[Q] Nexus 7 troubles after rooting. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone!
This is my very first " decent" post on xda even tho i do browse alot and read.
in ex when i rooted and changed roms to test out in my galaxy gio.. this place is truly a lifesaver and essence of everything what android is about.
now here is my deal.
recently ive ordered my usa imported nexus 7 from the swedish bazula.se
and was happy and everything. ive been reading alot about freezes and screenproblems, luckely i have not had those problems.. however,
yesterday ive decided to unlock and rood my n7 with the Nexus root toolkit v1.5.3.
installed the pda drivers and it all went well indeed without any problems.
exept now afterwards when everything went crazy.
after rooting, i couldnt open my f-secure mobile security app, no error msgs nothing,
also, as soon as started superuser app, it did quit after a second.
youtube videos are impossible to watch, it would stop the videos every 3 seconds. same with the games. freezes a second and meanwhile freazing, it brought up the game manu.. so impossible to play.
now, by that time it was really frustating and ive decided to install JB 4.1.2 that just got spitted out as a msg from the system that its avaiable.
root access was still there after the upgrade but in functionallity, no different, my problems did remained as above.
so i decided to do a factory reset. and problems still did remain.. so did the root. finally i did unroot the phone and reinstalled JRO03D and everything works again.. so does anyone of ya any idea wtf was going on? what could be the problem?
now should i try to update again to 4.1.2 without root?
thnks in advance

Nexus 7 2012 unrooted - turns on but android won't load

Hi all,
So yesterday I got the alert to update my nexus 7 (2012) unrooted tablet to 4.3.3 which I did. Unfortunately after downloading the update, when restarting to install, an error message came up with the android dude lying on his back and the word ERROR above him.
I restarted the tablet and everything worked fine apart from the fact that the tablet hadn't updated, which I could live with.
Earlier today I went to open the play store but it wouldn't load, the app just said no connection and there was a retry button. Wifi was working fine as I could play other games that need the internet, check twitter etc. So I decided to switch my tablet off and on again.
After turning on, the nexus animation logo comes up (with the 4 colours) and the tablet gets stuck on this page - it won't progress further and actually load android - I've no idea why this is happening. I haven't attempted to root the tablet or anything previously, only ever carried out OTA updates.
Any idea on what I can do please?
Thanks
I don't suppose anyone has any idea's on how I can get my nexus up and running again despite it getting stuck on the animation screen when I first turn it on?
The same happened to me. I had an error while installation of 4.4.3 . Since then, the device reboots, shows me the lock screen for 1-2 seconds and reboots, again and again. I tried the unbricking method with no success till now.
Thanks for the reply.
I managed to get my tablet working by using adb to unlock the bootloader and install the stock ROM again.
Then I locked the bootloader using adb and left it at that.
Only thing was the tablet factory reset itself in the process so I lost all my data etc. Id didn't have a backup which is my own fault I guess.

[Q] Nexus 4 update not working

Hi Everyone
First post on this forum and first time trying to fool around with android.
I just replaced a new lcd + touch+ frame to an N4 its build was JOP40C
1) I said to myself why not trying to update manually to lollipop, well the N4 stayed stuck while booting with the colored dots.
2) I said to myself lets go back to JOP40c but that does not exist on google anymore so tried for hours many until JDQ39 and finally could get into my phone, but the number 6 and 7 where missing on the touch (???).
3) I said to myself well lets reinstall again and got totally my touch working.
4) Once done I received automatically an OTA from google, said to myself well lets do google, well the same happened again the phone was kind in a bootloop with the colored X.
Any help would be appreciated on why I am not able to update this phone, do I miss something that I should know and not found over all what I have read over the internet.
I have spent at least 3 working days on this and now I have to go back, make a living and hope that a pro will help.
I assume you're flashing the factory image and then you get a bootloop? Go into the stock recovery after flashing and do a factory reset.

Tried that too lots of post over the internet about that but nothing keep getting blocked on the colored cross or bowls.
Tried also with Nexus Root Toolkit
Just received again the google update to 4.3 jelly beans on the N4 pressed restart and install then got the green robot and saying installing system update.
Then the phone got stuck in his bootloop and tird again the factory reset.
Still stays stuck in its bootloop.

Try checking the SkipSoft.net Android Tool Kit
I hope that helps
You ever check all sensors work?
Maybe the same problems with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/issue-sensors-update-t2973047#post60470486
HI
I have checked with another N4, installed a software and checked the differences.
Well you are wright on this one the luminosity and proximity sensors are not showing any sign of life.
It is already past midnight here in France, so I will check tomorrow if I can do something on these sensors.
Will keep you posted if I can fix the sensors and do an update after that.
Hi
How stupid I am, after screen change connector sensor was not pluged in and since I had placed the plastic cover with the screws, could not see it anymore.
At least after have lost so much time, next time I will post a little earlier and at least tonight I will go bed less stupid than yesterday
Google just send the 4.3 upgrade and everything went smooth just no touch anymore so cannot use the phone.
ok installed lollipop but still the same no touch, but now I can install an update but not use the phone.
Anyone on that touch problem

[Q] Safest way to load 5.0 on my rooted Note 4?

Hi guys,
Have just spent the last couple of hours trying to research this but still not quite sure what's the best (safest!!) way of upgrading to lollipop on my SM-910G. I am rooted and currently on 4.4.4 and when I try to do an OTA update, I get the msg "The operating system has been modified in an unauthorised way.... etc etc"
When I connect via Kies, I get a pop up msg telling me that lollipop is available however when I try to update it tells me that I have to be unrooted. I read an article where some guy messed up his rooted S4 while trying to update via Kies. Can't afford for that to happen on my phone, I've backed up all my apps and data via Titanium Backup but now need to know what the safest way is to upgrade and keep all my settings etc.
I've downloaded the right 5.0 ROM (N910GDTU1BOC5_N910GXSA1BOC5_XSA.zip) for my model - am I correct to say that if I flash via Odin, I will lose all my apps and settings (and root)?
If I want to update and keep all my settings, am I safe to unroot via SuperSU, then update via Kies? I've read about how unrooting via SuperSU isn't really a complete unroot?
At the end of the day unless I'm 100% certain I will probably stay on 4.4.4 since there has been some horror stories with battery drain and stuff on 5.0
Has anyone been in a similar situation?

hi
Just a few points ...First if you " dirty flash" official stock Rom with Odin, then you will lose root ( so to me there is no need to unroot first ) However you do not loose any 3 rd party apps or settings . Also i never use Kies as my personal experience is that it is a waist of time .Regarding Lollipop well i have flashed several newer " version"/changelog/dated of Lollipop 5.0.1 over the past months and all of them have been good to me...( ..overall.) No real battery drain ,no lag ( only recent button and one " Samsung bug in the setting " Accessibilty" .
All my "problems " on Lollipop, on and off, was caused by 3 rd party apps
eg.Past few days i had suddenly random reboots over and over .i reflashed Lollipol ,i factory reset ,but the random reboots continued .
i then started to install all my +_ 162 ..?? apps one by one and checked
Eventually found my culprit ..'Greenify " (the experimental paid ,bolt on package, which is meant mostly for Xposed module with few functions you can also use without Xposed eg "don't remove Notifications " and Greenify system apps l)
After using Greenify for months with no issues it suddenly started giving problems .
So i could have given Lollipop the blame for my woes but i did not .
Yes I do believe Lollipop has issues ,but overall i cannot complain .
yes ,Titanuim is the way to go .
Also i "unrooted " via SuperUser app once, no problem at all, but then why do this if you just flash over it and root is gone
Bottom line ,
you can be "stuck " on Android v4.4.4 hoping and waiting .......?
or faceup to Lollipop ?
its your choice ?
good luck
Hey willcor thanks for the reply! Good to hear your experiences with this. Interestingly I've had a similar problem of sluggishness, lag and random rebooting (multiple times a day) on my Note 4 running kitkat. This went on for about 2 or 3 days. Tried installing some recently installed apps thinking it might have caused it, and now it seems it's fixed itself, I think??
Even pulling the battery and restarting often took ages to boot. Took my 128GB SD card out and tried to boot thinking maybe it was the card but it still lagged and restarted by itself. Like I said it seems ok now and has been ok for the last few days, but now that you mention Greenify, I have that installed too along with a few exposed modules. This rebooting problem is what motivated me to think about upgrading to lollipop to see if it would fix it.
Going by what you said, if I am not going to lose apps, data and settings, then I might flash to lollipop, then re-root. Sounds like the way to go. Maybe...

hi,
Just a quick remark. When i was on Android v4.4.4, most of my issues eg. Private mode S HEALTH... (yes i know there was quick fixes /patches , that you could apply) Play store not installing apps, lags from time to time etc was caused by Xposed Framework. As far as i can remember Xposed was never optimise for Android v4.4.4? As "good" as Xposed was, it gave me "terrible headache /problems" on my Note 4....... even after uninstalling Xposed it broke some apps functionality! (This is a fact for me) . but yet, on all my other devices, no issues ! As stated in my previous post, that Lollipop experience, has been over all, very good for me.,(I have accepted the few bugs, that comes with every software update be it Android v4.4.4 or Android v 5.0.1.)
Lollipop also enabled me to use other apps /features eg Network Toggle app (change network only to LTE or LTE/3G or 3G only.. root required)
Bottom line
for me is.... yes, Lollipop has issues, but most of mine was caused by 3rd party apps not optimised 100% , work smoothly on Lollipop.
good luck
..............................
post note....
Titanium, i forgot, you might have some minor issues at first. Titanium could not find backup folder on my ext sd same as on Android v4.4.4) , so i used NextApp Sdfix (Play store, free app) Titanium, then was able to locate back ups. Again yesterday, i factory reset my device because of a Nova launcher, toggle notification issue and because i also wanted to for a period of time.
Titanium could not write and above NextApp Sdfix said i had no write premisson after running NextApp. i formatted my ext sd on laptop and NextApp did its work and Titanium working 100%
Just thought to make you aware if issue arrived.
Thanks... I forget all these root features have to be redone. I've also given extsd access on kitkat after rooting. Will have to do it all over again I guess!
Ok just a quick update. Flashed to 5.0.1 with Odin and rooted with CFautoroot. Everything seems to be ok apart from after rooting and rebooting, I got a "could not do normal boot" msg, saying that the phone was in download mode and not to disconnect the target. I pulled the batt and booted up normally ok. Checked in Titanium and found root access ok, activated write to SD and all seems normal.
Things seem a bit sluggish with lollipop, so I uninstalled xposed (which now won't work on this version), greenify and some other apps, and booted into recovery to wipe cache partition. When it was done wiping the cache and said to reboot, I got the same "could not do normal boot" msg. Once again I pulled the battery and it booted ok.
Not sure what has happened or if anything is affected - should I re-flash 5.0 with Odin and re-root all over again?

hi,
i am sure i read somewhere about.re: your remark, when you rooted and got a msg, with
"could not do a normal reboot... I am sure it could be ( @ Chainfire,) Cf autoroot website not sure.?
I would have search for a answer /reason!/ explanation Then i would afterwards, reflash Rom. (depends on you)
Just a quick question.... At what stage did you uninstall Xposed....? before /after flashing etc. i stated before that i found Xposed "broke /caused issues after i uninstalling it. (facts about two or three times it happened , in past )
Also i had no problem in using Greenify again (i have re installed it) its just the donation /paid / experimental package i am a bit hesitant with.
good luck

Hey guys, I have since reflashed and rerooted and now seem to have less problems, although the phone is still sluggish, randomly locking up and restarting , and sometimes restarting to the green android "could not do normal boot" screen.
Question now is, can I boot into stock recovery to do a factory reset? I've done some research but the views seem conflicting. Is this recommended, will I be stuck in a bootloop and will I still be rooted after the reset?
I never did a factory reset when flashing from 4.4 to 5.0.1 so I'm hoping this will fix the issues I've got now.

SM910F Note 4 5.1.1 Random Freezes and Restarts

Hello there xda.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM910F.
So what is happening to my phone is that whenever I am in any random app lets say reddit or even chrome for example. It will like freeze for a minute or two and then unfreeze.
In more extreme cases it will reboot.
So this happened randomly because I flashed a Stock unbloated 5.1.1 ROM from here back in december and everything was working smoothly and stuff. I had xposed installed and all my apps. Then in February it started with this random freeze/reboot. I had not installed anything else apart from what I had for the last 3 months.
So I restarted the phone, changed the battery and stuff to see whether that will fix it. However it didn't. So I formatted the phone (the soft type) just so I can install another ROM. So I tried another ROM, flashed the correct CP and BL and stuff and then just installed chrome and whatsapp. After an hour or two the same thing happened. So this time I factory reset he phone, like a complete wipe and I installed the unbloated ROM once again with few apps. Same thing happened...
So my last resort was to install Cyonagen Mod. After an hour or two same thing happened...
I don't know what is the problem. I read about some peoples phones emmc failing and thus the freezing, but I am not sure yet.
Please could you guys explain what I should do to fix this?
Thank in advance!
I have the same problem. Starting on mid january. I'm on stock 5.1.1 with root and twrp recovery
Tried backup and factory reset
I went back to stock after I factory reset the phone. And still had the same problems.
People say that its a hardware problem... So I guess I'll have to send it back to Samsung soon.
I think I tripped the knox. I just have to unroot and get it back once again to stock and send it back. I hope that they accept it.
i have the same problem. my model is SM-N910W8 and I bought it from 2nd hand, so no receipt and no prove of purchase.
can I still send it back to samsung to fix it?
same problem as you and now my phone died completely .
my phone was 4 months and he has not supported any longer he died naturally lol.
my operator gave me another free under warranty because the phone had a faulty motherboard and after several back galaxy note 4
This started happening to me a week or so ago and my phone just got stuck in a boot loop after it froze and rebooted. I'm on the latest stock firmware. Tried factory reset, reflashed stock firmware, nothing helps. It still reboots (sometimes it almost gets booted completely, other times it reboots after 2 seconds.
Just disable finger print. Yes that magic feature offered by Samsung is causing more hungry that happiness since S5

Many thanks. This was driving me mad for a few days, I had tried three different ROMS, completely wiping everything. I eventually went back to stock, which I'm still running and it was the same; it would run fine for a few hours and then start to lock up until eventually it would either reboot or stop responding and I'd have to pull the battery to restart it.
Just not selecting fingerprint security doesn't work, you have to force stop "Fingerprints" in Application Manager (All).
just do not setup the finger print lol. I was having those problemes too when I bought the note 4 until someone tell "do not setup the finger print" lol, not I'm a happy user.... I hope that android 6.0.1 solve the probleme

Still having the same issue around the same time everyone else started experiencing it.
I also was rooted and had xposed installed on 4.4.4 before the issue started happening.

Optimizing Apps on every boot.

I noticed a week or so ago that every time I reboot my Nexus 4, I have to sit through the optimizing apps every time. I have been going crazy searching for info on this and cant seem to find anything that helps. Phone is running 5.1.1, nothing custom, OTA update. I tried rolling back to 4.2 and everything seemed ok up until I got back to 5.1.1, then optimizing apps every boot again. I prefer Lollipop, but this constant half hour + delay before I can use the phone is unacceptable.
Any help would be appreciated, I really can't afford to buy another phone right now but this is driving me crazy trying to figure it out.

I'm not an expert but I have some experience with my Nexus 4..
any root? SuperSu maybe?
You receive the 'Android is starting optimising app xx of xx'?
if you have SuperSu, install the last version...
Another cause may be some file in your internal storage, make a backup, delete all and restart 2 times to see if there is a change...
Last resort, flash the rom stock with nexus root toolkit with all wipe
I did use NRT to flash 4.2 back on and wiped it, then let it work its way through the upgrades again. Once it got back to 5.0+ the optimizing problem started. Phone was not rooted, just bootloader unlocked.
I flashed a custom rom based on Oreo on it and the problem stopped, so I am assuming this is a Lollipop problem, but I would really rather be able to run stock Lollipop on my phone.
