it seems not many devs are cooking for n2 - Galaxy Note II General

i miss the great devs on sgs3 forum there so many great chefs, here its so quiet and kinda boring

The device isn't out everywhere yet. Out of contract price is a bit high so there may be some delay.

It's been only available for a week.....

Looking over at the Dev forum it looks pretty good so far. We can't even get the phone in the US yet. I'll be jumping from Skyrocket to Note 2 as soon as it's available here, and I know a lot of Devs will as well. Just give it a few weeks after it's available in the US and Canada and you'll have a ton of ROM choices.

People like you make baby Jesus cry....

Its like a week since release and we got good stuff.

The development even quicker than that for Note 1 previously. Couldn't be happier

Speaking from experience, not many devs want to develop for non-Nexus devices, let alone phablets.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

There's going to be a decent amount of devs making ROMs for this device. All high end phones are going to have good development. But you do have to realize that not everyone wants a huge phone, so there won't be as many devs as the sgs3. But there will be enough development definitely.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app

Its great as of now, and it will eventually get better and better.
I too have something great for galaxy note 2, But the problem is that I am not allowed to post it in the development section because I need 10 helpful posts.
So stay tuned......

Some people get addicted to just flashing for the sake of it so they look for new things to flash and can't find anything...
it doesn't matter to them that everyone is largely offering identical roms just under different names

I couldn't agree more. The whole point of custom ROM's is to add value to the product. I find it difficult at this point to see how a custom ROM could add value. The ROM is very fast and has features you cannot find elsewhere. There is minimal need for additional features or more speed. No need to return to Android basics or use CyanogenMod. Custom ROMs will add value when they can add newer versions of Android. If someone can port Android 4.1.2 without losing S Note, S Planner and multiview, then there would be value added.

to be honest, i miss these devs, their works for note2 :
Chainfire root+cwm recovery
siyah kernel
Rom devs we have really good, like mike, indie, wanam.

Do YOU think I deserve a recognised developer status?

Right, after making an ICS port to the wildfire and my darkforestROM, as well as three kernels and a few apps, xda haven't accepted my developer request.
Before I get the ranting it takes them long to do it, I put it in last week, and the backlog cant be that bad.
If they don't see me as a developer, then fine, but that doesn't mean everyone won't.
Probably because I have only been on this forum two weeks, but who should judge what time you have to wait to be a developer?

I agree with everyone. You SHOULD be seen as a developer. Loving the tweaks app and the CDMA Kernel. Plus just all the help and feedback you have provided. You have been here two weeks but I have yet to see a thread that doesn't have your feedback in it. You have been very helpful to many here myself included, and I thank you for that. The recognised developer system has nothing to do with if XDA considers you a compitant developer. It's more like a mark of achevement. Just keep going, keep working hard and you will get there. It takes time though. Look at the top devs like Leedroid, he has like 10 rom and kernel threads on the go at once.

As soon as ICS comes out officially on the wildfire, I will be getting a good system dump and removing bloat, as well as adding tweaks.
Will call it Darkforest ROM 4.0 ICS
Having few custom roms here is a good one, gives me plenty of space to make more

Why no AOSP roms yet?

We have the kernel source and aosp source for ICS (not JB)(obviously) so why hasn't anyone made an aosp Rom? It seems even other devices get AOSP roms a lot faster. Is there a problem with porting AOSP to the S3 phones in general (US VERSIONS) or does no dev really care for AOSP and is happy with TouchWiz? I don't know, and I'm just curious. Just to be clear, I'm not asking any devs to get on it or work on it or rush it, just pure curiosity. Thanks. Hoping some devs could reply to clear some things up.

Yeah I get that it's running touchwiz which is like you said basically a 0% true android experience but wouldn't you just be able to delete the touchwiz all together and flash a new Rom. I'm not exactly sure what the problems are that are stopping devs from just installing a Rom onto it after removing touchwiz. I can wait I was just asking out of curiosity lol.

You can't do that without achieving AOSP. ICS AOSP is helpful, but everyone wants JB.
The JB AOSP source code isn't out and when it is, the closed-source RIL is the biggest obstacle to making it work.

You can't have AOSP ROMS without the AndroidOpenSource for 4.1, which isn't out for 2 more weeks. And for 4.0, the devs still need time.
someone else mentioned that a lot of the devs might have held out for the 32gb models which were hard to come by opening week. the 16gb versions came out first. anyway, there are a lot of great devs on board, and not just historically samsung devs. htc devs like myn will be pumping out roms soon enough.

Yeah, I hope by the time the SGS4 rolls around in a year that 32GB will be the new low-end, with 64GB the step up. I really hope we don't stagnate here -- or worse: go backwards -- just because of this cloud crap.
My guess would be that most of the devs have the international version. They have had AOSP roms for weeks. Not to mention cm9, aokp, and about to get miui4
My guess would be that the phone is just getting released in the US and maybe the devs are waiting for 4.1 source so we can have a Jelly Bean AOSP rom instead of spending so much time to create an ICS AOSP. That doesn't make much sense to me, why waste time on ICS when JB is coming out in couple of weeks.
Can't most efforts on ICS apply to JB, or do things like project butter really change up the porting?
I imagine Google Play on stock/root or CM9 would be a lower-hanging fruit.

So your device could live. They sacrifice there device for us, thank you very much devs.:good:
As I can see a lot of N7000 devs are now on the S3 development.
But this is normal, all devs want to jump to the best device. Eventually the N7000 will have more roms, anyway there is cm9 stable, miui stable, aokp stable, a lot of customized TW roms, and there will be cm10 soon so there is development, but if you want to see useless tweaks and mods then maybe this will take a bit.
The note has officially 4 custom roms (from source, not tw based) that's not even close to dead development.

Its hard to kill a note nowadays, trust me I tried XD and all the kernels around here are fixed so there is no way a dev to kill the phone by accident.
ALSO there are like 3 guides to repair a phone with damaged /data partition so that's not a problem indeed.
Wait hacksung team get a working CM10 code and we will see a lot of action over here. They said they're working on CM10 for the S2 and since the note is a bigger S2 a lot of dev work from s2 will work on our phone.
Gnote dev dead......?????
I think its just started, considering recent ICS releases. As the developers have been working had once the brickbug came flying in to the note. So, give them some time & you will your hand full of goodies.

Sometimes I feel like devolpment is dying. But then I ask myself, "Well, what exactly do you want that you can't already have?" And, ya know, I usually can't answer that question. Perhaps I'm just bored.

Well....it's a matter of choice really!
I used to use cm9 because cm10 has a memory bug that requires you to reboot the phone once in a while...
I switched back to stock though...
For me it's better than cm because my music sounds better on stock, the camera is much better and also it has great deals in samsung apps!
For example you can get Modern Combat 3,Asphalt 7,Shadowgun and Virtua tennis all for free!
Try using foxhound ics ron which has reached a final stage and is perfect!
I use that combined with siyah kernel and i am a very veryyy happy man!
Try it and you'll remember me...
I wouldn't recommend using jellybean leaks because they are buggy....never the less the official update will come very soon,i think you should wait a liltle bit!

Idk, hard to say lol. Well wait, no I may not stay with stock. Anyone know if stock has cifs.ko support in its kernel? That to me is a vital part of any rom I get.. and with a device with HDMI output.. yea, network files for videos is good. (And not just DLNA)
Yea if I used my G1 for 4 years (Along with others in my sig for playing around with) then I can only imagine how well this device will serve me. Also I should be able to use Splashtop 2 or Splashtop HD shouldnt I since this has a high resolution?
Edit: Wait so this isnt the right forum for T-Mobiles S3? (Curse you google xda search for forum section)

Second, a developer shouldn't be asked to do something. That's the number 1 rule in xda
Sorry, but I have to report this

Ditto. And if you've followed Task in the past, you know that I while flattered, he'd still chew your ear off with something like: "Why are you even posting something useless like this on this forum, bro?!"
Don't worry there's a lot better/smoother/faster roms out there. Task is overrated.

Well come on let's be honest. Any Jelly Bean ROM is faster than any ICS ROM. And I've used ICS ROMs from other developers here that have been faster than Task's only one, which really doesn't consist of many, if any, tweaks.

I wouldn't say he's overrated, used his previous rom and they're quality. He's moved on to other devices and that's his perogative. Having said that I've moved from his ICS rom to Fourth bar Revolution rom and not looked back as it's had more development, very fast, stable and liquid smooth, more so than any JB efforts so far.

I would say he's overrated due to the fact he released a nearly all stock rom that everyone praises and pretends its the fastest and best rom out there. He's got a lot of "fan boys". His "fan boys" are worse than apple lol.

Quit trolling XDA. You're making it look bad. These are the types of posts that are ruining this community. Contribute something or GTFO.
@OP
Why are you taking my work, posting it, and not even asking me before hand. This is a huge rule you've broken here on XDA. Not cool at all dude. Reporting.
