[Q] does the atmel fixes really work? - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Maybe this is either a really stupid question or not even a question at all, but i have my ideos x5 u8800 with the atmel screen, and i have flashed both the dzo s aurora ics and after that i have passed to the cm7 .35 kernel, and both of them have the atmel fix.
Now, what i expirienced was that on the first couple of days, with both roms the screen functioned just fine, i played several games including modern combat 3 and all was smooth. but after 2 or 3 days i was playing because it is what i do most and the screen started to go absolutly crazy, i mean, in MC3 the weapon started to fire without me putting the finger on the buttom, when i wasn t playing the phone was selecting and opening apps without me choosing, and sometimes when i tried to unlock the screen i just couldn t do it.
i would like to know if possible, if the atmel fix really don t work to well, or if maybe is my phone that is all messed up, so that i can decide if i take it to the technical assistence or not.
Like i said, if it is a stupid or inapropriate question to make here, then i appolagize in advance, just please don t be rude on the answer.
Thank s in advance.

To me, it sounds like your touch screen digitizer might be breaking down. My phone experienced similar symptoms before my Symantec digitizer broke: It would pick up widgets even after I seized to touch the screen. (Warranty replaced it with an Atmel one. :crying
To determine if this is the case, go to system settings > developer options > turn on "show touches" and "pointer location". You should see these ghost touches after this(?). (This is on Aurora ICS. If you are using another ROM without such functionality, you can try something like this.)
Of course, I don't mean to scare you, so you might want to try going back to an official ROM as well.
I have been using Aurora ICS for ages now, with and without an Atmel digitizer, with the official kernel, and for the past two days, this one with no problems. Clearly I am not taking into account the time my digitizer broke and the problems it caused.

i am sorry mate, but i really dont understand much of this. so i did what you told me, and where i touch is exactly where the grey circle ( i assume that is the ghosts touches you said) appear. so is that good or bad?
sorry for my total ignorance.

My plan was to leave the pointer location running whilst you do your daily activities or play games in order to find out if there are additional touches - besides ones made by you - visible on the screen. If a touch registers on the screen without you making it, it could be your digitizer acting up. The grey circle under your finger is what should occur after you have switches "show touches" on; it's normal behavior.
Shortly after the symptoms you are having, the whole right side of my screen stopped responding to touch altogether. You may want to return to stock, and if the symptoms still appear repair it while you're still within warranty.

Did you change the device name to "skynet"?
lmao.. that sounds strange!
This isn't strange at all. I'm working with many capacitive screens and whenever you have a lot of interferences (static charges, ground), the screen treats them as inputs. The bigger the screen, the more sensitive it becomes.
One solution is to reduce the sensor threshold, but for the Leo, you may not be able to configure the sensor...

It's gonna be +1,000,000 at least for anyone who comes up with an app to do that!

Does the iPhone allow you to do this?
count me in and I can actually make the screen go "crazy"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584867
when can we expect a new rom from htc, maybe it will solve the issues
I think your device is broken, i have had the same problem and i swapt my device for another one and now i don't have the problem anymore.
So if it happens often you should go back to the shop you've bought it.
It's happened once to me (in Opera) in several days of quite intensive use (love this phone ).
Having the same problem with my device. For no apparent reason, it would have a mind of its own and constantly trigger parts near the centre of the screen, it got quite freaky when it kept hitting 2 for me when I was dialling a number.
Will be popping into store to get it changed tomorrow (if they have stock).
same here, screen sensitivity is way too high. Hope a fix comes out for this
Had my phone exchanged today, new one running smoothly!

Did google fix the sreen problem after the upgrade?

Hi, Just wonder if you still have the screen problem (register the wrong place when click) after the upgrade.
No. You should check out the humongous thread on google support forums. Googe have now abandned even giving updates on this serious problem.
http://www.google.com/support/forum...8e&hl=en&fid=04134c63c784258e00047fdfe09ae547
p.s. no fix in ere36b either (as im running that now and still experience this problem at random)
I don't understand this issue, I just don't see it on mine at all, no matter what ROM I install ... there has to be something more to this than a simple fault across all handsets ... either select faulty ones or some other factor. Mine just works 100% as expected at all times.
That said I have had no 3G issues either, no matter what radio version I use. Perhaps I am lucky ?
I think its because people are touching the edge of the screen while pressing with the other causing it to register incorrectly

That is not it, there are plenty of videos that show the touchsreen misfiring while just laying on the table. Also, the way I hold my phone I am never touching the glass surface other than with the one finger doing the touching.
With regards to some people not seeing it, this issue is very random. I can go for days without noticing it and then out of the blue it would come back, most annoying when it happens while typing something.
There is another somewhat related issue with the sensor on the n1. If you download an app called multi touch paint and try to draw two parallel lines simultaneously from say top left corner down to bottom right you will see that the lines are not straight at all and full of zigzags. Only way that this sensor recognizes multiple lines properly is if you draw perfectly vertical or horizontal lines.
There is also a discussion on developer groups where game developers are pointing out this very problem of multi toch totally being screwed up where it switches axis causing your touch to register in completely the wrong place. From the comments of the android engineer it makes it seem that the sensor hardware is just like that, cheap and low quality.

I know, I have seen all these videos and attempted to re-create many times to test I have never seen this issue once.
Don't get me wrong I can understand it being a mare of you are having it, but I just dont ever see it.
after trolling the Google thread, it seems to me there are several scenarios everyone is lumping into "screen issues" and it's going to be hard to pin it down to one source
Mine happens (touch registers on the wrong part of the screen) when I am using certain apps (Ringdroid, Browser mostly) - a couple of things clears it up ; press the sleep button, kill all tasks if you have an app for it, or change to landscape mode. For other people it's the soft keys and/or much worse. Since mine clears up with a specific action, I tend to think it is software related.
With mine it used randomly to happen but only in the Launcher (never again since 36B). I couldn't point anywhere but if I selected any app with the trackball and opend ist everything worked fine again, also the keyboard on the launcher worked well. For me it seems that it has something to do with the launcher.

[Q] Dead zone at the bottom of the touchscreen.

My U8800 has a small dead zone across the bottom of the touchscreen.
I can see the stuff there, no problem. But an area about 32 pixels high (about 3mm) at the bottom of the screen doesn't respond to touch. This makes apps with a bottom toolbar a pain to use (such as Opera, various games, even most launchers...), as I have to touch the very top of the buttons to activate them.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to fix it? Some parameters in a config file I've not yet seen that I can just tweak or something? I imagine it's just a fault with my device, but it can't hurt to ask...
Update - it responds to tracking (I can drag/scroll/move into, the area) just not tapping.

Same problem I think it's just the old atmel touchscreen so I'm gona take mine back tomorrow and hopefully the warehouse have new stock that have the synaptics touch screen installed even though I bought mine on boxing day can u download elixir 2 from the market go to information scroll down to input devices the more information then hit the arrow twice and tell me if yours say atmel-rmi-touchscreen or if it has synaptics instead please reply asap
if you are on stock rom -> warranty
but if you have custom rom, try reflashing.. i have some problems sometimes with cm7, but just flashing same rom again usually helps, and if didn't, MIUI never lets me down ^^. and if it still doesn't work, flash stock rom and... warranty

Lol yea I'm gona go with the warranty coz I'm already on latest miui but I just wanted to find out if it was a problem with synaptics aswell or it was just atmel
Ah, yes. Mine's an Atmel. While the 'dead' zone is only a couple of millimetres, it can be an inconvenience... I might consider returning mine to the Warehouse too.. Warranty permitting, of course.
Haha yea gona be hoping I get a synaptics

I have the same problem with my screen, a stroke of 4-5mm on the right of the screen doesn't respond. I have a synaptics screen and I'm going to send it back next week.
It could be hardware problems or not ? i have this problem and i'm finding the replacement, but seems it's hard to find a touchscreen with the frame in Vietnam

"Ghost Touches"

Hey All-
I searched for this with the assumption that with all the N7 screen issues there would be others experiencing this but I was not able to find much of any help.
----
My N7 is registering touches without me making contact with the screen. It is always in the same location. When the keyboard is up, it is where the letter 'D' is located. If I pass my finger directly overhead, or often times, even near to, the 'D' button, the tablet registers it as a touch. I can make the tablet register a touch with my finger as far as 1/4'' away from the screen surface. As you may imagine, this makes typing near impossible. As I pass over the letter 'D' to access other letters, it registers 'D' everytime.
I have tried other keyboards and the problem persists. It isn't necessarily over the same letter (due to differing keyboard layouts) but it is always in the same location on the screen.
I popped the back cover off and tightened/loosened screws to no avail. Turning the screen off and then back on does not help as it seems to do with some of the other screen issues that others are experiencing. The one thing I have found to strangely help is pushing on the screen in the affected location with extremely firm pressure; in essence squishing the s*** out of it. When I do this, the screen will behave better (it will still ghost touch in the area but my finger must be very close to the screen) for a period of time before reverting to misbehavior.
--
Has anyone else experienced something of this sort? I am currently running stock/rooted/unlocked; It seems to be a hardware issue so I don't think another ROM will help though I will try the CM10 nightlies when they boot properly. I'm ready to just bring it back for a new one but I know the Wal-Mart I bought it at is out of stock.
Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you.
Im having the same issue mine is in random places, usually top left corner but when im texting it starts typing random letters, I've been looking
for a solution or someone with the same issue you are the first and only that i have found. I am also having the dead spot issues, they tend to alternate.

Nexus 7 phantom taps
I'm having similar problems with my Nexus 7 bought in November. Worked fine for a while, now I'm getting phantom taps making typing a real pain and page scrolling can be frustrating when it suddenly scrolls to the top of the page! Anyone know if this is a warranty fix?
I had this happen one time. It freaked me out.

OP and others - have you look at the video here - post #1254 - look familiar to you at all - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1770919&page=126
A # of us had been freaked out, wondering if our secured WPA2 network has been breached and remotely controlled ...
If your device is brand new, return it & get it exchanged, or get it fixed under warranty - it's hardware related. The 16GB WiFi only model that I got from local Staples store had that problem that got worst - the replacement & upgraded 32GB unit has been flawless thus far - running stock but rooted 4.1.2 rom. I was within the 14 days/holiday time frame for exchange/return w/o stocking fees, luckily & did not have to wait for it to be repaired under warranty.
Upgrading to 4.2 firmware and/or custom Rom & kernel do not help, YMMV - of course ...
BTW, local Staples tech support counter manager said up to 20% of the N7 are getting returned/exchanged for various issues. Wow !!
After 4.2.2 my nexus7 makes phanton clicks too
Similar with this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tkh3W_ITwEw
I turn off screen and turn on and stop... The times in times i get it
Have solution?
I had to take my screen protector off after the update it was pressing places on the screen didn't happen until 4.2.2 update

Screen responds to 'touches' you didn't actually make - like, there is a ghost touching your screen
oh, well i dont know how to fix that sorry. But maybe you touched the edge of the screen accidentally?
i have the same problem for about a week now! did you find any fixes?
me too
Me to. I have tried every possible solution. Eventually whole screen has been replaced on warranty.
No guys i dont find any solution. And now? How we can resolve it?

replacing the display is the only solution
i have the same problem, ghost touches in the upper side, near clock.. specially when phone is hot or i press the top of the phone
Im so angry ??? bc we have this phone not usable!!
It's a hardware failure. Faulty display. If you suffer from "ghost touches" you should back up the data you want to keep, and return your Device to where you have bought it from as it might still fall under warranty (depends op what the cause is, and where you live). This can also get worse over time making the screen partially unusable (which was in my case). contact the seller, or contact customer service from Xiaomi.
I suffered ghost touches at the beginning of December (owned the Device for at least a month). Tried every software options i found around internet that could resolve it, but it was to no avail. I proceeded to unlocking the bootloader, install TWRP, flash a custom rom... For a couple of days i was fine. After those few days the top part of the screen (the part with the status bar) rendered unusable, on custom rom and stock miui. Tested it and it seemed that the area increased and also decreased from now and then, which is strange. After contacting my seller they agreed on sending it back including screenshot and the tests i ran. 1 day after they received my device they contacted me to say that it cannot be fixed (or at least they didn't seem to bother as the phone's pricerange is low) and i am receiving a complete new one (this was in the weekend btw). After that weekend on monday i received the new one and it's running better then ever, even the fingerprint is much faster.
Now just as a warning, I don't say you still have warranty. i live in the Netherlands where unlocking, rooting and all that does not void warranty, and returning a product is very easy to do. But in other parts of the world the companies can screw you over so you'll have to check that.
For those who are asking what is it, juste have a look at mine in dev mode to show the touch : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZApYI9otJI
This happens to me only when I'm charging the phone, still annoying, , I think it's something to do with the voltage and could be fixed with a software update.
