[Q] Andoid on HD2

Ok i rooted a bunch of android phones but this is my first winmo phone. so i am a noob to this. I just need some clarification on porting android to the hd2. In order to port android i must flash a custom winmo rom and load android as kind of like a "secondary" OS right?
So everytime I reboot my phone I must reboot it into winmo and then load android? And is there currently or is anyone working on a way to boot straight into android?
Sorry for asking so many questions and sounding like a noob but I just want to be 110% clear before I try anything.
I believe there are android roms that boot right into android.
In order to run Android:
1. you need to go through the [BUILD]s in the Android Development section... located in the other HD2 area.
2. Unless otherwise instructed by the build creater, you need to make an Android folder on your SD card, and copy the contents of the build into that folder.
3. If you have an "Android Friendly" ROM, there will be an icon already to start Android, which will auto-run the CLRCAD.exe (for sound to work) & HaRet.exe (which loads Android) If you are on a Stock ROM, or one that does not have the Android loader, then you will either need to run those in order manually (CLRCAD then HaRet) or download the Android loader applet (in the Android Development section)
4. If you want Android to load automatically, there are custom ROMs found in the Android Development section that are setup for this purpose, HOWEVER, you will need to make sure that it's TMOUS HD2 compatible
5. if you experience "issue xyz" be sure to check the Android Development section, as they have probably already addressed it
ok thanks so much im gonna be porting android over as soon as i get home from work today hopefully i do it without screwing anything up lol
Will Android work w/Outlook sync? Also, are you still able to tether with Android? I've searched around but haven't found the answer. If no for either then that will be the deal breaker for me. Thanks in advance

it does work with ActiveSync, it that's what you're asking?
as for the tethering, look in the build notes.... they give a list of options that do & don't work.

nice thing is, if something does get messed up, reboot format the sd, put the build on and try again ;-p since it runs off of the sd and not ROM, there's little chance of doing something a reset can't fix

Hey, thanks for the info. I appreciate it!

Just installed Froyostone's ROM (WOW) - New to Android questions

OK, I just installed the latest Froyostone android and WOW ! This is quite incredible, it's a fully functional Android on my HD2 ! Runs even faster than WM !
I didn't find any bugs yet...
Few questions..
1. Does this run from the SD ? Or did it install to the main device ROM when I first launched it ?
2. What does that mean in terms of rooting, getting in recovery, etc ? Do I need to "root" it ? How do I get in Recovery to type all sorts of commands that I see on guides ?
3. From what I can see, appstore apps install to the root SD card - That can get messy.. any way around it ?
4. Is EVERYTHING related to Android on my HD2 inside the "Android" folder in the SD card ?
5. Top 5 apps to install for a fresh Droid HD2 ?
6. Any other useful words for a beginner ?
7. Is it safe to charge in Android ?
8. I always have to boot WM first to launch Android right ?
THANKS
Read the stickies they contain all the information you have just asked
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Promise to look around in the 80 pages of that thread (Someone should make a FAQ out of it)
But if anyone have a couple minutes for me I would really appreciate it !
Thanks for looking !
EDIT - OHHHH the sticky on the DEV forum !!! I gotcha, Will get to it now thanks !!

2. What does that mean in terms of rooting, getting in recovery, etc ? Do I need to "root" it ? How do I get in Recovery to type all sorts of commands that I see on guides ? not sure what you mean
3. From what I can see, appstore apps install to the root SD card - That can get messy.. any way around it ? nope, but I always make a backup of my SD card, you get used to seeing all kinds of folders, but you can still run your WM and android with the same SD card no problem, just make sure before adding a new Android build, start with a fresh formatted SD, then install android, then drag and drop all your other files back onto the SD card.
4. Is EVERYTHING related to Android on my HD2 inside the "Android" folder in the SD card ? Nope will be all over the place
5. Top 5 apps to install for a fresh Droid HD2 ? Setcpu, angry birds demo, Laputa reader, radiotimeplayer, Swype keyboard
6. Any other useful words for a beginner ? play about, enjoy the marketplace, its not 100% perfect yet, but getting there.
7. Is it safe to charge in Android ? yep
8. I always have to boot WM first to launch Android right ?yep, but android is so stable you dont have to do this much YEP
THANK you for your time !!
Re #2 - I mean in some Android tutorials I see you can input command lines etc, to change system settings, while in "recovery mode"
How do I get to " android recovery mode" with the HD2 ? No biggie though.
Re #3, Do you just Backup your stuff (Music, books, etc) and then, before installing new Android, do you just format and put the new Android folder on there ? You totally discard the application folders and start clean ?
I see there is a way to backup some of the settings in the sticky, so I will read it.
SetCPU I assume is to lock the Leo on it's max speed, like LeoCPUSpeed for WM- Nice.
Thank you very much again lad !

#2 the ROMs are already rooted, all you need is a terminal emulator from the market.
Nice, thanks !
I am trying to install a pre-made script (exe), it should install some stuff automatically (lang, keyboard etc) and the guy who made it says you must run it in recovery mode for it to work.
How do I use the script on my HD2 ?
Thanks ! I'm lovin' android so far.

TroubleInstalling android market and the google services on honey comb nook color 1.2

Hey everyone, i am new to this forum and i am seeking the help of people who are familiar with with process of soft rooting a nook color 1.2 with honeycomb. I am not skilled in the area of rooting at all so i am pretty surprised that i have made it as far as i have, but i have somehow ran into a wall that i cannot surpass. I managed to get the honeycomb software onto a 4gb sd card and uploaded it onto my nook, but my honeycomb did not come with the android market or google services framework. I am currently struggling trying to transfer the "honeygapp install" onto my nook but the adb pathway seems to not be set up. I have followed the instructions and my computer recognizes the nook nc as an android device but when i do the command prompt "commands" it doesnt work. I think there is something wrong with my pathway, im not sure an i have no clue how to figure it out. someone please help me
Still no luck......... anyone willing to help?
sounds like the GAPPS,,,try re formatting the sd card??

[Q] Dual Booting (from SDCARD) WM6.5 and a NAND based ROM? (eg. HyperDroid CM7)

Hi,
Might by NOOBISH but I have searched and searched for a way to do this, I love Hyperdroid-CM7 but I need to be easily able to access my home network and home pc with WM6.5 and stream video, file exchange etc...
How do you make a NAND based ROM like Hyperdroid CM7 run in dual boot using Haret/Loader off your SDCard?
I have read some details on the Hyperdroid development page, but nothing step by step that I could follow or easily understand.
As far as I get it you unzip the NAND ROM .zip into /Android on your SDCARD, then put haret and CLRCAD on either SDCard or in the /Android folder too...
Done this but when I run Haret it asks for a default.txt file??
Any Help would be much appreciated...

?? why you think that with Android you wont be possible to stream video file exchange etc? i think you should take a deeper look on Android OS
and to be able to boot from SD a NAND based ROM i believe you have to do some coding cause haret all its do is just run the rom, now if the rom is coded to boot in NAND its differed. (Don't believe me in this part haha don't know much but i will advise you to take a better look on ANDROID cause it can co-operate with you pc for your files, video, media etc )

Thanks, Yeah I thought that Android would have a network file manager, as it's Linux based, and my daughters net book runs Linux NetBook Remix (which highly recommend btw!) - but that allows me to go straight on to my Windows Network via wi-fi and mess around with files on my PC and stream etc.
OK so here's the question, if I go 100% Android to run my fave NAND build, what App/Apps do I need to stream music/video and move files around on my PC via my phone?
(I don't mean remote desktop, although some idea of apps for remote desktop would be nice too )
Cheers.
- Again I searched a lot for decent network file manager I can run from the Droid, not much luck, I heard VLC can be good to Stream Videos etc, looking into this one...
Please Recommend some Apps somebody!

Your a star mate, that looks like just what I need!!
-------------------
Again *bump* if anyone does have any ideas of actual APPS that allow network file management from the Android phones that would be great!..? (Then my need for a dual boot would be nill)...
you can use every filemanager (es, mega, oi, etc.) which supports smb-shares. simply connect to your windows-networkshare and use what ever app (mediaplayer, gallery, etc.) to "stream" your files. you can even mount those smb-shares as folders into your folder-structure of android. if you do so you can use the share like the files where on your phone. at least esfilexplorer can mount smb-shares to local folders. i am not sure about the others.

[Q] best way to get free books

i booted off a class 10 memory card and and haveing issues with wifi now is that just because of the card or can i do something so i dont have to by a new one, aloso im not exatly happy with the OS i wrote
genric-sdcard-v.1.3.0-large.img with what should i put on the sdcard after that update-cm.1.3.0-encore? or something else that would make it ezer tio read pdf files baceause that is another problem (reading downloaded books) and the final and most important problem it when i take out the sdcard it wont reboot to the nook os it just goes to the grey n screen......long story short i just want to download free books on my nook i know how to write and get the os to show up i just want to know the programs and were to get them pleases help
To answer the question that is in the headline:
You need to install a reading app that can handle the format you want to read. If you have your Android environment running you downlad the app and install it. Apps can be downloaded from Google or sideloaded if you find the apk somewhere else (tere are plenty of reading apps in Google Play store, so no need to go looking elsewhere in my opinion).
As for the rest, it sounds to me like you haven't done all steps of the sd-card install. What OS did you put there? CM7? Hard to tell by your post. Could you maybe clarify what you've actually done, not just with the card but with the device. Do that in post with a more appropriate headline if you want to ask for guidance.
Before thaat, read the first post in this topic and make sure you've actually done the steps necessary to get an OS running from sd-card (if that is what you want to do):

I tell you what. If you'll spend at least as much time formulating and formatting your question(s) with enough information (and punctuation) to allow them to be answered, you'll get a lot of help. Questions that sound like "it's broke, please fix it" won't get far.
