Hi, I have been using Windows 7 Media Center application on my PC in connection with plasma TV, DVB-S2 SAT cards and DVB-T cards as main multimedia center at home with connection to XBOX and sharing all my digital media content (photos, movies, music, TV) around the whole family for years.
I was looking forward the new version of this application, and have been disappointed by the decision, that there will be no NEW application, at least Metro style face lifted. But at least, there is the old one included as a option for download. But what I do not understand, there is missing option in settings of the Media Center which enabled to run application right after the startup of the OS. Does anybody figured out how to start the application automatically? I have tried to put it to Startup folder, but this somehow does not work - the app was running in background and has not been visible.

Does anyone know if there is an application for the PS3 remote play option as well as the Sonly Location Free player?
The PS3 Remote Play application allows you to view your content on the Playstation 3 anywhere in the world that has WIFI with an internet connection.
The Sony Location Free Player is a stand alone device that allows you to see you cable/satellite content anywhere in the world that has WIFI with an Internet connection. You basically connect the output from your cable/satellite provider to this device and use a program on your laptop or desktop to view the programming. Sony PSP's have a program built into their system which allows this to work. The original packaging for the location free player came with a disk that had 1 licensed copy for a desktop or laptop computer.
Was wondering if any of these applications might be available for the Xperia X2.
I think this belongs here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=648

I recently picked up a xbox 360 slim and was wondering if anyone knows how I could stream content from my phone to the xbox. I've tried allshare and neither my my laptop nor the xbox will show my phone. I can see the xbox listed on allshare but can't get the xbox to show my media. I've also tried plugging the phone in with a usb cable and the xbox wouldn't show my phone listed in media device options.
Any suggestions on another method that may work?

That should get you started. Xbox 360-specific stuff on Page 2. Basically, on XP use WMP to get AllShare working from your phone. If you're using Windows 7, here's the info as copied from member Gravis86, on Page 2:
"You don't even need to use WMP if you are on Windows 7. All you need to do is go to Control Panel > Home Group and check the libraries you want to share. I'm sharing my pictures, music, and videos folders. Then check "Stream my Pictures, Music,....."
and hit "Save Changes" on the bottom.
Congratulations! Now your stuff is shared with your phone, Xbox 360, PS3, other computers, and anything else on you network. No software needed."
Hi
i had a NAS which has dlna. I want to use my HTC hd mini to play file on My Nas through dlna. Does anybody know how to do this?
Thanks
+1
I would be interested too
Try Pocket Player, works just fine for me streaming MP3s from my Twonky based media server.
i did folowing this instruction and my hd mini play well:
Sure, it probably won't meet the DLNA certification, but with all the excitement of the WP7 based LG devices getting DLNA Play-To, we thought we'd figure out how to handle this on Windows Mobile.
What this will enable you to do...
Access your PC's media library and play back on your phone
Access your phone's media library and play it on your computer
Stream items from your phone onto your computer or DLNA-enabled device.
That's right. You'll be able to literally broadcast pictures, videos, or music off of your phone and straight onto the 52", just like the LG Optimus 7 can.
Getting Started
You will need to download three things to get started:
1) Samsung Media Server here.
2) PocketPlayer, available free for 30 days from here.
3) PocketPlayer UPnP plugin from here.
Step 1
Attach your device to ActiveSync, and extract the Samsung Media Server package. Copy the DLNA folder to the root of your Storage Card (eg \\Storage Card\\DLNA).
Step 2
Run PocketPlayerSetup.exe on your computer. Make sure that your device is connected before doing so. Follow the installation on your device, and install it to your Device memory.
Step 3
Extract the gen_upnp.zip file, and place the DLL in your install path for PocketPlayer. In our case, this was \\Program Files\\PocketPlayer\\
Step 4
Start WiFi, then run \\Storage Card\\DLNA\\SamsungMediaServer.exe. Nothing will appear on your device's screen, but the server will continue to run. If you go to your PC at this time, you should see "HD2" under Other Libraries in Windows Media Player. If not, make sure both devices are on the same network connection.
Step 5
In our case, we will be streaming to our Windows 7 desktop. Under Stream in Windows Media Player, enable "Remote control of my Player".
Step 6
On your device, run PocketPlayer from the start menu. Click Browse, and select Network. In the listing, you should see your destination device, as well as "HD2". Set the playback to your destination device, such as your Windows 7 PC.
Step 7
In the device listing on your phone, select HD2. This should display your phone's library. If not, make sure all your media content is located in \\Storage Card\\My Documents. Select an item, and it should be broadcasted onto your Windows 7 computer (or whatever device you have selected.) If it is, you're done! Keep your WiFi on and you can share pictures, video, and music with your DLNA destination device.
If you have any questions or clarifications, let us know in the comments. This method took roughly 10 minutes, using a HTC HD2 and a Windows 7 computer with Windows Media Player.
Can the notifications that pop up in the top right corner ("You have a new application that can open xyz files" "You have new mail" etc) be used by normal, non RT programs? If not, could a RT app be created to run in the background and receive events from normal programs (or read events from a local http server), thus allowing any program to use those notifications?
While I'm on the subject, the Music app shows media controls in the volumebar, but windows media player doesn't. I was kind of expecting that desktop programs would be able to use this; is WMP just not updated for it yet? Or is it yet again an RT only thing?
Edit: Office 2013 can definitely create RT notifications; how does one utilize / call this?
The iHeartRadio app also uses the playback controls on the volume popup, so that might be a metro only thing.
Has no one figured out how to call the notification?
This post explains how to create new style notifications in Windows 8 desktop apps:

I'm thinking of getting a Shuttle slim pc to hook up to my TV and use it as a media center. Unfortunately, WMC is gone from Windows 8, and even if you get it as an addon, it isn't that great....
Apps like Multimedia 8 are nice, but involve a lot of clicking, which can be tedious on the TV. So why not pin everything to the start screen?
Pinning your favourite TV shows, Albums, Artists, Movies, Internet Radio Stations to the start screen gives you access to all the entertainment you could want in a very quick and easy way. While getting meta data from last.fm, thetvdb, imdb etc, make the experience look great
I've created a quick mockup in photoshop to demonstrate how it might look.
Let me know what you think. unfortuately, despite my interest in IT, I went to medschool, so I can't program this myself (I did try though, but didnt get anywhere).
So if any dev likes the idea , I'd be happy to discuss my ideas
