i booted off a class 10 memory card and and haveing issues with wifi now is that just because of the card or can i do something so i dont have to by a new one, aloso im not exatly happy with the OS i wrote
genric-sdcard-v.1.3.0-large.img with what should i put on the sdcard after that update-cm.1.3.0-encore? or something else that would make it ezer tio read pdf files baceause that is another problem (reading downloaded books) and the final and most important problem it when i take out the sdcard it wont reboot to the nook os it just goes to the grey n screen......long story short i just want to download free books on my nook i know how to write and get the os to show up i just want to know the programs and were to get them pleases help

To answer the question that is in the headline:
You need to install a reading app that can handle the format you want to read. If you have your Android environment running you downlad the app and install it. Apps can be downloaded from Google or sideloaded if you find the apk somewhere else (tere are plenty of reading apps in Google Play store, so no need to go looking elsewhere in my opinion).
As for the rest, it sounds to me like you haven't done all steps of the sd-card install. What OS did you put there? CM7? Hard to tell by your post. Could you maybe clarify what you've actually done, not just with the card but with the device. Do that in post with a more appropriate headline if you want to ask for guidance.
Before thaat, read the first post in this topic and make sure you've actually done the steps necessary to get an OS running from sd-card (if that is what you want to do):

I tell you what. If you'll spend at least as much time formulating and formatting your question(s) with enough information (and punctuation) to allow them to be answered, you'll get a lot of help. Questions that sound like "it's broke, please fix it" won't get far.

[Q] need help with x8, I am VERY confused.. some programs now dissapeared

hello people, this is my first post here. It's been a week since I got a new x8, and I can't seem to get going with it, I'm always hounded with problems. Before posting I looked up the web for possible answers on my questions and queries, but I found too many guides and I don't know which to follow. I'm a former symbian user, and to be honest I'm a little dissapointed with the android's complexity. Here are some of what i'm curious about.
-.JAR/JAVA programs. I could only find J2ME runner, but in order to convert my .jar to apk it needs to connect to the internet? Isn't there an offline process/another program that runs .jar files?
-CANNOT save to memory card. It's frustrating. all games I install come straight to the phone memory, is there a real way to transfer it to my memory card?
-NO multi-touch. I don't know why but upon reading I found out that an early prototype of the x8 had multi-touch, but now it has none.. any way to activate this?
-GAMES always demand to connect to the internet to download additional data.
-INTERNET connects automatically from the start, IDK why,
sorry If i have lots of questions, and sorry for my english it's not my native language.. Hope I get help here.. Thank you very much and I hope the developers here continue on excelling on their work.
EDIT: now I have managed to root using superoneclick, installed busybox, and the xrecovery. I managed to go to the recovery and install the apps2sd, it said successful but it still installs to phone memory. I now installed link2sd, did a partition on my sd card, but when I rebooted my x8 everything on the sd card was gone, and some of the programs installed on the phone memory doesn't display their icons.. what happened? I need help.. thank you again..

About the java programs, i do not know.
Saving to SD is not a feature in Android 2.1. However, you can get it to work by rooting your phone and installing Apps2sd. There is several guides here on how to do it.
The digitizer is capable for multi/dual touch, but this is something SE has not included in the latest software updates.
Some games needs additional data to be downloaded.
Internet is activated by default. By going into settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile network settings - And uncheck "Data Enabled" then you will be able to disable internet.

did u make backup of ur sd?..no prob..im free rite now
Yeah I have duplicates of the files on my hard drive, mostly they are apk game files. I'd try again my x8 later, something urgent came up.
the programs installed on the phone memory disappeared, and on the menu where they should be located the menu is empty. still I can't figure out why programs don't install in my memory card...
it seems like a huge problem..how bout repair it through pc companion?..but everything will be liked out of the box phone.
but this is what I did. I factory reset the phone, and I see that it is still rooted. Unfortunately I have to download from the marketplace again. Internet is very slow here. but from here, what do I do to install to memory card? thanks..
from what i noe, factory reset only clear your data and didnt touch your rom..if you want start form there..i recommend you to format ur sd card first..but backup all ur data first..use card reader to create the partition..create fat partition first then create ext2 partition..then install link2sd..let say u have 2gb sd..make 1.5gb to fat and balanced goes to ext2 partition..i dont recommend ext3 and ext4 partition..mybe there's is conflit..use MiniTool Partition Wizard to reformat and create the partition..i did it on the first try, everything goes fine.
or maybe u can used fat32 for second partition..when i read at the link2sd thread,fat32 been recognize by all phone..the thread has been updated,i used ext2 partition..and everything works fine till now..
im sory if my instruction bricked ur phone..im also a beginner, and am answering ur quest within my range of knowledge..what i've tell you here is what i've test on my phone and it didnt bricked my phone..
ok, I'm gonna try that and I'd feedback the results to you.. thanks.
good luck and be careful when messing ur phone ..remember to always backup before start,if anything goes wrong.
after lots of trials and errors, I have managed to get the links2sd working. now after I install a game, and I select create link in link2sd, will that automatically be transferred to the sd card?
and should I include the "include devlik cache"?
yes,for every application that u install..click create link and yes u should checked that include delvik cache ..i suggest u to install all app first then create link then reboot ur phone

[Q] Error formatting data on CM7 install

Newbie here - used search feature, searched across forums. Did not find my problem addressed.
Putting CM7 on wife's NC 1.2.0. Followed huskermania's steps exactly. Everything installed fine until I got to the part where I selected format data. Then I received message, "error formatting data!" Everything stops right there and I have to power the unit down.
Re-downloaded the file twice - went through the complete process two times across several different times so as to avoid frustration causing more trouble! Using a Sandisk 8g class 4 card.
Using 7zip, cm7.0.3, and win32diskimager, and google add-ons, downloaded as directed by the husker dude.
In one section of his video, Huskermania moves files to the mSD - his files are shown as yellow folders. Mine show up as a small stack of books. When I look at the properties of my files, they are winrar zip archive files.
Please help! I'm so close!!
Thank you,
Jim
I believe your issue has been addressed more than one, maybe not exactly the same but pretty close.
Anyway, your NC is v1.2.0, often called "blue dot" which B&N decided to change the partition mapping, used to be 1GB /data & 5GB /media in v1.1, now be 5GB /data & 1GB /media in v1.2.0.
If you don't have a bootable uSD card with CwM Recovery 3.2.x.x or above, it will give you that error "cannot format /data". However, in my specific case, I did have the issue but my NC actually continued to next step, not hung and no need to force reboot.
I suggest you get the newer CwM (v 3.2.0.1) and give it a try again.
Votinh,
Thank you for your reply. As I learn, I am finding that sometimes I don't understand what to ask to find the solution!
I will try this today and report back.
Thank you again,
Jim
Wait!
I checked the version of the file I had used to install cwr and it is 3.2.0.1 - the same file that I was encouraged to try. To be more precise, it is "recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.1-bravo.
So, I'm still stuck.
HELP!
Thank you,
Jim
Can't offer anymore help, m8 but I don't think you should be panic.
If I were you, I would try to re-partition/re-format to 1GB /data 5GB /media, then using CwMR v3.0.2.8 and try again.
Great! Now, can you tell me how to do that?
Thank you,
Jim
I would suggest reading This first. Important info if you are going to muck around in the internal memory partitions.
Then I would go Here and see if this will help.
If not, This, This, or This might be your next best steps as far as reading and/or trying.
Also, This Sticky could shortcut you to the solution you need.
All these links go to XDA threads here in the Nook Color forums. They aren't all the recovery threads, but most of the more recent ones that could help you.
I haven't had to deal with what you're trying to handle, but this should be a great start/solution to solving your problem.
It's gonna take some reading and absorbing to comprehend what you're trying to accomplish, given the level familiarity you seem to have with your device and it's internal file structure.
(I mean no slight by this, the fact that you are here trying to learn and figure out your issue says much - welcome to the community btw )
Tcandroid,
Thank you for your input. I solved the problem by following votinh directions about partitioning. I'm finally up and running cm7!
Two concerns remain:
1. Do I need to worry about OTH updates from barnes and noble messing up my efforts? My hunch is no, just want to make sure. If so, how do I turn that off?
2. Can I over clock to 950 with what has already been installed, or do I need to download and install something else?
Thank you all so much!
Jim

This put a smile on my face, i'm glad to hear you got your issue resolved.
Nothing worse then having a wonderful piece of technology right in your hands that you can't use.
I have no doubt you are going to have a blast with it.
Cruise through the 'themes and apps' subforum here in Nook Color Forums, and you'll find some gems that are out there in the market.
I am not sure about the answers to either of your questions, but I do know that:
Some people have had to do some funky things to block B&N updates, and there have been conflicting answers on this. Again, only have seen in passing - so not sure what the whole story is here.
B&N doesn't push updates that often, so it's likely you have some time to figure this out.
I see people mentioning overclocking to 1200 a lot, so 950 shouldn't put too much stress on your machine. Depending on what version of CM7 you are running, you shouldn't use an external app to overclock. I've been using mine at the standard 800 and can play games like Samurai 2 (with chainfire installed) and it's no problem for the machine.
If your CM7 version provides you overclock settings, use those and not an outside app like SetCPU.
Some random info gleaned from browsing through this forum. Not too specific in addressing your query, yet maybe helpful in your continuing Android education.

I help many people in many threads and tend not to remember the OP's original issue, so I have to re-read again
Firstly, congrats to you, do enjoy the NC running CM7. I bet by now, you are not a noob or newbie anymore, experience learnt.
Secondly,
1. since the NC is running CM7 ROM now, you don't have to worry about anything from B&N, even their new release probably won't be as good as the CM7.
2. by default, CM7 comes with kernel that can be overclocked to 925MHz (at least true on the v123 nightly build, not sure the latest) and again, it runs at 800MHz by default. You can set it under ??? (not on top of my head now and I don't have the NC in front of me, will update later).
If you want to run faster than 925MHz, you must install Dalingrin latest work - build on 06302011. Be sure download the "emmc" version since you run the CM7 off the internal memory.

Recommend simple, idiot-proof, Android?

I have an HTC HD2. I'd like to run Android so I can use the Intuit credit card processing software....
I'm looking for simple, idiot-proof, acronym-free instructions on finding and installing a current, stable, functional Android...
I'm sure the folks that hang out here all the time know what all the acronyms are, but I'm a touch baffled... I figured out "sd" means the SD card in the phone. But, "NAND", "CWM" "MAGDLR", and some of the arcane terminology is confusing, and I don't know what I NEED to know and what I can safely ignore...
So, I can guess and pick some Android installation (it appears there are dozens of notes touting competing versions) but it would be simpler if someone in here can recommend something for a computer literate user that doesn't want to be a cell phone O/S expert...
Recommendations?

Not to sound ungrateful 'cause I'm sure there's a lot of useful information in there somewhere, but this is exactly why I'm requesting something idiot-proof...
simple flashing order:make hspl 2.08 using hspl4-task 29-flash radio 2.15.....-flash mgldr-flash proper cwr partition for selected rom-if you use eu hd2 make sd-ext partition in sd(this can be done by mgldr)-put your rom.zip in sd-in mgldr choose ad recovery-install zip from sd-choose zip from sd-after installation complete press back then reboot.ask again if you stuck
Why am I flashing anything?
What is hspl 2.09 and why would I need it?
what on EARTH does "hspl4-task 29-flash radio 2.15" even MEAN?
why do I need a "proper cwr partition"?
and what rom am I selecting?
and on and on......
OK, so I presume the above is either a test or a bit of humor at the uninformed observer's expense (that'd be me)...
So, can I have all this translated from phone geek to dumb end user now?
Again, I presume I can just put Android on the SD card without a lot of pain and anguish, so still wondering what's a good, stable, fully-functional installation that'll run the GoPayment software and let me swipe credit cards through the phone...
my question, did you read the links? i mean really really read them? not just click and say "oh ****, that's a lot of text, i need help?" trust me....read them...then read them again...then read it again. it will start to make sense. your questions--
best read for a lot of your questions (besides what was posted above):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021837
Why am I flashing anything?
- you said you wanted android. technically you could use an sdcard rom, but he was just trying to give you what you asked for. guess the question should be why are YOU flashing anything?
you should ask - do i want windows mobile and android, only android (get rid of windows mobile all together) or windows phone (wp7) and android. only then can we point you in the right direction.
What is hspl 2.08 and why would I need it?
- read my thread above!!!!!! cuz you can't flash android without it (this is a custom bootloader that allows your windows mobile phone to install magldr or clk which allows you to install android to nand - aka install android to your phone)
what on EARTH does "hspl4-task 29-flash radio 2.15" even MEAN?
ignore the task 29 (i have never done this).
hspl4 will install hspl2.08 to your phone. this unlocks the bootloader. layman's terms - allows you to install magldr or clk to install android (or windows phone 7)
you need a particular radio to make this all work. that radio is 2.15. a radio is what allows your phone to make calls/data/etc. don't ask why this is, this is just the way it is. the radio your phone came with is likely different.
why do I need a "proper cwr partition"?
- cuz this allows you to install android. too small a partition, android won't fit. too large a partition, wasted space. just right partition = all good. you need to READ the rom thread to know what is the right partition.
and what rom am I selecting?
- you need to READ about the flavors of roms. there are a bunch. take one and try it. if it doesn't work, find another.
Again, I presume I can just put Android on the SD card without a lot of pain and anguish,
- yes, this is true
so still wondering what's a good, stable, fully-functional installation that'll run the GoPayment software and let me swipe credit cards through the phone
- beats me. but why not just try something? sdcard roms cannot in anyway hurt your phone.
now go read. and read. and read. and then experiment. good luck.
here is the best idiot proof way to get android on your phone. it is a winmo rom that has android already built in so you wont have to figure out what is what. its so easy even a cave man can do it.
Well, as usual, the secret to getting the right answer is asking the right question. And the trick to asking the right question is knowing most of the answer....
I didn't........
What I'd LIKE to do is have some current, fully functional version of Android available so I can process credit cards through my HD2 using a swiper. Over time, I may attempt to migrate other things to Android - like contacts and such. But initially, I'm just concerned about the CC processing.
So, as I understand what I want to do, putting Android on the SD card will work, and I just need to figure out which one of the umpteen versions is a good one. I'd like a home page that looks at least somewhat like my current Windows page. I"d like the buttons to continue to work as they currently do (as much as possible)....
I went out and started looking at the various SD Android versions here and selected the nexushd2-gingerbread v2.8 one because of a reply in a previous note asking for a "good" Android......
Installed it, and it works fine, although I"m not particularly fond of the home page. Put the GoPayment application on, plugged in the swiper, and ran a charge.... Appears to work fine, so it solves my primary problem...
Now, since I've figured out I'd prefer to use an SD installation, and have one that works, is there a "better" one that I should try? One that looks and feels more like the Windows Mobile 6.5 I'm used to? Or, is there one that has a different look and feel, but some functionality that makes it superior to the others?
This ROM I'm about to recommend dates back to last November...
However, I have tried every SD ROM since that time, used them for either a few hours/days/weeks, and still always returned to this one. It is just flawless, albeit Android 2.2.
Just download it, throw the 'Android' folder into the SD Card, and run the two files (CLRCAD.exe which appears to do nothing, but does enable the sound, and then Haret.exe)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847631&highlight=black+blue
If you decide to move off WinMob, then NANDs are good, but personally I just have a WinMob program which runs on boot and then executes those two files)
Enjoy!

do you like sense base builds or would you prefer 1 that doesn't have sense like cm7 or a miui ROM?
AmeriCanAndroid seems to be a favorite for a lot of people and is updated rather often but i personally like RafDroid HD found here. if you want to take a look at other android builds for the htc hd2 found here on xda check out this webpage. it will also give you some info about each ROM like the base, build, when it was updated & if it has sense or not. when you find one you want just click it & it will link you back to the page found on XDA.
Am I correct that "Sense" is the user interface used on the Windows Mobile HD2? If so, yes, I like it, but probably because I"m used to it. I'd have to try some different versions with different UIs to see what's most comfortable.
I'm currently running the nexushd2-gingerbread v2.8 one I downloaded yesterday. The UI is enough different that it's taking a little getting used to.
I'll have to give the others you mentioned a try, and go look at the web page that shows the different builds. I"m amazed at how many there are.
Just for fun I downloaded the AmeriCanAndroid 08/1/11 version and put it on the SD card..... Tried to run clrcad.exe and got the "CLRCAD annot be opened" error. Tried haret and got the same error. Both say "Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found..."
So, am I missing something simple or is there a problem with this build? I found a couple topics in here about problems with clrcad but they seemed to wander aimlessly without any resolution...
I've now looked through a couple DOZEN topics over the last year with complaints of exactly the problem I'm seeing with clrcad and haret... I don't see a resolution in ANY of them......
Yesterday, copied the files onto the phone for the nexus gingerbread Android, ran clrcad and haret and was up and running.......
Now, I've tried three different builds, including reinstalling the nexus one, and NONE of them will run. I get the same error for clrcad and haret every time.
Shutting down the phone didn't do anything.
I figure there's got to be a simple, obvious answer sitting here but I'm not finding it.
sense for windows mobile & sense for android are two different things. i personally dont know of any android rom or app thats availible in the market that will give you a windows mobile look or feel. i would find a rom that you want and then try & find a video on youtube that matches it so you can see what its like before you go through all the steps to flash it.
did you unzip AmeriCanAndroid or did you leave it in a zip file? i have since moved to nand builds so im going from memory which is starting to fail me in my old age but i think it needs to be unzipped using something like 7-zip. i think you just put the android folder on the root of your sd card. there is a video in the thread that shows you how to do the install. you can find that here.
so you tried to re-install something that worked for you yesterday but now you cant install it again? how long did you wait because with some builds it can take as long as 10-15 mins to install everything correctly. could you give me the steps you took step by step to try to install AmeriCanAndroid? i think thats the only way i would be able to help.
Yesterday I downloaded the Android 7z file. Unzipped it on the PC and let it create an android folder with all the files. Plugged in the phone and copied the android folder to the root of the SD card on the phone. Ran clrcad and haret on the phone and IT WORKED PERFECTLY.........
Today, just to try one of the builds recommended in here I downloaded a different android. did EXACTLY the same thing - unzipped with a 7z unzip, copied it to an android folder in the root of the phone, ran clrcad and got the error. Ran haret and got the same error........
Cleaned off the android folder on the phone, rebooted, tried a soft reset, etc.
Copied the nexus android build from the PC to the phone - EXACTLY AS I DID YESTERDAY WHEN IT WORKED. Ran clrcad and got the error......
I don't know what's going on with the phone or the Android builds or what, but there are a LOT of entries here and elsewhere on the web about people having exactly this problem. And so far I haven't seen the answer that makes this problem go away......
My recollection is that I had EXACTLY the same problem about 6 months ago. Installed an earlier version of Android and after the first time I rebooted the phone I could never get Android to run again. Just got the same clrcad and haret errors...
So, SOMEBODY, what's causing this and how do I get rid of it WITHOUT having to do some hard reset the destroys everything on the phone?
Back up any data on you sd card you need (I.e. pics, vids, music, whatever you feel important.) Download the Panasonic sd formatter and format your sd card. Copy over the android folder that is in the 7zip that you have unzipped. You should be able to boot ok from there.
Sent from my AmeriCan NANDroid HD2 r727 magldr
Formatted from the PC.
Installed the formatter on the PC. Formatted the SD card. MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. Copied the Android folder (the identical folder I copied yesterday) to the SD card, and STILL get exactly the same error from clrcad.....
Is this something that happens a lot? 'Cause so far, the two times I've had Android on this phone this has happened. And there are a LOT of topics out there with exactly this problem, and a lot of unsuccessful "do this" that don't appear to work. Does ANYBODY had a real fix for this? It worked perfectly 24 hours ago, now it doesn't. My BIG concern is that if Android is flaky and unreliable on the SD card I can't use this thing to do credit card processing if it's going to randomly fail and not be bootable.

Cleaned off the android folder on the phone, rebooted, tried a soft reset, etc.

your suppose to copy the unzipped android folder to the root of your sd card and not your phone. i think thats why your getting an error.
example: download rom and unzip using 7-zip. take the "Android" folder not AmeriCanAndroid from within that file and drag_drop or copy_paste to the root of your sd card. then using a file manager from within winmo go to the android folder & run clrcad and then haret. it should run fine. you can also use a program called Rundroid that automats some of the work. its a great app that will allow you to dual boot android but i think you might find it useful as well, you can find it here. RunDroid will allow you to run several android builds from your sd, not just 1.
fwiw, I can't (won't) say anything bad about any custom ROM offered on this board. My own favorite (to use) is a personal choice, which doesn't make it superior to any other - though it may be. It's just what I'm used to, what works for me and what I'm satisfied with.
Doesn't matter if you use a stock HD2 WinMo setup, or a custom WinMo ROM on your HD2. An Android SD build won't interfere with it. And so... (personally) I use AmericanAndroid (ACA). It IS used by a majority of folks for good reason. - BUT - I'm trying my best to be careful and clear with YOU that it may not be the best solution for you or anyone else in particular. We don't play favorites on this site for good reason! For me though... it is an extremely easy ROM to implement.
So you're having a bit of trouble with clrcad & haret... No Problemo.
Google is your friend... find and install under WinMo the 'exceller bootloader'. You'll boot WinMo... and then run Exceller. It will shut down WinMo and run clrcad & haret.
Make sure you've properly installed ACA on your SD card first. No need to partition your SD card. Make sure you're clear with the instructions on the first page and be sure to edit the startup.txt file (before installation) to change the LCD pixel density from 167 (default) to 240... unless you have eagle eyes or like tiny icons & text.
This is your simplest solution, and... get to know it a bit before you swap it for something that might (possibly) not be better. There's a reason a majority of users have chosen to use this Android build.
I'd wish you good luck, but luck has nothing to do with these things. Have fun with it! -Rob
Yes, EVERYTHING was copied to the Android folder OF THE SD CARD......
I have no problem installing yet another piece of software to (hopefully) get the necessary clrcad and haret files to run, but THIS WORKED TWO DAYS AGO. Without a bootloader or anything else. It worked.....
And yes, Google is quite effective. It showed me dozens of topics in forums where people complained of EXACTLY the problem I'm having. What it DIDN'T show me was a fix that didn't involve reformatting the SD card, REPLACING the SD card, doing a hard reset on the phone, and (this one I haven't seen before) installing a boot loader to hopefully get around the issue... BTW: all the above with the exception of the boot loader were tried by people with no success.
FWIW: I"m not criticizing any of the Android builds in here. I'm sure they're largely excellent, with slightly different flavors. And they represent a huge amount of work, of which I'm cognizant and appreciative.
I presume the problem is with Windows Mobile, NOT the Android builds, but it would be comforting to have somebody provide a solution to why it works when installed, and doesn't work after a reboot. Did all those other people that had the same problem do what I did six months ago and just give up on Android as being more work than it was worth? This isn't an isolated problem, there are dozens (and probably hundreds) of instances of people not being able to get Android to boot.
Anyhow, I"ll go find an exceller bootloader and try that. Hopefully, the thing is controllable so if things still fail I can get back to Windows...
I spoke too soon....... It's early here (having started this again at 04:00), and maybe my brain just isn't working yet, or it could VERY possibly be that I'm just too stupid to be allowed to mess with this whole thing, but I eventually found a copy of EBL2.1a._PlusUbuntu.CAB and downloaded it to the PC.
Then I went and found instructions on installing a cab file on the HD2. According to them I just COPY the cab file from the folder on the pc to My Documents on the SD card of the phone, then disconnect the phone from the PC, navigate to the folder, and click on the cab file.......
OK, sounds simple enough....... Did so.
Got a popup on the phone that said it was "Installing ..." At the bottom I got "The program is from an unknown publisher... Do you want to continue?"
So, I clicked YES...... Again, fairly idiot-proof........
And got "Installation of EBL2.1a._PlusUbuntu.CAB was unsuccessful."
Nothing else.... Just the message on a blank screen...
I"ll leave out the amount of screaming and swearing I"m doing at this point.....

[Q] Experiences with hacking Nook

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this and sorry if some of my questions are redundant, but can anyone tell me their experiences with hacking the Nook Color? I'm still deciding on getting it and I want to put Cyanogenmod 7(Gingerbread) in it( if I buy one), but I'm not 100 percent sure. Can someone tell me if it's easy, hard, any complications, etc? Also any links or information on how to dual boot it( is that the one where it doesn't void your warranty?) would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for all the noobness.
Welcome! There are a lot of threads here and in the Android Development sub-forum on getting started along with answers to most of your questions. See this post of mine for links on getting CM7 installed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16779145#post16779145
Frankly, everyone here will say that the nook is pretty awesome, especially with CM7. It's quite easy. The first time you install it might take a while (under 1 hour easy), but after a while it could really be done in a few minutes. At this point you just need to copy files mostly. Technically, I think running CM7 could void your warranty, but that said, the Nook is nearly unbrickable. You can pretty much always restore to stock if need be. The safest way to get started is to follow the SD card method from the link above.
Good luck!
It's just like learn how to swim or learn how to ride a bike.
No one ever able to do and do good first time, it takes time, always.
Someone picks things up fairly quick, some others learn at slower pace but they all get better at some points.
The only requirements are able to read and understand English and able to follow the instruction then you're off to go .......... and go far.
Lastly, if I can do it, you can do it.
Look into starting from the SDCard install options, before overwriting internal memory. If something goes wrong, you simply power off, remove the SDCard, and power up again, and you have your stock Nook Color working perfectly.
In my sig, click the link to "SD Install" for the best way to prep the MicroSD card for whatever ROM you want.
I highly recommend CM7, it's simply the best thing going for it. Again, installing to the MicroSD card is a painless way to test it out, links in verygreen's thread.
Make sure you have a SanDisk card, links in my sig to find out why if you're curious.
To this day, I still have my stock Nook Color B&N software updated and running on the internal memory - but for the life of me I can't figure out why I haven't taken the step to move CM7 to internal at this point. It's that good.
Point being, with a SanDisk MicroSD card, and CM7 installed to it, you really unlock the powerful user experience this device is capable of. Best part is, it's not a permanent thing. You simply power off, remove the MicroSD card, then power back up and you are back to stock.
Easy, painless, and tons of fun.
Thank You so much everyone for the responses. Sorry if I took too long to reply. I'm going to read over the directions right now Oh and do anyone have the list of some of the words? I'm still new to this and I don't know what "partition" or "kernel" means.
partition = dedicated space for specific usage.
kernel = sets of drivers, it is a brain of the ROM
i was a new nook owner and new to rooting as well. i had no trouble with following instructions and have been very happy with the outcome. it also helps to read a lot of other posts to see what issues may arise and how to fix things. as long as you can follow instructions properly its a breeze
Thank You all so much. I got one more question, I've been reading somewhere online that it's possible that you can go back to the original version of the nook without having to remove the SD card, and I just want to confirm if this is possible? If it's can you give me a link? Thank You sorry for so much question

On the newer nightlies, you can press the nook 'n' button while the first green cyanogenmod logo is showing and it will take you to a boot menu. You can then select to boot from emmc (internal) or the sd card, and also choose normal or recovery mode.
Sorry about this but 1 more small question, will bn update( i think ota) affect the rooted nook? If so, can you tell me how to fix it?

(Q) Dualbooting Help

Hi, I am quite new to the HD2, so I have a question that might sound dumb to the more experienced people reading this.
Is it possible to Dualboot WP7 and Android ? But it is not that simple, I want my phone to boot into android unless I choose WP7 instead, I currently have Android ICS on my nand so what I need is something like the SD method used to dualboot WM6.5 and Android, but the other way around and with WP7 instead of WM6.5
Thanks.
Seems like even if I wanted to singleboot WP7, I cannot, because I cannot even get a rom, all the links are broken, If any on you have a WP7.8 with all the good stuff and tweeks I probably want, please link it.
Hi Traysa, you can only boot wp7 from nand using magldr. magldr lets you choose which OS autostarts in bootsettings. So you would need to partition your sdcard and use an SD android build, or better, a NativeSd ROM.
Shame the links are down, have you checked the last few pages of the threads for re-upped links? What wp7 takes your fancy? I might have it on HDD.
Off to sleep now, night night.
Oh, and you will need an activation code for wp7, don't think Microsoft give them out now as wp7 is unsupported.
Yes, I did look for reups for about an hour, found none, I would like a WP7 rom that has lots of preinstalled apps, because WP7 is no longer supported and getting them might not be very easy. dont really care if its Mango or WP7.8, I just want it to work. And about the WP7 activation key, how would I go about getting one ?
Thanks
edit: Forgot to add, I dont want to install wm6.5, i want to go straight from android to WP7, if at all possible.
The one you say you have ( WP7.8 pdaimatejam v8.8) should work, please mail it, or link it if you still have it.
Oh and pdaimatejam put this code out, it supposedly should work TP4CF-GK479-Q9Q4Q-WPYRP-7YR4D
heres another : CRFV7-X32H9-7QF2Y-CG239-V62YR
Off to work, will look later
After a **** ton of digging, I found a Hd2O ROM from a Dutch website, will try it.
No need for the rom anymore, the rom I found is working great, is it still possible to use the market ? When I try to make an account, it gives me a connection error, what do I do about that ? Also, I didn't use the key like you said, it never asked me to use a key.
Turns out I actually need a code, the two I found dont work. How do I get one ?
Okay, so WP7 is working perfectly, but I want Android too, how do I do that ?
I like either something cool like FroYo, I need an SD rom right ? Heres one,but the link is down ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870518 ) I already have a few things on my wp7 installation, so I do NOT want to delete it all, so I will probably need to back it up, but 1. Will it work if I partition the SD card 2. will it even work with zune down ? If you have this rom, please post it

Hi again Traysa, sorry been really busy in RL lately and haven't had a chance to get on xda. How are you getting on?
I posted a working link at the end of the thread you quoted for the Froyo build, but it would still be too big to install on sdcard without re-partitioning. I am pretty sure that you would lose your stuff if you repartitioned.
But see this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41706158 for a way to boot android without repartitioning, it is also superRAM as the original froyo build, and works well as long as you have only a few apps.
Thank you, but I cannot get the ROM, because it was uploaded on DevHost, which I guess does not work any longer, if you still have the rom, would you put it on mediafire or send it as an attachment ? It is kinda sad, that so many HD2 ROMs got lost this way. I am also really surprised that you were able to get android on such a tiny amount of space.
Best regards
Traysa

follow the instructions in the above thread to boot from magldr
report back please and good luck
Hi, this build is soo close to booting, but when I go to Ad SD and launch it, Portadroid starts porting is and then it reboots, any ideas ?
I also have an unrelated question, I recently started experimenting with the CM13 build for the HD2, but I cannot figure out, how to get files onit, when I plug it in, it shows that its an MP3 Player and I cannot put any files on it, when I put the SD card in my PC directly,I quickly figure out that Windows is not Linux and does not understand EXT4. Because the browser/the play store does not work, I cannot put any apps on it, so that its usable, I wanna put a veeeery lightweight web browser on it and aptoide, it that works.
PS : Thank you for helping me, it always makes my day !
EDIT : I figured the file transfer out, I had to switch to PTP in settings instead of MTP.
