Lost Samsung Galaxy Note - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hello Everyone,
I lost my samsung galaxy note in Singapore airport when I am changing my flight to Adelaide. I am very disappointed about it. I tried all the ways by searching via Samsung Dive. I tried installing droidlost and Plan B apps to track my mobile. Since I have inserted my Indian SIM when the phone lost and unfortunately I changed to Airplane Mode. Now I am not able to track it by sending sms for activating the app since the SIM is on international roaming (if the guy who got my phone switches ON). Kindly please let me know any alternatives. I am very frustrated and hard earned mobile. Please.
Regards,
Kamal

Call your provider and ask them to block the IMEI, this way the phone will be un-usable as a phone, And if someone has already placed a working SIM into it, Your carrier should know its location.
Dial up the pressure and get them to help you !

Actually it can be tracked but in indian system they dont even care

Hi. I suggest you contact the ICA (Immigration Checkpoint Authority) of Sillypore to see whether they found your lost Note.
Don't worry about them stealing, cause they're reliable.

That's very unfortunate to hear. I too am trying to track down my Galaxy Note. I was at the bus station the other day and someone asked to borrow my phone for a call. I was just doing a good deed but he ran away with it. I've also tried plan B but it seems like the thief has already unassociated the google account. I'd like to know too if there are any other ways to track down the note knowing only the serial number?

I don't want to disappoint you but I think it's kind of hopeless. It takes nothing more than a wipe of the system to eliminate the tracking capablity using Samsung dive. Let alone the possibility to flash a new rom. I'd informe my provider about the loss and get a new phone. I know that's not what you.expected but it's reality.

If anyone knows the slightest thing about android then they will now that they can erase everything in recovery (stock or custom) leaving no tracking apps installed.
However...... That being said, there are more apps being developed lately that are designed to survive a full wipe from recovery, so make sure to look in to it for future references.
Avast ! is one of these apps and I highly recommened trying it, But also, Spend some time online looking and comparing all the different security apps, Dont be afraid to pay for one if it is worth it ! because it could be a matter of paying <£5 for an app, or losing a >£300 phone !
On a side note, Most providers wont give a crap if you lose your phone, They will just block it and still force you to pay them, So dont always rely on them to help you if something goes wrong !
Finally, without dragging this post on for too long, Its nice the guy above tried to do a good deed, But in future DONT !! I know this sounds harsh, But in most places of the world people only want 1 thing........ MONEY ! and they will do what ever they can to get it.
Who doesnt own a mobile ? you can pick up a $hitter for less than £10 ! there are dozens of phoneboxes out there and even reverse charge numbers.
So keep your witts about you next time you try to do a good deed for someone :good:

To the guy who said move on to note 2
Got news for you... not all of us can afford to, or want to . I'm more than happy with mine. Ill wait until we have 4g here and get the note 3.
I've put features off the 2 on mine ,&they work fine . Also use ram boosters ,which along with oc speeded it up no end .

You can with a bit of fiddling put a tracking app into the system, hide the icon .we all know about root etc but we are not normal !?users. Most people thinl a phone is a phone .My gf and friends just roll their eyes when I pull mine out and try to show my new pet OS !

Is Samsung spying on us with the Note and other devices?

I just saw this news and I am floored by this. I am a firm believer in my right to privacy and this is just absurd.

No. Only affects US carrier-supplied phones from what I've read elsewhere.
If you bought the phone outright and it's loaded with non-carrier branded firmware you wouldn't be affected.
I haven't used a carrier-supplied phone (esp one that wasn't wiped with a custom rom) for years so I can't comment if such practices are also common by Operators in countries other than the US.

Well there is some evidence its on samsung devices as epic 4g as its HTC made. Now reports are it was included in 3.1.3 iOS but disabled only working in debug mode. Now I wonder if its just a debug mode thing since in order to capture we need debug. Also worried its called something else on the phones. What's tracker in our apps??? I'm not fresh loaded but maybe someone else can research now that this cat is out of the bag.

Can someone here who is rooted and running the original Note firmware install the Logging Test app and check if CIQ is on the Note?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17612559
edit: It looks like CIQ is not installed on the Note.
Guys before u take up arms just think about all the apps that you install.
Most, if not all have access to your personal info.
I am sure every carrier will use the info to do study how the general popluation is doing ( not true always though ) but what about the the people who get all ur contacts and email info...
If u use internet , forget about all privacy... its not there anymore
Really? Have you even read what's going on, and watched TrevE's video? The thing here is that we can't opt-out, we didn't know that CIQ did this, the logs are not encrypted and it also logs your web history and passwords.
If you are OK with this i feel sorry for you. This is spying.
But again, it doesn't look like the Note has this.

We are right to be concerned. If you don't speak up about privacy concerns, even when they don't directly affect you, then we will come to a time when these types of apps and disregard for personal privacy are so prevalent that there will be nothing we can do.
First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

how so? It was in iOS and Apple has a much better control over their firmware than any other manufacturers who bend over backwards to US carriers.
Also read what apple said carefully.
We stopped supporting CarrierIQ with iOS 5 in most of our products and will remove it completely in a future software update. With any diagnostic data sent to Apple, customers must actively opt-in to share this information, and if they do, the data is sent in an anonymous and encrypted form and does not include any personal information. We never recorded keystrokes, messages or any other personal information for diagnostic data and have no plans to ever do so.
what the hell does it mean by "most" and does this mean all iOS4 devices will have carrier IQ builtin?
I'm pretty disgusted by this Carrier IQ. Whether they do or do not review the information but they have no right to collect personal information without our consent
iPhone 4 still running Carrier IQ:
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...-4-but-we-dont-read-your-e-mail-and-texts.ars
It really comes down to the carrier is where our privacy is dug into by the contract we sign. I do not agree about this and will only buy in contract phones or switch to ios in the future. Shame on the carriers!

This seems a fairly balanced article (surprisingly from CNN):

A good reader comment from the Washington Post:
Do you perform online banking on your mobile device? If yes, then Carrier IQ has learned your Login ID and Password despite being securely protected via HTTPS.
Do you carry your mobile device everywhere you go? If yes, then Carrier IQ has learned where you family lives, where you work, where your daughter or son goes to school, where your relatives live during the holidays, and where you take your daughter or son to the park, etc..
Do you share your private and secret information through text messages across your spouse, your son or your daughter? If yes, then Carrier IQ has learned all about them and you thought no one else would ever know.
Do you use secured data storage apps on your mobile phone? If yes, then Carrier IQ has learned your social security numbers, all bank account numbers, all credit card numbers, secret security codes, and all your login IDs and Passwords you use for work and at home. They also know the server location or name and know how long they have left before your passwords expire.
Do you store all the contact numbers of your family members and relatives on your mobile device? If yes, then Carrier IQ has learned your spouses contact number for both mobile and work, your daughter's or your son's number, your grandfather's or grandmothers, your sisters and brothers, your office mates, your employer, and everyone else you've entered into your mobile device.
Now, can you imagine the kinds of illegal and unlawful activities this kind of power and information can do to harm you, your family, your children, your employer, your coworkers, your loved ones simply by using social engineering methods to connect the dots to find all of your weak spots and personal vulnerabilities?
So when Apple says they stopped suppirtung in most iOS 5 products is that because its not installed on ipod nanos and touches...just the iphone 4 and 4s...right? See i think they were very sneaky with their wording... Its not like they said its installed on this this and this, is it.

The Verge have a great Story stream page on Carrier IQ for anyone interested in a general overview or dig deep on this topic.
personally I found it unacceptable to have a key logger rootkit installed on my smart phone. I use my phone to do online purchases, access my work emails and check my bank accounts.
I'd not buy a computer with rootkit installed, so should a smart phone perform similar functions be any different.
Carrier IQ so far have not answered even the basic questions of what information is being tracked, how the information is stored and if our personal information is being kept safe.

Any issues on LTE Note 10.1

Hey guys & gurls,
Getting my Note 10.1 LTE tomorrow, and I'm just wondering if there are any issues that I should be aware of before turning the great device into an even greater one with the help of everyone here.
Any info would be great.
Thanks,
Evil.
Nobody has anything to tell me?
Cheers,
Evil.
there arent any issues for note 10.1 so you should not be worry about anything
Yep, in Australia all I can find is the 16Gb version of the LTE(4G) model... This is too small, I need at least 32Gb...:crying:
No problems using the LTE10.1 here in Germany either. Apart from it being addictive. And the disruption to meetings while folks check out the handwriting to text.... or in my case, scrawl to text.

Darkman [ROM][STOCK][4.1.2][BMC3] ★★N8020★★ Stock Rooted Busybox Deodexed (CWM) [12/05/2013]
Still I use this thing at Uni for lecture notes, student admin type stuff and in campus emails and I cannot imagine studying without it... Its priceless and gets a lot of attention especially from iPad (iPoo??) owners... very gratifying...

Well actually I couldn't help myself.. this will back up and then restore your apn..

Its free too and highly rated so should be fine.
Ill look into flashing 2.3 tomorrow so will update on how that apps plays out for me but don't forget your trlco can help too. Customer support should be able to txt you the settings and once the message is opened it auto fills the setting for you. We used to do it for customers back in thenso surely even the telco themselves should have an app that solves it??

[Q] Galaxy S4 - excellent choice!

I've had my first S4 for 7 days. Needed 3 hard resets in the first week - UI freezes, hangs etc. Took it back to Telstra, confirmed bad hardware and gave me a new phone. Second handset has been fantastic - fast, smooth, stable.
Most Samsung features work pretty well - drama shot for junior sports coaching is an excellent idea. Love the fact that I can upgrade storage via SD card, link with Dropbox and can swap the battery for higher capacity if needs be. No need as yet - heavy use and my battery lasts more than 10 hours.
If you experience any interface issues, get the handset swapped: probably just a rare lemon. Thanks to everyone who responded on this thread.
Initial issues: features are unstable (gestures, air view, smart scroll, interface and keyboard hangs).
Now I definitely don't regret this new phone having used many different types over the years (Blackberry, HTC TiTan Windows mobile, iPhone 3, iPhone 4, now Android).
Send it back to Telstra for a replacement

Should be fine. No issues what so ever with mine on Optus - rooted and remove all Optus craps.
Of course it will. When you have all your music, pictures and some data sitting on a slow device (like an old sd card), then indexing slows down (picture gallery, videos, music. map data). Like any IT system, a fast phone will be slowed down by the slowest link - if that bottleneck is the sd card, then it needs to be remediated.
That is the reason why I did not get the S4. To new technology for me to mess with.

Will definitely update the thread title to more accurately reflect my experience with the device. But surely I need more than 3 hours for the device to prove itself??
Flash performance, and SW performance degrades over time, so I'm giving this phone 48 hours to prove it's stable, before changing my mind.
I'm not convinced yet, but at least the signs are positive in the first 3 hours.

My gs4 got stolen, location by IMEI ?

My Samsung Galaxy s4 was stolen last night when i was traveling in a cab.. it slipped out of my pocked and phone is offline now probably stolen by the driver. It was on at one time as my provider told me that the SIM was active, called it nobody answered, then they turn off the phone!
How can i get the location by IMEI?
Ive got to the mobile provider they said you should of installed trakcing app(Pff bulgaria)
Ive got to the police station but they say they cant guarantee to find it.
You are my only hope XDA forum :crying:
If you didn't already have tracking software setup on the phone, no chance. Think about it; a utility that enables anyone to check the location of any device by IMEI would be abused something chronic. Only intelligence agencies & law enforcement have access to that type of stuff, and good luck getting them to do it for a stolen phone.

How would it get abused when evry IMEI is unquie.
I'm waiting for other responses.
If that isn't really obvious to you, you're not thinking hard enough. You do that (wait for other responses), but as I said, it's only possible for the organisations I mentioned, and they ain't doing it for your phone.
I agree with MistahBungle, tracking ability needs to be set up prior to the phone being lost/stolen. You're better off getting your phone blocked and locked so it ceases to be of use for the person who has it.

What about something like the below app? you can try to install from the play store and see if you can get your phone to return some details and maybe even wipe it its looking unlikely you'll get it back.

Does Root cause problems

Ok I been on here a long time and I've had SEVERAL phones . The Note 3 is puzzling me and I don't know what else to do but come to the community . I cannot get good service in my house, Verizon provided me with a Network Extender. Although it improved my signal and reception TREMENDOUSLY I now cannot get any text messages. I've done several different trouble shooting techniques and I also had someone come over that has Verizon (same phone not rooted ) to see if their phone Would do the same as mine. So she text me and it never went thru but she was able to receive all her text messages. Can root be causing my issues?
Or can anyone give me any insight on this

Not getting SMS is a network thing - 100% network thing. It's fundamental to Android so I doubt any rom would be causing it. I only say this because one time - I stopped getting SMS / MMS on my Verizon Phone for several days. Thinking it was just a glitch, I let it go for a few days. Finally I called Verizon and they had me do several hours worth of factory resets, tests, and then finally elevated it a level higher. Each level required me to do all the carp, factory resetting, etc... which I kindly did because they were required to do it. Finally, I got elevated to the highest tech, who really knew his stuff (really nice guy) - found out that someone had terminated SMS/MMS on my line inside Verizon's servers somewhere. He actually had to contact someone else to turn it back on. Bam, got my SMS/MMS back. Took about a week.
May or may not be related.
If anything I'd blame the network extender. Do you get SMS/MMS outside of your house?
I thought it was network extender also...yes i do get them out side my house ..i also get them inside my house if the extender is off. But then when my sister phone got them fine on the same phone and she text me and I couldn't get them I did not understand that part

Wow that sucks... Yeah, when I lived with my parents back in my Droid 1 days, we got a network extender and we had nothing but problems with it. So, we chose to just live with the 1 bar of reception.

Looks like other people having same problems - of course no solution or fix on any of those links. That would frustrate me to no end. I'll keep my eye out and let you know if I find anything.
Uggghhh. Well dang...

Definitely call Verizon about this issue. Maybe check APN settings too. I understand that's primarily for data but it couldn't hurt to check

Maybe cause the network extender uses your broadband for data, not the phones cellular network. That way Verizon puts the signal burden on your ISP, not themselves. I've heard that MMS doesn't work when not on cellular network.
