RT Notifcation [Q] - Windows 8 General

Can the notifications that pop up in the top right corner ("You have a new application that can open xyz files" "You have new mail" etc) be used by normal, non RT programs? If not, could a RT app be created to run in the background and receive events from normal programs (or read events from a local http server), thus allowing any program to use those notifications?
While I'm on the subject, the Music app shows media controls in the volumebar, but windows media player doesn't. I was kind of expecting that desktop programs would be able to use this; is WMP just not updated for it yet? Or is it yet again an RT only thing?
Edit: Office 2013 can definitely create RT notifications; how does one utilize / call this?

The iHeartRadio app also uses the playback controls on the volume popup, so that might be a metro only thing.

Has no one figured out how to call the notification?

Is there any today plugins for windows media player

Does anyone know of any today plugins for windows media player so that track information and controlling play/pause, next track etc can be done from the today screen.
I often find i start WMP, then while doing other things suddenly want to stop a tune playing etc, and have to go back into media player.
I know there's other programs like mort player that allow this, but is there any plugins for WMP.
I've tried PHM's pocket plus - http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/Plus/#PHMtWMP, but that doesn't seem to work with WMP10.
interested in this also... let me know if you find anything. thanks
been on a business trip and it's only now that i saw this post. here you go then; nice little app / today plugin that allows you to use your media player and control it from the today screen. it also gives you an extra option of displaying both battery and memory bars/indicators. the website is:
http://www.mobiletechreview.com/software/PPC_MP3_players.htm
scroll down and you'll "today player". clicking on it will give you this site:
http://www.todayplayer.com/
just copy the cab file and execute it through your unit. from there; go to today settings and click on the box to allow the plug in to appear on your screen. it gives you a play button, stop, previous and next songs, etc. the note icon on the left gives you a bunch of options; best of all it gives you an option of "lights off" meaning the media player will continue to play even if the screen is off. the 3-bar icon on the right gives you the options of loading playlists which you make through your media player. it also allows you to load folders for songs and such. it also shows you the song currently being played.
the only drawback i see is that it's limited to playing mp3 and ogg only. i have a bunch of wma files somewhere and i had to convert them to mp3. but other than that; i like it.
cheers
This is a stand alone player and it's very nice (had it on my iPAQ) tried this on my i-mate JAM before and had some display issues were in the player would not refresh properly... I don't think it has been fixed as dev't on this application has been stopped.

Thanks, I did take a look at this, but was hoping for one that was actually integrated into WMP and not standalone.

Question for the sofware Gurus re Media Players

Hi Folks, you are going to have to bear with a non-programmer, my question is with regard to album art and scrolling on WM. there are loads of threads on xda trying to emmulate the 'Apple' style scrolling media selector.
As most players do the same thing, (ie play music and video) creaing the scroll would seem to be a seperate issue. is there a plugin that allows thumnails to be visible on WM and combine this with touch control to allow the existing player to select and play the track/album/video?
this would give the element of selecting via the pics without the need to create a completely new player?
cheers for looking and would hope one of you folks could run with this idea
Chris
I agree completely. I just don't want a new player - wmp is fine for me and works well with Voice Command. I like the way it does album art and I think it syncs well with the desktop.
What we need is just something to launch the album or track in media player. The Library option in wmp needs fingers that are much smaller than mine!
The iContact application was perfect - a good scroller to find what you want and then go to the normal app.
Ideally it should look a bit like audio manager or the iphone-style.
Any programmers want to take this on?
temporary solution...
well i'm not a developper... me too I agree that windows media player is an excellent software as it also plays videos and mp4's which are also part of my music album... I've done a few things to make it seem like an iphone and more practical:
1. downloaded PlaylistMgr 0.6.2.1 (freeware), use it to create a playlist or edit it on my ppc. And i use the playlist as a shortcut on my today screen (i have spb4), this way it launches the play list directly and not have to select my music everytime. This includes all my music and videos
2. iphone skin for wmp from http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/skins/media/wmp/wmpppc/?order=9&alltime=yes
3. I didnt know how to increase the playlist font, because i agree its too small so i increased the system font. Now most fonts (not all) are bigger, which has some advantages and disadvantages in other software (I used tweaks for that)
4. Use ftouchflo which allows me to scroll in the playlist
if any ideas let me know

Yeah, I did the same, create playlists for my music, and use righttoleft launch with ftouchflo to open the folder that holds them.
Never liked working with libraries.
Can someone elaborate how to create a playlist? I use WMedia and organize my music and I created a play list on the desktop and copied it onto my storage card under the folder 'My playlists' but it doesn't appear on the phone when I update it. Is there a way to create a playlist on the stock wing?
i have just purchased a HTC p6300 (xda Argon) all in all a so-so device but has got a bit of software in it that works well as a media selector - HTC Audio manager, allows you to select albums by file and works well with touch flo. only problem is that i dont know how to find the route files to copy and extract.. has anyone else seen or tried this? and if so does anyone have the cab? would really like this for my Wizard as well as this seems to be one of the best/easiest media selectors i have seen

[Q] BELL UI

I have a few questions and maybe some help with the new user interface called Bell UI, So far i really loved it
1. Is there any way to add new bubbles, since i don't pay for internet and most of the bubbles require internet.
2. Does anyone know how i can change the short cuts in the launch music player button to open windows media player, cause when i open it it say shortcut cannot be opened, this is so for other shortcuts too.
Any feedback would be much appreciated
Bell UI
To launch Windows Media Player, change the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT -> rtsp -> shell -> open -> command -> default to point to Windows Media Player executable.
I must Say that I love it and I could use the internet features with wifi in free hotspots.

CDMA Hero: Unavailable Native Apps?

Got a new CDMA Hero (on Sprint).
In the Manage Applications section, there are a bunch of applications listed there e.g. Streaming Media Player, Ringtone Trimmer etc that I don't seem to have access to/aren't available.
These apps have 0b file size...does this mean they aren't actually on the phone? If so, any idea why they would show up at all?
Will I just have to wait for rooting to be possible on CDMA phones and flash it?
Cheers for any help.
hahaha you made me get out of my chair and check out my Hero for this...
to answer your question, yes we do have this. but they are not standalone apps, as much as they are services within another app.The ringtone trimmer is accesed from the music app where you press 'menu' and it gives you the option to trim a ringtone before setting it as default (made me realize i dont need ringdroid, thanx) and im guessing that streaming media player only kicks in when needed
thanks for the info on the ringtone trimmer.
any idea where the streaming media player application would be invoked?

[Q] How to start Media Center on startup

Hi, I have been using Windows 7 Media Center application on my PC in connection with plasma TV, DVB-S2 SAT cards and DVB-T cards as main multimedia center at home with connection to XBOX and sharing all my digital media content (photos, movies, music, TV) around the whole family for years.
I was looking forward the new version of this application, and have been disappointed by the decision, that there will be no NEW application, at least Metro style face lifted. But at least, there is the old one included as a option for download. But what I do not understand, there is missing option in settings of the Media Center which enabled to run application right after the startup of the OS. Does anybody figured out how to start the application automatically? I have tried to put it to Startup folder, but this somehow does not work - the app was running in background and has not been visible.
