the directories i'm talking about are in /sdcard.. they are
- 0/
- clockworkmod/
- legacy/
- obb/
the only ones i can see are 0/ and legacy/. if i go to 0/ i can see what i normally see in the pc windows explorer. there is also a folder called clockworkmod/ but it only contains the folder called download/ and a couple of files under 100kb.
also, when i'm viewing the folders in ES file manager the sdcard folder has a little shortcut arrow on it instead of a solid folder like most of the other ones.

I can't speak for the intricacies of Clockworkmod as I have never used it, but after doing either a TWRP backup or a Titanium backup on 4.2.2, I have always been able to copy and/or view these backup files using any of the following methods, as well as verifying that they are equivalent (Same exact number of files, same exact file sizes):
1) Copying the files from the Nexus 4 to Windows 7 64 bit Professional using Microsoft Windows Explorer.
2) Copying the files from the Nexus 4 to Windows 7 64 bit Professional by performing an "adb pull".
3) Viewing the files with the Android ES Explorer app (With the "Root Explorer" option turned on and changing the top directory to root or "/").
4) Viewing the files in TWRP.
I also use the full path to the files (when possible). As I recall, there were instances where not all the files were visible if I didn't use the full path. Replacing /0 with /legacy on Android 4.2:
TWRP BACKUP
/data/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/<PHONE SERIAL# HERE>/<FILE BACKUP SUBDIRECTORY HERE>/
TITIANIUM BACKUP
/data/media/0/TitaniumBackup/

the thing is i can't see the directories that the files are in. either in file explorer or in windows. i need to get more familiar with adb and maybe do it through that, but its strange because i should be able to see them in the explorer. so essentially i have a nandroid backup on my phone that i can't really access to move it or delete it. i can only access it through clockwork recovery. also, all the stuff i used is the latest versions i.e. sdk, drivers, etc.

Then I am at a loss if you tried all the things mentioned. If it is a permission issue, then adb should bypass that problem. The adb executable is located in the platform-tools subdirectory of the SDK. You run the "adb pull" command from a "Command Prompt" window while located in that directory. The nandroid copy will take quite a while, so wait until it is finished (For example, my latest one was 330 MB in size).
While the phone is in recovery, here are some examples of grabbing the TWRP and TITANIUM backup files and putting them into the directories TWRP_BACKUP and TITANIUM_BACKUP respectively (That I previously created) on the windows "C" drive. As before, you would probably be replacing /legacy for /0:
adb pull /data/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/<PUT SERIAL # OF PHONE HERE>/<PUT DATE OF BACKUP HERE>/ C:\TWRP_BACKUP\

Clockworkmod puts the backups in a secure system folder with the path mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup. In ES File Explorer hit the "/" at the top which will open up "device" and now you will see all of your system folders. Root Explorer is a simpler app to use as it only has two directory options, root and storage. I bought both apps a long time ago as I liked that ES File Explorer lets you connect to a lan to upload/download files through wifi.

i have root explorer that i purchased a couple years ago as well. doesn't show me the path you mention. neither does the ES File Explorer. this is why it puzzles me since my phone is rooted. when i look in ES File Explorer and choose "/" as my starting point, i do see all the folders, however, the clockworkmod folder doesn't contain the "backup" folder. it has only "download" folder and a couple of files ".recovery_version" and ".settings".. nothing else.

I posted picks of the folders in ES File Explorer. In the clockworkmod folder I have 2 subfolders, download and backup.

I looked in su and I have three apps listed there: root explorer, titanium backup, and es file explorer. I don't see those folders that you have in your screenshots. What app do you use for that? I'll take a screenshot of what I have.
Edit: I reinstalled the file explorer and rebooted the phone and I can see the mnt directory now. Don't know why it wasn't showing up. Thank you for the help.

Glad you got it worked out. To take screen shots press and hold the power button and volume down at the same time. My photos automatically upload to dropbox and I just attached them from there to my post.

all you need to do is go into your file browser on your phone and then move the file somewhere else while still connected to the pc.. should be good then
