Is there a reliable Android ROM w/ WiFi tether working (well)? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Anyone? As for why I need this, please see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8125474#post8125474
Basically, I just need a mostly reliable Android ROM that doesn't get SOD or GSOD, no constant reboots, and reliable data and wifi tethering...
I am running the BlackStone 2.2 w/ Sense, and it is very reliable. Almost always boots fine, no real SOD after radio upgrade, and fast. However, data will cut out sometimes and take the radio with it, usually for about a minutes (or less), and every once in a while needs a reboot to fix. Also, WiFi tether causes a lock when I try to open it and I have to pull the battery.WiFi tether is a necessary for me now (see link above), and I'm not even sure Dev's have gotten it to work on any ROM... Thought I would ask here...
Thanks!

did you bother reading any of the threads or build threads

Yes, I did. I have read bunches and gone through a number of ROM's. I am not clear after reading them. Sorry if that is a problem, but I'm not, so I am asking for clarification. Since I am not sure what ROM to go with, it seems one post here is more efficient then a different post in every rom thread...
Thanks.

When you say reliable do you mean no SOD or screen freezes? If so, I'd say no. There is no 100% reliable android build yet.

There's only a hand full of ROM here, why not try them out for yourself? If one didn't work, try another one.

Move question to android general! Android on hd2 is very much still in early development, so answer to your question is no.
They are very good but not perfect.

well if you gone thru a number of roms then you should be able to tell two things:
1, what rom works for you ....
2, and that alot of people experience what you did and there are fixes ,

I do have an idea which ones work for me, but I never really needed tether before, so I never tested. Also, I know there is no perfect ROM. I could deal w/ freezes, which are fixed by killing the G-Sensor. I just wanted something w/ no SOD and wifi tether/data...
I think I have my answer from this thread. Thanks to those that helped.
Thanks...

sorry everyones giving you a hard time instead of just answering...Bangsters has wifi tethering and its pretty good...not PPP but still very reliable

You could also try out HyperDroid with the update kernel. I am currently using it without problem. With moderate use, I getting about 1.5 day, that without SETCPU setting, with fully charged.
Currently using HyperDroid 1.2 with kernel r11

if he would of read bangsters first page he would of known that , i hope you be around to help every single person who ask the same thing , because after about 37 people you will get tired of answering it ...

I've been using hyperdroid for about a week now pretty much without any problems. Wifi tethering works great, infact I am currently using it to post this!

using nexus one android build 2.2 frg33 mccm 1.5 rom with no problems.. everything works perfectly
i've switched off the screen rotation to avoid freezing.. enabled when necessary with a simple shortcut on the home screen..

Thanks everyone. Loving HyperDroid. Now I just have to figure out how to disable the G-Sensor (was built into my previous ROM)... lol

Have cleaned this thread. Its simply not fair to start a war on someone's thread when all they are looking for is a little help, albeit that help might have been asked for originally in the wrong forum.
Please be aware of all of XDA rule 2 here. Also if you can't answer the question or stay on topic then please don't post. It saves a lot of aggravation.
Looking forward to your cooperation here.
WB

I tried quite a few Android ROMs and in my opinion, while great progress has been made, none is good enough for daily use. Unless you are an enthusiast and willing to live with rather frequent freezes and some missing functionality.
This being said, I enjoyed tremendously playing with Android, and I believe it will be my next system. However, I'm using my phone for business and simply cannot live with an unreliable system.

My Own Testing on all these roms...

Ever since i got my hands on an Android i been testing like crazy looking for that perfect rom. Not until recently cyanogens roms were a nightmare for me. Btw, i have a mytouch 3G black T-mobile USA version. I have it loaded with the RAv1.4 or is it RAv1.2, anyway the cyanogen and many other roms ( i suspect its the SPL) have a screen lit problem. after i put the phone to sleep, when it wakes up it has the big black blur. Cyanogen recently fixed it! and his roms have been awesome until the last release. No more tethering, no more apps like that one fabolous task killer app with the blue icon. Once again im sure there is good reasoning..
I dont need smart ass replies or answers to anything i read above. this thread is for others like me that just want to kno which rom is awesome for their phone. like me, they dont want to click thru every single release thread with 10,000 pages. lets get it started with one that im loving!
1) RaiderX303 Micro Hero v2.0
Everything is FAST AND SMOOTH
No "extra" apps included
Market doesnt seem to work ( i only tried to dl astrid..not dling)
SO FAST its worth it for me to use for a few days even week(s).
and i mean fast as most hero apps i uninstall in a hour.
I will update this thread as i go
NOTE: writing this was purely out of my boredom/lunch break. i do not attempt to put in an extra effort to get things right like that name of the blue app that kills my tasks(damn what is it calllledd) . im simply venting/commenting on roms i try out as im a rom fiend just like linux distros. so if your using the same phone as iam ...come back
update
Market does work just not astrid.
Found wifi tethering on market.
I'm sorry, but what's the meaning of this thread?
my own thread logging up which rom i tried and liked/ what didnt work. is this a problem? or am i suppose to go to every roms own thread to post my opinion?

Yes you should post your opinion in each thread. This has nothing to do with development. At the very least post this in general.

"The new guy 6"... any one use it?

Hello i noticed the thread for "the new guy" rom is gone. I have also noticed that the new guy 6 is out, but i cant find any information on it. Is there something wrong with this rom build? i am currently running new guy 5, which is one of the only roms ive been able to get usb tether working on.
i also notice the creater andrizoid has been disabled on the forums. i hope someone could shed some light on this for me.

Interesting. Ive never even looked that that keyboard.
so otherwise the rom is safe to use?

now that my thread is completely derailed. let me try to bring it back on track.
is this rom otherwise save to use? is there a place where i can find a change log? is there a forum?
i dont necessarily need this rom, but i need usb tether, and no other roms i have tried work. so i feel stuck to it right now. maybe i just wont upgrade it.
Yes, the rom is completely safe to use.
the creator of the rom was using another roms framework without permission, so this is why he was shut down. i was running newguy 6 for a few days and it ran great, but have since switched to warm 2.2, the rom that newguy is based off of.
use this rom instead - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809985
It wasn't just because of swype, some people need to read up a bit more before posting incorrect information. He was using framework, from a different rom, and passing it off as his own, not giving credit, etc...
The rom i posted above is much better, you will be happy with that one.

he wasn't using warm's framework, he was using the whole rom as his. but anyway, if you want to use the real deal, flash warm two point two rls3. this rom kills all past warm rls and "the lame guy"......

manually is always best, rom manager has been sucking it for a while know. make sure you completly wipe everything. people have been reporting BS bugs because they don't wipe....

I can definitely vouch for Myn's Warm rom. And to be specific, Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 3 rom is not available in rom manager.
"The New Guy" rom developer broke the rules on many different fronts and has since been banned by the senior members who built this community.
It would be greatly beneficial for you to research and learn how to use the recovery mode of your phone to manually install roms. You're already rooted, so if you haven't already, spend the 6 bucks for Titanium backup pro and Root Explorer, they are worthy investments.
Always read the rom developers full original post (OP) before installing roms.
Most will tell you that you need to wipe 3 things prior to installing a new rom:
1)Wipe data/Factory reset
2)Wipe cache
3)Wipe the Dalvik cache
Some devs will tell you that you do not need to do all steps if you are upgrading the same rom, but again, read the OP to be sure.
I hope this helps. Good luck my friend.
Im pretty familiar with the process. but im also lazy. and my laziness usually wins. thanks for the help, ill check out this rom.
so i have checked out the suggested rom. seems to work well, but im back to having usb tether not work. ive tried quite a few roms, and the only one that works is the newguy 5
i really dont understand how no one else is having this issue. what could be different between these roms?
when i plug my phone into usb, and select mobile broadband connect, i get something called "android phone" as an unknown device. the modem hardware does not show up at all. any suggestions?
Flash 10.1 will not install on NewGuy 6
not to go crazy off track again, but i believe he said that his rom was based off myns. there were obviously a lot of changes made to it-your example about usb tethering working on it and not on myns. its like building a rom based off the htc release and saying that you didnt actually do anything with it, all roms start somewhere. the actual reason it got deleted though was beacuse of swype, using other roms as a base is in no way against the rules. rebranding a rom-which isnt what he did-is.
just my two cents. stoney go ahead and freak out on me, we all know how much of a myn follower you are, which is fine. but stop trash talking our devs, things like that drive people away from our community. ive seen quite a few threads pop up about the bullying and unnecessary asshole behavior thats been going on lately. if you dont like the rom, dont use it. nobody is asking you to, but that doesnt give you a reason to trash talk it.
i personally am building a rom based off nils business sense-its the closest i could find to the stock latest htc release-im on ubuntu and cant use the ruu-but ill be incorporating a lot of the theme and overall feel of tng, plus a few of the features he added. if your looking for something that feels similar to tng, keep yur eyes on the boards for the next few weeks,

Without being tight mate, if you can't understand a tutorial, or install froyo/eclair bootloaders, then I would respectfully suggest that cm is not for you.
Try doing alot more reading - if you'd have done even a minimal amount before posting this request, you would know that voodoo lagfix has nothing to do with cyanogenmod.
The more you do to help yourself, the more inclined others will be to help.

every1 begins somewhere, undermining me doesnt really bother me. this forum is 2 help if you guys are too lazy to help me out thats your problem. i dont need u guys to call me incapable and unworthy of moding my phone. i posted and stated CLEARLY my level in this stuff, if you are unwilling 2 provide me with what I have asked for thankyou for viewing.
alos @ woolfclubs a Tutorial involves Step by step explaining from Ground ZERO, if some1 is willing 2 make a Video tutorial would be WAY simpler than making screenshots etc.
When i put simply honey on my phone it took no longer than 15 minutes with the help of a friend over skype. I would say if i have the files i could do it in 10(as there was trial and error). So am I asking for SO much?

If you can't be arsed to do the same, then I doubt you'll get help here.

Take heed on the advice given buddy. You should not be flashing cm7 period....
If you don't know about bootloaders, how to revert to froyo or use search in Google, just enjoy gingerbread.
Nobody is going to write you a personal tutorial on flashing when there are dozens of guides already plus I can only imagine the pages of troubleshooting you will generate. It is a Rom not for the faint hearted.

Hi bud, i have installed numerous custom roms following instructions found on websites and i would NEVER touch cyanogen in it's current form. It is not stable enough for general day to day usage unless you are able to update regularly from the nightlies. Even then it is still too unstable to be of any use.
The new 2.3.4 stock rom is brilliant and has very few bugs (if any). If you really don't want to use a stock rom and are insistent on using a CM7 rom then i recommend Insanity instead. It is a very stable rom, supports ext4 file format, is based on CM7 but has none of the limitations that CM7 currently has.
The posts above were advising you very politely that if the instructions for installing CM7 are too difficult then not only are you going to have problems installing it but also using it too.
Hope all that helps
wow. i do not understand how you have time 2 sit here and tell me what a fool i am that i dont read etc. is it physically impossible for some1 not 2 understand how 2 do this? every thread i have read has numerous things i do not understand. reading something that i only understand about 20% of doesnt help.
I'm actually happy theres a person that replied without being an ass . Ty lembi2001 for making it clear that that rom has instability issues etc. I would appreciate any tutorials that are helpful, and also any suggestions on custom roms that look sweet and run well?
theres nothing wrong with the 1 im currently running. simplyhoney is giving me a quadrant benchmark of 1858, but i saw the cyanogen 1 and saw the limitless customizations available and thought it would be good.

My point exactly.
I know how to flash and cm7 is biach of a setup. Many things can and seem to go wrong. Nightlys sometimes improve things, sometimes not and then you have to revert back to some other nightly to then another bla bla bla.
Someone new to flashing will for sure run into problems.
Cm7 will be great when its sorted but for now why not just upgrade to stock JVQ.
Edit. Saw your last post.
Who's being rude???
you I think.
You're the one proclaiming you know nothing about flashing and unable to understand written directions. I never said you were dumb? Wtf.

Stick with JVP etc until a final cm7 is out.

Well, non-technics should not use CM7 then. If the latest nightly has some heavy bugs just restore the CWM-backup you have done before.
And you don't have to flash each nightly.

@b3ava - as far as quadrant scores go they are not worth the screen they are displayed on. Run quadrant three times in a row and you will see that it changes each time.
I honestly don't recommend CM7 to you because of the numerous problems you will encounter. Try the rom i recommended to you and see how you feel about it.
@Lunchbox - where in what i put is the Bullsh!t that you so eloquently pointed out? I was merely advising to another user that they WILL encounter problems with CM7. How do you know that he doesn't use the Radio on a day to day basis? How do you know that he doesn't require the ability to record HD video? As i previously stated it is too unstable for day to day usage. You also forgot to point out the 2G/3G toggle bug, No Low Power mode. I don't intend on getting into an argument with you about this but you shouldn't be so flippant as disregard VALID points so abruptly.
@Lembi: you said that it isn't usable cause of bugs and so on. I'm happy that I can do everything with my phone until it shuts off because of no battery. 2G/3G-toggle: easy solution: the energysteering (don't know the exact english word , it's a widget). With this you can easily enable/disable 3G without any problems.
So CM7 is not such buggy you said.
Sorry, for saying 'Bullsh*t'. But you are right: if you want a perfect ROM where everything works you shouldn't choose CM.

What ROM to go for these days?

I hope someone would be kind to suggest what ROM I should go for these days.
My story is: I went with MDJ 2.6 NAND version and have been using it since it was published... I had no major problems or anything of that kind; 3G data works fine, GPS, navigation with CoPilot, etc... so everything works just fine and the biggest reason I stayed with it is it's battery - it is ridiculously GOOD! I get 1.5-2 days easily with my usage which tents to be most usage of web usage - not much talking to be quite honest.
Can someone suggest a CM7 ROM with good battery and definitely improvement in speed interface wise?
Thank you much!

Before I start flaming, I recommend HyperDroid.
By this thread, you want about 10 people going around and flashing every ROM available out there and provide you with a summary of how good the build is? that's not going to happen .. You need to go looking for the ROM that fits YOU not us ! Even if you didn't like HyperDroid, I couldn't care less, because being it MY favourite ROM doesn't mean it's everybody's ..
tyween's typhoon rom is always up to date.

Thank you much on your thoughtful response and help - I hope my thread did not ruin your royal fantastic day. I have read all the reviews but reading does not provide personnel experiences other than "here is what works here is what does not"... so, again - thank you - great help from a Senior member.

No need to flame - I appreciate the help because I am thinking of Hyper ROM as well - read everything about it and it appears typhoon gets more visits and updates but does not mean it is better.
Again - thank you for your shared experience with Hyper...
On another note: experiences wise - when you buy something on for example best buy.com you check ratings ... ratings are left by other members where they explain what they liked about the item - and many people rely on those... thats what I was looking for here - ratings from current users... if that flames you or anybody else, I do not see that's a problem with the thread but your individual one... anoyhow, I do appreciate your help.

it wasnt a flame just a fact
theres about 80 threads asking the same question with all the same answers
I use Dorimanx ROM, good if you don't mind updating every other day. I'd stay away from swap though, no matter what excuse the author gives I still don't think you would need/want swap. Get the "revert to light" edition of it. I was also a former MDJ fan, so maybe you'll like this too
roms
I like typhoon as well...Very stable updated and no connection problems or bugs that I have seen.

Hindsight is 20/20..[Kill this thread]

Started this thread about Zero Hero before I was aloud to post in the Dev threads (yes i was a noob, still am) But I have learned since then....So I edited it in the hopes that no one will post anything else in here and the thread will die!!! I know I bumped it by editing....but lets let this thread die.....
Please take all comments about Zero Hero to the proper Development thread---> Zero Hero Sense 3.5
this shouldve been posted in the roms thread.
Or not at all

How is it running? I'm running it on my phone for about half a day and it seems okay.. i was expecting it to run a little bit faster! And r u having problems with sms because I can't seem to receive any messages?
Sorry, I know im a NOOB and all, but is this not the general discussion forum? This is a general discussion about a particular ROM....If i am wrong please correct me and I will gladly STFU and keep my comments to myself.
And for the record the ROM is quite sluggish, reboots when disconnected and reconnected to/from a car charger, incoming calls went straight to VM when answered, mad battery drain, will not reconnect to WIFI....not sure about messages yet...
But on the bright side, it is eye candy.

It always will be sluggish because Sense is a memory hog and the Hero has small memory to begin with. I personally don't run into any reboot excepts for the few after the first boot. As for calls and texts I can't test that because my Hero is deactivated. But I haven't had any issues with WiFi ever on my builds both with college WiFi up in Santa Cruz and at home here in San Diego.

Just calling it like i see it. Not knocking any work, as it is way over my head. The WIFI just kept reverting to "error", no text messages came through, but they did save to Google voice so i did find them...but when I couldn't pick up the calls, I had to abandon this one for now...
Everything else looks awesome from here!
Yea there is a sms problem with this rom.. many of my friends called me asking why I didn't reply to their message but I never received em. Other than that this rom is very nice!!
Fix has already been worked up.

Just wanted to put in my two cents on this rom. I absolutely love this rom. I tend to run aosp Roms since they are pretty lightweight for our processor and quick. This rom isn't as fast as an aosp rom can be. It does however run quick enough that I don't mind the occasional hang up or lag. I hadn't ran a sense rom in over a year and a half. But I do like this one.
I tend to only use my phone to make calls, the occasional text, and to tether my tablet which this rom seems to do wonderfully. When I was running jaybobs rom I was happy with the clock settings at 352 and 532. I have it cranked up to 768 with this rom. Never had been able to overclock that high until his kernal and was actually a major reason I tried this rom.
You would think that after being a member of xda for more than a year that I would have more than 3 posts but most of the time you guys explain stuff well enough that I don't need to ask any questions.
Just wanted to say thanks to all the developers and people that are willing to answer questions. It is always appreciated even if us "lurkers" don't let you know.
Thanks

From a previous lurker, time to quit lurking!!! We need more posters so we can have stuff to talk about! Like MattCrystal said, there's a lot of us out there, so let's post and make it known.
(And I'll try not to shoot down any more stupid questions... unless they're deserving)

YES
I 100% agree....LONG LIVE ZERO HERO
The RC1 zero hero kicks ass!!
probably one of the fastest sense roms for me.
how do you check to see if the cpu is being clocked correctly.
i keep using and leaving sense because the lag is insane compared to asop.

i do use setcpu. its just that the cpu keeps fluctuating and it doesn't seem to improve too too much

Its a 2 year old phone.. your asking it to do something it CAN'T do. Fact.
I would like to just stop in and say thanks to all who have worked on this. Have not been into the droid scene for long but have learned so much. This rom is my favorite sense type rom. Small time issues that can be overlooked are fine by me. And after backing this rom up and then booting back into stock. Then using titanium backup to back up Sprint TV and a few other things. Then Booting back into Zero Hero and restoring those apps they work flawless. (sorry i have a child who likes to watch that sprint tv, keeps her occupied when im busily getting something done)
Thank you all of you guys. Out of 5 roms i have tried me and my girlfriend like this one the best.
