Changing Fonts? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which method do you guys use to change the font your tablet? On my Samsung Note it was simple and on my HTC EVO I would just flash a zip from recovery. Also how reliable are the apps for changing fonts on the market? Some say they get boot loops using those....

[Q] Question about Font/Unroot

Hey guys, I need some advice with my Droid X. I used the Font Installer app from the market to change my fonts. Unfortunately, I've had to unroot my phone to send it back for warranty replacement using Petes Tool, but noticed my fonts are all still the same after unrooting. So, I went into stock recovery to clear/wipe data and it still will not change my fonts back to as they were when I first purchased the phone.
I'm thinking I have to re-root my phone, install Font Installer app back and then change them back to "stock" but I'm not sure if the app can do that.....or I could totally be a mile off, still learning how to root and toy with the X.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Ya... You will... Because changing the fonts is a system file... But the best way to get it ready to send back is an sbf... You can sbf to 602... that will clean everything up and have it set back to stock
We have nothing to feat but running out of beer
Thanks, Got it!

[Q] Hung boot after font change

I must humbly ask for everyone's help. I bought a Galaxy S3 (Sprint) today and rooted no problem. I downloaded font changer and Rom Toolkit. I changed a font and clicked "reboot" and the phone hung on the reboot screen--after the sprint logo and says "Samsung" with the blue light going up and down in intensity.
I tried a cache clear and data wipe, neither of those worked. I also tied reflashing the root ROM. That didn't work.
My most recent steps were to flash the stock recovery and stock ROM. It still hangs. I can get to recovery and am able to flash with ODIN. What should I do next?!
If nothing else, is there a way to reset the flash counter so I can maybe get Sprint to fix it? The only way I saw is to download an app, which won't work.
Any help is appreciated, I've tried all that I could think of.
1. Wrong section. .
2. Do your homework, changing fonts on ics causes boot loops. Gonna a have to flash to stock with Odin sorry :/
3. Triangle away.

1. if flashing two different roms, you have to wipe data. if you dont wipe, then youll get a bootloop.
2. bad download of a rom/kernel.
3. the theme/mod isnt compatible or a bad download.
4. rarely, stuff corrupts.
5. root applications with stuff thats not compatible with your rom/kernel.

Thank you for the reply...
I know because of compatibility i am getting the boot loop when i am using the root application....
My question is how to debug or find out where it went wrong... what made that application is not compatible with my ROM/Kernel....

watching a log cat via adb while the device is forced into one of these "bootloops". maybe even a dmseg. btw, are you sure that you have root? can you describe a situation, what you were doing with what root app, in detail how a "bootloop" happens? can you describe the bootloop and how you recover from one?

those options probably arent compatible due to android version, phone model, or rom(if works on another rom). there could be filesystem differences that make things incompatible. not all hacks/mods work on all devices. this all would cause bootloops, the way you describe it. have someone else with a nexus 4 confirm if they work or cause bootloops.
I already spoke with the developer regrading these boot loop problems... he has provided some solutions for it...
I have try those workarounds and lets see whether it fixes the problem or not....

[Q] Change Boot Animation

Ok, I'm still a noob when it comes to Android.
I have a rooted Sprint S4 on the OTA MJA update and TWRP Recovery 2.6.3.0.
I want to know how to get ROM Toolbox to perform the randomly selected boot animations I have downloaded from ROM Toolbox application itself.
What do I need to do get the random boot animations to work when the phone reboots because it is still showing the same Samsung/Sprint boot animations?
Cookbook instructions please.
TIA
I thought xda was supposed to be the place to go for help, even for noobs, guess I was wrong...not a single reply. :'(

XDA favors those who search. It's NOT a support/help site. Though most go out of their way to help those that help themselves.
Okay </preach>
So you can try starting here. This enabled me to use my cutom boot animation zips. One thing to make sure is that you have the right screen size on any images (1080 1920) you are planning on using for this device - wrong screen size can send you into a bootloop that requires a nandroid restore.
And here.
With the stock (Odexed) ROMs it is often more difficult to use custom boot animations they might not always work (or you'll have to delete the qmg files first)

Seems I am getting farther down the rabbit hole, now running TriForceROM 5.0 and that has proved to have an improved battery life.

You may need the ktoonsez kernel from the TF5.0 aroma. Then download the boot animation you want from your Rom Manager then install through your recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and fix permissions, reboot.
Haven't done this yet on TF5.0 but that's exactly how I did it on the last release. Went with the golden skull and bones. Not sure if you can get it to toss up a random one on each reboot though on the S4. Think RM was focused on a different set of phones altogether so maybe all the options in it won't play nice with the S4, just thinking out loud.
Or do what leaderbuilder said
I'm still trying to make my own, have to make time though. A lot of it.

I seem to really like the one where the android is urinating on the Apple.

After flashing Bootanimation4u, my boot animation is black - need help

So like an idiot, I didn't take a nandroid before flashing bootanimation4u, and now, whenever I turn my phone on, my boot animation is black. It boots properly, but I just don't have a boot animation. I still have the sounds that play. Which will fine, isn't ideal. I would rather have some indication that the phone is turning on as normal than just going straight into nothing.
I have tried putting a custom bootanimation.zip file in both /system/media and /data/local and nothing seems to allow me to use a custom animation.
So reading later on in the bootanimation4u thread, it says 4.4.2 or Kitkat in general, isn't able to work with Bootanimation4u. Which is odd because I am about 95% sure that I had it working at one time or another before. So I looked at the files that the flashable zip changes, and replaced those with stock files. Still nothing, I am still getting a straight black screen.
So then I saw this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...memade-bootanimations-collection-how-t1897969 and tried to use this, however, I have the same issue.
The custom boot animation I have been trying to use is the stock Google Nexus boot animation (the one with four circles).
This is on a Stock NAE ROM.
EDIT:
Would a dirty flash possibly fix this problem? If I do dirty flash, what issues might that cause me if the device has been modified with Hotspot / SD Card fix, and other things?
Did you try Rom Toolbox? I change these every couple days. Choose the file from your local folder, hit install, reboot. Done. If its still not working maybe it's the zip? Can you install other ani's? Maybe the Rom you use doesn't support custom boot ani's? Just thinking out loud.

I have tried several different animations, none work. All are supposedly built for this device. Using boot animation, not specifically ROM toolbox, I tried to flash some zip files I locally had with no success.
Bootanimation4u and the other link in that post, is supposed to allow for the ability to have/use custom bootanimations regardless of ROM.

Well try Rom Toolbox, you can get the free version. Open that app, grant it root if asked, swipe over to boot animations, choose local tab, find your file and select then choose install and reboot. I don't think you can preview first in free version. When it reboots it should be your Ani. No need to flash anything. If that doesn't work try flashing a different kernel and then retry. I don't know this bootanimation4u app though, never needed it. There's lots of threads here with lots of animations just try a different method, you'll get it.

I too am experiencing the same issue, i have tried everything i can find so far to fix this problem however all to no avail.
i have tried using rom manager and boot animation changer as well as flashing all of the different zips for bootanimation4u
any further info would be great as i really would like to get a custom animantion back
---------- Post added at 11:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:24 PM ----------
ok so i managed to get this fixed right after posting.
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...memade-bootanimations-collection-how-t1897969 and downloand "CWM_CustomBootanimation_44_Enable.zip" from the fourth post
Then use rom manager to change your boot animation
Job Done!
