Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), offers Ice Cream Sandwich on a seven-inch platter
It looks like Samsung has just taken the wraps off its latest tablet offerings, with the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) -- an ICS-laced follow-up to the company's original seven-incher. Available in both 3G and WiFi varieties, this redux doesn't mark a huge departure from its predecessor, packing a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 1024 x 600 LCD. The big changes, however, come in the software department, with the Galaxy Tab 2 shipping with Android 4.0 straight out of the box. Other than that, you'll find a three-megapixel rear-facing camera, a VGA shooter up front, Bluetooth capabilities, and HSPA+ connectivity. No word yet on pricing or availability, but it's worth noting that we first saw this announcement hit Samsung's RSS feed earlier this morning, and it appears to have been pulled since then. It all looks awfully official to us, but when it becomes officially official, we'll be sure to update this post accordingly. Until then, be sure to head past the break for a shot of its backside.

Maybe, the galaxy note 10.1 is good for you
They're yet to mention whether this or the new Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 have the Tegra 2 chip, even if I didn't have my original Tab there's no way I'd buy it with a Tegra 2.

Really, ohhh come on Samsung why are you doing this, this is an inferior model compared to the galaxy 7.7 the only thing it has going for is ICS which the 7.7 doesn't at the moment. This is why Samsung is playing catch-up to Apple even though I deeply believe that the tabs are supperior but churning all these different models for what? Just concentrate on one single model and make it the best device available.

I would rather get the Asus transformer infinity 700.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
that would explain why samsung doesn´t upgrade the original tab to ICS
7" is good for carrying around, so 3G is a must-have feature.
Hi all,
Just received notification from Samsung that the SGS3 will NOT be getting any features like the Note 2 has ie. Multi Window, Popup Note or Idea sketch...Shame as they look awesome hope someone can PORT the apps or the Note 2 ROM
Well, I think it shouldn't be that hard to port a Note 2-ROM to the SGS 3, as they're based on nearly the same specs... Would be nice to see some of those features in a custom ROM though
There are already ROMs with the Note 2 gallery and camera, for example.

indeed but they are problematic for some people, i'd much prefer to see a full ROM port which cant be that difficult as hardware is pretty much identical, although there could be ram issues.
None of features sound that ground breaking. I will stick to the stock ROM + root. Thanks.

Can i get in on that action please?
Well this is obvious they have to make it different you can't expect to get every new feature that they release in they're new flagships

What exactly is it that you want to get? The note has a separate sensor on the screen for he stylus so you would get any short cuts or quick notes.
Anything else software related should be available to port.

Sooner or later we will all switch to CyanogenMod when Samsung stops updating our phones and newer Android versions released.
When you feature gets ported people say it's awesome, when it dosent people say it's not that good. :banghead:

Lol, why would they give you the Note's features on an S3? what's the point of a note then? xD
Cmon, you bought a phone and agreed to have what it had at that point of time, heck samsung doesn't even have to update it (the box had 4.0.4 and you agreed to that.
So be happy and stop complaining.
lets not question the validity of peoples need / want for these features, that's just stupid.
I also want Note 2 features and I have a solution...

I seem to have this feeling that we're not getting these features due to the lack of RAM (1GB vs 2GB).
IMHO Samsung should have really put 2GB into the GT-I9300...
Hopefully later revisions of the GT-I9300 will have 2GB of RAM. Fat chance but one can wish.

Well that depends on how soon it is. Like imagine iPhone 6 is coming out tmr. Will you buy the iPhone 5 now?
Samsung will normally just update 2 Android versions and the update is gone. That is about a year left for Key Lime Pie update I guess. So in the end I really don't mind not having Note 2 features. Plus I don't trust Samsung software features. Samsung is a hardware not a software company.
This past week, I noticed a dramatic decrease in forum activity. Perhaps many have already jump shipped to the N4. Whatever the reason, I hope there is still significant development and support until the new S4 is released. It was a short and sweet run as the best Android device. :crying:
Stop the drama.
Reported, activity is as usual.
Yeah noticed this also S1 & S2 forum's was significantly more active and still are to some degree than the S3 one.
Think it's down to a number of factors ie variations of the S3 doesn't help, alot jump ship to the LTE version when that was release, plus the Galaxy Note 2 & now the Nexus 4 as you said.
The Galaxy I9300 is no longer the top dog of smartphone, so intrest isn't there as much as past Galaxy Smartphones.

I remember the days when i had a Galaxy S1 and the forums were crowded!
It had countless roms and kernels! Not that we don't have enough here but there's no comparison...
I jumped ship from an I9300 to N7100.
The only thing I regret not having is the activity on the forum!
That... and Siyah dualboot!
All these freaking model variations are just gonna ruin everything because if you an early adopter maybe 2 months later another model with more Ram comes along and obviously everyone wants that and it has 10 months to build up a bigger scene and kill off any work done on the original.
I mean I was almost certain I was gonna get the S4 on release day but now things aren't as black & white as they where for S1 & S2.

This can go in the general thread.
Well it's now 2013 which means new line of smartphones in the next few months, to temp us to upgrade from our 2012 smartphones.
I've had my S3 since June, & tbh I don't personally feel the need to upgrade it to whatever comes out soon, as my S3 does everything i need it to atm & i don't see that changing anytime this year at least.
Ok 4G in the UK from other networks will be out at some point, & at a premium rates for a while, so the likes of Giffgaff ect won't see this until probably next year, and 3G in my area is good enough for the moment.
I also personally don't think 1gig of memory will become a limiting factor, not this year anyhow on software, but i could be wrong if game developer's decided to get to best from this year line up of top smartphones.
Now there no saying i won't upgrade as im a sucker for new tech, but i do feel the Galaxy S3 is still good enough for this year at least.
So what are your plans to you intend sticking with the S3 for 2013 or are ya gonna go upgrade to the SIV or whatever else is out this year?
I'll upgrade. Not sure to what though
I'll upgrade for sure... S4 or Note 3.
Definitely upgrading
Most probably to the s4
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Everyone will upgrade eventually, the s4 isnt due for another 5 months, alot of things can happen in that time
I will upgrade to S4 just to continue my collection of the S -> SIV and higher ^_^
i will upgrading S4 or Note3
i will not.
I'll be most likely sticking with my S3. Previously I kept my HTC Desire 2 years so I'd expect to keep it at least that long. In the end the poor internal memory did that phone for me. I don't have that problem this time so who knows I may keep it longer.

Yep, didn't realise how lucky I was because of the Nexus S helping with Galaxy S development. It was quite a shock with my S3 with how bad it was development wise. Next phone I choose, will be influenced heavily by how friendly it is for the devs. Touchwiz is simply not for me. Pure Android/Cyanogenmod is more up my street.
I think I'll pass SGS IV. I'm more interested in so-called X-Phones that Google will make. I know it's still just a rumor, but I can wait as I don't think SGS III will grow old that fast. It's still packing a very strong CPU & GPU.
I won't be upgrading as I will not be eligible for an upgrade until at least the end of 2014.
Jeez, I just got the S3
Upgrading to S4, defo

I'll definitely upgrade. The S3 is suffering from the too small memory of 1 MB, which makes the phone lag too much, if you run a lot of applications.

*** EDIT ***
Aparently a list of devices that will recieve 4.2.2 has just been leaked and Galaxy S2 is among them. Hurray!!
You can take a look at the list here: http://www.sammobile.com/2013/03/18...roid-5-0-for-the-galaxy-s-iii-galaxy-note-ii/
*** EDIT ***
So guys, with the announcement of Galaxy S4 all I wanted to see was how Samsung would implement Touchwiz on Android 4.2.2.
I'm probably one of the few around here who actually like Touchwiz, hahahahaha.
So I started watching a bunch of Hands-on videos of Galaxy S4 and noticed a few design changes that pleased me a lot.
1- Configuration screen is now divided into 4 tabs. Much more organized than stock Android.
2- Notification Bar now has the new button from Android 4.2.2 and Samsung used it to show all widgets (wifi, gps, etc).
Five widgets still remain fixed for fast access and I don't know if they can be edited. Probably yes.
3- Lockscreen now has widgets as expected. But I noticed lots of Samsung widgets in there including a player widget for fast access to play/pause, etc.
It seems Samsung loved this new feature and used it really well (better than having CM 10.1 and it's exclusive CLocK widget xD).
4- Status Bar is now transparent. This is something lots of people use to mod here in XDA so all I can think is Samsung is listening to us or at least peaking at XDA sometimes to see what people are doing with their phones. This is actually pretty awesome
5- Lots and lots of new Camera modes! I believe some of them are actually possible to implement for Galaxy S2.
Others like double camera (back and front) might have hardware limitations.
6- Smart Play: a video you are watching will pause if you look away from the screen.
7- Smart Scroll: tilting the device and moving your eyes will scroll a page on the Web or in the Gallery.
Moving your hands in the air to do the same thing is not yet clear if it uses the front camera to recognize the action or one of the new screen sensors.
8- Lots of new apps. S Voice Drive, S Translator, S Choice, New ChatON, etc.
9- Air touch? This will probably never come but it's so cool
Anyway. Let's wait and see if Samsung plans to update Galaxy S2 one final time to give us some of these treats. What do you guys think? Sorry for any English mistakes. I'm writing from my phone. Also don't hesitate to highlight anything about the new Touchwiz I might have missed in this post

Not a chance in hell. Sam is done supporting us. I don't see a reason why they would continue supporting S2. Samsung is a commercial company and they want consumers buy their new products rather than supporting the old products for free.

Re: Touchwiz 6 and Android 4.2.1, will we get it?
Besides they have given us support more than any other companies. Do you see another 2 year old phone getting 4.1.2? If you think of it, Samsung is good
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I have a feeling Samsung will surprise us all. 4.2.1 is still Jelly Bean and most probably the last Jelly Bean Google will ever release. So it would be good for Samsung to update its devices to the last Jelly Bean and call it a quit once and for all.
Re: Touchwiz 6 and Android 4.2.1, will we get it?
Many devices less powerful then us will get 4.2.2 like galaxy grand and SII+ then why not the original galaxy SII?

i like how everyones complaining that this phone with its vast amount of support, roms and devs is at its end.
I moved over to here froman Atrix 4g tegra2 phone.
The only tegra 2 device to NOT get ics we had one leak that has many issues and no kernel
its so serious devs are manually uart and jtagging the device and building a kernel from scratch.
And here people are complaing that this phone with its 4.1.2 leaks etc have a phone thats at the ed of its support.
this phone got great support from samsung .

Think about it this way, the SGS2+ is still a brand new phone on the market, and how will people feel who have just purchased it?
Same with the S3 mini which has near identical specs to us, they will have to update it, its only a few months old, and the update isn't exactly a major one.
Samsung's official statement is that they will bring the new features to their 'flagship devices' I know for sure the Note II, SIII and Note 10.1 fall under this category, but I'm not sure what else.
Also, I fail to see how our S2 can't support at least half of the new features.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I consider most of those features mere gimmicks than things that are actually useful. Especially the things that use the camera, that'll probably scoop up a lot of battery life... And the status bar being transparent: if they would make it configurable, that would be a step ahead! If Samsung does bring 4.2 to the S II, that would definitely be a good thing. But like the others said, I wouldn't hold my breath.
Many not hardware related features in the
Samsung Galaxy S 4 are coming to the
Samsung Galaxy S III and S II
The Samsung Galaxy S III is still a top-notch
phone. According to Nick DiCarlo, Samsung's
vice president of portfolio planning, many of
the cool features that are in the Samsung
Galaxy S 4 will find their way to the Samsung
Galaxy S III.
"Anything that we can do that's not
dependent on hardware like infrared, we'll
definitely bring to all the flagship devices,"
DiCarlo said.
And that includes several of the new features
for the camera. Feature like Smart Scroll ,
Smart Pause, S Translator, S Health and the S
Voice Drive, to name just a few, eventually
join the Galaxy S III and perhaps even the
Samsung Galaxy S II as well.
