Anyone? As for why I need this, please see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8125474#post8125474
Basically, I just need a mostly reliable Android ROM that doesn't get SOD or GSOD, no constant reboots, and reliable data and wifi tethering...
I am running the BlackStone 2.2 w/ Sense, and it is very reliable. Almost always boots fine, no real SOD after radio upgrade, and fast. However, data will cut out sometimes and take the radio with it, usually for about a minutes (or less), and every once in a while needs a reboot to fix. Also, WiFi tether causes a lock when I try to open it and I have to pull the battery.WiFi tether is a necessary for me now (see link above), and I'm not even sure Dev's have gotten it to work on any ROM... Thought I would ask here...
Thanks!

Yes, I did. I have read bunches and gone through a number of ROM's. I am not clear after reading them. Sorry if that is a problem, but I'm not, so I am asking for clarification. Since I am not sure what ROM to go with, it seems one post here is more efficient then a different post in every rom thread...
Thanks.
When you say reliable do you mean no SOD or screen freezes? If so, I'd say no. There is no 100% reliable android build yet.

There's only a hand full of ROM here, why not try them out for yourself? If one didn't work, try another one.
Move question to android general! Android on hd2 is very much still in early development, so answer to your question is no.
They are very good but not perfect.

well if you gone thru a number of roms then you should be able to tell two things:
1, what rom works for you ....
2, and that alot of people experience what you did and there are fixes ,
I do have an idea which ones work for me, but I never really needed tether before, so I never tested. Also, I know there is no perfect ROM. I could deal w/ freezes, which are fixed by killing the G-Sensor. I just wanted something w/ no SOD and wifi tether/data...
I think I have my answer from this thread. Thanks to those that helped.
Thanks...
sorry everyones giving you a hard time instead of just answering...Bangsters has wifi tethering and its pretty good...not PPP but still very reliable

You could also try out HyperDroid with the update kernel. I am currently using it without problem. With moderate use, I getting about 1.5 day,that without SETCPU setting, with fully charged.
Currently using HyperDroid 1.2 with kernel r11

if he would of read bangsters first page he would of known that , i hope you be around to help every single person who ask the same thing , because after about 37 people you will get tired of answering it ...
I've been using hyperdroid for about a week now pretty much without any problems. Wifi tethering works great, infact I am currently using it to post this!
using nexus one android build 2.2 frg33 mccm 1.5 rom with no problems.. everything works perfectly
i've switched off the screen rotation to avoid freezing.. enabled when necessary with a simple shortcut on the home screen..
Thanks everyone. Loving HyperDroid. Now I just have to figure out how to disable the G-Sensor (was built into my previous ROM)... lol
Have cleaned this thread. Its simply not fair to start a war on someone's thread when all they are looking for is a little help, albeit that help might have been asked for originally in the wrong forum.
Please be aware of all of XDA rule 2 here. Also if you can't answer the question or stay on topic then please don't post. It saves a lot of aggravation.
Looking forward to your cooperation here.

I tried quite a few Android ROMs and in my opinion, while great progress has been made, none is good enough for daily use. Unless you are an enthusiast and willing to live with rather frequent freezes and some missing functionality.
This being said, I enjoyed tremendously playing with Android, and I believe it will be my next system. However, I'm using my phone for business and simply cannot live with an unreliable system.

DARKYY'S ROM FOR SGS VIBRANT
Darky made his ROM flashable for ALL SGS series.
Don't just flash this like ANY OTHER ROM.
*WARNING IF YOU DON'T READ THIS WHOLE THREAD YOU WILL SOFT/HARD BRICK*
FIRSTLY, download this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.darkyrom.darkyconfig
It's called the "DARKYROM CONFIGURATOR" its in the market.
In the App, make sure that these are the settings,
The Modem and Kernel, set them both to NO MODEM, and , SKIP KERNEL
Now download the ROM, and put it in your SD Card.
Go back into Darkyrom config. App.
Now click menu, then SELECT ZIP AND FLASH
It will ask for SuperUser allow it.
It will now boot into Recovery and start Flashing it, it will take a while its a 250MB file.
After flashing is done, it will take a longer-than-usual time to reboot.
It will open.
If you see your PREVIOUS ROM WALLPAPER, SETTINGS ETC...
boot into recovery by using power button, and wipe/factory reset.
Now it should be okay..
-NOTE-
you do NOT have to disable voodoo, well, i didn't and i'm having no problems because of that.
*PROBLEMS*
It Sometimes Randomly reboots, but gives a vibrate as a warning?
It randomly vibrates sometimes... but doesn't always reboot.
Some people may experience all the SD Card Wiped or their music/gallery/etc erased
I will upload some pictures in the second post, through the phone it self.

there's no way around it guys... you're going to get soft reboots when your signal hits about -80dbm
Yeah theres no other problems besides that. I've asked Darkyy to try and help us out, he's probably sleeping right now, so i'll let you guys know.
Keep in mind this is a i9000 ROM
Its a miracle it works universally.

Wiping solves some problems ull face. Trust me.
Nice of you to start a topic.
The RESTART/Vibrate bug you are refering to is the SAME bug that Jellette/Heathen was experiencing when he was trying to port an i9000 ROM in Ragnarok. He tracked the issue to be caused by the signal. Yes, the SIGNAL strength of the network causes the reboot. It happens when this signal reaches a certain value. Then phone goes crazy and reboots. That's about it. There is still no known solutions to this.
HOWEVER, Eugene beleives he found the file and settings which are causing it. I have PMed Darkyy and he will be looking into the issue when he's back from vacation (currently hes heading out for a few days). I believe jellette/Heathen may also be working on the issue once he gets his replacement phone.
I hope this helps. And yes. Darkyy' ROM is FAMOUS. I don't need to say more about it haha. When/if it works, it will be AMAZING.
If other devs want to jump on this to try and fix it, it would be very very appreciated. This ROM is just too good to pass up
Not to mention, ALL themes from the I9000 forums WILL work with this after it is working on our Vibrants. Go take a look at the I9000 forum, there are literally TENS upon TENS of amazing themes for it.
For the email FCs, it was enough to wipe its data in TitaniumBackup. however, I had issues receiving calls till I wiped/factory reset my phone. Very satisfied so far.

how long is the longer than usual? i tried it last night and i guess it got stuck on a bootloop and kept vibrating too in the bootanimation "darky's rom" for about half and hour
I tried 9.2 extreme edition when it first came out. Super fast, I really liked the presentation, pulled out all the stops with animations and transparent elements sprinkled around. Couldn't get over the nagging bugs though, like the capacitive buttons being mapped all wack, didn't have an effective home button, both home and back functioned like the back button. Also the volume was reversed, and I didn't have sound in certain apps. Also had to flash a US modem, you should mention that in your post, I know it say's choose no modem, but you should mention later to flash one that works.
Used it for a few days like that actually, because it was still super slick and useable...even without the home button lol. But I didn't see it randomly reboot even once.

it doesnt suit me as i am currently using gingerbread and have no idea how 2 get back down 2 froyo:S
Without being tight mate, if you can't understand a tutorial, or install froyo/eclair bootloaders, then I would respectfully suggest that cm is not for you.
Try doing alot more reading - if you'd have done even a minimal amount before posting this request, you would know that voodoo lagfix has nothing to do with cyanogenmod.
The more you do to help yourself, the more inclined others will be to help.

When i put simply honey on my phone it took no longer than 15 minutes with the help of a friend over skype. I would say if i have the files i could do it in 10(as there was trial and error). So am I asking for SO much?

No one is being too lazy. I spent 2 minutes looking that post up and I did not need to. I've read it already.
EVERYTHING you need to know and all links are there. How hard can it be seriously.
Take heed on the advice given buddy. You should not be flashing cm7 period....
If you don't know about bootloaders, how to revert to froyo or use search in Google, just enjoy gingerbread.
Nobody is going to write you a personal tutorial on flashing when there are dozens of guides already plus I can only imagine the pages of troubleshooting you will generate. It is a Rom not for the faint hearted.

Hi bud, i have installed numerous custom roms following instructions found on websites and i would NEVER touch cyanogen in it's current form. It is not stable enough for general day to day usage unless you are able to update regularly from the nightlies. Even then it is still too unstable to be of any use.
The new 2.3.4 stock rom is brilliant and has very few bugs (if any). If you really don't want to use a stock rom and are insistent on using a CM7 rom then i recommend Insanity instead. It is a very stable rom, supports ext4 file format, is based on CM7 but has none of the limitations that CM7 currently has.
The posts above were advising you very politely that if the instructions for installing CM7 are too difficult then not only are you going to have problems installing it but also using it too.
Hope all that helps
wow. i do not understand how you have time 2 sit here and tell me what a fool i am that i dont read etc. is it physically impossible for some1 not 2 understand how 2 do this? every thread i have read has numerous things i do not understand. reading something that i only understand about 20% of doesnt help.
I'm actually happy theres a person that replied without being an ass . Ty lembi2001 for making it clear that that rom has instability issues etc. I would appreciate any tutorials that are helpful, and also any suggestions on custom roms that look sweet and run well?
theres nothing wrong with the 1 im currently running. simplyhoney is giving me a quadrant benchmark of 1858, but i saw the cyanogen 1 and saw the limitless customizations available and thought it would be good.
thankyou again for your attention even though most of you are being pretty rude. if you didnt get help doesnt mean you shouldnt help.

My point exactly.
I know how to flash and cm7 is biach of a setup. Many things can and seem to go wrong. Nightlys sometimes improve things, sometimes not and then you have to revert back to some other nightly to then another bla bla bla.
Someone new to flashing will for sure run into problems.
Cm7 will be great when its sorted but for now why not just upgrade to stock JVQ.
Edit. Saw your last post.
Who's being rude???
you I think.
You're the one proclaiming you know nothing about flashing and unable to understand written directions. I never said you were dumb? Wtf.

Stick with JVP etc until a final cm7 is out.

Well, non-technics should not use CM7 then. If the latest nightly has some heavy bugs just restore the CWM-backup you have done before.
And you don't have to flash each nightly.

@b3ava - as far as quadrant scores go they are not worth the screen they are displayed on. Run quadrant three times in a row and you will see that it changes each time.
I honestly don't recommend CM7 to you because of the numerous problems you will encounter. Try the rom i recommended to you and see how you feel about it.
@Lunchbox - where in what i put is the Bullsh!t that you so eloquently pointed out? I was merely advising to another user that they WILL encounter problems with CM7. How do you know that he doesn't use the Radio on a day to day basis? How do you know that he doesn't require the ability to record HD video? As i previously stated it is too unstable for day to day usage. You also forgot to point out the 2G/3G toggle bug, No Low Power mode. I don't intend on getting into an argument with you about this but you shouldn't be so flippant as disregard VALID points so abruptly.
@Lembi: you said that it isn't usable cause of bugs and so on. I'm happy that I can do everything with my phone until it shuts off because of no battery. 2G/3G-toggle: easy solution: the energysteering (don't know the exact english word , it's a widget). With this you can easily enable/disable 3G without any problems.
So CM7 is not such buggy you said.
Sorry, for saying 'Bullsh*t'. But you are right: if you want a perfect ROM where everything works you shouldn't choose CM.

I think the battery indicator has a glitch that *Detection* has a temporary fix for. However, even partly broken, the ROM is fantastic. I would like to use it as a daily. I'm just not going to jump the gun on it. I'd like to see a little more in the configurable option department, like a reboot to recovery option in the shutdown menu. Removing the Phone.apk and Telephony.apk also. No real need for them as we stand. That's my 2 pennies so far. But, Paul has really gotten far for such a short time, and I'm excited to see where he takes it.

Do you think it would be safe for a late model B70 sbk2? I've seen the warnings but i really wanna try it. Caution vs curiosity. I know it's a stupid risk to take with the official ICS just around the corner. What do you guys think?

well, if you got a backup you can try the ics , as it can be done for daily use, but its not recomened. if you want to try make sure you got a working backup, also if you restore honeycomb after tested ics, you need to flash a HC kernel

Risky considering you have no nvflash recovery should anything go wrong.
If you find you have no root / access to CWM you would be basically screwed.
I would listen to your sensible you this time and wait, yes it is bad having to wait, but worse if you brick your tablet.
ICS is nice, fast, but that soon fades with the current suspend / wifi bugs, I would advise waiting
Agreed. I've been in plenty of situations where CWM has saved me and always restored without a problem. It's just a shame i am not able to see the progress as it is happening and I can't be one of those people in the dev thread saying any updates?

The main thing is the kernal. Paul uses a different kernal to get ICS to function more smoothly. In the realm of sbk2, my main concern would be that NVflash doesn't work... and if something goes wrong, you are left with a really expensive coaster. With the rate that Paul has put out updates, it should be no time until we see a daily out of this.

Oh well at least my concerns were justified. Although i would like to add
Any updates?????
i wanna play too.

Asking for updates is like asking for an eta..don't do that. These guys are doing this on their own time, it is disrespectful to be impatient.
And fyi guys, i have a B70 if it roots with razor claw and can install cwm, and as long as you don't flash over your recovery you should be able to rescue any bad rom/kernel flash. I guess if my recovery went screwy i would be SOL but so far I've not had a problem. Be patient, and check and double check every step.
Did you wipe dalvik? Factory reset? Better make sure before you flash that rom and do an md5 before you flash any recovery to be sure it didn't corrupt in the meantime..if you are really careful, patient, and read a lot, and i mean A LOT, before you flash you can get away with flashing an sbk2 safely. If on the other hand, you've never flashed anything before, and don't know EXACTLY what you are doing, then i wouldn't risk it.
Paul's ICS is great progress, but unfortunately far from being just a novelty due to the bugginess and loss of functions. I played with it for about 5 minutes before I decided it wasn't ready for prime time and went back to revolver

about asking for ETA doesn't meen your disrespectall ful, look at all the ICS questions that asus got, its not disrespectful, you ask's for something that is good to know when you can be able to prepare to leave Honeycomb and go to ICS. but in this case Paul is almost alone working on this. and i can see that asking ETA when he does this on freetime will make it much more harder to set a date! SO asking ETA Isn't Mean. you really show that something is wanted and can give the OP both glad and angry moment's......
Anyhow. The Work goes amazingly fast forward, i wish i had his schills

You do realize asking Asus for an eta, when they are a company selling a product, and asking developers who are working for free in their own time, are not the same thing right?
Read the rules. It says pretty explicitly.. Do not ask for eta's.
Well the ETA thing was a joke simply because every third post in the dev thread is got an ETA. Don't let the lack of posts fool you I have been around the block a few times. Also if I hadn't been reading I wouldn't have known that it was not recommend to install on sbk2 devices.

Help me out..... where does it say no etas? Serious question.... thnx
I think what the last post referred to is when you pay for a service it's ok to ask them(ASUS) for an ETA but when devs here (Xda) do it for nothing more than street cred, fun, or cause they want to it is not cool to ask for an ETA.

Ok, it isn't as explicit as I thought, but it has been pounded into my head because it's been repeated so many times over and over..
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376759
And Here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081035
OBKING77's video cites it here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzpixaIOwSg
This part IS in the guide (though not in the rules);
XDA-Devs is about developers & hackers helping each other and working together to get the most out of our devices by understanding them better than most.
XDA-Devs is not about helping everyone who wants a "Kewl bit of kit" make their phone better than the guy next to him.
Now do we go kicking users off who never contribute anything, NO. We tolerate it to an extent. Where the toleration ends is when these users start diluting the usefulness of the forum by repeating the same questions over and over again.

I've just read it so many times it's become a 'rule' in my head. Sorry I was not accurate when stating it was 'explicit in the rules'. But it is a matter of respect for the devs
I wonder if we could do a tally and see how many posts on xda are actually people asking for updates or etas? Probably be in the thousands if not more.
Anyways back on topic.... sorry about that i thought that the implication that it was a joke was pretty clear in the previous message.
So i do think i will try ICS out after i do my backups. I suppose as a trial it will be good.
THERE IS ANOTHER POST AND POLL THIS IS REDUNDANT
~~~THREAD CLOSED~~~
plz vote ( are u with ICS or going back to GB)
There is already a post with this exact same question and a poll to answer.
Pointless waste of a thread.
On topic: LPY ICS !
Using stock ics latest update and ....hell no! No never gb for me. This rom is f!cking great. All i need now is a custom kernel(thats made with original sourses). No home made brick kernels with no wifi, black camera screen, buggy speaker.
updated to LPY two days ago... loving it so far...
wifi is good, battery life is good, no overheating problems...
The only 'complaint' i have is that it seems to be a bit of a memory hog... but i can wait for a strimmed down custom Rom based on this one to take care of that issue...
overall, pretty damn happy with it
M
Was on stock ics rooted with a few home made improvements and loving it but ......... I brought my note outright without contract so should anything go wrong I'm looking at a £400 paper weight, not worth the risk so..... I'm back to CM9 for now
just i want to know the no of bricked phones compared to all
Considering what we've seen CM9, repacked i9220 kernel, or home made kernel has been the common denominator in every brick
Totally using official ics and loving it. ;-)
Are you rooted with CWM?
Youhou another useless post about lpy supposed bug.
Seriously, just make the moderator make a post-it and it'll be enough, no need to open 100 post a day about that.
And what is this poll supposed to do ? Found a solution ? There arent enough "discussions" about it yet ?
On one level I agree with you. However when you have a trusted dev saying it's bugged and that his home grown kernel is not, yet all bricks lead back to CM9/repacked i9220, it makes it hard for me to believe that source considering the amount of donations. I look at what's happening and the results of the numerous upgrades being flashed over the past few days to use that as an indicator. Until LPY kernel source is released and the experts can comb through it, there is no real answer. I don't use CM, it's just not my flavor...but I really mean no disrespect to the work put forth by the many people who do work on CM.
There should be no reason to do a full wipe if you're not getting force closes or other weird screen issues like pixel salads or SODs (screen of death where screen stays black for a good minute with responding).
Correction: only 1 brick was tied to CM9 and still no guarantee that cm9 was the cause in any way.
The leaked kernel? Yes bricks are confirmed to be related to wipes and stuff using that kernel.
There is 0 evidence than CM9 has anything to do with a single brick. Just because people that have bricked have previously used CM9 is not a factor. If that was the case then why not say that official samsung gb was the cause, after all, Every Brick thats been reported was running that rom at some point.
Your arguement is invalid.
Note: CM9 is great, fix the few issues with speaker and whatnot and I will never use stock again!
Correction: before "official" CM9 there was imilkas...which bricked many others. then there was xplod's donated device during kernel development which you can take that as you will.
My argument is valid...I'm using common denominators. But if you read my whole post, I said there is no real answer...so I'm not trying to be "right"...it's my opinion/observation
I moved back my sister phone to GB because of the brick issues in LPY ICS and high battery usage !
