[Q] Windows 8 on Omnia 2?

When the windows 8 was released and are able to support ARM processors, I was elated.
So I went about looking for ways to install and review the windows 8 for myself on my netbook. And I must say, I am pretty impressed so far.
The foot print of the platform is definitely smaller and the running of apps much more efficient than its predecessor OSs.
Now I am all hyped about wanting to port the windows 8 to my phone.
I was surfing around the web for installation info or guides to port the windows 8 onto my Omnia 8. But I cannot find anything useful.
Any one here knows how to do that?
Please advise.

Yeah... I know.
But I am sure the ARM version will be scaled down to fit mobile devices.
Take the tablets for example, if the windows 8 is not scaled down specifically for the ARM versions, a 16GB tablet would only have about 2GB of memory left after the windows 8 "Upgrade".
Then those who have 8GB tablets, would not be able to even consider installing windows 8 on them!
hmm... looks like we will have to wait for the mobile versions to be released.
Any news or rumours in the grapevine?
Have you guys learned anything more about the Windows 8 RT/mobile version. It would be really great if someone can port it to the Omnia 2.

[q] windows 8 on hp tx2???

i have a Tx2-1005au, it's a multi touch enabled convertible tablet laptop. i was wondering if it was possible to install Windows 8 on it....i recently downloaded the 32 bit preview iso from the net.
i tried to install (dual boot) it in my desktop, but it refused 2 get installed...d popup said "get the x64 bit preview to enjoy Windows 8". apparently, am running a custom version of Windows 7 on my desktop (Razor Light Annihilation x64 bit).
on my laptop, am having a 32bit version of another custom Windows7 (dream edition) on my laptop. can i install it on my lappy?????.....the reason am bugging you guys wid dis question is am having all f mah college projects on my laptop along with my android development apps, etc, etc...so if it stops booting,i'll be in deep sh*t.....please guyz, gimme a lead!!!!!......waiting eagerly for reply
Just buy some blank dvds and burn a backup copy of all your schoolwork and development onto them if they're that important to you, its standard procedure with OS installs.
Definately put windows 8 on that badass tablet pc of yours and experience the future

How did you get ICS working? Does the touchscreen work on ICS too?
I'm so JEALOUS! My tx2's motherboard burnt out on me, and it's virtually impossible to find a new replacement. It's not under warranty either. It was a manufacturer's defect though..
If any of you awesome Tx2 and Tm2 users know where I can find one, please PM me!

How do you know its "burnt out"? Do you get the blinking caps and no. lock?
If you do, then its usually very much fixable.
One google search later..
Here is a new motherboard, its £80.

Truthfully, I think that might be the first thing that the devs can't pull off... The again, Windows 8 will have ARM support (read: no legacy apps, where 99.9% of windows x86/64 bit).... so we'll wait and See.
Dont get your hopes up, its closed source.
most likely, it's not happin'n
I tend to agree that it won't happen, people will try, they might make progress but it seems unlikely.
I think I'd rather just wait for official Windows 8 tablet hardware. They'll no doubt be superior (since most will run Tegra 3 if not 4), and who knows what they'll do with the digitizers. I'm hopeful that we'll get a Wacom digitizer that handles both capacitive touch and resistive with extensive pressure sensitivity for use in digital illustration. Time will tell.

Yeah but how about W8 running on a 100$ piece of hardware? I mean how inexpensive can you get?
Why do people worry so much about Windows ARM version not running legacy apps?? New apps will be created for Windows 8 that integrate with Metro, I'm pretty sure that all respectable software companies and even independent developers are starting to plan and make ARM based apps for Windows 8. Windows 8 will be powerful, and software companies need to start developing the next generation of applications eventually.
ARM is the future, x86 is done and I refuse to buy an Intel tablet or next gen AMD all-in-one. And please don't tell me you want to open your excel spreadsheet on your tablet on your way home on the train, on, cause it's not 'cool'. /vent

Mikey$oft doing something right?
Well I had faith in them when I got my HD7 running WP7 and installed Windows 7 for the first time.... Basically they had me from the 'Start'
But to be honest I'm using Windows 8 now and I can't explain it but it just 'feels' different, kinda like my cell phone and PC had a baby.
Well I know that the hp touchpad wont be able to run it. A developer said it would be impossible.
I really dont think microsoft will allow you to load win 8 tablet on any tablet, im sure there going to try and control everything

[Q] Which tablet to buy for windows 8 cp?

Hey guys,
i want to buy a tablet with 3G connection soon and planning to spend not more than 350€ / 460$.
Which tablet would you buy to install windows 8 cp ?
Thx for your help!
Cheers
TOmatoe
Do you know the WePad or ExoPC?
Just google a little bit & find out if it is soemthing for you.
I bought it one week ago and upgraded it with 2GB ram + 80GB SSD.
Win8 works quiet well on the pad, and it has the necessarry resulution for the split screen function where a second programm is shown on a third of the screnn size.
thx for the hint. I read very good and very bad ratings for the WeTab. Battery Life has too be very weak and the touchscreen is not very reative i read.
Does 3G / WLan work on WeTab with Windows 8?
I am looking for a reactive, snappy Tablet.
deleted
The first post was written with my WeTab under WiFi.
And this post using my mobile phone sim from my HD7 (3 Austria)
The touch behavior under W8 is excellent in my opinion.
Only the g-sensor isn't working correct at the moment and the light sensor is a bit strange sometimes. Haven't tested Bluetooth & HDMI so far.
I'm using Windows 8, Android 3.2.2, Android 4.0.3 and Ubuntu 12.04 Beta on the tab for testing and application development at the moment.
[Edit]
Changed back from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS ==> 11.10 due to touchscreen driver instabilities
I also have to buy a tablet and I would like to have Windows and Intel compatibility with Microsoft's worldwide, recommended buying now a windows 7 compatible with windows 8 in the future, or wait for the release of Windows 8? I saw the hp 2, it recommended? know other tablet?
suggest
I suggest you wait for the final release before buying a tablet.
Have tried it on HP Slate 2 , only not working properly is the N-Trig and it cannot detect your Sim Card for 3G connection.
for now windows 8 is in beta test, i think this problem there are because windows 8 are not final.
i would like to buy hp to use for now with windows 7 and after with windows 8 but i don't know if this hp will be ok for new windows 8.
at the moment which tablet would you recommend to buy to use with windows 7, 3G, Wifi??

Personally I wouldn't buy any tablet hardware currently out, especially for a consumer preview. Wait until fall, when things are finalized and there are some good tablets at reasonable prices, specifically designed for Windows 8. Then you'll be in a far better position to get the best hardware with native support, the features you want, at a price you'll be comfortable paying. Patience is a virtue

Asked the same question myself.
dhgate.com have some great value tabs. ~$300 US (with $30 off at the moment) for a 1.66 atom 2gb ram and 32gb ssd.
In my opinion for the price why not go for it, in fact i'm about to.

you can always run android on it or whatever you want if win8 doesn't work out.
I'm going to have a play with one of these then maybe invest on a WoA version when they come out. The Nokia one sounds pretty cool.

If you are looking for something good, then i suggest you wait until the official windows 8 is released or atleast the RC version comes out so that manufacturers and start building tablets optimized for windows 8 that will be snappy, responsive and have long sustaining battery life. It's too early to suggest one right now. Have some patience

Windows 8.1 New Version or Big Update?

Hi,
is there something know if Windows Blue will be a new Version you need to buy, or if Microsoft brings Christmas forward and all Win 8 users get the new Update??
For PC it doesn't matter for me, i'll get the new 8.1 but for Surface??
Also it would be nice to know if a complete reinstalle is necessary.
Would be great if someone has some Information about this

Almost surely it won't require a complete reinstall. The are going to bring back the Start Menu in a limited form. It will just be a link to the desktop and not include the full Start Menu. This follows a planned move: a boot to desktop option. Microsoft will add an option to allow users to boot directly to the traditional desktop.

That sounds great. I'm really looking forward to the 50:50 dock
8.1 is interesting. Per MS' new "devices & services" direction, it would've been a paid update in normal circumstances--as also denoted by the "8.1" designation, since only "service packs" were free updates under the old regime. But I agree with others that it'll be a free update, as circumstances are definitely not normal. Win8's foothold is tenuous at best, and the antipathy it has engendered would be nothing compared to the sh!tstorm that would occur if MS decides to charge for this one. I doubt even MS is that oblivious.
As for the "menu or button" thing, it's not cast in stone. We'll see what happens. It may seem a little amusing that such a trivial change is even debated over, but that is how delicately Metro's fate hangs in the balance.
I like the turmoil. Turbulence is good, as it rouses the monopolist and forces it to compete on other than sheer inertia (which there still is plenty of). That usually means a better widget or a better price, and either way the consumer wins.
It's safe to guess that Wintel toys will be cheaper come this holiday season. That would not happen if Win8 was a breakout hit. Thank Apple for its trailblazing, Android for its lowballing, and MS for its usual ineptness. Tomorrow is another fun day.

No It's A Big Update.
You can update your windows 8 pro or RT to win 8.1 pro preview by downloading 9 MB from win store then while installing the 9MB pack it will download immediately 1GB or more...
If you are running other vertion of windows (other than pro or RT) you have to download the hole windows 2.5 GB (32bit) / 3.5 GB (64bit)
Hope I helped you
